Tim Legler dissects the Knicks’ OT win vs. Celtics | SportsCenter

NBA analyst Tim Legler joins us and Tim, what did you see from the Knicks down the stretch in overtime? Wild game because they mostly outscored Boston tonight and then this lead is erased in a short period of time in the fourth quarter, now the Knicks. are five down and I'm going to show you a couple of nuanced things that happened. Boston contributed to it, but it's mostly the Knicks making plays and we'll start right here and this is important because you take a look at the current moment. and score the entire five-point game with two and a half minutes left basically, at this point you're two stops away from winning the game if you're Boston, but look what the Knicks do to execute this.

Jalen Brunson runs a little. fake dribble handoff and the reason he doesn't do it is because he wants to get this shift that will allow him to penetrate now against a bigger defender that Al Horford will be chasing, but watch what happens when he comes in on a weak side on this cut. right here, right there, by Grimes sets up this whole sequence because now Tatum has to punt instead of it being three on three on this side of the court, ultimately it's going to be a two on two situation when Brunson comes out and goes to run a dodge.

He raises his hand and looks here at Robert Williams, who is protecting Randall. He is already targeting Al Horford because he knows this will be a screen and he expects Horford to fight this and come out to the shooter. You're asking for two. the bigs call a dribble handoff for a very difficult three to make, instead Randall gets an open look, a huge shot cuts it to two now that you're within striking distance, but this is the play even more important part of the game and in this Boston contributed. check out SIMS get his rebound this is where the problems start you're on top too there's no reason to stay in the defensive zone right here Max all you're going to do is create numbers that go in the other direction and that's exactly it what happens this ball is going to be passed to Julius Randle and now they are going to run Grimes fills Barrett fills Brunson Phils and the numbers are going in the opposite direction even though Boston has a two-point lead with 37 seconds left .

So as they push this ball, they have numbers. Jason Tatum has a decision to make right here. He will have to stop the ball. You're matched up pretty well with the shooters on the backline, but that means there's one guy left unaccounted for. stop and it's Jalen Brunson when you see Barrett drift towards the corner when this ball comes out now Brogden has to make a decision, he has to come out to the shooter and that means one more pass to the corner an open look for RJ Barrett down two on one In 30 seconds, that was the biggest play of the game, all created by the fact that Boston overreacted in the defensive zone, too many defenders stayed, particularly two bigs who are now going to be late to get back into transition and the Knicks took advantage, this is one of the best wins for the Knicks all season.

All season, absolutely fine, so the Knicks also lost 15 points in this game, in part because Jalen Brunson found a way to get it back. Elite Performance 29 points, which makes it so dangerous. I love it. watching him play every night because he has a higher ceiling than I ever thought he had as an NBA player and he has several different ways of scoring, that's what impresses you, some of them are traditional things, you know, a little bit midway elevation. range, you see a lot of guards doing that in the league, but then he has things where he can get down to the post, shoot these finger moves from weird angles, he likes to post up, get into the paint for a little mid-range drive. he has jump hooks, has some of the best footwork in the league and can always get off the dribble and make threes when he needs to.

He's been on a bit of a heater here for the last month. He definitely deserves an All-Star Spa we'll see if he gets one, you know, can the Knicks get two guys potentially on the All-Star team?
