I Played ONLY The Nintendo 64 For A Week In 2023

May 12, 2024
I've been thinking about new content ideas lately and I've been watching quite a few Retro Game Collection videos. Seeing these consoles often awakens feelings of nostalgia in all of us and makes us long for our past, our childhood, and the times. They are simpler. I've even seen some people comment on these types of videos and say that they feel like gaming died after the old console here and that they would gladly play this old console in their titles instead of the crap of today's gaming world. Now I will do it. Let's say there is some merit to the talk about the many trends in modern gaming that have alienated gamers, such as the atrocious microtransactions found in many online games that release half-bait games just to put something on the shelves that developers can fix later and remake or remaster everything under the sun, but hearing that some of these gamers would rather go back to a time when all they had were older consoles made me think what it would be like if you

only

had one console oldest to play in

2023

, so this marks the first episode of this new series where I will take an older console and

only

play that console for seven days to start.
i played only the nintendo 64 for a week in 2023
We have one of the first consoles I ever

played

, even though I was very young. and terrible at video games at the time, the Nintendo 64. For an entire

week

I

played

just the Nintendo 64 to see what it would be like if this was my only way to play video games despite it being one of my first Being My Life and Me consoles. quite young, as I said before, I have extremely vivid and pleasant memories of some of the experiences I had, even if they are also a bit vague at the same time, a bit weird, yeah, it's hard to explain.

More Interesting Facts About,

i played only the nintendo 64 for a week in 2023...

I was really looking forward to starting this challenge, and by the time I finished my review of Final Fantasy 16, I started life with just a Nintendo 64. The only modern gaming I could do was play the two series I stream every Thursday and Friday Night, so sit back, relax, and enjoy my experience of playing solo on a Nintendo 64 for a

week

in

2023

. Before we talk about my experience with the console, we should probably get to know this beauty a little better. The Nintendo 64 was the continuation of Nintendo. the eternally popular and legendary Super Nintendo entertainment system that sold nearly 50 million units worldwide.

As you can imagine, the shoes to fill here were incredibly large. The N64 was the first home console to feature 3D graphics in the 64-bit style. It was also the introduction of the analogue joystick to the controllers we recognize today, it came in a wide variety of colors and almost 400 games were released during its lifetime, the N64 came out in 1996 in the states and was the last home console to use game cartridges. Even a little-known console called the Nintendo Switch came out more than two decades later, however, this choice by Nintendo was counterintuitive since the cartridges for its games were expensive and could not contain as much information as the CD-ROMs that the consoles would have in the game. future.

Adopting this may also be a reason why third-party support for Nintendo would decrease and its dependence on first-party game support, which even occurs today, would become so heavy that the Nintendo 64 would be hailed as one of the best video game consoles. . of all time, so hey, who are those developers now that we've talked a little bit about console history? I want to note something before I get into my overall experience. I didn't include the two Zelda or Super titles. Mario 64 In this challenge, which I know some of you may find difficult to tackle, my reasoning is that I feel like each of these games deserve their own video and I thought with the scope of these three games I could have easily done it.
I played Ocarina of Time, for example, all week and I've never played anything else and I'm probably still not optimistic about this game. I've played all of these titles before and really enjoyed them. I think they are all masterpieces in their own right and their existence on the Nintendo 64 would be fully considered when I talk about the console as a whole at the end of This. I swear, okay, so this challenge was one that I can't wait to start because I was ready to dive back into a console that I own. I haven't played in many years, as I said before.
I have some vivid memories of Nintendo 64 games due to the limited understanding of gaming I had at the time and I was wondering if the legendary magic of the old games known as Nostalgia would show its face. For me, I was really curious to see how long it would take me to lose some of the comforts or elegance of modern video games. In fact, I couldn't wait to upload my review of Final Fantasy 16 the day I did and after it was up, I looked at it and said hello wife, it's time to go back to the Legend years.
The first thing I noticed right away is that a lot of retro gamers say it's 100. It's true that older games are extremely difficult now, I can't say for sure. They're harder than modern games as a whole because we have games like the Souls genre, which are hard on purpose, they're intentionally hard, but they're definitely harder than the average modern release. Seriously, nothing will humiliate you more than trying to play fast. one and being completely decimated by a demon because it's quite difficult to get used to the controls on the Nintendo 64 controller, plus the game just deals serious damage overseas, this was a theme that was present in most of the games that I played and In fact, I found this amount of challenge refreshing, if not a little daunting, because it was giving another reminder of why people look at me for my personality and not my skills.
Another thing I noticed early on is that the games just had a different feel to them. To them there's something about these older titles that just feel adventurous, as if the developers at the time weren't afraid to try outlandish ideas to see what worked and what didn't. I remember the good old days Ubisoft those good old days where you used to put Towers in each of your games, we would have to go up, up, up, your little towers, up them and up, up so you can see the rest of the map. I remember, oh, and Owen doesn't.
Forget that you have to defeat enemy camps to unlock more maps too. I remember it, but this is what is mainly remembered with sports games, back in the retro days for me, where EA made a football game and rugby, an NCAA basketball game. There's also the NFL Series and FIFA Street that would be on later consoles and yes, this is a topic for another video, but the point is that a lot of these games had some nonsense that just worked. I'm not saying we shouldn't do it. I have these experiences in modern games, but it's like something about these older games, at least the ones I played, feels like each game is different and unique.
Get out of here. Ubisoft. I also noticed that without the pressure of online games. I spent more time just being present, something I really struggled with that greatly affected my progress and build up over the years was my friends inviting me to play online games with them. Now I don't complain about having friends and most people. The ones I spend my time with online today are really cool and supportive, but you know, sometimes you just have a game with friends and never finish Horizon zero Dawn. I'm not over it yet, it's good, I should get over it, but some of the friends I had over the years would get mad at me for not joining them in various online games and that pressure would cause me to have a lot of games that I ended up without. play because of the feeling that I had to be online or people would do it.
You'll be disappointed in me, this carried over into my adult life and then I started putting these restrictions on myself, but like I said, everyone in my life now pushes me to play the games I want to play. Sorry for the long tangent, but what I want. What I'm trying to say is that without the pressure I now put on myself, I really relax and have a lot of fun playing these games. I also felt like without that pressure of being with everyone and never having enough time for the people in my life. Reducing online gaming meant I could free myself from that feeling that I couldn't take breaks to just watch a movie or get lost downtown on a nice day.
I felt nostalgic when I left the control and went outside and it made me feel nostalgic. enjoy the console that much more intense hope that makes sense the last thing I want to mention about how I feel about this challenge was the genuine fun I had while playing this console. I was surprised how many of these games were not just playable but are fun today. I mean, if you judge a book by its cover, I know we're not supposed to do that, but if we do, I mean, damn, I don't know anything about this boss, but no, in all seriousness.
I'm not sure how I'd feel going back to some of the Time 3D novelties of these games and while there were some rough graphics and some strange controls from time to time, I had a lot of fun, as I said before, there's just something lovely about it. on this console and its games, and there were nights where I couldn't wait to log on and get lost in the '90s, so yeah, my overall experience of having a Nintendo 64 to play in 2023 was really positive. I feel like I could've done this for a month and still haven't gotten tired of the console easily.
There are a lot of titles here that I'm going to play for the channel, either for review or general streaming. The console is really great. It was an incredible experience, this was due to many factors like the ones I talked about before and also things like the feeling that the couch co-op experience was well integrated into the games that included it and that nostalgic feeling of talking to Nadia face to face. expensive. It was simply the sweet experience of the chef's kiss. I think if you are from this era or shortly after, they are a lot of fun to have and I would recommend trying the Nintendo 64 by any means necessary if you know what I mean, because I had a great time, this is an easy recommendation in 2023 for a gaming experience retro that will give you and maybe the people you play with a good time now that I have shared my conclusions and some of my thoughts on the game in general. experience I want to share some games that I really liked and some that I really didn't like from this challenge just to help you get an idea of my taste in games.
I'd love to hear about the games you love. and even those that you don't use on Nintendo 64 in the comments below, so let me know first that we will cover the games that I didn't like and that are going to make some people angry, so so be it. It was a game that Nadia and I sat down on the first day of the challenge to play Both of Love Mario Kart 8 on Switch and I was excited to trigger some nostalgia as this was one of the main games I played that day. the n64. Mario Kart 8 is also a game that Nadia is extremely competitive in when it comes to our house, so we booted up Mario Kart 64 and started the high intensity competition we always have where Nadia and I throw turtle shells fighting for first place. . which I would like to say, but this is more like what was foreign.
I would watch Nadia continue to make quotes such as I can't even say it without laughing, this is not the kind of edge I like and Mario Kart 64 is The reason our generation has anger issues when I asked her how she really felt she said quote this game, it's stupid. Mario Kart 64 has definitely aged quite a bit. I found myself having a bit of fun with it, like with the drift mechanics, which was quite slick. and the maps were nostalgic, but they were really unwieldy on most of them. This game also severely punishes mistakes like falling off the map and not timing the accelerator pedal perfectly when Lakito drops you back on the track to take. again you will go from first to eighth place and the time it takes for your character to stop hitting the stinky leg and driving, it took us an hour to play each track at least once and then we didn't come back to this game for the first time.
The rest of the week mainly because I was afraid of being naughty with the Snapper controller and navigation. I can appreciate what this did for Mario Kart and its transition to the third dimension, but overall, I really had a good time with this one, which I'm sure will have some people using their little pincers to grab their little keyboard and tapping their little feet to tell me I'm wrong, but yeah, it just didn't work for me, so after not finding much enjoyment in Mario. Kart 64 I searched the Internet for the list of the best Nintendo 64 games or games on this console that are still fun to play today.
Countless videos and articles listed Diddy Kong Racing as a good Mario Kart racing rival, some even claiming that this game was better than Mario Kart 64. Honestly, I think there's something wrong with me at this point because, man, this game it is very bad. I didn't like my time with this one at all.game and apart from the new gimmick there is only water and air racing plus kart racing just wasn't fun. The controls are not very strict or refined. The racing elements that players can use leave a lot to be desired and overall this game was yes, it just wasn't. funny, I don't even know how to describe it, it was boring, I'm sorry to all Diddy Kong Racing fans, but I really didn't like this game, it was super bad, really bad, it was horrible, it's probably just me.
You know what you like though, so we talked about the games I didn't like, the ones I had a chance to play and they both ended up being great racing titles that everyone mentions when they talk about the N64, but man, f-zero. It's the most fun racing game of the three I played, there are no items other than the boost power you unlock, which I don't even know if that really constitutes an item, but I thought I'd miss them like the little turtle shells, but no, this one The game focused on how good you are as a runner or just knocking other people off the track until they die or fail and fall on your Death under the floating card moves fast, the soundtrack is crazy and fits very well.
With the style of the game, with shredding guitars and at breakneck speed, there are also like 30 racers on the track at any given time and man, I just can't say enough. About this game, I had a lot of fun with f-zero and I'm definitely going to play it more and more. It's a game I hope to play on audio with me at some point so I can get kicking. your ass in it for many moons to come, the darkest and most perfect game I've heard a lot about since I watch the Retro Game Collection community on YouTube quite a bit.
This is another game that I had never played and was eager to try it out. I wanted to see what the pinnacle of first-person shooters was like at the time. I have to say, this is a lot of fun and the campiness of the voice acting, as well as the overall vibe of the title, felt like a bit of a stretch. -Top action movie equipped with a person taking on the world, something like fast movement, relatively agile, gunplay, even if it was a little clumsy at times and a hilarious death sound, unfortunately, I was only able to play this one for a few hours a day out of my challenge, but as with most of these games, I plan to come back and beat this one for sure.
Perfect Dark is a really fun experience and there's a lot to love here. Banjo-Kazooie, once again, was an underdeveloped little tadpole when he tried. playing this game and as such my memories are very vague. I was really excited to jump into this classic and in choosing to do so I was met with an instant wave of nostalgia as I heard the soft opening banjo melody as these two fools appeared on screen. I didn't get very far due to my schedule and a limited amount of time, but what I played was actually quite fun, sure there was some old console stuff going on, but overall this game was a really good time and I think I'll come back to this sometime.
Banjo Katsui ended up being a blast of nostalgia for me and I'm glad I chose this title to return to after all this time, this was the second game. which I played on the first day when work was a little slow and it was by far the most fun I had playing this console as I had to force myself to put this game down. I gave this a chance because I've always found Fox to be a cool guy and two of the best N64 game lists and videos I referenced in preparation for this video said this game was amazing and holds up incredibly well up to the present day.
I have to say they were right, this was a lot. fun, in fact, it sure has gotten old. I mean, if you're playing games from this period in 2023 and hoping they don't get old, you were just living in a fantasy, but overall I really appreciated the smooth gameplay experience that Star Fox 64 offered. It walked a simple enough line to learn and yet it was extremely challenging at times. I really let my whole team down again and again, sorry Falco, this is where the nostalgia comes in strong for me. I love this game as a kid and while I was playing this with Nadia she unlocked a memory that had been lying dormant in my brain since then, she asked me if I remembered the mini games that were in the Pokémon Stadium and I was like no what do you mean ?
I thought this was just a battle. game for Pokémon and then he said look here are some mini games and then we played Lucky Lucky Sushi Dude when I tell you like a beefy guy up now and back then I played this game a lot and came back to it for the first time in two decades . It made me laugh out loud and Nadia supposedly beat me in a Pokémon battle, but it seems I lost that footage, so I guess we'll never know that this was a game we both really enjoyed and continued playing for most of the week.
Every now and then I feel like this game is a classic and I can only imagine what it must have been like to see Pokémon in 3D for kids in the 90s who had working memory and working brains. Thank you all very much for watching this video. I really appreciate it. your time and just stop by to hang out with me, sorry if I missed some classics. I know I haven't played GoldenEye or Smash Bros or I don't know Pokémon Snap, but I'm totally up for doing this again and I will. Another video if you're interested in just the Nintendo 64.
I plan to move on and do other consoles first, but like I said, a lot of these games will appear on Let's Plays in upcoming streams or reviews if I play them on my own time, so Don't worry, I'll play Golden High, I'll play Smash Bros, I won't play Diddy Kong Racing, sorry, the Nintendo 64 experience, in my opinion, is still a valid and fun way to enjoy video games. and while the games may seem a little wacky now or have some shame in them, that's part of what makes retro games fun. I think it's easy to say yes, the Nintendo 64 will still be a fun experience in 2023, even if it's the only system you have.
Do you think you can survive with just a Nintendo 64 in 2023? Let me know in the comments below, and I'll see you next time.
