I left all the associated screws on the drawer only, which will make making the drawers really easy. It took me about an hour and a half to get all the cabinets and hardware. and all situated, I have them all stacked behind me right now on something soft to keep them from getting dented on my garage floor. I'm in my garage right now, which is probably not the best, the reason why it might not be the best. It's because there is usually quite a bit of dust in garages. I used my leaf blower to blow the dust off the door before bringing everything here, but now I'm going to use my mouse sander.

I'm going to sand all the edges, cracks and sides. of each door using 150 grit sandpaper or actually hold, please, just kidding, not kidding, 150, I'm using 220, which is actually very good, you know, I would say go finer, definitely, better , okay, here we go, and make sure you wear a mask while you do this, you don't want to breathe in all these dust particles, okay, real quick, it's 5:35 right now. I think we started this probably around 2:30. In about three hours we removed all the doors, all the door hardware. they are all sanded, they are in the garage for the night, I have taped all the edges, I have done some duct tape on the inside, blah blah blah, I have not sanded or cleaned all of these, but I I'm running out of steam tonight I feel like we've done a lot.

I really hate how chaotic it looks here right now, but whatever we made it, we have our goodie bags and they'll just relax here where they can't get lost until the project is over, but this is what we're going to leave for this one. evening. Hello, good morning, okay, we'll be back here on the second day. While I was doing some smart prep last night, I realized that this is going to take a lot longer than I thought. People warned me about that. I don't think they're going to spray any of the doors today. We will see.
It's probably the coldest day we've had so far this winter. It's only a high of 20 degrees today, which is. uh it's pretty strange here in my opinion but all my doors are in the garage and I don't think I'd want to spray when it's so cold in the garage, we'll see if I can find a solution for that anyway. What I'm going to do today is prepare all these parts. I don't know what to call them. I'm going to prepare them and put a coat of paint on them. I was looking at the Benjamin Moore website and it says you're supposed to have four to six hours for the first coat to dry, but 16 hours between coats, which is a lot, but they recommend Benjamin Moore Advance for cabinets because once which cures completely, is solid, is a solid and durable enamel finish.
I think what matters most in the long run is durability, so I think you just have to make this project probably take me all week, to be honest, to do multiple layers of all the things that need layers anyway, like this that I'm I'm going to prepare them and show you exactly how I do it and then I'll show you how I paint them. The first step is to clean them. I was talking to my painter friend, Mr. Dirk, and him. He told me that what he likes to use most to clean this kind of thing or anything he's about to paint is the hottest water you can stand and ammonia, so that's what I have in this bucket right here, very hot water. , very, very hot and some ammonia and me.
I'm going to clean the surface and, yes, rake, it smells like a litter box. Ammonia is super cheap and effective, which is why he recommended it to me. I used my vacuum cleaner to remove most of the dust. Now I'm going to use an anti-static cloth, it's like cheesecloth but it's quite sticky and once you're done handling it your fingers will be a little sticky, but it's meant to pick up dust and particles and really anything that doesn't really matter. you want it to end. in the finish of your painting, I'm going to glue everything and then I'm going to paint the first layer and now I'm going to brush the cracks and then I'm going to go over the brush marks that are called point and roller, so I'm going to do that. on the parts that are difficult for the roller and then I'll go over the rest of the flat surfaces.
It's been about five days since I started this project. Anyway, I realized I did a poor job of showing them how to actually paint. It doesn't matter how to paint, so I'm going to show you how I roll it and this is after a little bit of trial and error because, like I said, it's five days later, I'm going to show you how to roll it and I'm going to show you what I mean by lean and roll and I know what you're probably thinking, Taylor, do you wear the same clothes every day? Yes, I only have a hoodie and a pair of pants.
Anyway, okay, yeah, let me show you. how to paint because you can mess it up disclaimer im not a professional but this is what i found after four days of painting this is what i found that worked for me so when i say tilt and roll in the video this is what i want say This isn't necessarily a piece that you would tilt and roll on, but tilt and roll just means that you load your brush, paint it on the surface to deposit the color, and then take a roller and make sure it has paint on it. because in my opinion, if you have paint, it prevents it from lifting the paint that you've already put on and then you spread the brush marks and like I said before in this video or maybe I'm about to do it. mention it as a future scene this is a little confusing sorry once I finish painting this surface I'm not going to touch it again until it's dry that way I won't disturb the drying finish of the paint so when you apply it, do it slowly , make sure the roller is saturated and then once you're done applying that section and you think it looks good, don't go back to it, just leave it.
The next item I want to address is how to paint this type of crown molding part, oh my goodness, ignore my nails, I'm so sorry, you don't necessarily want to start from the bottom, that's okay, in my opinion you should always start from the top, but here we go, this is how I do it, I actually load up my brush, put it on the molding part and the crack and then just drag the paint down slowly, okay, and this is a soft bristle brush. I forgot to mention that I definitely use a soft brush. bristle brush for this project, if you like the bristles to flex a lot easier and get into the crevices, like I said, once you've gone over it enough and you think it looks good, let it go and now up here is an edge wet and I have to connect to that wet edge to get up here like I said.
I think it's easier to start from the bottom and the reason I think is because of the drip. You're going to want to keep an eye on this for a couple of minutes. to see if you see any drips and then fix them before they dry up, I was meaning to turn on my little light, damn it's fine anyway, I was meaning to turn on my little lights, you can look at that part with concern, but of course anyway, this is a wet edge, okay and this. It's a wet edge, so before I get too far away from this, I should roll it up easily.
I'm not worrying too much about getting in here or anything like that, except if there's a big mass I need to fix. I'm not worrying too much about it because you can't see those parts anyway, well I should actually take them out. No, I'm not going to take them out because I hate rearranging drawers and I'm sure they are all specific. They all have specific spots that they need to go into, so no, no, I'm not going to do that on day three today, not much will happen today, all I'm going to do is very lightly sand the first coat and then I'm going to cover it. again.
I'll show you a clip of what the texture looks like this morning. It seems to have smoothed out even more overnight, so it took me about an hour and a half to prep my cabinets which I have lightly. sanded I've vacuumed every nook and cranny I've gone over every nook and cranny with an anti-static cloth to pick up the rest of the dust particles and now I'm going to dump and roll last night I had a very light orange peel texture on At the end of the day, it was very, very slight, appeared more on camera reading a little more about Benjamin Moore Advance.
It's also clear to me now that it dries faster where I live, giving you less time to level one of the shapes. What I can help remedy is to roll it a little thicker and I'm talking like it's a little thicker, that way it has a little more circumference, I don't know, of the cape and it doesn't dry as quickly, which will . give the paint a little more time to level out before it dries so I'm going to try that right now okay one more video before I stop recording day three so I'm done painting my cabinets for today.
I wanted to show you where I created more work for myself and I hope you can avoid doing this. I created a pretty bad texture right here and I created it by rolling and then rolling or painting some other part of this cabinet and then I rolled that piece again, so basically what happened is I let this part dry a little bit, moved around and painted something else and then I went over it again, tried to smooth it out and stopped the drying process. I'll have to sand it tomorrow to be able to remove it. there but FYI keep a wet edge if you create a blemish at first don't try to smooth it again with the roller just let it dry wait until the next day good morning it's the morning of the fourth day here is the second coat just look IMO , in the second layer, it is quite smooth.
I'm pretty happy with what I did last night, but I went around and used some paintable silicone to fill in some cracks. These cracks were not as obvious when the cabinets were put in. They were white, but since I added some paint, it became obvious to me that the cabinets aren't perfect, which is fine, so I went over them and added silicone. It takes 30 minutes to dry, but I did it last night. It can be painted, so I will do that. I painted over it today, but I'm not going to show you anything I'm doing today, it's the same as yesterday, this is the third and final layer, so I'm going to be very careful to make it nice too if you're like Taylor, Why haven't you made the doors yet?
Well, they're here, they're all sanded, they're not clean or anything. They're in my garage, um, I'm going to paint them probably next weekend, it's Monday, so I didn't really plan this very well, but I'm going to paint them next weekend because it's currently too cold in the garage to spray. I have read and been told that this is what will give me the best finish. weekend it's supposed to be like 60 degrees outside I'm going to wait to spray them this weekend. What's happening? It's been five or six days since I've done any work on the cabinets.
I know I just said in a previous clip that I was waiting until the weekend to spray paint in my garage because it's going to be a little hotter the face of my garage is wet and the sun was going to be on it and blah, blah blah blah, the weekend came and went, I didn't spray anything because it's not really that hot outside, so it wasn't actually that hot in my garage. I'm tired of my kitchen looking like shit. What I did was I went to Lowe's yesterday and I picked up a bunch of plastic, some shitty duct tape just to hold it up. the plastic together I'm in my loft right now, you can probably see behind me, there's stuff around, it's because I took everything out of my loft and I'm going to put plastic, put plastic on the walls, plastic the window I'm going to break a window when start painting and I'm going to spray my cabinet doors here in a climate controlled environment, sothat way we can do it, the whole process of spraying the doors will probably take I guess about four days, two days per side in the meantime, I rolled some of my drawer fronts just to see how they would look rolled.
Honestly, they look pretty good, so I'll say it right now. Just roll up your cabinet drawer fronts, you don't need to spray them, I think they look great. I would do it with paint that takes longer to dry so it has more time to level out, but other than that I think they look amazing, hey, okay, real quick, I was editing on workday six, oh, sorry. I was editing work day 6 just now while my son was napping and I realized that my entire intro clip for work day 6 didn't even have audio and it didn't even record everything just for work day 6 anyway. work 6 in the morning which was earlier today, you will see me prepare my spare paint, mix my paint, show you where I am painting and then paint a little, okay that's it, I just wanted it all to make sense, okay, bye, I'm using it.
The Home Right Finish Max Super Paint Sprayer. This is a pretty cheap sprayer from Amazon, but it has tons of good reviews so I'm going to give it a try. My sprayer is now prepared according to the instructions. It already comes with what I wanted to use. I wanted to use the green tip and this black tip guard to get the spray pattern I want and the finish. If you get a paint sprayer, just look at the instructions, okay, they'll tell you exactly what to do and I'm going to fill it up, you can see the measurements are 40 ounces right here, it says 24 here, so I'm going to go to about 16 and 24, so I'm going to go about halfway and it's 20 ounces. oh yeah that seems like a good spray consistency to me oh god what a mess ok this is the paint setup we have in our loft.
I have all the doors here, they are clean, I vacuumed them, I'm going to turn each one of them first. I sprayed and then here I put hot sauce on the bottom to keep my cats from getting in here too much last night and it worked. I have my saw horses that I covered with plastic, but I didn't actually do that because I don't really care. Under the first store, I have a decorative wooden turntable that I have protected with a plastic trash bag just so I can spin things. easily if I want and then here, oh dear, I still have to do this.
I have some cardboard that I'm going to put the cabinets on this is a good tip I read on reddit so use an egg carton or an egg jar like this cut each of these to create little feet like four each per door to create small feet to place the cabinet on. Open doors so they can dry without their edges touching the floor. By the way, I'm using a horizontal spray tip because I think it would be easier. I don't know, it seems like it would be a more natural move. Well, here we are. Okay, I need to adjust the finish of the sprayer because this came out a little smudged in places, which is fine, I just need to adjust the nozzle a little.
I should have tried this first, but I have very limited time while it's wet, just grab it. your roller and spread the texture, no big deal, this is just the first coat, you have a chance to sand, anyway it looks pretty good, as you can see it has a little bit of texture, but this paint is a very leveler and since I added water it should actually dry slower which will give the paint even more time to level out so we'll leave it like I said earlier in the video don't play with it too much. You'll create a bigger mess for yourself, my particular paint sprayer has a little twisted knob here and according to the instructions for a finer spray you turn it counterclockwise, so I'll do that, Let me see how far it goes, it goes pretty far.
So maybe I did it too backwards, so it seems like a good medium, we'll try it. Hi, okay, a few things. I thought I'd do a little voice here real quick because I learned a few things while spraying. I painted for the first time this morning, so I've always heard that the thinner the coats, the better. I mean, that would make sense, well, after a little trial and error, at least where I live in such a dry climate, by the way, Colorado, um, I need. to spray a little thicker and I need to hold the sprayer closer to the medium I'm spraying mid spring I noticed I was getting a sort of sandy powder finish on my doors and after googling it and reading some painting forms.
I realize now that I was spraying so thinly and so far from the medium that the paint was atomizing, I guess in the air before I hit the door, so that it would be partially dry when I got to the door and then it won't be able to level out at all later on, so I noticed that when I went back to some of the first doors, I sprayed towards the end and I sprayed them with my hand and I realized that they were kind of dust, which is funny because looking at the doors They themselves can't be said to have a texture like they look smooth, that's why I didn't realize there was a problem until later when I went to knock on the doors I had sprayed before, so tomorrow I'm going to spray some more thick and hold the sprayer closer to the door to learn from my mistakes, it's okay, the powder is very fine and just comes off by hand.
I realize it's paint I'm removing, but it just comes off with the brush. with my hands, so tomorrow before I apply the second coat, I'm going to use a tack cloth on everything like I was going to do anyway and then I'm going to spray it with a thicker coat, okay, thanks, bye, good morning, day seven, Well, probably over the next few days. I'm not going to show you what I'm doing, I'm going to show you some paint, some of it drying, watching the paint dry, I know, that's crazy, I'm just going to show you day to day results, I'm not going to go. to show you what I'm doing because basically for the next few days until all the coats are on and basically it's done, I'm just going to sand and paint, that's it, do I regret doing this?
I don't regret doing it, but I wish it would end anyway. I'm going to go ahead and sand this morning and then probably paint later today. I have to obey his nap schedule and he sleeps like shit when I'm in the loft spraying. ten feet away from his room, okay, bye, oh, actually I'll record anything if something strange happens, but other than that, I think I like to film smoothly from now on, so
