Mar 30, 2024
Hi guys, we're recording this on Tuesday 19th July and right now the UK is all about heatwaves and travel chaos so we've taken this as a sign to stay home and actually that gives us the opportunity to show it. around our new home

town

so while we take a walk we'll explain a little bit why we've changed Edinburgh for Montrose and that's not as difficult a decision as you might think, we're just heading to the beach right now and It's crazy when you think that today in England they are predicting up to 43 degrees, but here in Montrose we have this nice coastal air that is still supposed to warm up quite a bit to about 25, but we are very close to the beach, literally.

A five minute walk from home, it's a perfect location. To our left you can see the 1562 golf course. You know, it is the fifth oldest golf course in the world. It looks very brown right now, that shows what the weather has been like recently. If you wait. To me, look, she just walks away. I want to go to the beach. Right here we are arriving at Montrose Beach, which has to be our favorite place in

town

. Yes, yes, I believe it. Now it's school holidays right now and believe it or not. It's a busy day at Montrose Beach.

More Interesting Facts About,

moving to a small town in scotland we knew nothing about welcome to montrose angus...

We usually have the whole place to ourselves when compared to a nice day out in Edinburgh like on Portobello beach. Last night we were looking at pictures on the internet and it was absolutely onslaught. Hi, this has to be one of the main reasons we moved out of the city space and when we say space we mean unlimited space for me, especially as I was starting to feel very claustrophobic in Edinburgh, yeah same thing and It's like you feel like a hamster where you just are. This little one bedroom apartment and especially during lockdown was an absolute nightmare so

moving

here is more of a lifestyle choice than anything else to give you a little bit of the geography of this place.

This stretch of beach alone runs three miles toward Cincinnati. and then that coast will take you towards aberdeen passing through really beautiful little fishing villages like gordon and john's haven which are only a 10 minute drive from here and if we turn the other way passing scardiness lighthouse that will take you towards our growing up in dundee oh and around the corner there is a little place called border point. Now I think it deserves a video of its own to be honest, but I'll leave a little segment on that now. Modern Point is a beautiful location on the Angus coast and is a hidden gem, as well as being the home of these lime kilns.

It's recently become popular for these photogenic old boats, this one with the

montrose

is still almost legible on the transom, but it's also home to the elephant rock and I think I'll see where it got that name from. There are also many myths and legends here, but my favorite is carved into stone so everyone can see the tombstone of time traveler George James Ramsey, born in November 1859 and died in December 1840. Of course, we love being down below. here on the beach, but we have done something that goes against all my instincts, we have bought a surfboard, now we may not be able to call ourselves proper surfers yet, but that won't stop us from trying, oh it's hot now.
I think we'll be at the pub soon, but anyway the tide is low at the moment and that gives us the opportunity to walk towards Montrose Harbour. Now it's a proper sort of working industrial port, there's not much access to it, but at the moment. the tide is low we can walk around the corner and get pretty close, but the first thing we'll do is if we walk over here and try to have a drink. Wow, it's only about 22 degrees and I'm totally dying in here, how hot is it? In your summer, don't you want an ice cream?
No, not yet, oh yes, thank you. Here we have a sculpture by William Lamb. Now he was a well-known artist and a Montrose native. In fact, I think there are so many sculptures in Montrose. There are over 20 of them, okay there are a lot, in fact there is a trail around Montrose to go see them all, but this one is called the minesweeper. Now you might ask what was the significance of the minesweepers here in Montrose during the war they played. an absolutely vital role in sweeping up any mines that have been washed away by the tide and maintaining a safe shipping corridor from Edinburgh to Shetland for Allied ships on the south side of the harbor entrance is the beautiful fishing village of Ferryden and from there there are footpaths which will take you past the lighthouse and towards Lunan Bay which is another fantastic beach in this area although it is much more popular than Montrose so if you are looking for a quiet beach go to Montrose, if we had had a little more Lucky with our weather, we might have seen one of the big ships leaving the port.
It's a very tight channel, so you get very close and it's personal. Well, maybe next time we'll go closer to the city. now through the industrial area but it's just unbearable today I don't even know how to describe it there's no air to breathe yeah it's not even that hot is it? there's just no air it seems that in the past Montrose was much richer and much more important and you can see by many large empty buildings that obviously had some purpose in the past but right now I've just left and that's one of them. We're traversing towards the city center now and we've just spotted a place I've never seen before, it looks a lot like the old train station when Montrose would have been on Caledonian Lane or something.
I'm not sure what it is now, but this is definitely the old train station, right? in fact, here's the beach sign ah yes, here we are, it's a very nice building, yes, around the corner, here we have a statue of Montrose's most famous resident, Bamsay, I thought you were the most famous resident famous and another, William Lamb, the sailor, another. piece of modern art the very realistic bamsey shopping cart which translates to teddy bear was a mascot aboard a norwegian navy ship when it was based here during the war and became something of a local celebrity here in

montrose

, even known for stealing sausages from the butcher's window, but he was also a real-life hero, saved the lives of at least two crewmates during his time on board and is a story worth reading about well done, bam let's say let's see how the trolls advance you can even pay access for their goods and services here who remembers access to james graham first frames of montrose as we walk towards the city we have a statue of robert peel does anyone know the connection of Robert Peel and Montrose?
Certainly not, I love it, there are a lot of these old signs hidden in montrose montrose tower 1834 220 feet tall funny if you looked at an old photograph of montrose from hundreds of years ago it would look exactly like this one that's true where are you taking me now? let's go have a beer, let's go do it at the snook, it's good, you know, yeah, that's the best part, look out the windows, this whole picture of the beach where we were today, I wish they still had those cabins, they're amazing , lightning bolt, what's in it? today's menu cheers oh you deserve it oh that's so cool that looks amazing five dollar soup and sandwich is amazing here we come we've had our beer the video might be a little chaotic now we've brought you to the Montrose train station now because From here you get a very good view of the Montrose Basin, which is, I believe, the largest inland saltwater lagoon in the UK.
I think I'm right and it is also a very important nature reserve with more than a hundred thousand migratory birds. I think we came here at low tide so the basin is completely empty, but it fills up at high tide and is also a great place to watch a sunset. There is an rspb wildlife center there and they have telescopes and binoculars where you can watch all the wildlife, a really great place to visit. We would also love to walk around the basin at some point, but it is a hike. I can see seagulls, so here we go.
It was a beautiful view of the Montrose Basin and another great thing about the train station here is that it is on the East Coast Main Line so I still have access to all the places in Scotland. It won't affect my videos. I can even get a Caledonian sleeper from there. Where do we go now that we're back? on the high street and that's okay, shopping here may not be up to Edinburgh standards but we have everything we need. I'd love to know what the Royal Arch is. Okay, we have the Royal Arch pub, but it clearly isn't.
It's the Holy Royal Arch, right, if we get closer, I'm pretty sure that's where William Lam's studio is, but I have a horrible feeling it's close to the public right now, why are you outside? “I found the studio,” he says. It's open Tuesday, Saturday 2-5, which means it would be open now, but there is another sign saying it won't be open for some time. From now on, I love this old sign. I'm not sure how clearly you can see it, but it says rainbow theater well, I'm not sure what that is and we don't have a theater for you right now in Montrose, but we do have a movie theater right over here.
Hi ladies, I see the cinema is here and it's in a building that used to be the swimming pool before that, move to the new leisure centre, play golf in another pub, hey we could do a pub crawl with Montrose oh , that would be an amazing video, I don't know what it would be like because of the In the end, we're pretty much back to where we started, that's how

small

Montrose is, but we're not done yet. Just down the road we have Links Park which is the home of the Montrose football club. to a game here at the end of last season it was a play off to get into the scottish championship we won the game that night but then we lost the first leg so we're still in league one I think it's called but anyway that's how it was Good evening, oh I love Montrose, wherever you are you can always see the tower which is very useful if you get lost or drunk.
There's a cool path here that cuts through the overgrown old cemetery. It's much better in spring, but it's cooler. At any time of year, one thing's for sure: we still don't know much about Montrose, but we're in the right place to know that admission to the Wii Museum in Montrose is free and much better than I had imagined, with some really cool exhibits. from Past and Present, in fact, it would have made a lot more sense for us to come here before making the video, but here we go, you live and you learn. Oh, and like I said before, the main street hasn't really changed at all, I think that's us.
For today we are absolutely exhausted by the heat. We haven't shown you around Montrose, but we've given you a good party and I hope you've enjoyed taking a look at our new hometown. Thanks for watching people watch them. later, by the way, just to finish, if ever there was a sign that Montrose was the place for us, well for me, check this out, let me take you, we are dreams, we are candles, we are lights, we are believers, we are safe with each other. to each other but we are shouting let me take you
