Apr 26, 2024
Le Bucky Brooks Lance zerline here with you again, we've been talking about the Bears and the potential for Caleb Williams to be the number one

pick

and then we could quarterback the first three

pick

s for the fourth time in NFL history, I think. . One of Bucky's biggest questions is: when will he get it right next time, and will we get four in a row for the first time? It doesn't seem likely at this point, but we'll have a little fun with those first three picks. For fun, we talk about the quarterbacks generating interest in the

draft

.

There's a lot of intrigue around this quarterback class because we're talking about up to six quarterbacks going in the first round, but

every

one wants to know what we know about the big three. There will be four and when will the four leave? The Giants are a team to watch. There have been many giants. Buzz today. Lane line at six. What do they do? They stay and choose a receiver. They try to go up to three or go down maybe. We'll see, I think it's going to be really interesting because the

draft

will really start with New England, yeah, and New England if they decide to stay and pick, and that's kind of like Intel right now, they'll stay and pick and if it becomes Drake, I think the Giants could trade, you know, there are some rumors that they might not be, as you know, inclined to draft JJ McCarthy at that number three spot in a trade or at the number four spot or even at the number six. so I think this draft is going to be, you know, a lot of us had quarterback quarterback quarterback quarterback we thought there was going to be a four team race.

More Interesting Facts About,

I don't know what Arizona is doing now. Does Traderman come back again or does he say me? No, I'm not going to give up one of these really good wide receivers like Vecinos or Adun or you know Marvin Harrison J Junor. I think he can stay and pick number four, so it'll be fun what you're going to get. a very good receiver, if that's where you go at number four, we certainly hope so, so with that let's go to the draft room for the first time, amazing man, we waited years to say this, welcome to the NFL draft in Detroit , let's go to Big D.

Detroit, come on, okay Detroit, we have fans from 32 teams down here and of course all the Detroit faithful in the back, welcome to all of you and most importantly, thanks to Detroit, you guys have been amazing , okay, you are ready to start this show. the road is good, the 2024 NFL draft is already underway, the Chicago Bears are now on the clock, it seems like we've waited months to hear those words from Roger Goodell, the Bears are now on the clock when you look at the best from Lance zline available and sights. This is the part I love Lance because a quarterback is not your number one overall player.
No, they are Malik's neighbors, but he is not going to be number one. No, he's not going to be number one. But after watching the tape, he just let the tape do the talking. and I think the neighbors and Harrison are basically 1 a and 1B but right behind them is Caleb Williams but then right behind Caleb Williams is Jaden Daniels and he's really close and I know we'll get a chance to talk a little bit more in depth about Jaden Daniels there's no doubt about it and with that, let's take a look at the draft camera presented by Expedia that takes us to the Chicago Bears draft room, front and

center

, right there, Ryan places the Bears GM doing that No. 1 overall pick, Matt Eber, flu right there. to his Bears left head coach that he's coming back for another season here and hopefully we'll have a new quarterback here in about eight minutes, but Bucky doesn't look like they're working very hard there, which means the hay is there.
The barn is very quiet, so what is happening inside that recruiting room right now? Do you think it's OK? So they have done all the conversations they have had to find out who will be chosen. Pick up the phone and call Caleb Williams. They want to make sure they have Caleb Williams on the line. Make sure he's okay. It's all there. They're about to tell them: Hey, we're about to take you with our No. 1 overall pick and that's it. To be very funny, they will wait a little while to do it, but look at the born Hayes, we are just waiting to see Kay Williams here, her name is called and she becomes an official bear, so no, no one wants to take, just take one further. look at the tattoo, real quick, we're all done, look, it's easy, they should have done all the work they knew who to pick and they only brought in one quarterback in the business, so we know that's right, we have something pretty good. is the pick and then the draft will start to get really interesting as curiosity grows about who will be the next player to come out of the Green Room in Detroit. 13 players inside the Green Room in Detroit, including Caleb Williams,

live

on the land there.
We will cross the stage in a matter of moments, hug Roger Goodell and then take a photo with that shirt for the first time, but you already know if it is Caleb Williams who arrives as number two to the commanders. who then goes three to the Patriots, the three best quarterbacks we've talked about, Jaden and Drake, are also in Detroit, but as far as the Bears here, uh, Lance, they obviously knew this was going to be a moment in which They were going to have a chance here to reset their quarterback clock to reset their quarterback salary and then move Justin Fields to Pittsburgh.
They got a little in return for him and now they hope to put the franchise on the shoulders of a new quarterback, yes. Frankly, it was the only move Chicago could make to be honest with you. I mean, you have a talented quarterback in Caleb Williams and most importantly, as you mentioned, you have a chance to go with your quarterback Ryan poles and Matt Eberflus didn't draft Justin Fields. If you're going to succeed or if you're going to fail as a GM and a head coach, at some point you want to do it with your guy, your guy, and you want that to be your defining moment and you know when you added.
All in all it really made more sense to draft Caleb Williams to start over. I think he's a more accomplished passer out of the pocket. um, he's not, he's not the perfect prospect. I know there was a lot of talk about generational this and that. Bucky will tell you there's not a lot of generational, the word is used a lot, yes, but the talent that Caleb Williams has and we'll get to it here in just a second, the talent that he has can elevate the Chicago Bears, I think. the same way we saw CJ Stout lift the Houston Texans as long as Ryan continues to build poles around him, yeah, I think that's a great point that you do well and then because they're going to have a chance. build around him at eight picks if they stay there at number nine, which is kind of a rarity for a team that takes a quarterback at number one overall, by the way, I thought our Ace researcher, John Todd, who is with us, um, over the course of the next few days they mentioned that the Bears will be just the fourth team in the common draft era to trade for a future and then make him No. 1 overall for the first time since draft 84, obviously, are in this position. because of the trade they made with the Carolina Panthers, the Panthers moved up to one last year, Bryce, the young Bears came back, but now the Panthers pick is what they're making here at the one, they're going to make their own pick at the nine, uh, Bucky.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape your franchise here, yes, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and when you pick number one overall, what you're trying to do is see that there's a gold jacket caliber player that's going to be available at the number one overall pick. "It's a franchise change and this is an opportunity for the Bears to finally hit a home run off a quarterback and so, after you've done all the research and after you've done the study and you've had all the conversations about whether "Caleb Williams is the choice." We hope that he can be a transcendent player that really guides this franchise for the next decade, as well as achieving a lot of success and championship contention, yeah, no question, okay, when do you think the Bears settled on Caleb Williams as you know? , obviously?
We were at the Pro Day, I had it for you

live

here in the NFL and it was clear that they had a great contingent there. Keenan Keenan Allen even shows up, right? I mean Lance, as you go through this process, how clear and how quickly do you create it? It would be if of course they still made the right choice, but how clearly and quickly do you think they decided who their guy was? I think it's probably sooner than they would tell you if you really want to know the truth. I think you know you have to remember that one of the confidants that left the Kansas City Chiefs, Trey Kosel, who is a uh in the, was a scout there, a really good scout and then he went with Ryan Poles there, meet Caleb.
Williams, he also knows Romad Dun very well and I think when you have a guy that you've studied a lot, you bring him into the building and you remember that Ryan Poles came from Kansas City and

every

one saw the difference that b Mahomes makes and I know that The comparisons exist, but when you think about all that and put it together, I think really in their mind they look at Caleb Williams and probably at some point very early in the process he was the favorite. and there was simply never a reason for him not to be the favorite.
The Jaden Daniels tape is great, but I don't think there has ever been a time where Jaden Daniels has surpassed Caleb Williams. Seriously, I'm not sure who we're going for. To take here, I think it was always Caleb Williams, honestly, yes, so we'll know in a matter of seconds because the pick is already in place for the Chicago Bears, they are ready to announce to their fans who the next quarterback will be. They hope to take them to a Super Bowl to win playoff games the last time they won a playoff game. Jakay Cutler was the quarterback, oh J, yeah, in the NFC championship game that lost to the Green Bay Packers the year they won the Super Bowl before Rex grman right took him to a Super Bowl too, Will this pick represent the next quarterback that will lead the Chicago Bears to the promised land to the postseason and beyond now we return to the podium and Roger Goodell with the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select the Caleb Williams' quarterback in Southern California, there's the wire-to-wire projection at number one is no longer a prospect.
Caleb Williams is a pro and the next quarterback of the Chicago Bears and how he does it. that walk a little high five with Jaden Daniels who could very well be the next to make that walk, but Caleb goes out there, he's going to cross that stage, he's going to give Roger Goodell a hug and he's going to become the future of the Chicago Bears and this is a guy who has been in the spotlight at USC, who has been in the college football spotlight since taking over midway through the 2021 season replacing Spencer Rattler as a member of the Oklahoma Sooners.
Then he followed Lincoln Riley to USC and now you get that burst of excitement. scream, shout, hug and that's what this moment is about, that's what tonight is about, the celebration after all the drama, the intrigue, the mystery, the chaos. Caleb Williams is actually the number one overall pick and he's headed to Chicago, he's having some water uh. with his personality or whatever I like, I like what I just saw from him, I like the energy he brings and you have to remember something here, he is a creative playmaker, he says it right there, he's Twitchy, It's the home run. hitter, but what you're seeing with Caleb Williams is that he has the dramatic ability to be a playmaker inside the pocket and a playmaker outside the pocket, he puts good air under the deep ball, as you see here, the deep touch is something that sets him aside, elite arm talent, the ability to throw through the body, that's usually not something a quarterback coach likes very much, but he can get away with it, he has the ability to reset on the move and create a new pocket outside or just. throwing it while he's on the move throwing left and right and finally his ability as a dynamic runner says here and I agree with this, his Bucky ability to not only win inside the pocket but also come out of the pocket and make big plays happen is something that really sets him apart, so USC's Caleb Williams now to the Chicago Bears as the number one overall pick.
Bucky is theeasy choice brought to you by Bud Light, yeah, I mean, look, it was easy, it was easy. Going back to the fall, this was the guy who was the presumed QB1 of this draft class, going back to the time he won the Heisman Trophy and look, he didn't have the year he wanted team-wise, but you still saw the flashes in the tape that separate him from others outstanding arm Talent great IQ, the creativity is there and most importantly he has The Moxy and the playmaking ability that every quarterback coach and offensive coordinator desires. This is the guy the Chicago Bears have hit. home run for their quarterback now they have to make sure they set him up for a lot of success.
I'll give you a statistic, you talk about making key plays, a statistic that blew my mind when I was reviewing some of the data points. in the last two years he had 46 touchdowns to one interception in the Red Zone 46 touchdowns and that includes 32 for 1 in 2022 this year. I think he struggled with maybe doing too much. Bucky, he tried to take on too much. He carries too much of the hero ball, but when you look at 46 touchdowns from an interception taking care of the ball in the most important area of the field, I mean that's an exceptional number.
I've never seen anything like it and there's the pick, uh, the pick, the player and the pick that the Bears know, we've been waiting for quite some time, as Ryan PES and Matt E flu get hugs, handshakes and rounds of applause when they made that call to Caleb Williams to quit. they knew he would be their next franchise quarterback Bears fans erupt, although there were some mixed emotions when they traded Justin Field, some thought they were building something there with his dynamic ability as a running back and make no mistake, Caleb Williams can run with the ball well, no. pretty much like Justin Fields did, but he represents, you know, the creativity we were talking about, that home run ability.
I guess Bucky, the hit we took on Caleb Williams is too much, too much, looking for Touchdown, MH takes the first try. every once in a while CU, they finally lead to the paint, yeah if you look at his last season, his last season in SE was too much sand, it was a lot of work outside the structure and the question you have as an evaluator can he be a playmaker disciplined and detailed? Can he stay within the rhythm of the offense so that the play caller can provide a rhythm when he tries to put together the game plan?
I think it's an easy solution. I think it's one of those things that, uh, Ryan Po's benefits from seeing Pat Mahomes' progression, they don't say they're the same player, but when Pat Mahs was coming out of Texas Tech, those were some of the questions he was asked. how he could play within a structured offense, well, Ryan Po. I had the opportunity to watch Patrick Mahomes go from being a creative playmaker to being a more disciplined and detailed performer inside the pocket. I think what you do is the give and take that you have with Cayb Williams.
Hey, we want it to be you, but. make sure we stay on schedule, stay within the offense and most importantly take care of the football, and look, this is a guy that understood that every time he walked on the field, you knew that most of the time the defense had just given up an opportunity. big play or a touchdown and it was on him and in that offense that those who responded see understand some of the weight that he had put on his shoulders to make those crazy plays for USC to get those wins, so it's Caleb Williams who is the next one player to come out of The Green Room is the next quarterback we're certainly hoping for with the Washington Commanders now with 227 left on the clock, though it appears his pick may already be in, as that clock has gone Dan Quinn Adam Peters New Era of Washington Commander football uh here at the lane line we've talked about the options here, was it Jaden Daniels or Drake May?
How do you ultimately see this? I think it's Jaden Daniels and to me, you know on tape he had the best tape of any quarterback and I mean. that includes Caleb Williams, that includes Drake, that can include JJ McCarthy, anyone you want to mention Michael Pennick, the best tape in 2024 went to Jaden Daniels and what makes him special is that he is a true career quarterback, pass, he's a true dual-threat quarterback. A lot of times with dual-threat quarterbacks, you'll have that slider that goes a little more to the run side, not so much to the pass side.
He has a good balance between running and passing, and I think five years of experience. It's something we'll talk about, but five years of experience as a starter is very important to me when taking over a franchise like Washington. It's been through ups and downs, I think it's important, yes, of course, and we're going to have The election is here for you in just a moment, so the commanders in Washington may also be ready to hand over their franchise to a new interlocutor and with that we get the pick now of commissioner Roger Goodell with the second pick in Washington's 2024 NFL draft.
Selected Major Jayen Daniels quarterback LSU Washington Majors over the course of the last four or five months have been linked to almost every quarterback in this draft. Would you consider a trade up to number one to try to get Caleb Williams if you stayed there? two, was it Daniels or Drake May or could they actually favor JJ McCarthy? Not him, in fact, he is the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, so the last two Heisman Trophy winners now go back to back. 2022 is the winner. Caleb Williams now beat Jaden Daniels by just shy of 5,000 yards. in 2023 to lead the only FBS player with 40+ touchdown passes and 10+ rushing touchdowns, an absolutely incredible athlete with a big time arm and who uses some big time weapons on the outside who will hear their names called here shortly, as well as his tiger teammates.
What's in the new era is upon the Washington commanders and when Jaden Daniels walks out on stage, another burst of emotion and a big hug and DB with commissioner Roger Goodell and just like that, Jaden Daniels becomes the next quarterback of Pilot in the Washington Commander franchise this after they sent Sam how on his way he was traded to Seattle clearing the way for a new quarterback here Bucky and Jaden Daniels is that man, yes Jaden Daniels is that man and the interesting thing Jen Daniels What I love about him is the steady progression he made from his time at Ona State through his time at LSU touch accuracy timing shows he consistently drops the ball in the bucket on those deep shots he has division where he can throw with anticipation and timing it we saw time and time again uh doing his tenure at LSU yeah, he's got some talented playmakers around him, but he might have been the biggest playmaker in that offense, being able to break down the pocket, he can create improvised runs, runs of designed quarterbacks, he has all that, but also the ability to really stay in the pocket and make those plays this is the new school quarterback, the prototypical quarterback that we are looking at, he is a dynamic athlete who also He's a polished pocket passer, I'm excited to see what Jaden Daniels does in Washington.
I think what really stands out for me is if you look at the footwork and it's important to him, I mean, he's really worked on it and you'll notice that the footwork is really good, he finds his platforms when he throws, he goes through progressions, a lot of people have criticized him for coming out of the pocket too quickly, I think if he just sees an opening he wants to go 25 yards and often he does and he can, and I don't think if you really watch it he can beat the progressions, he can reach three to four deep.
He can complete all of his progressions, he can sit there and put his feet in the way he needs to. I think you know throwing outside the numbers for me can be a little bit of a problem and sometimes pushing a deep ball will do that. I get off the gas a little bit at times, but I love his command of the offense and I love the way he protects himself at the line of scrimmage, which is a very underrated skill for quarterbacks coming out of college. He commands the field like an NFL quarterback and that's what he really, yeah, he does, I don't, but that's why you're in the lead, you mention these bottoms that you miss, pilot def Miss said in your notes and the SC report is here. giving us all kinds of metaphors and clues, yeah, you know what the phenomenal video of the commander that they posted today on social media, essentially announcing that they were retiring Daryl Green number 28 and being a little surprised because he was giving her an impassioned plea. those next major players who were going to be drafted today as those who would continue the tradition of Washington football there in the nation's capital.
I thought it would be really cool to understand that today, so surely Darl Green will be smiling and this is a you know. This is a big moment for Bucky, a new power structure, ownership rights at the top, certainly clearing the deck with the GM and with the head coach bringing in Adam Peters, who has helped see some draft picks phenomenal in San Francisco the last few years and then look, Dan Quinn was a winner, say what you want about how the Super Bowl went, but he got Atlanta there and now they have the quarterback who can help them, you know, revitalize the success they had in previous destinations.
Oh yes, they certainly can. do it there, you see Irvin Magic Johnson, he welcomes some of the ownership group, the commanders, and this is what I think we've learned. Adam Peters learned from his mistake with Tre Lance. Tre Lance didn't have much experience and then you think. about Dan Quinn Dan Quinn Quinn had the most success of him with Matt Ryan Matt Ryan entered the league as an experienced player even though Dan Quinn didn't draft him. I think there are certainly factors that go into it when you have an experienced player who is very successful. It makes you want to replicate that.
I think the plan has been set and established. The commander should be excited about Jen Daniels. I want to say something else. You know the offensive coordinator is Cliff Kingsbury, yeah, and Cliff Kingsbury when you look at where he's been. at his best has been with Johnny Manzel who was a pass rush quarterback, an athletic quarterback, an athletic quarterback and then you look at Kyler Murray and he's the guy that drafted Kyler Murray, so In my first mock draft I had I thought you'd know who would be great. is pairing Cliff Kingsbery with Jaden Daniels and I'm glad this is happening now, let's see if the New England Patriots are the ones ready to pair with Gerard Mayo, their new head coach with Elliot Wolf leading their personnel charge now after the departure by Bill bich, who filled both roles there in New England and to see who the next New England Patriot is, we return to the Draft Hall in Detroit with the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select the quarterback Drake May North.
Carolina, how we feel, Bucky, so there's the chalk. Carina is in the house, let's do it. I mean, I was born on AAR Hill. I'm a Tar Hill loaf and I need more enthusiasm, but I mean, I'm really excited. because this is an all-time great guy and then when you look at the tape and the game and what he did in North Carolina, it seems like he didn't live up to the team's expectations, but this guy was a stud, the Big Time arm. Big Time playmaker, the comparisons to Josh Allen for me are real, he is the prototype in position size arm, talent IQ, personality, leadership skills, he has it all, the only thing he doesn't have is the experience and inexperience leads to some inconsistencies, but if he irons that part, you're talking about a superstar in this league, well that's true because you know you should have that fit check before you're on the iso camera walking down the hall .
You had to make sure everything was okay. but yeah, I'm with you Drake, there you go, it doesn't matter man, because the only thing that matters is what you do when you put on a New England Patriots uniform and there's Drake May showing off those Patriots threads for the first time time. M Jones out this offseason and now on to Drake May, so Lance tells us what we love about the UNCC QB. His traits of this gentleman are the size and athleticism of the selected quarterback. He has a great arm, an unquestionable arm. Talent. Without a doubt, I think the other one.
What really stands out when you look at Drake May is that he is fearless, now he has guts, as Bucky mentioned at one point, that turns into mistakes and he has to control it, but you would rather say woe than walk away, like they say about a quarterback. and he has a lot of potential, he has good touch and accuracy at the B on throws to the end zone. I think that's something he really needs to work on is the short stuff, not the 100 pitching.miles per hour, but he's also a creative player and He's a guy that when he comes out of the pocket he's physical as a runner, but he's not afraid to try to find a creative avenue to get the ball out.
I just mentioned mobility, I mean, that's a big part of who you have to be. In today's NFL you have to be mobile enough to not be a statute that makes teams recognize that they will get hurt if they attack you and miss. If you get close to the king, you better not miss, that's what Drake May does. he's hoping to show some people there in New England, but he's going to need some time, Bucky, he's going to need some time, yeah, he's going to need some time just because he has experience the last four years, he only played football in two of those seasons. his entire senior season due to covid he played behind Sam Howard, didn't get much time as a freshman, then played the last two years at Carolina, so y'all gotta understand, look, it's a work in progress, it's great that they have to Jacobe Pret there.
There's no pressure to put Drake May on the field, but if he has the talent and the traits, you're talking about a stud, you're talking about a superstar that comes from a competitive family. Who loved Tar Hill Nation? His father was a field marshal. There at UNC for a couple of years in the '80s, his brother Luke won an NCAA title on the court. And I mean, go down the list of the family and the athletic traits that you were talking about there, the Lance Zer line, they sure have some genetics and look, I think what we keep coming back to is Bucky's concern with Drake May.
It's the drop in production since 2022, when he was the ACC Offensive Player of the Year with 38 touchdowns and just seven interceptions and then you come back with 23 interceptions. You go up with two touchdowns. You go down with 14. Yes, look, the touchdowns went down a lot, but I think everyone has to understand the new offense. coordinator different system uh young in experience Playmakers around him not to make excuses for him but everything was new around him and the team wasn't as good as they thought it was going to be but I will say this about Drake May Drake May shows He's a super competitive player with a high IQ and I would say the best characteristic is that he brings the connectivity that he will have in the locker room, his ability to connect, especially after a situation where we are talking about M Jones maybe not connect in the correct way.
In the locker room this guy is completely different and I also think it's cool that the night before the draft he and his friends, the little basketball four and four, come on, he had to put the ball in the hoop, he had to get that competitive juice out . He had to get some of that nervous energy out of there, understanding where he was going to start his NFL career on a night like this, so the backs go one, two, three for the fourth time in the common draft ERA. The last time, of course, was in 2021, uh. when we had Trevor Lawrence, Zack Wilson and Trey Lance, it was very interesting to see how that plays out, since now we are also three years away from that draft, so Drake May returned to the New England Patriots, new quarterback of New Era, new from New Era.
Quarterback has been a topic and now the Cardinals having their quarterback in Kyler Murray could pull the first non-quarterback out of the green room or off the board in general depending on what name they call, could it be Marvin Harrison Jr.? or they could surprise us, maybe go with one of those other wide receivers who are sitting there and available in the green room, we'll see when we return to the Draft Hall in Detroit, where Commissioner Roger Goodell will once again take the stage. has been a popular topic of conversation as a trade point not in the months leading up to the draft, but it looks like the Cardinals are making this pick and let's see who they are ready to pair with Kyler Murray there in Arizona with the fourth pick in 2024.
NFL selects Arizona Cardinal wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr Ohio State so we got chalk guys across four picks Caleb Williams Jaden Daniels Drake May Marvin Harrison this is how we all thought the first wide receiver out of the board despite some talk that Radun was going to be the best that Malik's neighbors were gaining ground as the best receiver. I know he's the number one player on your board overall, Lance Zerline, but for the Arizona Cardinals this fits what they've been looking for since Larry Fitzgerald retired or left the organization well, he's bigger than Malik's neighbors, he's going to be more stylish as a beatdown runner than Roman Dun, what you have with Marvin Harrison Jr is a ready-made product, I mean, you take the packaging off your Oculus or whatever video game you have or whatever you're drinking, you take the package off and that's it, and I think from day one he's going to be someone with road acumen, he's going to be someone who can beat the contestant sacks for Kyler Murray. you need DeAndre Hopkins, that hop-type wide receiver, and what you like about Marvin har Marvin Harrison Jr is that he can work at all three levels as well, so there's really nothing he can't do.
He's a rock solid player, Bucky, and he's a player for me that this pick. I am very glad that Monte Aus has not become cute and try to change it because at some point do not pass up great players, do the players not outperform the selections in this one, yes players? about picks and going back, the game with this franchise made a lot of sense because to me Marvin Harrison Jr was very similar to Larry Ferro when Larry Fzg was coming out, meaning he was a Pros Pro from day one, polished route ran great. ball skills, pass catching and ability just has the ability to fill the position as a number one, he has everything you look for and a wide receiver and I think he will have a lot of success at the next level, yeah, I mean clearly. uh, yards after the catch, something we saw a lot from him in Columbus.
I mean, he looks at the smoothness at the top of the routes. I mean, that's where that ship comes in, right, Buck, he's got it and when you have a father, that's gold. Jacky, Hall of Famer, imagine what those conversations have been like since he was little, since he started playing, he has all those things and I think the advantage that he can have over others when he walks into the NFL facility, won. It won't be too big for him, he knows what it's going to be, he knows what he's getting into, what matters. In a way I've said it, he has a lot of that softness and body control that we saw in his father, but in a much bigger way. larger frame I got to see him twice in person the first time I saw him in person he made possibly the best catch I've ever seen in a college football game and it was like an out route or an explosive route huh. the sidelines where he went in like the foot you wouldn't expect to fall in bounds just in bounds I didn't believe it when I saw it, it was so ridiculous, but those are the types of plays he made week in and week out. in Columbus there for the Buckeyes and I mean an absolute player um you know you listen and talk to people inside his building and they say he's a worker like you wouldn't believe he's not involved in In fact I mean he his father was saying you have to go in there and complain more about the ball, that's not his style, he's not the diva, no, that's not his style and you know, I heard the knock against him that Malik's neighbors have .
The dog Marvin Harrison Jr doesn't have that much of a dog, but the problem is that what I have is just watching the tape and watching the production with CJ Strad. He had X production, which is exceptional with a much lesser quarterback. this year he had very similar production and and and almost exactly 14 touchdowns and there's a lot of talk about that, well, this guy needs a better quarterback or this guy doesn't matter who the quarterback is, he's just productive in two losses against Michigan. um he had 120 and 118 yards against Jim Harbaugh, both are losses, but touchdowns in both, that just shows that consistency, Bud, that consistency is there and people shouldn't question a dog that had to live up to the name of his father.
You better believe he took the best hit of everyone and he has done that so far, so we look forward to seeing what Marvin Harrison can do in Arizona. Drake May took the selfie with Patriots fans live in Detroit and when we get back here. draft Center presented by FedEx the LA Chargers at the first pick of the Harbaugh era next draft Center presented by FedEx back here with you Rett Lewis Bucky Brooks and Lance Zerline last pick off the board Marvin Harrison first wide receiver first non-quarterback off the board and is heading to Arizona to team up with Kyler Murray and Kyler Murray had sent out the Tweet earlier today saying I have a feeling today is going to be great The vibes are immaculate I think I knew Marvin Harrison was about to become an Arizona Cardinal and now G What is it? the ghee there for karate uh you know, I don't, I'm not 100% sure oh, he always does that, he always does that alone in the end zone oh, I got you, I cross applesauce in the end zone, uh, sure, sure Speaking of which meditation man, JJ McCarthy could be the next quarterback off the board, not sure where he's headed but we know his former Collegiate head coach is now leading the LA Chargers, the team whose selection is at number five again, another possible trade destination. stays and stays at number five, the last word was that Minnesota couldn't find a trade partner, which meant the Giants were going to sit back and do nothing, so I think the interesting thing here is that We projected all these changes and then at the end of the day, I think a lot of teams decided that they weren't going to play chicken, they were just going to sit tight or maybe they were going to say, look, we're not going to give you what I think. you want in this draft and I think it's really going to obviously alter the picture of where the next quarterback is going to go because McCarthy isn't going here except to talk about the Chargers for a second.
Yeah, so I want to ask Bucky this, so there you go. Michigan style, with Jim Harbaugh, then you have the Ravens style mix, how do you think that combines the terms of the decision making? The J hara way, they get together and that's what they do, yeah, and look, that's fast, I mean, Jim told us right. He told us at Le at the annual meeting of the League that I think an offensive line is paramount, okay, I'm inclined to take your word for it right now, Jim Harbaugh, based on the fact that you had two and three of the best offensive lines. in college football the last three years, so let's see if that's the way it goes as commissioner Roger Goodell is back on the podium with the fifth P pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Los Angeles Chargers they select alternate tackle Joe. Notre's name is fine, so Joe alt. He's the first offensive lineman off the board here, the Lanzer line, he's the chalk of the line group or, we had talked about him as kind of wire to wire number one, there was a deceased JC Lam, love, yeah, in the streets there, but that's all. going to charger, it's Al Al is an extremely confident player when you look at the pedigree as Dab was an NFL tackle, he's got size, he's got athleticism, the length you mention here, as you see there, range, what they mean by range.
It's the ability to go out and go catch those speed rushers, what I really think is also impressive about him is that for a taller

center

or a taller tackle, he does a good job of leveling the pad and driving from his core, a lot of times with taller tackles they have a hard time lowering the deck level they tend to be planted as run blockers he is a Notre Dame run blocker meaning they chase him down and level the deck down and Joe alt is one of the safest picks in this draft and I think you know what you're basically saying now with the Chargers is we're going to beat you up front and then we're going to let our quarterback have a, you know, maybe a little easier.
We're not going to make him carry the entire burden from now on. This was the most transparent election we could. I mean, this was something. I mean, Jim Haro takes over, he always uses the offensive line to really lay the groundwork. for his rebuilding projects he did it at Stanford he did it again with the 49ers and he did it with Michigan winning the national champion title there is no way he was going to deviate from the formula that has been so successful for him he goes and gets Joe alt now he's going to attack Slater, now they've rebuilt this offensive line, he wants to make the game very easy for Justin Herbert, they're going to run the ball and lean on their franchise, their superstar quarterback to just make plays when they need to to making plays instead of just draining everything from them, the Chargers are on their way to building a bruiser.
Because he believes that bully works and, based on his track record, he certainly has a lot of success doing it that way. and with that it's time for our salute to service presented by USAA Joe Altz comes from a proud military family his grandfather on his mother's side Roger Rosemark served in the decadeof 1950 and his father's father, Robert Alt, also served his father, uh, John Al, that's how he played. in the NFL um and he's one of the two Bloodlines that we've seen here in the first five picks, they talked about Marvin Harrison, junior son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Senior, now Joe alt, son of John alt , is headed to the NFL. and playing with the LA Chargers and the pick is already on the New York Giants at number six, so another potential trade possibility off the board at this point, so the Giants, you know, Scuttle's ass here has been that the Giants were a Drake May team, yes, and they may not be with JJ McCarthy, so I know JJ McCarthy would make a lot of sense here, but we'll see if the intelligence coming out of scouting circles has anything What to see because now you can. look at another thug as a tackle, you could look at a JC Leam.
I don't know how you overlook a wide receiver. A lot of people, the number one player on the board is sitting here, well, Malik's neighbors are, but there I have it. I've heard some talk about Roma, Dun, maybe considering him the cleanest prospect, the guy they think would be great in the locker room. I'm not going to overlook a wide receiver, if I'm the Giants, I need to look for a playmaker. if Daniel Jones is going to be my quarterback of the future, which I doubt, or anyone else who wants to have a guy that's special and Bucky, I mean, they've been looking for a number one wide receiver since they traded obj to Cleveland, they've been searching. but but also remember that they've had failures, so they had whatever problems they ended up having with obj at the end of his tenure, then they tried to go after every Tony, that doesn't work, so normally what happens strikes out a couple of ways different ones that you try to go against me that might make Roma not the pick in terms of just facing multiple clean, square pro positions that he can play in that offense, he might be the pick over Malik's neighbors even though Malik Neighbors is the most explosive playmaker guy, it's going to be interesting, it's a great year for this regime in New York, obviously he had this tremendous success in the first year with Brian Dble, he came into Minnesota, won a playoff game, uh , and then things fall off the bus after Dani Jones struggles at first and then the ACL injury still allows him to return, so let's see if that's the choice to continue supporting Daniel Jones in his quest to return to the postseason and return to relevance in the NFC East. another very competitive division as always, so the New York Giants pick at number six is set to be announced with the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the New York Giant selects Malik as receiver's neighbor open LSU so guys after all the talk about drama and chaos this has been pretty shaky here through six picks it really is and I think this is a man this guy has a lot of talent I mean his speed of sliding, he has incredible speed, but the way he slides on the field really sets him apart because it disguises his incredible speed.
I think what we have here, what we're seeing now is a player that might have a little bit of a lower ceiling with him because he's not as polished as Marvin Harrison Jr, but what pushed him just barely surpassed Marvin Harrison. Jr in my ratings, Buck, was the fact that he has Elite Speed Elite competitiveness and there aren't many things he doesn't do well, but what I really love is that he can work from the slot and I think he's a great weapon to work. the you look he can run every route in the book. He's fantastic with the ball in his hands as a run-after-catch guy and just has the ability to step up his game when he needs it.
The comparison I like with DJ MO is real, but this is a great playmaker, one that will make the game easier for Daniel Jones because he can turn those short passes into big plays, for sure and like Lance, like you said, put him in the slot, he ran that slot. Fade to death. in Death Valley at LSU and he was very successful at that uh yeah, put the ball in his hands look at it there it is there it's the slot that fades out again it just appears um and oh God like that and again you like that let me tell you something um, when he gives you that little nod and that's it, you're done, it's a wrap because if you don't step on something that he shows you and he can also angle the corners, that's one of the things that I really like about him is that Polish isn't. pretty much there as a loss The running back hasn't needed to be, they run in space a lot at LSU, but man, when you see what he's able to do with his hips, his feet, the suddenness, the burst, his ability to accelerate from 0 at 60 it is almost instantaneous. and and that's something to me that SL again that's another slot not that's what they called it against tasm again you're going to see it you're going to see see a lot of them you're going to see a lot of them but um, you know, it really was a lot.
Most effective from the slot, but can work outside and then some. Another factor that I really think is very much under discussion with Malik's neighbors is that you talk about his speed and roughness, but he is a competitive, competitive guy. he's going to pick you up, put you on his hip, take the arm extension, he's going to go get it, you talk about the dog Bucky, the dog stuff shows up when it's 50/50 and he's got that dog in the balls 50-50 , Yeah. No questions and look, I mean, you want to talk about a guy who is consistently productive LED FBS with over 120 receiving yards per game for Jaden Daniels and the Tigers this year and we'll see his friend Brian Thomas's name come off the board . in no time, uh also, there we are with six picks and we only have eight players left in the Green Room in Detroit, five of the first six have G live from Detroit.
What has been noted so far is that the way things continue with the Tennessee Titans Now on the clock at number seven is offensive lineman Ram Carthon and new head coach Brian Callahan when we return to the Draft Center presented by FedEx here with you as we await the Tennessee Titans' pick at number seven, last player off the board. Malik's neighbor's second wide receiver emerged from the green room and crossed the stage as the newest member now, although the New York Giants got their one wide receiver for Daniel Jones. If that remains the case for the first night, we'll welcome everyone, Rhett.
Lewis Bucky Brooks Lance zerline I'm glad to be here with you on one of our favorite nights of the year. You've seen the celebrations so far. You've seen the excitement so far. But what we've really seen so far is chalk. This is the The way we've talked about this going in some way for the last few weeks, at least Caleb Williams 1 Jaden Daniels 2 Drake on May 3rd and then Bucky Brooks, we have the three position players Marvin Harrison, the first catcher Joe. Charger's first offensive lineman surprises Jim Harbaugh and then Malik's neighbors as the Giants' new wide receiver, so what does that mean the Titans are looking here in the draft now because this is the only team we have ?
They couldn't fully understand how they were going to do it, they brought in Bill Callahan over the offensive line guru, but does that mean they need to take something high because he's been able to do it with lesser talents throughout his career? They actually signed Kelvin this offseason to go with DeAndre Hopkins, do they need to get a young wide receiver? They tried to do it with Trayon Burks a couple of years ago, so now they're going to look for a physical playmaker like Roman Dun to put together an 11-man package. Calley. on one hand, dandre Hopkins, on the other, and Roman Dun bouncing around, it might seem like they've gone all in on Will Levis, yeah, you get a wide receiver, now you're really putting all your support around that quarterback, if that's the case. offensive lineman Lance, who do you think? fits well with what Bill Callahan is looking for, I think JC leam and uh TSI fuaga would be the two guys, it would make a lot of sense, what about a talented guy who is still a little raw in Olu fashu, that could be the choice here at seven, a little too early for me, okay, a little too early, there you go, so in the offensive lineman Rich draft, do we see one coming here or do we get the third wide receiver or does an outfield pick come out? left right now?
Roger Goodell getting out of his t getting ready to announce the next pick coming out or getting a shot from home, see where they're celebrating, let's get to the draft with the 7th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Tennessee Titans select tackle JC leam . Alabama, okay, you had him there, Lance, you called him right, I mean, Broad Street Bully, yeah, he's a weird, weird size, he's got, according to the people of Alabama, the highest lean mass numbers they've ever had for an offensive lineman. I think that may include DJ Fluker, who is an absolute phenomenon. Show JC leam is incredibly powerful when you see him on tape, although that doesn't stop him from going out and getting through the setup, but we'll get to the exos of him in a second.
I think what this does for Tennessee is this is a team that has been built on the run game for years and years since Chris Jones, even when V was there, you go to Derek Henry for years and years and that's who they are and If you ask Will Levis to do too much, I think he will regress if you protect him with a run game and pass protection, which can do both. I think you're in good shape and what I love about Ucky and you know it from being in the locker room or in the front office, he can play right tackle, but if things don't go well he has Pro Bowl potential at a position. on call, he absolutely has it.
I think to me this is Rand Carthon putting his stamp on the team knowing that he ran pretty well after having seen the run through his time saying that the Tennessee Titans are still going to play Bully Ball even though they are surrounding the quarterback outfield on a great pick, there's his first monster hug of the night, put him in a position to succeed, they got a great guy who can play that Smashmouth football they want to play Bill Callahan endorsed this pick JC Le He's out there alone because the offensive line coach says, "Hey, we want to make sure we dominate at the point of attack.
The second offensive lineman off the board is JC." Leam, who had really been making it look like a push, at least through draft rumors in recent days and weeks, so much so that we thought he might end up being the first one off the board. What do we love about it here? Lance, well, we love it. He now he has strong hands when he puts his hands on you. You probably won't escape once he goes down. I like the fact that he can anchor himself. You see it widen with the base to unlock the hips. the knees, the ankles, he has the ability, as you saw right there, to deal with spin moves and passing spins, so a lot of the things we show are the passing game, but I think the running game is where he shines and it's that's why he's My number one tackle on the board is he's an elite R blocker that plays here, he's a simple, he stays after he didn't catch you once, he wanted to go get you twice, he's got the attitude to do it to you know. he's there to whip you every time you come in and finish and I think he's a good enough pass protector.
I think he's maybe a little safer as a pass protector, but I think Leam is just as good and I talked to another offensive line. coaches who had learned just ahead of everyone, but it's close, I mean, they're both great tackles and good news for you, if you need a tackle, this is a great draft. Barett has just one more pick on day two of the second round. I think Really, when you look at where the tackles are going to go here and how much wide receiver talent is available, second of all, yeah, it makes more sense to play it this way, the value of the offensive line is better now, while the value of the receiver is much better value than the offensive line.
The second round is probably part of the calculation here as well. The Falcons pick is here. Bucky Brooks. Could we be talking about the first defensive player off the board? We should be talking about the first defensive player on the board. I think we've already talked about that. for so long it would be an advantage play, they can get an advantage runner, an advantage runner, an advantage runner, but there's something about Raheem Mois spending time watching Aaron Donald dominate like three Technic as an inside player, maybe This may be a place where Byon Murphy is the surprise pick that comes out much sooner than some expected, but when you think about the Atlanta Falcons in their pass rush, they've been at their best when they had a guy like Grady Jared capable of doing it. , so maybe this will lead to Think Inside Before Outside and maybe it'll be the Texas guy coming off the board.
There have been a lot of rumors about the Rams. Maybe trying to go up and get the defensive tackle, those are some of the rumors that I heard here and and if the pick is available, you know they need defensive tackle Byron Murphy, they need a pass rusher, Dallas Turner, but they could also use a wide receiver when you look at the wide receiver room and I don't know If Drake London really has that separation talent you really need for a guy like Kurt Cousins. I think Roman Dunay would fit perfectly, but can you go another way?
You can't do it right. You can not do it. There is no way like you. You can not do it. take another wide receiver here, well now look, they went to get Rond Del Moore via Cardinals trade, speed, playmaker, they got Darnell Mooney out of Bearson free agency, they can't take Lance, They can't take another one, I mean, it's video. football game if they pick another wide receiver, I mean, Kirk would love it, they're with KK, look, if you want to bet on Kirk Cousins, I mean, I'm with Bucky, although I think you most likely can't do that. and you have to go to the defensive side and I think we see Byron Murphy or potential, I mean Byron Murphy or potentially Dallas Turner here, could they surprise us and look at a tackle?
I don't think so, yes, but but. off the tack, yeah, could you look at an offensive lineman here? I really thought this would be a possible trade pick because I expect teams to come after those tackles at some point, but Byron Murphy is one of them, he's the only defensive tackle that's going to do it. be an explosive three-down playmaker in this first round and that's why I think he could be the pick here because it would make sense for Raheem Morris, guess where the Rams came from, the Rams, yeah, guess who he had, Aaron Donald, so let's go back to Detroit now and consult with Commissioner Roger Goodell while we wait for the Falcons' pick and see if that takes the first defensive player off the board.
Turner has been the most popular name throughout the draft process and is also associated with the Falcons, but Murphy. has been gaining steam late is the direction the Falcons are going with the eighth pick in the 2024 NFL draft Atlanta Falcons select Michael penx Jr quarterback Washington, come on, let's watch the family cam brought to you by Icy Hot Michael penck, is it in the a? Falcon, my goodness, the surprise of the draft, hands down, the fourth quarterback off the board for a team that no one expected to take a QB, so no one expected him to take a top 10 QB, I thought about maybe the second round, but Michael. pennick Jr in Atlanta, you're thinking about Kurt, cousin, you're thinking about the fire and the weapons that the Atlanta Falcons have, you need a great playmaker, someone who can throw the ball down the field, look, there's no one better in the draft. throwing the deep ball than Michael Pennick, let's go when we get back and watch the playoffs when we see him against Texas.
We were talking about this guy being an absolute D deal, yes, surgical. The precision in the way he split them up didn't have the same type of game at Michigan, I feel like that affected the way people viewed it, but when you look at the super clean tape pushing the ball down the field, the awareness of anticipation, timing has all that and if you want someone who can operate from the pocket Michael Pennick was your friend so it's early for some but it certainly makes sense if you love the quarterback who can deal look at my guy outside out of the pocket too, makes some good moves inside the pocket, showed you some athleticism at his pro day to put some of those injury concerns to rest, the guy ran a good 44 at his pro day and then was absolutely surgical his entire career in Washington, he had a phenomenal connection with Kin Dore's offensive staff there with the Huskies, even going back to his days in Indiana and now he's a franchise QB waiting for the Atlanta Fou and this is a guy who's 24 or 23 years old.
I'm trying to figure out what we're doing here, what are we talking about with me? Lance, what are we doing? Figure out what we're doing here, well, we have Kurt Cousins and we just pay him, so we know we have a minimum of two years and maybe three years of Kurt Cousins after his injury. We'll see Michael Pennock will have to do it. sit down, I know this is Aaron Rogers Jordan love mode where you can sit for a couple years and I understand this is not a 21 year old quarterback, this is a 23 year old kid who will turn 24 on September 1st , yes, September 1st, so it will.
Being a 24-year-old who will sit out a couple of years and being 26 and 27 when he starts is a very baffling choice. Now I like the player, the player himself, as Bucky mentioned, one of the best you're going to have. figuring out how to push intermediate and deep balls just as Bucky mentioned it was his game against Texas. I was there exploring it in that Sugar Bowl. It was hands down the best play I've seen a quarterback have all year in college football, maybe even going back. a year or two too, I mean it was pretty darn, I mean, it was the place where Precision was incredible, it was Immaculate now, when you watch the tape, you expect to see it all the time and you don't, and you see that at some point it will. he throws the ball up and really goes and lets uh uh really go and lets his three wide receivers, who are excellent, make plays, he doesn't take sacks that the line coaches would love, he has some problems when he gets out of the pocket, although throwing completions is a little worrying, but what Michael Pennick has is six years of starting experience, four in Indiana, which ended in season-ending injuries in Washington, where he was injury-free and faced adversity, Bucky.
So adversity checks productivity, checks arm, talent, lots of check marks. I just wonder why Atlanta is doing that in this place. It's very disconcerting and they alerted Kirk Cousins to the fact that when he was signing there with Atlanta he knows that now the four fastest quarterbacks have arrived. off the board in the common draft era, the previous fastest time was in Josh Rosen's draft when he finished 10th overall to the Cardinals as the fourth quarterback off the board, so it's been an exceptional night for the QBs and now the Chicago Bears are ready. to make their second pick here on the top 10 list and nine overall to see who they will be paired with Caleb Williams who made the first overall pick in this draft and with that we are ready to return live to Detroit where hundreds of thousands I just got the surprise of the night with Penck off the board.
What do the Bears have in store for an encore? Roger Goodell once again takes the podium with the ninth pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The Chicago Bears select Rome and wide receiver Washington. Well, we're back to chalking guys, we're back, the train is back on the tracks here momentarily again, they take their quarterback at number one overall in Caleb Williams and the next pick one way or another should be to support the ultimate success of that. young quarterback, this makes Romad Dun now paired with DJ Mor Keenan Allen, arguably the best middle wide receiver trio in football, Bucky Brooks, so what I love about this is that he fits the profile that they have on the perimeter.
The great physical playmaker expands it. He really expands the strike zone for the quarterback and has interchangeability, meaning he can play all positions on the perimeter, so it allows Shane Waldren to figure out how he wants to set up the lineup to make it easier for him to play. to Caleb Williams. and when we think about Keenan Allen being there, but how long is Keenan Allen really going to be there, one or two years, he now he allows Roa to start as an apprentice before he takes over as a real one. I like what the Chicago Bears do.
What they're doing with their first two picks tells you what's really underrated here. Keenan Allen is known as one of the great route runners coming into the league and then as he's been in the league, one of the areas of improvement is really good. fine-tuning the routes but the footwork when he wants, he's outstanding, he just does it consistently, he's learning to play at his top speed, but when you look at Keenan Allen, he's a guy that can play faster than his time. With Romad Dun, I really love it, he can work from all positions including the slot, when the ball goes up it becomes about 80/20.
He has incredible body control in the air. You will always see arm extension and movement. grabs the ball with strong hands outside his frame right there he showed you a little double move he has better speed than you think because he doesn't always play at that top speed that's what I saw there that little whip route shows the skill In my opinion , to become a more refined route runner, but the ball tracks the ball and wins, when the ball goes up, he can win by contesting catches underneath, he can take the slant and go and give you some yards out of the slot or he can just beat you on the field, which is something we saw a lot from Michael Penck, his quarterback is, hey, he throws it to Rome and lets Rome do something with it and Rome usually did something with it, so how about quarterback most prolific field? duo in college football over the course of the past two seasons, consecutively drafting Penck at age eight for the Falcons and now Odun at age nine, whose new quarterback shared a flight to Detroit with him.
The good news is that no souls and adun perished and Williams now lands the plane in Chicago to begin a new era of football for the Bears and this is funny to me if I'm a Chicago Bears fan this sells hope this sells optimism and a offense now Chuck full of firepower Bucky Brooks is how they are going to make it on the field after many years of mediocrity on that side of the ball, yes I mean a lot of optimism, a lot of hope and you should be excited about the playmakers what you have around the young quarterback who should blossom in Caleb Williams now there are a lot of expectations there will be a lot of pressure on Kay Williams to hit the ground running but this team should be ready to go I like what they have put together I like how they have put it together now If the offensive line can continue to take another step forward, this should be a team that can put up points, guys, we have a trade.
The Minnesota Vikings seem to be on the clock now with the pick thanks Ian rppa for yes. squeeze them making sure they get mcarthy JJ McCarthy before the Broncos try to move up D squeezed them a little like hey the Broncos are coming oh my god never believe who's calling now wait wait what Sean oh hey hey , I need to go, take Sean's call you take it, uh, you take the Raiders call, they just went up, they went up to pick up, they had an extra pick, oh, probably, you'll get a fourth one, hey, I'm just telling you, yeah, I could having played, yes.
He could have played there if you wanted to ask, he could have, but this will be JJ McCarthy and it will make a lot of sense because JJ McCarthy in this offense and we'll go into that assuming they make that pick, but I think Minnesota. This is a lesson to a lot of fans who just say change, go, go, step on the gas, all in all, man, what a masterful job by Minnesota, just being patient and letting the draft come to them, they have the pick No. 23. Still, they moved up one spot and will get one of the quarterbacks they targeted.
That's how a draft is run and we'll see if he is indeed the quarterback on the other side when we get back to Detroit. There has been a draft full of quarterbacks so far, it was Caleb Williams Jaden Daniels Drake May and then Michael Pennock in the surprise of the night so far eight for the Falcons now could it be JJ McCarthy for the Vikings who moves up a spot to close out the top 10 when we get back okay so he took the final top 10 pick as we welcome you back to the draft Center presented by FedEx to get our first trade of the night it's a wise move by the Minnesota Vikings. so they trade first round picks, the Jets get 11 and what goes to the New York Jets in terms of actual compensation, a fourth and fifth round pick and then the Jets also send a sixth to the Vikings for the right to have the tenth selection.
Minnesota, who we expect to be the fourth quarterback off the board after Penck left for the Falcons, is in fact JJ McCarthy is the national champion quarterback with just one loss in his college career as a starter, is headed to Minnesota to mate. Kevin Okell, we have a special announcement of this pick from Roger Goodell live from the Draft Hall in Detroit to help make the pick for the Minnesota Vikings. We are honored to have with us the surviving mother brothers and nephew of the fallen hero, United States Army Sergeant Zachary. Ying Zachary diedafter a battle with cancer, a cancer that was discovered after he was injured during his second deployment to Iraq.
We salute and thank his family and take advantage of the survivor tragedy assistance program that offers care to those grieving the loss of a military loved one. I will now turn it over to Sergeant Ying's nephew, Asher, who will announce the selection in honor of his uncle with the 10th pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The Minnesota Vikings select quarterback JJ McCarthy. Great ad from Michigan. Great emotional moment on stage and inside the home of JJ McCarthy, who is the new quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings, after all, it just took a little patience on the part of Kevin Oconnell, ad delaa and the personnel team of the Vikings to sit there and finally you know what we're getting. a little anxious, let's make sure we catch McCarthy after we let Kurt Cousins walk.
Where you go matters well, so if he had gone to New England, that's a tough rebuild, tough cold weather split, um, you could go to the Giants, that's a tough rebuild. well it goes to Kevin's offense OK Connell this is Taylor Made and what really stands out about JJ McCarthy you gotta start with the intangible teams I love the fact that he was 63 and 3 years old from high school and through college He has been a winner and when I say winner he should not be taken lightly because he has great control and confidence on the field, he takes every slight, puts it in his little box of memories and goes out and tries to get you back so he can run the ball away out of the pocket, so he has that ability, he has the ability to really throw early in the middle of the field.
I think he's a quarterback that does a very good job of throwing on the run. incredibly accurate on P passes and that could be some old school uh Mike Shanahan, Gary Kubak, starter action stuff at Center because he's played in the pro style offense there at Michigan so I think this it's the perfect choice for Kansas for the um. Minnesota Vikings of all the quarterbacks, I think this one makes sense and, frankly, for JJ McCarthy, from a proper standpoint, with Jay Jet at wide receiver, I don't know if it could be better if you had picked a team in need better. of quarterbacks. that the Minnesota Vikings really like the pick and I like the pick because Kevin Oconnell routinely sets his quarterbacks up for success and with Sam Darnold there there's not necessarily a rush to get J McCarthy on the field right away, this It's a chance for them to completely build the offense around themselves and Lance.
What I liked about what you talked about about his intangibles and winning attributes, yes we see it time and time again, this guy is a great playmaker, he made the plays necessary to achieve it, but when your team is up and annihilates everyone, you're not going to compile a lot of guard stats, he just knows how to get the team to the Winner's Circle, what matters in this league, it's not a lack of elite plays, it's a lack of elite play volume and that's not McCarthy's choice or his fault, it's the way they played offense and he was an expert at running the offense he led the Michigan Wolverines to the top of the mountain in college football and is the fifth quarterback chosen that is the first time five quarterbacks have gone in the top 10 in the common draft era.
What has been missing in the top 10 defense. We've set a new record for consecutive offensive players to start a draft and with every pick that defense doesn't make. Come on, that record resets and the top two players left in your top 300 right now, yes, Jared ver, yes, Dallas Turner, is it a consideration for the New York Jets or do they take the third offensive tackle that's on the clock? at the moment. Is it for the Jets or is it Brock Bowers time Bucky Brooks, what do you think? I think it's Brock Bowers' time, yeah, I think it's Brock Bowers' time because when you look at where the Jets are, they're in win-now mode, you get a great playmaker in the middle of the field to go with the weapons that They've already assembled, it makes a lot of sense for Aaron Rogers to come back, you want to give him easy completions to allow him to really challenge the entire field, it makes sense to me to put Brock Bowers in the lineup, two aging tackles in free agency, that's where it's going this, I don't know, this is hard for me because Bowers gives you that kind of Allin immediacy to Aaron Rogers and yet how long is Aaron Rogers going to be there because Morgan MOS will be 34 this year on the right side and Teron Smith Isn't it getting younger on the left side?
Aaga could take a step. come in and maybe be a starter this year at right tackle, so it's a tough decision for sure, yeah, and it's faga, there's a chance they prefer Troy Fanu from Washington, like there's a lot of possibilities there, but Brock Bowers, man, how intriguing. it would be for Aaron Rogers with Garrett Wilson on one side Mike Williams when he recovers on the other here's Roger Goodell with the 11th pick in the 2024 NFL draft the New York Jets select Olu fashanu tackles Penn State position wrong player there It's so Penn State's Olu Fashu is the third offensive lineman off the board after Joe Alt and JC Leam and here he goes to the New York Jets and look, you can't argue with the need, Lance, no, the need is there and now the question.
It turns into him being played right away maybe at a guard spot, uh, but I don't really see it, I mean, you've got Verar Tucker, you've got John Simpson, you brought this in, it feels like you let him compete maybe against Morgan Moses on the right side, but probably the most important thing is that you let him learn from Tyron Smith there and I like that, I like the fact that he comes to Mentor, uh, with a guy like Tyron Smith on the left side, always Let Tyron provide that leadership, because I don't. I don't think fashu is ready yet I think there are still some I think there are still some I love that audio it's amazing there are still some holes in his game but man from a traits and athleticism standpoint there's a lot to do.
I like fashu here, yes, a lot, I mean, as a super long athletic, he has all the traits you look for and a prototypical left tackle hasn't put it all together, but man, the upside is tremendous and the New York Jets offer a situation only one where I don't need him to start right away, he can't do it and learn behind some established veterans who have had a lot of success in this league. It's a good way to get him into the league at 21 years old if he had come out last year. he might have been the first off-board tackle we had in that conversation.
He decides to return to Penn State and is now still the 11th pick at the third offensive lineman off the board in the 2024 NFL Draft, so the Denver Broncos are Now, next, where will Shawn Pton go when we return ? Welcome back Draft Center presented by FedEx back here with you surprise of the night Michael Penck fifth quarterback off the board fourth quarterback off the board for the Atlanta Falcons at 8 are the Broncos going? The quarterback makes it six quarterbacks off the board in the first 12 after JJ McCarthy went 11 or rather it was 10 and then Olu fashu, the third offensive lineman, off the board to the Jets after that quick .
I just saw Davis, the quarterbacks coach, giving him a high five. He looks really excited, so I don't know if he's excited about the gun, if he's excited about the quarterback, well obviously look, if it's a quarterback, it's the B Knicks, there's no one left, but Brock Bowers would be really interesting there. I feel like Nicks is actually a good fit for Sean, uh pton, he's kind of, you know, get it in, get it out, we're going to be very controlled, boom, boom, boom, but I'm not sure I'll take it at 12 when you have Brock Bowers, but yeah. you want whoa whoa whoa we can't do that we're in a different hustle right now how all the quarterbacks are going you understand you can't worry if you like them you have to do it here, let me ask you something, give me your sixth favorite quarterback in the draft, yeah, I mean, that one that's ever been traded was sailor6, maybe it doesn't matter out of necessity, but the last time we had six, three of them went to the hall of the hungry. go shopping hungry see what happens you get all this stuff in your you spend too much in your cart I don't know I don't love the idea of Bo Knicks here it's a necessity and I think Bo Knicks had a good season but it would be interesting um red if you had five or six in the first I said they were going six this would be really interesting but look we just ruined a tight end's receptions it hasn't been pleasant for some he has to throw to them that's the real defense anyone plays defense we don't play that's how they like it to America play all offense score points I can't score points in fantasy with defensive players that's a good point except the really nerdy ones this is real and real big moment of this draft, a real pivotal decision point for the Denver Broncos in this point, do we take the first defensive player off the board?
We are already in record territory. It has never taken this long to get a defender off the board for the first time. time, tight end is certainly a possibility, here's Roger Goodell with the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Denver Broncos select Bo Nicks quarterback, Oregon, well now you know why coach of quarterbacks in the draft room was getting very excited, he has his new quarterback, it's B. Nicks Bucky tells us why he's appealing to SE pton B knck it's a look feeling because when you look at the prototype of Drew Brees , B Knick feels it when it comes to an experienced player, uh, really accurate in the intermediate range, connects the dots, does a great job of getting the ball to The Playmakers and experience matters experience of being able to understand the

coverage

they have thrown a lot of things that that Lance has worked on, we've talked about it also the adversity he had to overcome some adversity at Auburn To me, coming to Oregon now and dominating when he played in the Pacific Northwest makes a lot of sense for Shawn Peyton because he's an experienced playmaker with the athleticism and arm talent to execute his system, so the B Knicks have something really nice.
He continued to sleep on the season he had this year, he had a great season at Oregon and one of the things that stands out about what B. Nixon loves to see the celebration here, boy, it's got to be sooner than anyone anticipated in terms of six quarterbacks, but B. Knick to me, from a tape standpoint, is number one, Jaden Daniels, number two, BO Knicks for this year, that's how much I like 45 touchdowns in three picks, you like if you like a 45 to 3 quarterback, uh, touchdown to interception ratio, but the thing about B Knicks, what really stands out to me is you saw some of that with the exos there that we show you its millimeter precision.
He is a very accurate passer, much more than I expected to see. Look, I went in to watch the tape of him and I remembered Auburn B Knicks and I said: Am I going to watch Auburn B Knicks? What I saw was a guy with much more poise. I saw truly pinpoint precision. There is some arm talent seen on these pitches. He can get it out at some tough arm angles and B. The Knicks in terms of throwing from A to B, getting the ball where it needs to be on time and getting it there with accuracy and good placement, there's no question that that's something he really shines at.
I think at the Senior Bowl I saw Happy Feed Kinda, I didn't think he had as much juice in his arm, uh, at the combine, as what I thought I saw on tape, so that was something that made me question it a little bit. little, but I don't know, yes. I don't know if you needed that much with Shawn Pton because Shawn Payton's passing game, Bucky, really helps him in that regard. If we use a model of Drew Brees, he was very Dink and dunk the last few years with the Saints, so he can control the game that way, but don't underestimate his football IQ and don't underestimate the relationship with Davis Webb.
Davis Webb was an Elite 11 advisor. He may have had some experience from his time mentoring Bo Knicks when Bo. The Knicks were overcoming those important relationships and being able to connect on the whiteboard, we talked about Bo Nicks being able to master that part of that, experience allows him to do that. I think he understands the coach's speech that could have been used in Those Games that may have made him the favorite when the Broncos were looking for a quarterback to see a lot of the ball. 61 starts in college football. He has started every game he has played, dating back to his time at Auburn, where he started 13 games.
A true freshman and five-star quarterback coming out of the high school where his father had played, he had dealt with that type of situation, Darren Auburn, and then finally found a home there where he could really show off his skills. with the Oregon Ducks and he absolutely performed. uh, the best he could and now the Raiders arelocked out of the quarterbacks here at 13, where do they go? Do we get that first defensive play or is it a corner or TSA pays? Roger Goodell is still there at 13 p in 2024. The NFL draft, the Las Vegas Raiders, select tight end Brock Bowers, Georgia, so this is the best player available, plain and simple, he took Michael Mayer in the second round last year, he was a quality rookie player for them, a guy you hoped to develop, but now I'm talking about this. is a clear example of blessing the best player available this is the best player available this is Brock Bowers being on your draft board flashing like a blinking light because he was probably better as one of the five best players there this also means being willing to hey How can we think? about our offense differently, yes we took Michael Meer who is a good player but now we can put two tight ends on the field, maybe we can run the ball, maybe this is AP's influence on what it is difficult and challenging to face on defense, but for me this.
The guy is spectacular, an excellent route runner, a playmaker, versatile, he can line up anywhere in the formation, since they tied great with the ball in his hands, he has the kindness and fight to be able to block on the perimeter, no there are a lot of holes in his game, you put him with the Raiders, now you put it to offensive coordinator Luke Gessy, be creative, find a way to get him and the mayor on the field together in a nice and feisty way. I like the mix, so he played at Georgia. He has winning experience.
He's got the Kirby Smart, you know? tough coaching element behind him, I'm sure Antonio Pierce loves that, but the other thing with him is he's an elite option for the yard after the catch and therefore what he does for the quarterbacks is, if you need a way out, ask ston Bennett this as ston Bennett continued. to build his confidence in his championship season, you have a guy who can run the four seam in the four fs and beat the linebackers or who can take the little drag route underneath that they like to run. In Georgia, you just dip it and dip it.
Target him two and three yards in front of the line of scrimmage and let him roll because he runs like a running back. He has incredible contact balance. He's too physical to drag a couple more. This is his favorite running play at Georgia. once he has the ball in his hands, good luck, good luck tackling him, he won't get tackled on this play. I've seen it like eight times when he's on the bench, they can't take him down. I've seen it so many times. times and what you have here is a quarterback's best friend and I'm sure he's making some other team sick that kept saying oh my God, maybe he'll come.
Falling Rock is going down well, the Falls headed to Las Vegas on a night that has been defined by records so far, a record pace for six quarterbacks coming off the board, which has in part influenced another record. We haven't seen a Defenseman come off the board yet and we wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen when the Saints arrive. for your first pick below here at the Draft Center this is the NFL Draft Center presented by FedEx the Saints are on the clock and have yet to make their pick as it currently stands with just over 2 minutes left there are allotted 10 minutes to make that pick last board pick Brock Bowers another surprise of the night I don't remember seeing a single mock draft where the Las Vegas Raiders selected the best tight end in this class after taking Michael Mayor again with a different regime at 35th overall a year ago, so now I have the opportunity to manage two tight ends.
The Saints draft room is on your screen. There doesn't seem to be much activity. It's very dark. Micky Lumis. I need some lights. I need Dennis Allen to maybe be waiting for that phone to arrive. Ring, let's see if anyone wants to do a last minute push-up, we'll see. I'm getting texts from my friends in New Orleans, they must be reading some stuff online, we'll see, but addressing is a big need they haven't found yet. a replacement for Teron Armstead Penning hasn't worked out yet Ryan Ram's injury status is not very encouraging for this season Lance is still pretty good in terms of O Lin, but you have to ask yourself well, you have to determine Is it Toi Fuaga from the state of Oregon?
Is he a player who can play on the left side? We've seen him play on the right side at Oregon State. We know he can play right tackle. Can he slide in and play left tackle? Usually just say yes, but. Do you know if he has the range to handle speedsters? They may need him right away and they may absolutely need him at right tackle and then Fanu, who I think he can stay at left tackle for Washington. You know I could be the pick here. at number 14 because I think he can play left tackle, right tackle or jump inside to score, so I think the offensive line is definitely a spot that they could consider, you can say the best available on our board, uh, in a general position of need would be defensive tackle and Byron Murphy uh Byron Murphy would have Nathan Shepard and Kayin Saunders right in front of him on the defensive line.
I think Murphy, you know, could definitely compete for a starting position right away. It's hard to see because it's really about how you view these tackles because the tackles make a lot of sense for the Saints here at number 14, and you don't change that spot if you need a tackle. because once you get past the first five and we only have three off the board now, once you get past the first five, there's a little drop when you go gon and I'm Marius Mims so I'm not sure you want to get too cute and back off on a trade if you're the Saints, I mean, you've got TSA out of Oregan State, your 14th best player in this draft and he's here available for the Saints to take at 14 Troy. falanu just three places behind him in Lance's top 300 at number 17 uh and then it's a bit like Graham Barton is in that mix too, but more of a one-off guy right, I mean they need to too Rush, yeah, so I guess I mean.
I'd like to say a defensive player is going to go here, but I mean the left tackle spot is a big deal, yeah, and we've already had a big deal, okay, we've already set a record, no defensive player has come off the board. However, the last one we've seen in the common draft era is number eight a couple of years ago, when the Carolina Panthers took JC Horn four 13 picks with no Defensive Backs, but we've had three offensive linemen, this is where we get fourth. Roger Goodell ready with card and Detroit pick with 14th pick in 2024 NFL draft New Orleans Saints select T fuaga tackle Oregon State lunchtime well presented by Applebees Grill and Bar official NFL and well Lance tú is in place, the 14th overall player goes with the 14th pick and he's tough, he's aggressive, he's big, he's incredibly technically sound.
What stands out to me the most is that he can push in the run game, for sure, and so can you. We're going to see a lot of that on the back court, they did a lot of things outside of the Zone, so he's well versed in terms of finding his landmarks as a run blocker and that's a lot of what you're seeing here is going out there. second level, getting your blocks cut, but what makes him special for me are the fast hands, the hit is direct, he plays with his inside hands, the pass, he always has his chin bent, he has the ability to play with those spinning movements and that's because it's well balanced, there's not a lot of lean.
What caught my attention when I saw it was man, this guy, this is a training tape like this, a teaching tape right here from a professional passing standpoint because his technique is just outstanding, so when he gets in the league is not going to have those problems like Trevor Penning had, where he had to feel his way up from the SS level and try to solve it, he hasn't solved it yet, fuaga has already solved it. in my opinion, yes you realize and I will say this having seen the Newland Saints up close, they needed some toughness, they needed some physicality, this is a team that is maybe a bit softer, add some of that evil. that they needed, so this is a good pick for them, they need to run the ball again and be able to do some of those things to protect Derek Carr, but the most important thing is to impose their will on their opponent.
You know, I watch this too. I love the celebration there for Talisa Fonga and you know it's interesting, you know, Ryan Ram when Dennis Allen came out at the League's annual meeting said, "Hey, look, we're a little worried here, not where he wants to be." In terms of potential to come back from rehab and the injury he faced this year, as you mentioned, Penning is not on the jury yet, also James Hurst retired this week, they are starting left guard and this is a player in fonga that could also do an Interior Transition, sure, yeah, absolutely, you know you want, you want Trevor Penning to figure it out, be the guy, yeah, absolutely because you know, if you can start a guy, Larmy Tunel, he started at left guard in Miami and he became that left tackle.
I think what it will give you the opportunity to do right away is give yourself that flexibility at defensive tackle, you just want guys that can play right away if you can find them on the offensive line, but that's really how it is with the Colts. We're looking at the Colt pick right here and who's getting ready to move up. You know the offensive guys so you can move forward. The speed was more dignified. You need a cornerback here. We know Quinon Mitchell, someone I love, but Ballard always loves pass rush and offense. line game, yeah, whenever he talks about needs, you can never have enough hurry, it comes from the Rod Marinelli school that he learned when he was there with the Chicago Bears, where he started with hurry, hurry, hurry, you can never have enough hurry, can.
I never have enough big offensive linemen that can push people and you know they have good running backs, they were in a hurry but they didn't have double digits, so now you have to see Turner and Latu, so you have the maximum. polished running back in the draft in latu, you have the most Tracy guy in Dallas Turner and you have a powerful physical player and Jared ver. These are three great players for Chris Bor to choose from and I didn't even get to Byron Murphy, but The problem is that you just gave Grover a big problem, Grover Stewart, and then you divorce Buckner again, so I don't think can accept Byron Murphy in this place, it just wouldn't make enough sense, but hurry.
It would make some sense that Fanu really fits the type of physicality he likes, but would he convert himself to wide receiver and try to give Anthony Richardson that great option? CU, let's not forget that Chris Balor came from Kansas City and got Patrick Mahomes' job. easy when he had Tyreek hill Brian Thomas can also roll now Bri th Brian Thomas can roll that's right, what was the fastest route of anyone in the comine miles per hour right when it comes to that, but also your friend Chris Bor le like traits so normally traits, so if we think about traits, Dallas Turner Brian, that would be one, Dallas Turner would be one of them.
Mitch would qualify too, so he can pick from the litter when it comes to that, yeah, so I mean, he got his payday two years ago in In the first round at Michigan, he started showing up and being a good piece, not very High there, right? You look at guys like Samson Abby cam, who's there on the edge too? Taquon Lewis, second round, pick six. years ago at this point Deo adbo um those two guys are small guys, you know, the two that let me know that seeing is maybe too much like quiddy pay, so you two start to look like the big features type and Dallas Turner with the juice, but you know latu is it's just about the medicals because you can't find a better duct tape this year, you won't find a better duct tape than latu, you find the production, you see the hands, he makes it easy because he He's playing past the blocker at all times and he's so instinctive as a runner and that's something that I don't think Verse and Turner have as much as the instincts of when your first move closes, can you go to the second one? move so this is a fascinating pick for me I don't know what direction the Colts will go at some point they had to draft a wide receiver or a cornerback but Ballor doesn't love drafting that position in the first round talking about He corners corners or really wide receivers well because if you think about the position, the front can help the back a lot more than the back can help the front, which means the pass rushers help.
The corners play better. Cornerbacks don't necessarily help up front. improved and so I can understand why Chris B would want to go and geta big body at the line of scrimmage regardless you better have those Elite trades because that's what Bor believes in, yeah in the common draft era we've never had 13 straight picks. on the same side of the ball at any point in at least the first three rounds never ever in the common draft era which is since 1967 uh we started this draft with 13 in a row 14 in a row now on the offensive side unless he becomes a wide receiver , I think it does end here it ends here like I think I Corner goes to defense or edge rusher value or Byron Murphy is too much to pass up to pass up, I think so, but you know I would make an argument for Brian Thomas Jr.
I mean I think you I need another weapon for Anthony Richardson because Pierce really hasn't been as electric as you H vertically and Brian Thomas can really come over the top I guess it's going to be defense here just because if you look at the trench construction like he loves it. Is there more available for rushing the passer than for tackle or guard? This is this could be one of those really intriguing moments here. Do we start to unleash a run on defense as we return live to Detroit in an Indianapolis kind of way? Colts pick: Will they get a weapon for Anthony Richardson, who will return as a starter after missing most of his rookie year or do we go defense for the first time with the 15th pick in the 2024 NFL draft?
Indianapolis Colt latu Lau Defensive selection at UCLA, okay, so there's the first defensive player off the board. It's latu latu now for those of you wondering. Where did Dallas Turner go? Where did Jared go? Here's what's clear, it was a clear emphasis within the Indianapolis Colts draft. The room valued the fact that this guy is a Flatout Technician and the most polished pass rusher in this draft. Bucky Brooks, we've had a chance to talk to him several times over the course of this draft process, you know, and he's battled through some adversity. Obviously, the doctors checked and here he is, Edge's first running back off the board.
I tell you, I have never been more impressed with a pass rush than when he sat next to us on set and I had the opportunity to talk to him. on rushing the passer, this is a guy that has Elite first step quickness, he has a look, a pocket, a bag of moves that allows him to be a quarterback against anyone, he is versatile because he can play from a three-point position, a standing position, can play outside. or inside and the motor is always revving when you look at the pass because I think people have to understand that there is an art to it, it's not just about being the biggest and fastest, this guy has mastered the Art of being a pass rusher , so he should be successful from day one in national football, the only question about him was that he was a player who had a neck injury that Washington felt would cost him his football career and retired from football.
UCLA looked at him again and said, I think with certain exercises and certain treatments you're really fine and now on teams and I know there are some teams that had him off the board, but obviously the Colts, right? I talked to some teams that didn't have it. they took him off the board they thought he was going to be fine when you take that element away from him, well there aren't many weaknesses in his game and Bucky talked about a bag for latu, I mean I don't even think he can, he can UND. I don't think he can overstate this enough.
Latu is an incredible runner and when we take a look at the exos of him you will see what we are talking about for Best Value presented by Verizon and that value goes to Chris. Ballard on the Indianapolis Colts by taking the first Defender, the first edge rusher and it's Leu latu uh, let's take a look here, Bucky, at what we love about Lat's game, in the details of that part of the coach, so We talked about having a bag. we talked about the curve and the explosion that he shows right there, the hand skills, you see everything from him dipping, sliding, sliding up and down, he has everything he can play outside and inside, there is an inside runner that can get to home, we saw it at The Senior Bowl here we are going to dive and destroy without stopping.
A relentless competitor loves the resistance he shows. This guy is just a bunny of non-stop energy coming off the edge. He's a handful for blockers and when he gets up to speed, you're talking about the coast of Indianapolis. where Gus Bradley likes to keep things simple for players so they can just walk away and Hunt Latu fits right in because remember he had a lot of success with Yanuk and G in Jacksonville when he was an edge rusher. Latu has even better skills. Good point. there are 20 three and a half sacks in the last two years after his medical retirement in Washington two years of football 23 and a half sacks and talking to him is incredible because he just tells you that he doesn't have a plan he just reacts based on what the offensive tackles feet show them and their weight distribution shows you that's the advanced Rush level right there, yeah, but he's well prepared, his tools give him the opportunity to make that reaction, he just reacts, that's a great point. , so the Colts have landed our latest pick is Le outu latu our first Defender which is an NFL record wait until pick 15 to get the first Defender What do the Seattle Seahawks have up their sleeve at pick number 16?
They are on the clock. We get your next pick. Welcome. Friends, we're about to be halfway through the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft as we're back here at the Draft Center presented by FedEx Brett Lewis Bucky Brooks and Lance Zerine here with you Leu Latu, the latest pick which was made from Detroit. The UCLA edge rusher is the first off-the-board defender to go to the Indianapolis Colts and now we get a glimpse of another new regime, now Seattle's first season with Mike McDonald as their new head coach, John Schneider, perhaps with a little more uh added. played in his role as general manager with Pete Carroll now gone, okay?
Are we starting to have a defensive run here? Buck, what do you think? Well, I mean, they've almost eliminated us from all the players, I mean, we just decided on that defense. It doesn't matter at all, so all you fans, when the season passes and your team can't stop anyone, don't worry. You're out here playing on Twitter getting mad at your coaches because they didn't invest in it. I think Seattle, look, Seattle has the options, they can take an offensive line or they can go defensive. I think Mike McDonald would want to continue to strengthen that. defense that defense has been performing poorly lately, but I don't think they need a cornerback.
I think somewhere inside there is an opportunity for Fatan Fanu here in Washington. Oh, you know the OC connection. You know that the connection with the OC could become very important. He plays in several places. Yeah, do you think they got right tackles they got both of them two years ago, young guys, maybe on the interior you start to find maybe even in the Center you start to find some spots, there goes 16 straight offensive picks just 16 in a row, Yeah? six, that would be 15, remind me to look, I mean, the birdies have been the birdies have been singing that if Byron Murphy fell that far, John Schneider would be elated, that was a birdie squeaker, so the birds are singing, that they would love Schneider, that Schneider.
I would love Byron Murphy instead I guess it's obviously the blessing of Mike McDonald um, who you know comes from the Ravens um, but man, you make a good point about Fanu, you have a guy, you know his football character because you have you . I know you got food there, asator, yeah, they got Leonard Williams, jiren, Reed Draymond Jones paid a lot of money too, yeah, they played MAF, uh, and it's hard to beat him because what does that defense really look like? I looked at it as if Baltimore's true defense was drastically different than what they were running with cornerback Pete Carroll.
I mean, could we look at the quarterback? I mean, yeah, I haven't had one yet, there's no corner and I mean, Alice Turner is still standing. the board, who do we have, so Jared see your top available, so Jared see, yeah, but I noticed that Jared is going to slide a little bit in this draft. Some teams think he's a little stiff, they'll find out they're wrong, they'll find out they're wrong, yeah, in a few years you'll find out you may have underestimated Mr. Verse, but those are two really good pass rushers still on the board. .
There is still a good cornerback on the board. Byron Murphy is still on the board. good football players, I mean, this is a little bit deeper than True's first round grades in this year's draft, but it's a lot harder now that there are so many offensive, I mean, all the quarterbacks in field are removed from the board, what surprises me is that we haven't had more. changes, yes, only one loves it, only one so far and we won't get one here. The selection is ready for the Seattle commissioner. Roger Goodell is waiting in line for him to get up to the podium and announce this selection for the Seattle Seahawks first for the head coach.
Mike McDonald wonders what kind of influence that plays as the Seattle Seahawks look to return to that golden era when the legion of Boom and Co. dominated the defensive side of the ball and without further ado, here's the pick, thanks to our men and women who serve in the United States military their sacrifices defend the freedom of our country do not go unnoticed thank you very much with the 16th pick in the 2024 NFL draft the Seattle Seahawks select defensive tackle Byron Murphy Texas the birds chirped and I guess They were Right on it, boy, there's a lot of defensive tackles, there's not a lot of them, but you know the versatility when you have a lot of them, that means you can bid and you know get back what you need, luck, what kind of what kind.
Defense, are we running there? I think I think they're going to run a hybrid defense, they have all that defensive tactics that they can, they can do a lot of things, but I will say that Willams plays that five out there, five put Byron's nose. the nose, yeah, I mean, they can do some fun things, this guy is super explosive, great hand skills, plays with energy, a little reckless in terms of the middle, creates mayhem and mayhem, like the disruptive plays and what we know On Mike McDonald, he knows how to make it work, he made it work last year with Baltimore when they didn't really have a pure pass rush and he found a way to do it, he'll find a way to create one-on-one opportunities for Brian Murphy and for you".
I will see that the rest of those guys also benefit from the presence of him, a tremendous tester. The quickness of the first step is truly unmatched among interior runners this year and in many years, and the other thing that really stands out about Byron Murphy is whether he is the first. down or on third down, he has a chance to penetrate and cause real problems for overmatched interior linemen. If you're not an athletic interior lineman, you're going to have major problems with Byron Murphy coming in and out, and when you have that guy. of a penetrator who is also strong at the point of attack and now creates offensive lines, he has to slide protections to help you, he has to take into account certain run plays, certain run plays will be ruled out, especially when you have guys like Leonard Williams and Jiren Reed , who can stack you and get rid of you, so this is, I like the pick because Mike Max says, hey, we're GNA, we play some defense, we finally have someone trying to play some defense in pro football, finally trying To come to that, uh, you were too. calling for more trades, we have another one: the Minnesota Vikings have orchestrated a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars moving up six spots from 23rd to 17th again, they moved the 23rd pick they had acquired from the Texans which we initially thought of packaging as a move up for a The quarterback ends up taking his QB at No. 10 in a trade with the Jets, so it's qua do fensa who's maneuvering up and down the draft board, but what's this for now?
I think you know they obviously lost Danal Hunter to the The Houston Texans are in the year of free agency, so you think maybe you're wondering if they're seeing edge rushers fall, one that's available there and you're like, hey , maybe it's maybe the Rams are going to take one at 18, no, this has to be a rush, yeah. Yes, it's also this verse from Jared or Dallas Turner. Dallas Turner will be my guess, they need a cornerback too, but how do you let Dallas Turner come off the board here? Yeah, we had him pegged to their maybe eighth overall pick now available here at 17. that where the Vikings go, the Jacksonville Jaguars have traded the No. 17 pick to the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 17 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. , the Minnesota Vikings select Dallas linebacker Turner, Alabama, so there is a bit of a drop for Dallas Turner when he leaves the draft room simply based onmock drafts based on Buzz from the draft community uh and clearly the Minnesota Vikings had value attached to Dallas Turner's name because they traded six spots after seeing that he was still available after the Seattle Seahawks made their pick, so Turner is a 6'2 and switch player, but a massive 83 wingspan, so he has the length to keep offensive lineman's hands off his chest.
He uses those arms to his advantage, which we'll show you here shortly, but it was a double-digit sack. artist here teaming up with a guy who's probably coming off the board tomorrow and Chris Brazwell for the Alabama Crimson Tide definitely wreaked havoc in the SEC this year, so Lance, you thought this might be the pick and it ends too. being the seventh player on your board so there's a good value here plus 10 in value if you look at it that way, for the Vikings it really is and what you have is this uncommon length that you talked about and the reason why which is important. it's because the first one in is usually the winner and if you can get in first with your hands and when you have a seven foot wingspan, you will be first on a lot of occasions against those tackles that he has on the loose bottom. body that allows him to get up and turn the corner, that crazy burst down the field gives him the ability to really make tackles off the back foot every time he runs, but the other thing he does is play the run now and if you're going to play for Nick Sabin and in Alabama you can't not play The Run, that's a necessity, you have to be tough enough now, he's not Will Anderson playing the run, but he's a guy willing to take on the run and he has the ability to get the range . side, you know the sideline and cut off those outside running plays and when it comes to rushing a passer, the ability to catch with his you know the ability to get up off the ball and immediately make reverse tackles that set up internal movement sets.
The stab move counters indicate that these are moves that he's going to develop more and as we mentioned, he's Tracy, he's the running back of all running backs when it comes to his athletic profile, the athletic profile of a wide receiver, frankly, Yes, and look when I think. about this defense Bucky in an offensive-minded defense with Brian Flores, you unleash a 44-speed guy with an 83-inch wingspan who fits, fits perfectly, has a look, is a freak athlete who has excellent quickness in the first Step, it can bend and pop, it's versatile enough to be. Able to play with strength or finesse from the edge, non-stop motor, plays in a very complicated defense, so he can play in a high leverage scheme, this is a really very good player and for Brian Flores, what they do in the back with that. that myriad zero

coverage

where they're always challenging and testing the quarterback's IQ, now you're going to create some free runs for a guy who is a dominant playmaker and pass rusher off the edge, let's look at the details here, so obviously , you get the swamp of picks 17-23 with the Vikings and Jags, the Jags then acquire a fifth-round pick and a 2025 three-four from the Vikings to accommodate their move six spots up to land edge rusher Dallas Turner , who they will match. with Jonathan Grenard, who was taken out of free agency by the Houston Texans, that exchange is interesting.
Hunter goes to Houston. Grenard goes to Minnesota and then they also went out and got Andrew Van Gingle in free agency. Now you add another rotational piece. there with Dallas Turner and then we have two we have three oh guys we have to run on defense here we go three in a row it's time now you don't have you done if you're the Vikings I do, I'm sitting here looking at my two Myck drills, my second drill and third round coming out tomorrow on nfl.com and I'm looking at Vikings stuff and like, oh well, I guess we're done, yeah, this is what you have, but I think it's a masterful job by the Minnesota front office, be patient, covet players and find a way to get the two guys you really wanted.
Great job by Minnesota, yeah, so the Minnesota Vikings don't have two or three, we just traded 157, so the next time we look at the Minnesota Vikings as they currently stand it will be at pick number 108 in the fourth round. 108 129 is where they are at this point so alright lots of moves we had our second trade of the night and Both have involved the Vikings we'll hear from the Cincinnati Bengals as they currently sit at the 18th pick when let's take them back live to Detroit at the 2024 NFL draft. Well, folks, we've had a defensive run as we welcome you. return to the draft Center presented by FedEx the last three picks come from the defensive side of the ball after the first 14 we are all offensive players Le outu latu Bron Murphy and Dallas Turner the last picks in this 2024 NFL draft the Cincinnati Bengals They are now on the clock at pick number eight, so there's just over 6 minutes left for the Bengals, who are an interesting spot here.
I feel like they've been improving their safety line since they got Joe Burrow and I'd be surprised. If they make that move again here, there are two picks. I'd be surprised if he wasn't one of the two picks now, unless they want to move on from Trey Hendrickson, who demanded a trade, but they typically don't trade players when they demand something. Really look at it, the two guys that make the most sense and have actually done it since we started doing mock drafts were the wide receiver to replace T Higgins in the future, Brian Thomas, or you look at Fanu, the left tackle that can take over from the tackle position. right tackle left tackle guard wherever you want, big need there in Cincinnati again other options could be Tyler gon from Oklahoma amarius Ms from Georgia or maybe Graham Barton from Duke here's Roger Goodell with the 18th pick with the 18th pick in the NFL 2024 draft Cincinnati Bengals select Amarius Mims tackles Georgia, okay Bucky, big mountain of a man that hit us, look, that's what you said there, you said it right there, big mountain of a man, not now He has a lot of experience, but he has a lot of talent in a very small sample size, this guy can dominate at the point of attack from deep, he has that whole mentality and style of play, and you understand that in Cincinnati you put him at right tackle, this guy is going to have a lot. of success, I know you have oando brown playing left tackle, but on the right side, where you want to run the ball a little bit, this guy will be a people movement type, kind of like what the Cincinnati Bengals are doing trying to reestablish a Little physicality and toughness at the point of attack, so he's a very good athlete we also saw him at the combine, it was like, and with Marius Mims what you get is a player whose only real concern is injury.
He's had some injury issues and staying healthy has been a concern and you know that's got to be a little worrying for Cincinnati, but when it comes to size he's tough to get around, he's got great length, he's very, very powerful and he's got upside. he's extraordinarily tall, it's the injuries that worry you a little, okay, let's paint a better picture of what Amarius Mims is. Here's a player comparison brought to you by Pizza Hut ler line, who reminds you of Marus Mims, yes, Jordan myada when you and remember? He's a guy who came as a rugby player and quickly developed into a really impressive left tackle.
He was a special athlete with special size and traits and that's the same thing we're seeing now from Amarius Mims. Now Milata didn't have any real experience and moved to one of the most difficult positions to play in professional football the left tackle spot, but he saw there, he can go out into space getting soaked. I am Marius Mims. He has great length and strength. So does Marius Mims, so there's a lot to like about that comparison between the two. two, I think the difference is you know Mims comes with a pedigree with Stacy Sur, the offensive line coach and those Georgia Bulldogs, and well, he also has the experience to win, you can never, you don't want to underestimate the guys that come from of winning environments.
I also understand this, in practice he has the opportunity to sit behind Trent Brown. Trent Brown is a huge Edge blocker from New England that he acquired in free agency and has been there for a long time. He has the opportunity to sit back and observe and then eventually work his way up. on the field so they have insurance for the long-term future by making Ms maybe sit out a year before jumping into the starting lineup and football's biggest offensive tackle trio Orlando Brown Trent Brown now amarius Ms. Te guarantee amarus Ms at tight end in some of those head a super tight end super tackle a guy a guy who was drafted 18th overall only eight starts in his college career for Marius Mims something interesting uh the folks at the Los Angeles Rams are On the clock, which one is first? round, someone wants to get that grade at Draft House in Hermosa, they haven't made a first round pick since they took Jared No. 1 overall in 2016, but the No. 19 pick currently belongs to the LA Rams and they have little else .
Two minutes to officially make that pick The Super Bowl champions just a couple of years ago returned to the postseason this year with renewed enthusiasm there with Shawn McVey and Lesne Okay we saw a little handshake there with Chris Schula, the new defensive coordinator . for the LA Rams replacing Raheem Morris how they're dressed it's like they forgot they had a first round pick like we're not used to picking in the first round they're on the beach we're not used to picking in the first round they picked Jims the third day. I tell you, how's work? Yeah, how about the work you guys did last year?
Boy, awesome job, puka and um, defensive tackle Turner. Kobe turneron, young could also have young offensive defensive players of the year, not for no. for the Texans picks and I think those guys had discussions anyway, if you really want to know the truth, such amazing work by lesne. I know he's famous for not caring that much about the national teams in the past, it's just that the phrase they used, uh, he said, "He doesn't care much about these national teams, yeah, that's what it was, that's what the shirt said." , but when you look at it now, he cares a little more about the picks now because he has a lot of them to play with so I'm very interested to see what he does here.
The Los Angeles Rams have four at the top of the top 100. , including two third round picks, which of course we'll see tomorrow right here with you at the draft Center presented by FedEx, but here at 19 uh Jared ver still available Jared versus Jared ver how are they doing at quarterback? they could have made some, they've made some strides, you know, with players that are out of Limelight Spotlight, brother Darius Williams came back, right? Trey White Tre Davis White comes uh they usually like to go to the line of scrimmage. I'd like to think they're going to try to find someone who can get after the passer, but it appears to be the case. one of those guys, the best player available on your board, Lance, the best Edge running back on your board, Bucky, otherwise, as far as defensive tackle, you're looking at Johnny Jon, Jon, Johnny Newton, just Illinois, try to find a direct replacement for Aaron Don, you can't replace him. but if you're watching, yeah, I think it's too early because we haven't seen a cornerback yet.
Lesne is worth talking out loud here in terms of cornerback, he might when you look at who he has. I could see that he could. I definitely see cornerback when you really look closely at this uh quinan Mitchell could be the guy here, the other position you have to look at is if they would be willing to go with wide receiver. I mean, PUK is on a no-go rookie deal. to cost you a lot, would you be willing to look at Brian Thomas? I think I'd be more surprised if they seem like they can get along, they're pretty good with that gear at receiver, um, and they really like it.
Demarcus Robinson also came back with him, they came to a really reasonable deal, so okay, the LA Rams made their first pick in eight years in the first round here, it's Roger Goodell with the 19th pick in the NFL draft 2024, Los Angeles. Rams draft Jared versus Florida State defensive end, that makes a lot of sense, the value here Bucky is huge, yes the value made a lot of sense, but more importantly the player makes sense, you see it in the Tombstone bully , this guy is a bully. the edge, the explosive quickness of the first step, he is a powerful player when I like it, he doesn't make the play a comparison to Khalil ma, but he uses khil ma's style of play to be able to do it.
You see him put his hand right in the middle of the blocker's chest and he's going to use a two-way pass to be able to get to the quarterback who is super explosive, super d, productive at every level, first in Albany and then for two years in FloridaState, this guy had 18 sacks and a ton of tackles. to lose, he is a productive player who will fit perfectly in this Ram scheme when you saw him coming from Albany, his first game was against LSU, not last year, but the year before, and it didn't look too big for him.
In the first game he really shined right away and then he just kept getting better and better. Jared vers is a grown man. He reminds me of Lamar Woodley when Woodley came out of the Pittsburgh Steel playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is much more physical than his size. I think he is. Ultimately he'll play around 260 pounds, but he has Elite explosiveness on first contact and not only speed to push the running back, but it's also at the point of attack where he plays much bigger and longer than you think. what are you going to do.
He's got short arms, he doesn't have long arms, but he's so quick off the tackle that he gets into the tackle first almost every time at the point of attack, he's got that sweet arm that he just showed off that can beat you on a drive. From a running back standpoint or a run defender, he showed what kind of athlete he was at the combine, but I think more than anything he's tough like he's a bad boy, now he's going to come after you every play and I like the toughness and the advantage that gives the Rams, you know, you lost Daron Donald, where is that advantage coming from now?
I think Jared verse is next as far as the Edge brothers go, Jared verse, Byron, young Kobe Turner, a new team that I like. after the quarterback there for new defensive coordinator Chris Schula, head coach Sea McVey in Los Angeles Ram returns with the 20th pick when we return, the Pittsburgh Steelers last year took Bri Jones number 14 overall The Tackle from Georgia, ¿ Do they double the tackle position here? at No. 20, no doubt a question Steelers fans attending Detroit are pondering, as the pick is set for Pittsburgh's new quarterback room entirely Russell Wilson, Justin presents, can he pick him and use that new quarterback room to influence a pick here?
Bucky Brooks and you look, Brri Jones moved to the right side last year, they especially started playing well in the second half, are they trying to find a left tackle to potentially replace Dan Moore? It's a question here, I mean, look, I think you certainly can. Take a look at the position when we think about the tackles that are available, maybe a Bucky tackle that has guard potential as the left side needs to improve, yeah I think Fatano certainly could be in play and maybe I think the other one. one is Corner um, the other position they've been looking to do some homework from what I understand to be a cornerback position, which would make some sense.
Dante Jackson Joey Porter Dante Jacks Jackson just got Darius Rush a penny, I mean, now look, look, we. Speaking of the best player available, everyone was as high on Quinan Mitchell as they were before this, so now you're thinking about another long corner to go opposite Joy Porter Jr. Maybe they can play some man-to-man coverage again and take out some . of those easy shots that went outside it's rare for a team to do well that J Joy Porter wasn't a first rounder we thought was going to be a first rounder but it's rare for them to go in so far back, but maybe to go back years ago to get that sneeze real quick before this pick, you know what I mean, I wonder if that means you were right with that pick, I wonder if that's why maybe I felt like maybe you.
You're allergic maybe to his corner, yes, but the value of the offensive lineman here and especially with Fanu. I think when you look at what's going on with Gr Bon, you look at the next 60 picks, I mean replacing Nate iRig, yeah, that would do a lot. of sensible positions, yes, for me, it's left tackle, it's center or it's a cornerback, Banu Fanu, although I could give you all that right, he has a but Grant Bon is also tremendously talented, but I guess it's Fanu or Quenan Mitchell here are those who do that. makes the most sense for the Steelers look at who will join commissioner Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Dam Hayward tonight 32 young men will embark on their NFL careers striving to make an impact on the field, but their impacts will be felt much more beyond his field, but in his communities no one embodied that more than Walter Pton and today the League's highest honor, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide, recognized his lasting legacy tonight, we are proud to welcome the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year winner.
Hayward, first of all, I want to thank you, Commissioner, and most importantly, I want to thank the Pton family, the NFL and Nationwide. The NFL draft is special for my fellow NFL players and the prospects joining the League this week. I want to challenge them. you use your platform to brighten someone's day, the opportunity you have before you is a gift and by coming here and being in this league take advantage of that moment be better in our communities be better for our league and our world thank you very much here we go and with 20th pick in 2024 NFL draft, Pittsburgh Steelers select Washington tackle Troy Fanu, there it is, the wait is over for Washington's Troy Fanu, the anchor of Joe Moore's award-winning offensive line to the top line in college. football last year, he's very physical and I'm a member of the Joe Moore Awards selection committee and when we saw him every time 55 kept coming up, he's got the body type of a classic, um, uh, tough. guard type that can move around a little bit, but when you look at the tackle at the 34, I think he can end up staying out at tackle, whether it's left tackle, right tackle or guard.
I think the Steelers will give him a chance to win the left. turn well, actually I think they are going to move him to right tackle, bring briri to the left side, is my guess, and if that happens, if that happens, I think they will have a simple fighter in the next few years, he is a very physical. run blocker, but what he gives you is that old school Steeler toughness that's been missing for a while on the offensive line, where they could just go downhill with you. Hit the rock and voila, this is your first chance to get back to old school Steeler football. say in a long, long time, but I think with the two bookend tackles that you just drafted in a row, I think you give yourself a real chance, you give yourself a real chance and remember Arthur Smith takes over this offense.
Arthur Smith is committed to running in football. You think about the personnel they have in the backfield, Naj Harris. They want to be able to impose his will and even with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields coming. It's still about the quarterback being a complement to what is a physical running game that complements a defense that sets the tone with turnovers and short fields. Yeah, in that Texas game, by the way, you could see that this is tandre sweat and Byron Murphy were Talking about Texas, Fanu was really chasing those guys with blocks that moved people at the goal line, so it's a guy that I think Steeler fans are going to really like and, at worst, will be their starting left guard. over the next few years as well, so I like that those two players need to have flexibility at two positions.
I think he probably has flexibility at three positions. tackle right tackle and left guard versatility matters physicality toughness fits the brand that gives them what they are trying to recreate what is that imposing physical presence at the point of attack and this was not a standard for the Steelers in terms of production of past offensive line protection over the course of the last two years, the same is probably true in terms of run blocking as well. get a little bit of both here as they continue to improve, uh, with general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin now working with new quarterbacks and a new offensive lineman in Troy Falanu, where do the Dolphins go at 21 years ahead here in draft C?
We're in the 20s here at the Tra Center presented by FedEx. Our first pick of the 20 was just made by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Miami Dolphins pick is there. You can see general manager Chris Greer with all the hugs and handshakes and Mike McDaniel, the head coach there. in that draft room in South Florida, ready to announce the new Miami Dolphin in many wayscertainly from the beginning you could see the Dolphins go Center Graham Bon Graham Bon jpj jpj Jackson power yes, the edge rusher was chosen after that Jared ver went to the Rams right at 19 Johnny Newton defensive tackle to replace Christian Wilkins in a sense, different players, yeah Yeah, I think the best moves here are Grah Barton, who is the center guard, who will be the lineman safest offense in the draft.
Grant Barton is fantastic. I mean, Grah Barton is a can't-lose player for me and he happens to be that. a position of need for them, the interior offensive line, so that makes a lot of sense, but what if they got greedy and said, oh Brian Thomas and Xavier, more worthy? Let's take our team, which is already the fastest ever put together, and get into an arms race with the City Chiefs and all the other offensive teams, because this is a quarterback-heavy conference in the AFC, They just got rid of xaven. Howard Corners is still there, his chosen corner.
I mean, I know they got Kendall Fuller from Washington, they still have Jaylen Ramsey, obviously, but I mean. I think we were all waiting for at least one of those corners. Is there any possibility? Surprises with Chop Robinson. I don't believe it. They had some injuries on the outside. They had some injuries and Jaylen Phillips and Bradley, both CH Bromson. it's clean as far as here's the pick with the 21st pick in the 2024 nfl draft, miami dolphins select linebacker robinson, penn state, they got him, bucky, you made it, yeah, someone was there talking , but no, the Miami Dolphins need to do it.
He has an established pass because injuries wiped him out last year. Robinson is a developing prospect even though we're talking about a first-round talent, but this guy is explosive, he's dynamic, he's an A+ athlete, but now he needs to build him up and convert him. potential in production, but you see it when you touch it, it is noticeable, it appears on the screen. First step, quickness, burst, finishing skills, he's got it, I just need to see his consistency, yeah, he's got that Von Miller curve in the ankles and knees where he can get low, low, low, not a problem at all for him, huh, but he's just not a skilled runner right now.
I mean, he's an elite athlete. Micah Parson level athlete, the problem is you know Micah came from the linebacker they put in. He had finally had some experience in Miami and there you see, I mean defensive end and Chop is excited, let me tell you what Robinson has, he has athletic gifts that you just can't coach, the problem is that he doesn't have them right now . knowing how to rush the passer, I say that with all due respect, but that may come with more work, but Bucky, this is very much a trait position and a skill that fills a need due to injuries that have substantial injuries to the chub and in Jaylen Phillips, where both guys will try to come back this year, but it may not happen for them right away, it may not happen for them right away and even if they come back in today's game, you should have three running backs.
You have to have three players that you can have in rotation, so you put him in rotation as a first-year player, maybe he's just a situational running back, he comes in at nickel and then you hope he can work his way up to being a full-time starter, but his The best football is ahead, he has the traits, now you have to take that talent and see if you can somehow turn it into consistent production from the edge. You know, I've seen it up close in person over the last few years watching Penn. State and I mean he could also be an Ender a game with the way he can provide that constant pressure.
I mean, you saw that Michigan game, he was all over the field early in that game and against a pretty good D now. Look, they had to account for some injuries on the offensive line, but you know he's played against some good competition there. Say the sack production, like you said, is not minimal right now in terms of a first-round type of player, but you hope he finds the team right, finds that finish, that polish, he also didn't play as much as if he did. They substitute in and out Isaac Den I Dennis Sutton, everyone there rolled those guys so he's still learning how to play football, it's just that you don't find him on a football field?
I mean all these running backs and we've talked glowingly about these running backs and rightfully so they're all very, very good at different things that they do, but Chop Robinson has speed, curve and Explosiveness that you're not going to find. Jared Verse has explosiveness, but he doesn't have that kind of bend around the corner and that's something that ifyou have a 6's tackle and a very low cut on the corners attacks you like a race. embankment car, I mean good luck trying to get your hands, that's actually a good analogy too with how you can actually B 448 40 yard dash 154 and the 10 I know we talked about to move the clubs pretty a little bit like a really important piece of the vertical evaluation was 34 A2 um and then the width was tall, but you know what an interesting comparison, although athletically or in size, when you look at Dallas Turner, they were very similar athletically in terms of their testing . true, both four players have about the same height 62 and 78 for Chop AR, Chop's wing is 76 and a quarter while for Dallas Turner he was 83, that's seven in almost a full hand, very significant when we talk about skills because now Dallas Turner, because of that length, has more options when it comes to being able to attack the offensive line.
He can put his hand right on his chest and use that long arm to direct and dictate how he wants to go while with Chop. Robinson, he has to win right now with the initial explosion, that's why he doesn't have the hand-to-hand combat skills that maybe some of the other guys have. Yeah, I think there are three Boomer Bus players in this draft and it's them. Re Drake May for me and a lot of times he will be a quarterback. He will also be Chop Robinson and then Latu based mainly just by the medicals, but with Chop Robinson there is still a lot of football to learn for Chop, but. um I'm excited for the opportunity for him there and to sit for a while.
I was worried that they were going to draft one of these Speedy wide receivers and no one was going to know what to do with the quarterback, like who matches who Bucky, that's like a basketball game where you don't want to hit on anybody, you don't want to, You don't want to go, I don't want to catch Tyreek, I don't want to catch Jayen, W, I don't. I don't want to draft Xavier Thomas, but now that we have those two wide receivers, you see the Eagles are next, they just signed their two wide receivers to trade, so there's no way they're drafting the wide receiver in this one. place, six offensive tackles. it's been six offensive linemen, four Edge running backs, it's been six defensive players, five defensive players total, um and all the cornerbacks are now available for the Philadelphia Eagles at 22, yeah, and that's a huge need, yeah, their Two big needs are tackle and cornerback and me.
I'd be surprised if they don't corner themselves here, they have their T for Corners? I'd have to think it's Quinan or Teran Arnold, yeah, yeah, it'd have to be that if you think about what Vic Vanio normally likes to do. he's a little more mantle man on the outside, so maybe that'll deny Quinan Mitchell over Terion Arnold, yeah, I mean, look, if you're looking for the important traits, that's Quinan Mitchell, he ran the 4340, you know, I think that there were some eyebrows. being raised when Teran Arnold ran the 4 five, you say, oh he'll run better at the pro day, it's pretty much the same at the pro day, but he plays f on tape, right?
I mean, that's something like that. What you've seen with Lance, well, yeah, I mean, how often does he get beat on the field? That's what you have to ask yourself is how many plays he makes in football. One of the biggest mistakes I think people make is how fast. the guy has recovery speed, your DBs talk about recovery speed, yeah well I don't want you to know if he's okay, recovery speed is one thing but how is he playing football well and he had a lot of work playing against Koid Mckinstry? After the phenomenal year that Kool-Aid had in 2022, so you take all that into account as well and he performed very well with that extra work and the goals that were presented to him compared to what Kool-Aid McKenry achieved for Alabama, so it's The Philadelphia Eagles picked 22nd after giving AJ Brown about $90-something million with $84 million guaranteed highest-paid receiver in average annual value.
Now they improve the defense. The NFL has gone global this past year we've played. In front of incredible crowds in London and Germany, this upcoming season we will play our first game in South America in Sal Paulo, Brazil, and will soon reach more markets globally. The NFL International Player Pathway Program helps foreign-born players reach the elite international NFL athletes have the opportunity to compete at the NFL level and potentially earn a spot on our NFL roster. . One of the most successful players in the program is the Philadelphia Eagles. Jordan Milada Jordan is currently in his native Australia for the opening of a new NFL Academy for high school football players to draft for the Eagles.
Let's join Jordan live from the Eagles draft party in Burley Beach Gold Coast Australia take it Jordan come on this is great thanks Uncle Roger good night to those of you from the beautiful land with the 22nd pick in the 2012 NFL draft4 Philadelphia Eagles select Quon defensive back Mitchell Toledo , good baby, okay, thanks friend Jordan, my L for I think that selection came from the future, isn't it like tomorrow in Australia? It was yesterday? I don't remember how that works, but Quinan Mitchell comes out of the Green Room there in Detroit as the first cornerback off the board, which we expected, looks like he's almost done with all this bombing and circumstances, hey, he got in. it's a good spot though yeah man it hurts now but it'll end when those playoffs start coming around that's right that's right and this is a team that needs Corner's help in a bad way after they tried to back down with James Bad Brad Bradberry there. es and Darius Sleigh and now I'm going to have a chance to be the next guy to help find some really talented receivers in the NFC East that we give a smile to, come on, whoa what about your business, maybe hey, but Bucky, as? about, there's no doubt, this has been one of the biggest rises in the draft community in terms of rumors in terms of man, this guy has burst onto the scene.
A good tape at the Toledo Senior Bowl really helped him and then he broke out at the combine, so this is really interesting with Mitchell it's just the way he checked all the boxes along the journey. This is a guy who was fantastic during the regular season when you watch the tape, you see him in a senior arc in competitive knockouts dominating at the combine and then when you think about the fit going to Philly, this fits perfectly in the style of defense that Vic Fangio wants to play, he's a man-to-man cornerback who can play, but can. plays with Bump, but he can also play, gives them that versatility that they want from a technical perspective to be able to have the defense that they want to have to cover some of those NFC East rivals, yeah, and you know this also happens when you have six quarterbacks, yeah, players get pushed down the board, you know, and good quarterbacks get pushed down the board and you saw their competitive nature in the Senior Bowl.
It was a lot of fun to see him react to the players he passed on from Toledo. He wanted to show everyone that he belonged, but he has the athletic profile. I think from a coverage standpoint he can play man or zone. Honestly, I think if needed, it could match as a larger slot if you want to cast Radun. him, for example, from the slot, Mitchell can slide with them no problem, uh, because he has those kind of hips, so I think Quinon Mitchell is a very good pick for the Eagles, very, very lucky that he falls into that spot and that doesn't This won't happen unless all those quarterbacks get the big push that helped knock down the running backs and cornerbacks in this draft.
Yeah, I think it's a really interesting spot here because you know, I think we were all expecting at least one corner to be off the board at this point. maybe two, one run to come, one run to come, but this is the range we thought they were going to go. I don't know if we thought that was a top 10 that we thought in the 20s and that's probably one reason for the calculation. behind the trade with the Jaguars going from 17 to 23 thinking they're going to have one of their two best cornerbacks there, so when you make a move like that to go down to 23 you have to look at your draft board and let's say okay, it's about a handful of players we like and no matter what happens, we can take it and even though we're talking about Corner, we might not rule out the possibility of a wide receiver coming off the board in Brian Thomas. at number 23 of the Jacksonville Jaguars he works during the season no, but I have nothing in I don't have a little I wish I had a little birdie to say No, hey, this I do know for sure put a bow to qu Mitchell is the longest that it has taken a defensive back to get off the board since 1995 when Tyrone p and Ty Law wow got 22 and 23 consecutively, so it's also interesting when you do your math on the trade. like we all put Teran Arnold here with the Jaguars in a billion straight dresses right he's an e 17 Teran Arnold at 17 well if you're going to trade you say 18 ain't taking the corner Cincinnati 19 the Rams They probably did.
Taking the corner 20, the Steelers could, but when you look at the board and who was available there, you go to the 21 and you have to keep going down, but when you look at them, when you look at Jacksonville and what they need, of course, wide. Receiver is still in Need for uh for Trevor Lawrence but cornerback is too much yeah big guys um they're something we know Trent Balky is a fan of right uh it kind of goes that way early and often in drafts, and like me. getting left out of something here, I'm team here, well we're not supposed to tip so let's take a look at what's going on, oh Noony, what's up man?
Yesterday he got Tile Drive, they jumped off him and slammed him into a table at AW Tony KH. yeah, looking to sell it with the no fake, it's not fake, let's get that microphone, it's a microphone, what's going on here? Do you think it's real? Needs? Is selling? Is that a sale or do you need it? It's always world class. artists right there that what wrestling is not fake, it's a lot, I mean, hey, when you jump from things to a table, if it's real in Buffalo with Bill's Vans, it's real, put fire to it like they do in Bill's Mafia and then, look let's see how many guys we have jumping on the tables okay I love it uh okay let's see who comes off the top ropes to join the Jacksonville Jaguars as we bring you back live to the Draft Hall in Detroit with the 23 .2024 NFL draft pick, Jacksonville Jaguar pick, Brian Thomas Jr, wide receiver, LSU, all good, the birdies have been chirping in Bucky's ear, that was no birdies, but the Jackson M Jag got lost.
Kevin actually, they lost a playmaker, so they were determined to get someone on the outside who has a great physical speed and can give him that vertical element. This guy is a natural. When you talk to the coaches at LSU, they just talk about how talented he is and look, the tape doesn't lie to this guy. makes plays puts 17 balls in the paint leads FBS when it comes to touchdowns so now Trevor Lawrence has Christian Kirk has Gabe Davis another big play threat Brian Thomas comes in that Evan Ingram now they can push the ball down the field vertically they have To keep it those defenses stopped squatting in coverage like they were last year, so very calm, calm, they left the Green Room like now all the receivers have left the Green Room in Detroit, four were there to start the night he went off the chart with Marvin.
Harrison Jr to the Cardinals, Giants neighbor Malik, Romad Dun to the Bears and now Brian Thomas Jr to the Jacksonville Jaguars after they traded back in a move that saw the Minnesota Vikings move back six spots and still manage to make their man Brian Thomas Jr will help us through. There, Lerine Brian Thomas Jr has tremendous speed, so when you look at LSU's offense, he was able to work deep middle, he was able to work on the wings and wherever he worked he spread out and he has natural, easy, smooth speed, so what is has that potential for separation.
I think something that really stood out about Brian Thomas, even ahead of Malik's neighbors, was his ability to win jump balls in the end zone. I think that's an area where Malik can improve a little bit in the end zone, but with the catch radius and his ability to win the ball deep with his tracking and his Rise Above the Rim. I think that's something that will really be an element that Trevor Lawrence loves. Check out this pick from Brian Tom last year before the season started. the talk was about the man Trevor Lawrence, what about that comeback against the Chargers?
Awesome and then once the season started it's all CJ strad and now the Texans are the new dog on the Block and with Trevor Lawrence if you want to get it. The best thing about Trevor Lawrence is that we're all waiting to see this generational guy. His talent gives him some wide receivers like Brian Thomas and let's see what can happen. We have Gabe Davis, who is a straight, upright guy, and now you have Brian. Thomas, whocan work on a variety of routes. I really like that you're now giving your quarterback the best opportunity I think he's had since he's been in Jacksonville to be an explosive passer by adding a player like Brian Thomas that he's going to go up and fight for.
You also see that you see that Old Miss Trio play from LED FBS in touchdown receptions this year, so he definitely knows how to put the ball in the paint there, Bucky Brooks and, like the Jaguars, what he'll probably do in a matter of days . pick up Trevor Lawrence's fifth year option, oh I'm not presenting the option, they'll probably give him a big bag and now you want to see the fruits of that labor as you continue to add weapons around him. The Dallas Cowboys are well into it. That's a long 10 minutes, only 3 minutes left to make your pick and we'll have him for you at number 24 overall when we get back here in the draft.
No Terán, there is no one left to rush. Come back here with you in the draft. Center presented by FedEx, we're ready for trade number three now of the first round and it doesn't involve the Minnesota Vikings, like the previous two did. It's the home team, Motor City, that you're on the clock with, and in fact, your choice is with the Detroit Lions. the Dallas Cowboys will acquire the 24th pick, in fact right now the Green Bay Packers are on the clock at 25, so the pick goes to the Lions, who could be making a move here?
Were you expecting a guy like Teron Arnold? To stay on the board, I think the corner quarterback has to be on the board, whether it's Teran Arnold or Nate Wigness, watch your elbows when making this pick. Brad Hol Ms. He's an excited man when he makes these selections. Dan Campbell caught. an elbow lost when they took, when they took Jack Campbell last year. I don't remember if he was, maybe it was his first choice with Jamir Gibbs, but I bet he did, yeah, he almost got down on one knee after being next to Brad Holmes. I bet I bet you're right, I bet it's Teran Arnold because they have Meek Robertson right now at a quarterback spot Kendall, uh, Kendall Vilder, you have Emanel OB, he struggled, they released him, yeah, I want say, this is this.
It just makes sense and they have been investigating changes. I talked to some teams that said the Lions really wanted to move up, but you know they wanted to move up even higher and I think it was because they hustle but they couldn't get that high, they do go up and now when you look at why they went up, the only position they I can think of right now is what would they be looking for I mean unless they're really worried about Frank Ragnow um or the age of Kevin Zer who they just added yeah they could go with Grah Barton here but they really need a cornerback.
It would be hard not to see your choice of Kool-Aid mckenstry Cooper deja or Cooper de jeene or um ter Arnold oh Teran Arnold yeah, but I wonder if I thought you said tyon um in your mind how is how big is the gap Bucky between tyon Arnold and a player like KOA Mckinstry? I mean, I think they're all similar, I think. all those guys are narrowly rated, I think they're full, I think that's why we see the corners coming in late, not early, because everyone probably saw them, yeah, more similar than different as far as scale goes of ratings, uh, I think they can choose, the thing is that they need someone who can come in and play man to man so they can be more comfortable, they want to play with more man coverage.
Nate Wiggins certainly can do it, he has the speed, but how does he have the physicality and the toughness to play the mark, the ball, who is the defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn Aaron Glenn, how did Aaron Glenn play his football? I mean, he was fast, he ran a little bit, but he was, but he was also on top of you, he didn't. he didn't Aaron Aaron Glenn likes physical corners likes guys that are going to be in your face Teran arold so Arnold feels like it's not going to be Nate Wiggins I don't think if they go it'll be a third rounder this year going to the Cowboys uh for the Lions' right to move up these five spots.
The Lions get a 25 in the seventh round to complete the deal. 27th in pass defense a year ago. I'm going to throw another name at you, but I mean. Based on how the cornerback looks, I can't see them moving on from the quarterback spot, but one player who has been mentioned with them in mock drafts and the guy who makes sense is Missouri's Darius Robinson, who plays end defense, defensive tackle, he's a hometown boy, played defensive tackle his junior year, got kicked out to play defensive end, lost some weight, can play with any of them. Honestly, though when you have these quarterbacks, it would be hard to pass up the level of talent there.
At quarterback, I mean, our friend Daniel Jeremiah is Terry and Arnold is his eighth overall player. This would be a tremendous value if you look at that table for the Lions in 24 uh and now the home that the home crowd is going to get. chance to see the Lions make their first round pick, let's bring it to Detroit as anticipation builds in the Motor City, the Detroit Lions excel at engaging with the local soccer community and increasing participation in soccer at the youth level and high school, joining me on stage. Female flag football players representing the first four schools to compete in the Michigan Women's High School Football League with Michigan flags and local high school football tackle students.
These young men and women embody the NFL's values of respect, integrity, resilience and responsibility toward their teams. Congratulations on your achievements. in their academic and football careers now to make the selection, welcome Ellie Fagley, the Dallas Cowboys have traded the 24th pick to the Detroit Lions with the 24th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Detroit pick Lion, Tyon Arnold, the defensive back from Alabama, and Teron Arnold's first responsibility will be the number nine of King High School, who had great height with that team that announced the selection of the Detroit Lions, but it is Tyon Arnold , the weight may be a little longer than expected for a player many believe. the number one cornerback in this year's class despite a 40 time, a little taller than you would normally see in a quarterback of that Elite stature, he has all the charisma, all the personality, all the toughness in the battle, the proven experience, Bucky Brooks and the pedigree to come. from a Nick Sabin defense, you know he loves and demands a lot from his DBS and Tyon Arnold brings all of that in one big energy package now to the Detroit Lions when he puts in that pick and wow, what a special feeling to be picked by the host team of the draft prepares to take the stage to a huge roar from the Lions fans in attendance, let's hear it's a great moment there Buck for Teran Arnold as he now has his destiny in the NFL oh, he has his moment, this is a perfect fit for the Detroit Lines, this guy is super clean as a playmaker.
I'll tell you when you talk about Aaron Glenn and what they want on the perimeter, he checks all the boxes, tough physicality, excellent technician, high football IQ. and the personality that can bounce inside and out loves football loves to compete when we had the opportunity to talk to him a couple of weeks ago he just talked about really being in tune with Nick, saving and doing all the little things to be a great player. This is the guy who's going to come in. I hope he plays right away and don't forget when they took his teammate last year, uh, in the second round, who, who, Little Nickel Corner, they took last year, oh, Brian Branch, Brian Branch, b b b, BR, so you.
I started thinking about it, like high IQ will raise Annie when it comes to IQ and secondary, he's someone who improves what they already do on defense, loves the ball and Aaron Glenn will be very excited to have a guy who loves the ball like he does and that was something we really got a chance to experience at the combine, you know, when we got a chance to listen to him and what he had to say about his family and his energy, his enthusiasm. He's going to be someone who's going to be great in the locker room.
I think he will be a player that will allow you to play in a slot or play outside. You have to cover it in certain situations because I don't think you want to put it on. He's there against speed burners, that could be a little bit of a problem, but he has the ability to track the ball down the field, which he'll show here and that's why he's a playmaker down the field. what separates him from kool-aid mckinstry for me is that mckinstry is the better athlete and is a little softer with his mirror and his footwork, but the guy who makes the most plays is Tyon Arnold, when the ball goes up, the treats it as if it were an open. receiver and he goes for a wide receiver uh I remember years ago you heard Ike uh ik Taylor when he was here and I asked him.
I told him what it was like for you to be a cornerback, what are you looking for? He said when the ball goes up, I want to see cornerbacks that chase the ball like they're the wide receiver and that's what Teran Arnold does: he thinks the football is his, he's not trying to play wide receiver unless he has to, he wants to go play football, I love it and I mean, I had a chance to talk to him a little bit at the Rose Bowl media day. Here, you know, just a short drive from here in Pasadena, he's a guy that's confident that he's a Giver of energy, uh, to your locker room, to your defensive back, he's got the mental makeup plus obviously all the skills and all the athletic traits that you want, but the mental makeup to be a cornerback on an island, he does have and you know I won.
However, I didn't let it go because he challenged me to a little slam done contest. We had a little conversation on the way to the draft, so I have to make sure I challenge you to accept like him? Did you accept the challenge? Why should I? Why would I reject SM? When we watched his video and I told him he was a vert champion, you get Teran's vert when he means 37, what's your vert, you get 40, you don't buy, no, that's a cute little idiot, but I like to talk which ones they are. we're talking about if we're doing backflips I'm not doing backflips like we're dipping that's right, I mean, that's cute, like what we give like a 35 37, what's that jumping on R and DJ, My God, many?
Personality, although he had a lot of Buzz, I think Clayon and I brought it out and the nice gesture he made with his janitor maybe does it well. I love that he signed his jersey and brought it back to his high school. he'll make him come to his first game of his and he'll get the next jersey, so it'll be a lions jersey coming back to Teran Arnold's high school. um, yeah, he's a super fun guy to be around, I think the lion he fits in with. what the Lions want and that makes now their division rival the Green Bay Packers look like the pick is already at 25 and they will be able to choose between offensive linemen if they want Tyler gon still there from Oklahoma we know that's not the case . a wide receiver, that's not going to happen, huh, Graham Barton, your 19th best player on the board is still there, we, Cooper, here, can we get him?
We can get it? It's a necessity too from Iowa to Green Bay, they have a little bit of a channel where they are good with the Iowa players has been very successful for them, so they still are, they still want to see Eric Stokes play his best football. You have a situation where Anthony Johnson, you know they need security too and there. There are a lot of people in this draft who think Cooper Deene is a cornerback, it depends on his scheme. There are a lot of people who think his best football will also be as a Harrison Smith-type safety in the NFL.
You know, when I'm the kind of guy who could come in quickly and match up very cleanly with Xavier McKen if they wanted to. There was also a very strange year for Jer Alexander. Also suspended, do you know how they still feel? which by Stokes I mean it would be Cooper Deene, can we agree that he should be the third one off the board? Could you value Nate Wiggins? Could you rate? I think it's, I think Koolaid and Cooper are the next two cornerbacks. board, I think he's the best nickel defender, like using the corner fits what they do in Green Bay, I think because remember Jeff Hatley takes over the vision, here's the pick with the 25th pick in 2024 NFL draft, Green Bay Packers and hosts for 2025 NFL draft selected Jordan Morgan tackles Arizona okay Lance zerline Jordan Morgan No Gon or Barton how does he fit well here?
He's got more experience than Tyler, frankly, and I mean, and he's a natural left tackle, he played left tackle with the uh, with Arizona, I thought his best football was a game against USC that I thought was tremendous in 2022 and then He tore his knee, uh, at the end of the year, and he's still trying to recover from that knee, I didn't think. He played the best football he has this year because you can see that he is still trying to recover from the knee, but Jordan Morgan is very talented and hasexperience as a left tackle.
David Bakari is gone. Tyler gon is inexperienced and has mainly played there. Jordan is potentially more of a plug-and-play guy right now than Tyler gon, so I don't know if the upside is as high as Tyler gens, but Green. Bay, I think what they're banking on here is that they want to know the answer right now, they don't want to wait and find out if they did it right. I think they see Jordan Morgan as a safe left tackle and look, I think this really reflects how we think about this class of offensive tackle the number of guys that are already gone Jordan Morgan was the guy we talked about potentially being on the first line round second round goes off the board experienced player Jordan love remember that Jordan love is in line to get the bag very soon I have to make sure I build the Fortress around him so he can do what he does in the pocket, well that means The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock at the 26th pick and could see this going.
In many ways it looks like that pick could already be available, in fact, that's right, the announcement of the Bucks' first round pick is on the way when we return and we'll bring it back live to Detroit here at the Draft Center. Welcome back to the featured Draft Center. by FedEx as the 2024 NFL draft progresses ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' pick at 26, two picks ago, the Detroit Lions traded to the Dallas Cowboys to make Alabama cornerback Tyon Arnold the new Detroit Lion and is celebrating with hundreds of thousands of Lions fans in attendance have done a phenomenal job filling the draft theater and the Draft Arena, uh, near downtown Detroit, it's great to see the home team make their selection now, the Tampa Bay Bucks, we've talked about the possibility of defense here. but they're also in kind of a long restructure of their offensive line, really Tristan is the only main stay there, they took Cody M uh last year in the second round, plug him along that offensive line there at Right Guard a lot.
There are many opportunities for improvement, Bucky Brooks, yes, many opportunities for improvement. Remember they signed Baker Mayfield. So Baker Mayfield is your Q for the next few years. You want to make sure he's capable of playing the style of game that he's going to develop. work for his offense, so strengthening the offensive line, making sure he doesn't have people in his face, and allowing Comforts to be thrown in the pocket makes sense. They also have to improve as a running offense. They couldn't run the ball at will. They need to do it. be able to run the ball to be able to dictate terms so this should be an offensive line Graham Barton Tyler and Jackson Powers Johnson yeah I think you know I think they're okay with Luke G being the right tackle right now and if They can't put me in the guard, this really comes down to their needs right now are cornerback Edge and they're not going to draft Edge, so middle cornerback and guard are the big, big needs I have in my list of needs, grah.
Barton can play center or guard. I think that makes a lot of sense, but I'm also not sure Zion mcallum is ready to play that role full time, so to me Kool-Aid Mckinstry would make sense here, grah Barton. I think those are the two natural fits here, so the commissioner is ready to start his walk from the tunnel to the podium and he has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pick in his left hand on that card, the next Buck hopes to get this Tampa team. Back to the postseason again here we go with the 26th pick in the 2024 NFL draft Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Graham Barton Center Duke the wait is over for Graham Barton one of the most versatile offensive linemen in this draft class here Lance Zer line tell us about him, he is the safest offensive lineman in the entire draft, he has played tackle but can play guard or center and what is the flexibility of five for a position, it is very rare to see a guy who can play left tackle, right tackle as well as guard and center. but Grant Barton has the ability to do that if he needs to take you out of a game at tackle, he's athletic enough as a play blocker to come out and block on the perimeter, but that's where he really stands out for me. it's his hand placement, his hand usage is the ability to bend and take advantage as a run blocker and pass protector, he can anchor inside against strong guys he has, he's a 6'4 tackle with an interior lineman with arms approximately 33 inches.
Right in that neighborhood, but it's really sub 33, but what's impressive to me is when you have a guy that plays tackle in college and he comes in, that's a big plus from a Pro St pass and he played center. like a real 18 year old freshman. at Duke it's not a problem for him um I really like this pick because it's not a sexy pick but it's a necessary pick but yeah you need pick versatility in the high IQ inside player you're talking about being able to come in right into the lineup and give them immediate production this is a high performing player someone who is smart we had him on the podcast the other day very impressive 19 offensive players in the first round tonight which ties the common draft era the Arizona Cardinals have 20 offensive players?
They are set for their pick at number 27 also see a player like Johnny Newton go here to the Cardinals or maybe another tackle we see Roger Goodell with the selection with the number 27 pick in the 2024 NFL draft the Arizona Cardinal selects to defensive tackle Darius Robinson Missouri and with that the Green Room is empty at one in Detroit, all 13 players who attended this year's draft have now left the green room and Darius Robinson is 13th, as he goes 27th overall to the Cardinals, there was some talk about whether he will end up in the first round. a margin there, does it go above the two?
That beautiful sports code now heads to the desert there in Phoenix, as the Arizona Cardinals have made one of the really interesting positions of Flex-type players in this year's draft, their pick at 27. their second first-round pick, will follow to Marvin Harrison Jr to Arizona, so Trader Monty stands and stays and picks at both the four and 27 and they get a potential cornerstone on both sides of the ball there with Harrison and now Robinson at #2. him in Detroit, oh he got a bonus announcement from the commissioner, no, here we high five and that's it, okay Lance, take us through Darius Robinson, a great player that you could really group anywhere as an edge player or as interior type. of the player along the D line, Darius Robinson, you also have to go back and look at 2022 because he was a defensive tackle there, he is a great looking player physically, long arms, he is well muscled, he doesn't have a lot of body fat.
Trimm up to about the 285 range. played defensive end this year, you know he's not a natural defensive back, but if you boil him down to defensive tackle, oh, he's got that ability, he's a good athlete, but most importantly he's got the even and odd front flexibility and Bucky, you can. Speaking of which, in this era of hybrid football, the ability to change where you play a player, whether he's a five-technique, whether he's a base wing, whether he's down, like a three-technique or maybe even lining up. right there. a technique because you think he's too fast for the interior guys, players like Darius Robinson who used to be pre-teens, now they're hybrid flexibility guys, yeah, hyperflexibility is what he brings, he's someone who spent most of his career as defensive tackle before kicking out, this year we see the ability to rush the passer, but really what I like about him is that, to me, he is a solid base end, which means he will be really good against the Run, he can give you a new passing skill, but it's more of a compliment than the guy who is the tone Setter on the edges but a very good football player High motor intensity brings a lot to the table Todd BS is going to like it a lot, not Todd BS, but Ariz Arizona is going to like him I like him a lot because he is a pitch setter, he is a very physical player and Canon is going to love him, yes they are trying, they are trying to find core players right now.
Arizona's roster when you look at it, I mean, there are holes. all over the place and they have a lot of different draft picks, but this is a physical player who is a pitch setter that you get in the first round. It helps that he plays two different positions from a football point of view, but every new one trains every new regime, every time you try to build you want to develop toughness in the trenches and he's a tough guy player in the trenches, okay, so we have 27 picks on the books and we have an interesting trade involving the Kansas City Chiefs. the clock is on hold Lance has a Lance has an idea he has a hunch about the motivation behind this trade for the Chiefs and he will have his pick at number 28 they traded with the bills when we return welcome back the center presented by FedEx take you in from the draft room of the world champion Kansas City Chiefs, the consecutive champion Kansas Kan, the City Chiefs make this selection here at 28, moving up four spots helped them achieve the 3p in a row, are the details of the trade, obviously, the 28 to 32 trade trade with the bills, the Bills and Chiefs then essentially trade a third rounder for a fourth rounder, the Bills get that third rounder while sending a fourth to Kansas City and then essentially trade slots in the seventh round 221 to 248 there That's how that exchange works.
Those Ian Ravor Rett Lewis Bucky Brooks L Zer details are here with you as we near the conclusion of the first night of the draft in Detroit. We actually had a really fun time in Detroit in the last few picks. trading up to 24 to select Teran Arnold and then the local guy who grew up a Lions fan, Darius Robinson, was just the last pick announced by the Arizona Cardinals, obviously played his college ball at Missouri, so now they're the Chiefs with 28 those who make this movement. Do you think Buck likes that we'd like to think they're going to get a pass catcher, but I don't think that's it.
There is talk about Lance, like his ability, his willingness or his desire to improve the offensive line, so maybe there is an offensive lineman here that they are really looking for someone they want the best player on their board right now The Lance line Zer is Nate Wiggins followed by Kool-Aid McKenry they just lost Lerus sne they did uh I think koid I think Kool-Aid on Wiggins just because they were so good in high school Co is still out There you know I think they liked him which Jaylen Watson did as a rookie last year, or two years ago, I should say, and then Josh Williams did as well.
I know they like it in the fourth round. You've got Trent McDuffy, who's fantastic at nickel, right, you know what happens with Rashi rice, that's a big question mark when you look at Maris Brown, you've got a quick little guy that you added to the mix, right? Are you leaving Xavier Legette and continuing with him? big wide receiver is something you could do, Adonai Mitchell, could you consider Mitchell a big target? Also, this is complicated, this is complicated for me. I'm not sure what they have in mind. Well, special selection here as we bring you back live to Detroit the NFL is proud to support life-changing wishes that make a wish grant an important wish was made by a young man named Justin Le who was diagnosed with kidney failure He was 15 and received a trans kidney transplant from his father last year Justin's love of football and the Chiefs helped him get through those treatments Please welcome Justin to the stage whose desire is to announce the first round pick of the draft for his beloved Kansas City Chiefs.
I would like everyone to join me in cheering on Justin as this wish comes true. The field is yours. Justin, go get it, honey. The Buffalo Bills have traded the No. 28 pick to the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 28 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, back-to-back. The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs draft Xavier with decent speed and hey, look, the guy's gotta be more than a one-trick pony now, Bucky, but that 421 certainly stands out well, that 4-21 will get you pushes back and let's be honest, the K C The Chiefs are back-to-back champions, but the offense hasn't been the same since Tyreek Heel left.
Tyreek Heel was the vertical playmaker who took over the top of the defense and made it easy for everyone else. Now you have someone who has that speed to really. create opportunities for the other guys working underneath. No, we don't know what the state of the rice will be, but we do know that this guy outside will attract a lot of attention, he will open the field and maybe help Travis. Kelsey got some easier layups, well, you know, Andy and those guys, they saw how easy life was, how much better life was when Tyreek Hill and that kind of speed was in thefield as soon as he comes on the field, the safeties have to back off. up, they have to account for him, you can't stop the run that easily, you can't, you can't leave someone extra in the box, you need shade cover, if you're going to play anyone you know, you better be shaded. in his direction, he helps the running game, he will help the wide receiver, on the other hand, he can help Travis Kelce, I think it's the ancillary benefits of speed that often go unnoticed, but when you want to talk about the wide receiver himself , you already know.
When we saw what Dell did in Houston for the Texans, he had seven touchdowns before he got hurt and was out for the year and he doesn't have the speed that you have with Xavier Worthy, but Xavier Worthy doesn't have a stiff hip. kind of straight line speed like uh Valdes Scantling we're talking about a wide receiver that can bend it and break it who can who can shake it uh at the top of the route and Beach stemless and I mean he's has ability of instant separation on multiple levels, not just a vertical buildup speed, we're talking about someone who can get open and if there's one thing Bucky has been unusual to see and they don't follow the mode, it's Kansas doing Kansas.
The city doesn't care about getting the basketball team since you say they have Hollywood Brown and Xavier worthy, they don't care, they don't care well and I think a lot of people you know say they do. go looking for a receiver due to the impending discipline of Rashid Rice by the league due to the car incident he had here. I don't see it that way, that's why they did this, they could have done it even with them. different players not now, I don't think what happened with the rice had any impact, but curiously this was initially mentioned by our producer Drew, it is the trade between the Bills and the Chiefs, which allowed the Chiefs to move up 17 spots to get to Patrick Mahomes.
You know, it's interesting to see that they now allow him to maybe get another big weapon as those two teams fight for AFC supremacy and get back to the Super Bowl, so there's an interesting symmetry, but now the Cowboys have made their choice. at 29 after allowing the Lions to move up to their original spot at 24 just a few picks ago, so the Lions moved to 24, the Cowboys moved back to 29 and that's the pick commissioner Roger Goodell will announce right now to that rocket, oh. gotta catch a fumble fumble ball security B ball security let's see where the Dallas Cowboys go to continue their trend Allin with the 29th pick in the 2024 NFL draft Dallas Cowboys select Tyler to attack Oklahoma it worked , so there you know it was kind of I thought maybe they weren't as interested in interior players in the first round as some had suggested early on and they got a guy in Tyler who gave them maybe some future here at Lance at tackle, so you have to figure out what Detroit is doing at the time of the trade, they tell you what they're going to do and then you start doing the math on everything.
They may have gotten a little nervous there, when, when, uh, when the Chiefs traded, but Really good job, smart job on the part of the Dallas Cowboys to back off and still get a tackle that a lot of us had targeted the Dallas Cowboys, so Tyler is going to be a high ceiling player, but he has to play more football, there is no way to do it. it speeds up the process for him, he hasn't played enough football yet to really understand all the tricks that NFL running backs are going to throw at him, some of the push-pull things he's going to do to you.
I know having to face Bucky, that will be new for him, but he is long, he has the athleticism to play on the right side or the left side and I think as he learns the position, it will be his Ascension to become a true player. a good tackle could be very, very fast, yes, he could be very fast, the former tight end making a transition. You think about what the Cowboys have been able to do with offensive lineman in the past. Some of the guys even like a guy they took from Telsa. wasn't a polished guy, but then he comes to Dallas and plays really well, so maybe Gu can be on a similar path, gives them the versatility to play right tackle, left tackle, maybe they don't have to move Smith outside and watch the Cowboys come back. your Roots are right that this type of run that had taken them to the top of the division several times was really key when they went heavy on the offensive line Ty Tyron Smith Zack Martin Travis Frederick and now they are back in that well last year happened with Tyler Smith and now they continue to rebuild that Great Wall of Texas right there in front of Dak Prescott, at least for this year, yeah, that's where we've gone with that, let's play in the last year of the deal and see what happens after this so that the Baltimore Ravens, AFC North champions for the first time since 2019, have been theirs.
It would be shocking here it's like Kool-Aid mckinstry uh player B fell into his lap. The Bama player falls right into the turn of him you have cooper uher cooper deine who could be someone you could take a look at here. I'm trying to get it out of my head. I guess I think he feels like a player throwing it at Mitchell, who is very talented. but they surround the receivers, I don't think they can do that, but they are in a good position here and if they want to get a cornerback and they love the Bama players.
I Corner makes a lot of sense here, you know, Marlon Humphrey has been a really good player for them dealing with some injuries last year. The Ravens need an old school looking board right there, they need a uh, they wrote there Buck, what do we have to do? Yes, Magnus and everything you don't need, oh, there's our Magnus. Yeah, still in the room, sit at the head of the table, so they need an offensive tackle, um, but I don't think they're going to find one here. They need an attack, a lead back doesn't seem like it. one here an offensive guard this could be a pick where you take a look at uh John Powers Jackson Jackson pow Johnson there Jackson pow Johnson who can play center or guard so you could and you just do it just , uh, they don't need a center.
They have the Linder bomb, but they need the guard, yes they need the guard, so that could be a position, but they also need the corner, so I think right now you look at maybe Oregon big man Jackson P Johnson or take a look look at kool-aid mckinstry, that would be my guess. Here you think Kool-Aid is more than Nate Wigin right now for a team like the Ravens. I do it based on the way the Ravens draft and their profile. I think so. I think Nate Wiggins. I had the belief that he could get out of the first type of weight, he weighs 170 and some pounds and we saw with the Forbes man who weighed 166 last year when he weighs 30 pounds less than Bryce Young, that's jarring to say that out loud.
And to hear it, he really had a tough time last year. I know he's 30 pounds lighter than Bryce Young, who we talked about, he was so small, and Emanuel Forbes really struggled a lot last year in the NFL and I think that might scare some teams. with Wiggins, who was very talented, fast, fantastic feet, great athleticism, good football player, but that 170 pound outlier is kind of strange that the quarterback is kind of bed, but yeah, that's for sure and then you know Koid Mckin is going to need that foot fixed. At some point, yes, that influences a decision here, ultimately you hope it's okay.
Obviously he ran pretty fast dealing with Jones' broken foot throughout this entire process. Here's commissioner Roger Gell with the 30th pick in the 2024 NFL. He picks the Baltimore Ravens, he picks Nate Wiggins defensive back, Clemson, I guess they want that bite, they wanted that speed, uh, I guess they want that bite. Well, look as a football player, you know he's a little bit high on my list, because I think Nate Wiggins is just a really good cover cornerback. I mean, on tape, he was probably the best pure coverage cornerback on tape and he's very, very fast.
The question you have with Nate Wiggins is whether he is big enough to withstand NFL and/or tackles. wide receivers and when teams decide to talk. Target him in the run game, how is he going to handle from a durability standpoint? Can he take guys down as a tackler? I don't think he's going to be a great tackler in the run game. I think the Run game is going to be a problem for him, but man, he has incredible makeup speed, very fluid in the hips, able to mirror and combine with the back pedal, he is not going to be outclassed, you can throw him at whoever you want .
I need him and he can handle speed down the field, so Nate Wiggins is a cornerback I really like. I'm a little surprised because I don't feel like that's the Ravens' type of cornerback, but you know, from a talent standpoint, it's there. I just felt like that 175-pound cornerback might be something that could get him taken out. the first round. Yes, he's not the typical cornerback that the Baltimore Ravens draft, but he's a really good player who makes transitions and does all the things smoothly. in the coverage play that they like to see, but the physicality and toughness has to show up on tape, yes, there is no doubt and look, he does a great job off the field and he is also very aware of where he comes from and the difficulty , you know.
In his position, he's gotten to the stage he's in now, so he's a guy who certainly has some conscience and appreciation for what he's done and the accomplishment that it means for him and his family. Nate Wiggins to the Ravens, who is headed to San Francisco will be the next pick for the faithful when we return here in the draft at the Draft Center presented by FedEx returns him to Detroit where the pick for the 49ers is, which means the final selection in the first round of this 2024 NFL draft belonging to the Buffalo. The bills are now in the making process, we have just under 10 minutes left for the bills to make the 302nd and final selection, but at number 31 we are about to find out who it will be and this is an interesting one here Bucky because at 31 we've seen a defensive run here in the second half of this first round the corners are still there Kool-Aid mckinstry is still there we've talked about inis rraw maybe get in the first uh We've had the defense.
Defensive lineman Johnny Newton is still there. I think most of the avant-garde guys are gone at this point. Yes, the board has been cleaned. We already tied the record for offensive tackles. Eight are gone. The center is still there and JP J Jackson po Johnson uh I think I think they would rather have an offensive tackle if they could have gotten him there's no offensive tackle there so now it has to be one of the corners think Kool-Aid on its Rik andraw and then cooper dein cooper to correct someone on the outside but it should be someone in the defensive backfield because they really struggled in that area last season and then maybe they can come back and attack the offensive tackle position on day two .
The issues with Brandon Nayuk determine what they can do here. Do you see him as a potential move perhaps on the second day of the draft? Do they keep it throughout the draft? Do you think he's a player of that caliber in iuk or Debo Samuel who had kind of Coming back to the trade talk lately, would you have seen a trade like that for a team tonight because normally you wanted Capital to be right, but he's going to want a new contract, so there's a sliding trend. scale, the more money you have to pay, the less value you'll get with draft picks, so you could use it as a draft cap for um or it's trading Capital to get an early second pick. round, um, really what I'm asking is would you look. in ad Mitchell, who would be the guy you say?
Okay, we can bring him here instead of Juan Jennings and have him eventually replace Brandon. I think it's a bit of a long shot due to the need at cornerback, here's the pick with the 31st pick in the 2024 NFL draft San Francisco 49ers select Ricky peaw wide receiver Florida hot dang rcky beaw 42 in vert 4340 4440 extreme athlete great route buff tell us about a buck i love him love his game this is a route runner extraordinaire, he has all the tricks of the trade when it comes to getting open in the middle of the field, great hands, great ball skills ball, he really masters the art of getting open, he is a great playmaker, someone who can get open. he has a run and catch ability that the Niners love maybe just maybe this is a sign a smoke signal yeah okay Lance yeah you were starting to hit him yeah I think Brandon Nauk will be coming out me too.
I think Ricky Peara, I mean, that's the catch of the year. That catch he made was absolutely. I didn't know I was going to get it when I saw the tape and I probably spent about 30 4 minutes on it. It was amazing Ricky, but Ricky Peaw. From a split standpoint, Ricky Pew is good as anyone in this draft is splitting other thanmaybe you know the pure speed of Xavier Worthy and Malik's neighbors, but Ricky Pew has very good hands, you can't guard him in the slot and then he has the ability, I think to win physically against smaller nickels and then separate against bigger players too and then what really impressed me was what he did at the combine.
I think that's what pushed him into the first round for San Francisco: he ran. a 441 jumped over 40 in vertical jump. I mean, this is an elite athletic profile for Ricky Pierce and that's what pushed him into the first round. People say combining doesn't matter, oh, combining matters, oh yes, combining matters, trust me and a little more. of a compact physical body type that a player like lad makoni, who we also thought he was in, were compared in a similar way, but if you like the guy, do you like a bigger, faster guy? Because that's Ricky, he's a little bigger and faster, yeah.
I mean, they're there, I mean, the guy ran 439, I think he finished, but yeah, I mean, did he run down that fast? Wait a minute, wait a minute, now with the 30 he jumped 38, look what we have now. yeah we have it as an interesting one place trade unless they didn't stay they didn't keep 33 I'm not sure I'm not sure why we did this right yeah they moved one place so that's it , Well. So what the heck, what does Buffalo need? They need him, but we all know they need a wide receiver. The first pick that was talked about, they were looking at LAD Maki or Xavier Legette and a lot of people have said. look at this in not in 30 in 33 oh the Panthers I think the Panthers right now the bill says we're about to take a receiver and the Panthers say we'll give you the fourth fifth whatever they give them and maybe jump in and get the wide receiver they're going to get a 33 any skill from a veteran GM and Brandon Dean on a first year GM and they did it tonight hey look this is where Jo Douglas goes is that someone using a Dan Morgan jersey in the draft room wouldn't surprise me 55 oh yeah, who is it?
I love it, I love it, what if I was Dan Morgan wearing his own t-shirt? Oh, I mean, it's not, but move on, there was Dan Morgan. us, his own jersey, where your own jersey is 30th out of the normally you get calls at 33rd for teams that want this is very strange, this is very strange and the only thing I can think is that you just said we have to have this guy like you don't want you don't want to lose him you want to lose you don't want to lose whoever the player is I mean, unless it's a corner, it might as well be a corner, I mean, in front of JC Horn, I guess you are.
He could also be like a Kool-Aid McKenry or Cooper deim, but you know everyone's still looking there, maybe it's surprising, but Justin, shorter right now, is Buffalo's outside wide receiver, that just doesn't count for me, They don't believe that they. They needed a wide receiver, they said they could have drafted someone worthy, they said they didn't think they needed a number one receiver, they feel Josh Allen can elevate whoever they bring in, they are ready for him to do his Mitchell Xavier Legette. makoni boy um that's three wide receivers to take a look at here and if you go to the corner, I think it's obviously Cooper deine and um and Kool-Aid McKenry, I think it has to be one of those five play channels. going crazy in the draft room uh the new head coach there in Carolina I mean you must really love this guy yeah yeah no kidding I want him to move up one spot with a team you like hey hey GNA take this guy? you also get a fifth year option, that's true, you get that too and if it's a wide receiver and you know how expensive if you hit that wide receiver, they get tremendously expensive, tremendously fast, it's nice to have that fifth year with them , it's interesting.
He's really going from 33rd and the first pick of the second round to the 32nd and the last pick of the first round and the last pick tonight in Detroit, one that has been full of drama and many big surprises as the number eight when Atlanta he took Mike Pennick and actually the lack of changes early was a bit surprising. JJ McCarthy ends up going to the Minnesota Vikings, but at number 10 he doesn't reach level four or five and the Carolina Panthers, who we didn't expect to hear from until tomorrow night, will close tonight from Detroit with the first pick of the NBA era.
Dan Morgan SL Dave Canalis there for the Panthers and Roger Goodell is ready to close it, Buffalo Bills have traded the No. 32 pick to the Carolina Panthers with the No. 32 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Carolina Panthers select Xavier liot, the South Carolina wide receiver who closes the first round, thank you Detroit for a record-breaking night, don't forget that in the next two days you can break the all-time NFL draft record, thank you. tomorrow night at 7 o'clock, so wasn't this all on the news? Bucky, he mentioned it. Dave Canales told Xavier Legette that he was going to take him to choose you.
He said it, he told it, but then Dave also said that I. I told that to about 50 different prospects after his cover was blown, that's what happened, but yeah, look, last year the Carolina Panthers took Jonathan Mingo in hopes they could get a body playmaker in the outside, he didn't necessarily play much, it didn't work out, so now they go back to the world, this guy was a great one-year player, uh, for South Carolina, not a one-year player, but he was a revelation in his last season in South Carolina where he really exploded and became the big vertical threat C. the ball, he's physical, he just adds another weapon to the Arsenal for the Carolina Panthers as they help Bryce Young take a big step in year two . 71 receptions, just over 12,200 yards and seven touchdowns there for the leg with a scouting director compared to Anquan.
He just said look, he's faster than Anquan, but he said that the attitude of him on the field, the competitiveness of him, the physicality of him, he said that he plays a lot like Anquan used to play and, uh, Anquan was a 47 40 boys. Xavier Legette ran much better, but this is Basically what we're talking about, Carolina had it circled, they knew where they were going and they didn't want to lose them to the buffalo. The buffaloes bluffed a little and said, you know, we'll give you a little extra choice here. here's your little pick, Buffalo, we're going to get our guy, we're not going to take any risks and we're going to get a fifth year option in case Bucky, I think that's kind of interesting because for the bills you know if he were your boy they wouldn't budge from that selection, so they feel pretty good about where they're coming from, yeah, they feel pretty good about who's going to be available on day two.
They feel like maybe they can get a receiver in the second or third round to complement it, but to me it says that the Buffalo Bills believe in Josh Allen's ability to elevate the Playmakers around him, we'll see if they're right and you know that It's enough for Carolina, there was no second round or third round, um that. was going to be their choice, that was a big choice for them, well they gave up 39 because they were 39 so that doesn't work for them? They are still selecting. You are 100% right. I think I already did it. you know why I say that because I've already given you Edan Cooper so congratulations and my mock draft for L.
I already have my 2.3 mock draft. I do a mock draft in the second and third rounds. I stay up all night. you guys, then, um, I'll take it out. I'll finish it tonight. Edan Cooper was already drafted, yeah, by the Carolina Panthers at age 39, so congratulations to Texas A&M Edan Cooper and the Panthers for getting that Speedy linebacker, um, so we don't. We don't have the details on the Panthers trade yet. We make? What do you have? Let's see, we are working. This is in real time for you. Here, friends, we are working on it.
It comes so that Carolina gets there where the receiver and You know what's the point, you know, it's funny. I had a conversation with someone from the Texans on the way to the combine and I asked him about Bryce Young and CJ Strad and I said, how do you think he would have done against Bryce Young on offense? he said well he would have been a good player and that really shows that now they thought CJ would have been better but it really shows that where you land is very important and for Bryce Young it is important that they find their type like you really need to find someone that is the Bryce guy very, very quick so as not to get him down too much.
You have to be able to protect him first and foremost, but you have to give him a big goal that he feels comfortable with. the bills essentially to do this go down one spot and then up 59 spots in three from 200 to 141, that's basically what a sixth and fifth round trade was to move up that spot, it's okay to make that pick, so the Panthers, if I correct myself if I'm wrong, JT, but it's going to come back up at 39 and 65 um, so yeah, that's right, so there you have it, we'll see the Panthers again on the second day, but not at 33, the bills will have that. first pick, but 32 are on the books and with that it's time for the FedEx air and ground players to take a look as we enter tomorrow here on the line ler Jonathan Brooks, this is my favorite running back in the draft, I think if this were any other year and he hadn't torn his ACL, he would have been considered in the back half of the first round. he has loose hips.
He works the interior very well. he has quick, quick feet. he can stack cuts upon cuts. He has very good vision. and to me he is one of the smoothest running backs in this entire draft. I think whoever gets him is going to get a very good running back coming off the ACL but he also has about 238 carries in his entire career so there's not much to do. off the tires, that's one of the things you like about Jonathan, uh, Jonathan, um Brooks, and he's also a good runner and a good receiver out of the backfield, so that's something to keep an eye on and tomorrow he'll go to the second round, okay. straight to the Cowboys, yeah, there you go, uh, what do you have for us here?
Bucky on something you're excited to see, we need to see a safety. Talen nubin needs to go. I mean, I would always talk about Cooper DES, but I want to go to another play on Big 10 Talen Nubin, the best pure center field safety in this draft class. 13 interceptions in his career, always around the ball. I'm excited to see where day two goes. This is a playmaker and what the league is like. Obviously, with all these offensive players coming off the board, you better have someone who can take the deep ball away. Tyler Newman does it better than anyone in his draft class, okay, so Tyler Nuben would be the first safety off the board. one on the night one didn't get a running back didn't get a linebacker off the ball expect those groups to come off the board here uh guys maybe the biggest surprises that didn't come up in the first round Cooper from jeene one of them for me Kool-Aid Kool -Aid wasn't one and then Johnny Newton also had some ability to go in the first round.
Mitchell too. Edie Mitchell started getting some love at the end of the process, where we thought maybe he sucked until the end of the process. first round, yeah, someone else we missed. I'm just looking, let me go back to your top 300 here. Lance and these are more or less three, yes, I mean the guys we mentioned. Jackson pow Johnson, yeah, Jackson pow Johnson is a little bit of a surprise because we talked about him being the first rounder, I probably thought he was the second rounder, I mean the only guys that really surprised me from a grades standpoint and yeah we went out just my grades would be um Kool-Aid McKenry right out. grades because he had a 64 on him and Cooper had a 63, which is usually a second early, uh, but I thought he would go first because he has safety flexibility at the corners and there are still good players available, really good players early . the second guys that made it to the first round that we maybe didn't expect, Ricky certainly fit that bill, Jordan Morgan from Arizona, ended up in the first round, so all in all it was an entertaining night if ever there was one here, trade quarterbacks for a record.
Setting up the night on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball for different reasons, Cayla Williams got things started. Five more quarterbacks heard her name called us. She didn't take a defensive player off the board until the midway point of the first round at No. 15, when Leu Latu earned that fame as the first defensive player. Much more is to come, of course, as we are back here with you at 7 o'clock. ET tomorrow
