You will also need a roll of this Boesel batting. This is the batting here, it comes in a roll like this and since this is the best thing out there if you want to cut your own strips a batting cut your own strips of batting this comes all together in a long roll if you're going to cut your own strips you'll need some batting sewing tape to attach Put them together because you want it to be one long continuous piece and that's what you need to make the small one.

If you are going to make the colossal round rug that measures approximately 54 inches in diameter, you will need two rolls and two. 25 yards, you'll need 50 yards of this to make the colossal for the colossal. We've used this facet kay two and a half inch strip roll for four free spirit and it's called peacock and you can tell me that by the way it looks I mean it's so bright and happy so obviously I don't have time in this little

tutorial

to do everything, so I'll show you all the tips you need. I know how to do this so we can do it and accomplish everything we need to accomplish, so I'm going to clear a little bit, make some space for us here, and actually, I'm going to move these here and leave them here.

I'm going to say hold on for this, so when you move on, the instructions are great on these patterns because of the way a lot of us are visual and we want to see how to do it, so I'll show you. I show you the tips so you can do it, so the first thing you're going to do is remove the strips from the roll and, if you want large areas of color like these, large areas where you have several rolls of color. So the way they come off the roll is how you're going to sew them together so you're going to sew red red red.

Do you see what I'm saying? So you get big wide bands of colors, so keep the colors together when you sew the strips together, what you're going to do is one strip is going to come in from the side, one strip is going to come in from the bottom like this and you're going to sew from left to right. like so so we're going to go to the sewing machine and sew this this is how we sew our binding and it's like this so we're just going to put these on we have one that comes from the side one comes from the top and we're just going to sew from left to right with straight stitches from corner to corner, here we go.
What we're going to do with this is we can't, we're going to clip this to the right. here and I you can cut yourself right before you

star

t, but I left mine on because I'm going to do this cut anyway, but you're going to sew them all together like this and when you open them up it's going to give you a lot. less volume in that seam so you can press this seam open you know you can leave it flat either way will work it's just you know you just want less volume because when you fold this in half that thing isn't all in one place it's spreads out over a wider area, so what we're going to do once you've sewn all the strips together, you're going to lay them out with the batting and when you're ready to go ahead and sew the strip together, literally to sew all the strips together, so 40 strips, you know the width, and put that batting there and you're just going to sew it, sew everything together, so what I'm going to do is turn this over now and I'm going to start going the other direction and now this is going to stay in my lap.
Now they have a suggestion because all your strips will be something. Here you're going to have four TVs sewn end to end and this is just going to sit on your lap and you're just going to roll it up, it should go along with one of the things they suggest is folding the strips into a fan shape so they sit on your lap. I think that's a great idea and We're just going to keep going like this and what I do is I go down here and turn them a little bit to either side and fold them over and run my finger over here and make sure they're all the way in. and keep sewing down the middle now you'll see when I move it to show you, I tried to slide it out from under the presser foot and I suggest that if you have a needle down option that you use it so that when you stop the needle and it stays down so that if you You move and pull this isn't going anywhere, so that would be my suggestion.
Once we're ready to go, we've got all the rolls sewn together and you're ready to start putting it together, we're going to do something like this now, this is for this rug, right here, the

jelly

roll rug, you're going to start giving turns and put it like this and go around so that you are I'm going to set your machine to zigzag. I like mine to be as wide as possible. Now I've sewn in some white here and so you can see, I'm actually going to mix this with gray that you want to place if you want to place. a thread here that will be mixed in so it won't do it unless they want it to appear.
I didn't want mine to show up too much, but to show you guys, I wanted you to see this and then I'm going to start sewing. with some gray thread and I'm going to place them together so you want your zigzag to be as white as possible so you know there's less room for error and then and pretty close together so we're going to come down here and do this and I'm going to put mine zig zag and I'm going to make it as wide as possible and then I'm going to keep it pretty close together, so I'm just going to hold these things up and hold this together. here, make sure you can see this really well, so we're going to keep these two together and as long as you add something to the outside edge of your rug, it can get as big as you want, so let me show you this. right here so let's go and let's Zig here now one of the tricks is don't stretch the strip, don't pull it, don't stretch it when you go around the corner just to give it even give it a little extra space, ya you know, don't throw it, tie it around that corner, just let it go because you don't want it to be flat, so as I go around this corner, I'm NOT stretching. not at all, I just leave it like I even push it in to make sure it has enough room to lie down and then you're going to approach the other side just like that and once you feel comfortable this you can just increase your speed very high and Let it go, then you will keep going around and around and this rug will be bigger and bigger and ready before you know it, if you ever find it. that you have a lot of rug inside the neck of your machine, turn that thing over because you're sewing it on the wrong side because it should just be the only row here that allows you to keep adding to that rug and making it get bigger and bigger and bigger big and then the colossal rug again becomes quite large and look how beautiful this cave fabric is here.
I mean, it's just a gorgeous, gorgeous color, gorgeous looking, great big rug, you can see how big it is and it's just It's just so much fun to put together and so much fun to make and it's a lot easier than you thought so I hope May these tips help you and I hope you can go ahead and make your own jelly mat.
