Should you Buy the 2022 or Wait for 2023 Asus Pro Art Studiobook Pro 16 OLED

So it's been about a year since I first got the Asus Pro Art Studio Book Pro 16 OLED into my studio for review and I have to say that it's definitely been one of my favorite laptops specifically for creators with the features and functionality it offers. in this video. We're going to talk about some things I love, some things I don't like too much, and then we're going to talk about the different models that are currently available to help you choose the right one for your needs, so we can look at some benchmarks nearby. from the end of the video.

First, something I don't like about this laptop. You heard me complain before. We'll reiterate it for those of you who don't know. You can't click on this trackpad and this gets a little annoying when you want to click and drag something like I want to click and drag this, but if you know my finger is here, okay, let's say I want to click and drag it from here . and then I want to click and drag. Can't. I have to make sure I get the click, you know, and then I can and drag it, so it's kind of an awkward position and it can be a little awkward, especially because a Creator when you're on the move and you're using the trackpad a lot to work, it just doesn't work.

It's my favorite feature. There is a laptop called Lenovo ThinkPad Now these are cool buttons if you're into 3D modeling or know a program where you like to look around an object of some kind, maybe even architectural software, so those buttons are really cool, but I wish they were I could click on the trackpad for other daily uses. Recently Asus announced the

2023

version of the Asus Pro Art Studio Book Pro 16 OLED and it comes with the full size trackpad and the trackpad appears to be clickable, so if that is important to you, like me, I would consider

ing to the Next Generation, the

2023

model, if it's not important and you don't care about the trackpad buttons, then this would be a fantastic model for you to choose now, the next thing I do.

What I don't like is that this substantially underperforms in SolidWorks when using a G-Force RTX GPU which is a gaming GPU; however, as you can see in the benchmark test, if you are looking at Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya PTC Creo and specifically SolidWorks, I can see that the a5000 GPU works very well in SolidWorks and the GeForce GPUs work well in Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya and PCC Creo, but if you are going to use SolidWorks, make sure you get the laptop with the workstation GPU, either an A3000 or an a5000 will be substantially more expensive, but you will get the performance you are looking for.

Now you

know that the latest models with A3000 or a5000 no longer come with the Intel workstation CPU, you can only get the i7 12700h. with that GPU, but if you get last year's model, you can get the workstation CPU, which is what we'll have in the benchmarks later in the video. The third thing I don't like about this laptop is that it is not as bright as I expected. It's about 400 nits at maximum brightness and for an OLED display I'd love to see around the 550 to 600 range, and that's a bit annoying. I wish it was brighter, however the dollar color accuracy is fantastic. see the results of the color accuracy and the range of the color gamut that appear on the screen and it is a very vivid color screen that has very accurate colors and therefore is beautiful to look at, only if you are at sunlight, maybe working outside is not as bright. as expected, now the benefit of it not being as bright it has good battery life being a 16 inch laptop and having a solid performance on the PassMark productivity benchmark, the Xeon processor gets about seven hours of battery life battery, the i712700h achieves about eight hours of battery life and last year's ryzen 9 5900 HX model has about nine hours of battery life, so if you're looking for battery life, I'd go with last year's ryzen model if you are looking for the best performance.

I'd probably lean toward this year's Intel i712700h model, but we'll get into the performance benchmarks in just a minute. Another thing I love about this laptop is the dial. This is not a trick. Well, I've made entire videos about this. Talking about productivity and doing a full review, so if you want to check out those videos, I'll link a playlist at the end that includes my full review of the dial. You can set the size of your brushes. You can change the brushes. You can move around. the timeline there are so many things you can do with this dial its really a boost to productivity its not just a gimmick so i really like the dial now next thing is its thin and light for a powerful 16 inch laptop, I mean the amount of performance that's packed into this chassis is fantastic, now it's not the lightest laptop I've ever owned but it's an RTX 3080 TI in this model and an i712 700h with two upgradeable RAMs and two m.2 slots that are interchangeable now before we get into the performance benchmarks if you are curious about the exact price of all the models currently available on the market and all the different specifications that are available.

It is very powerful and gives you great performance, as you can see, the ryzen 9 5900 HX with the RTX 3070 performs well, but it definitely falls behind in most tests; however, as we move forward in SolidWorks, if you are going to be a heavy SolidWorks User, I would recommend getting the workstation GPU, either the A3000 or the a5000. Now moving on to Photoshop Benchmark you can see that the best Contender would definitely be the i7 12700h and honestly you could get the RTX 3070 TI version or RTX 3080. TI version and you get great performance if you go ahead and get the i712 700h and the RTX 3060.

I would recommend trying to find that laptop with 32 gigs of RAM because that will put you in the thousands to eleven hundred on Photoshop Benchmark. which is a great performance. Photoshop really likes Rams, you could actually get a lower GPU SKU if you're primarily a Photoshop user, know a graphic designer, digital artist or photographer and you could get performance as good as maybe this, you know, RTX 3080. TI version but with a better budget point of view. I think right now on bestbuy.com you can get the i712700h version with the RTX 3060 for around two thousand dollars, which is a substantial savings between the 3070 TI version and the 3080 TI version that now moves to After Effects you can see that a Once again the i7 12700h with the RTX 3080 TI takes the crown.

I think this has a lot to do with that GPU. After Effects really enjoys a powerful GPU for all the graphics processing and also if you were to go ahead and upgrade this to 32 gigs of RAM it would run even better but I think a good middle ground would probably be the i7 12700h with the RTX 3070 TI and 32 gigs of RAM if you want to get the best value for money now go ahead. For video editing, when looking at the 4K export, you can see that everyone is pretty much in the same ballpark: you'll see at most two minutes and 51 seconds on the latest i712 700h and RTX 3080 TI, and even if you choose the 3070 TI or the 3060.

I don't see this laptop beating the three minute export time, so if you're serious about video editing, any of this year's models will work great for 4K playback, 4K export times, and then, as we see, In the 6K export time, you can see that the winner for the 6K export time is actually the i7 12700h and RTX 3080 TI, surprise, surprise, so the 6K export time is definitely the best with that powerful GPU you know. Now lastly, if you look at DaVinci Resolve, you can see that the best export time was the i7-12700h and RTX 3080 TI with 6 minutes and 12 seconds.

Pretty good export time, nothing surprising. I'm never overly impressed with DaVinci Resolve's export times. They have very good playback because the GPU is used a lot. for playback within DaVinci Resolve, export times tend to be a bit slower on most laptops compared to Premiere Pro with that same nine-minute 4K clip within the timeline, now blow for blow , if it were me personally, I would choose last year's ryzen. 9 5900 HX if I'm looking for good battery life I would buy that model with 32 gigs of RAM which will improve Photoshop scores and Premiere Pro playback in general so you can save a bit of money if you go for the from last year. model, but upgrade that Ram to 32 gigs for better in-app performance now.

If I'm looking for the best overall performance, I'll go with the i712 700h and the RTX 3070 TI. I really think the 3070 TI is sufficient, but if you want to prepare for the future then you could go for the 3080 TI, that would be a bit much. I don't need that much performance and it would probably save me four to five hundred dollars, I could use maybe half of that for a RAM upgrade, so tomato tomato I definitely want to make the right choice for you now if you're using SolidWorks absolutely no place to doubts, an RTX A3000 or a5000 is the way to go links in the description if you are ready to make a purchase Like, this video has brought you some value and Subs, if you don't want to miss future uploads, I'll see you here next time .
