Finding The Best Fish And Chips In London | Food Tours | Insider Food
Apr 10, 2024with fries without tartar sauce? No way. Not precisely. They shouldn't be. Very good, Joe. Joe: The sun is setting, the candles are getting brighter, so why don't we decide now which is the
best
fish
andchips
in the posh city of London? Harry: You've mentioned a few things that might influence your decision. I am referring, obviously, to the quality of thefish
, thechips
, the tartar sauce. Taking all of these factors into account, of the four we tested today, which was your favorite? I mean, the first one, Poppies, was amazing, but he was the first one out.But they were difficult to beat. I really liked everything about it. The haddock was really good. But then we went to Fishcotheque. Harry: Still good. I was really impressed. I mean, fantastic fish. But their tartar sauce, I mean, they only had the Heinz 57 stuff. They had the stuff packaged. It was like, come on, guys. Little effort on this. But I understand it. Considering every venue was fantastic and we're talking razor-thin margins. That? Who does that service? Who's happy to hear that? There are elements from a lot of the places I liked that I don't necessarily know.
It should count for the fish and chips. I loved Poppies' mushy peas, and this place, this beer-battered skin, and the way they cooked the fish. Fantastic. Oh, their tartar sauce here is so good. But I think Golden Chippy's tartar sauce was better. So if I had to choose, and I know I do, I would choose Golden Chippy. The vibe of get it and go, or walk in and, like a neighborhood corner store. Although we don't have fish and chips places like that in the US, I definitely thought it was more of my incredibly friendly, quick in and out owner vibe.
I like that, because I think it's probably more representative of the average British experience we'll have in a fish and chip shop. I don't even know what the second, third or fourth would be. They are all fantastic. If I went to just one of these when visiting London, I would be very happy. Thin margins. Yes very good. It was great. Harry: Good. I guess that's all. Cheers man. Thank you! Harry: Cheers, man. Yuck! I hate it. Crew: Alright, now you can have a real beer, Joe. Please thanks.
