Why Your Duramax and Cummins Injectors Fail

Apr 29, 2024
Abroad, today we will talk about common rail diesel fuel

injectors

, so I guess

your

most important question is why do they

fail

, what are some common

fail

ure points, what are the causes, what are the possible remedies in case of happen again and if you really look you can find quality versions of these so there have been a few fakes lately oh my chair creaks I'm so sorry about that um let's start with the Piezo so why Would it fail or why does a Piezo injector fail? Normally the fuel will be the culprit for almost any fault that any of these

injectors

encounter.
why your duramax and cummins injectors fail
There can also be mechanical faults that are not fuel related such as a faulty solenoid coil for these electromagnetic injectors, cracks forming in the body, leaks. , you know, essentially, that's what's going to happen to them, um, there could be other problems. Additionally, they will be internal and that is predominantly what we are going to talk about. Let's talk about how to prevent recurring problems from getting you down. Now these injectors should last a long time and with good quality fuel. free of water and free of dirt and contaminants, these things should last over 100,000 miles, so with that being said, the common point of failure will be a good lube fuel that is clean, free of water and free of dirt, so if you get these things they should last a couple hundred thousand miles my truck has 300,000 miles on it and still has the factory OEM injectors so it is possible and you can't get those kind of miles and we have run into a few customers lately.

More Interesting Facts About,

why your duramax and cummins injectors fail...

If you are buying remanufactured injectors and just aren't getting any life out of them now, could it be that something else is causing this problem? Is the product inferior? or there is something rapidly degrading those injectors, so let's talk about water in the fuel. What will water in fuel cause? Water in the fuel will cause rust to form within the system and when the rest reaches the point where the rust granules break down, it has a potential saving grace in the fact that most of these injectors are equipped with a filter that is It's called a rim filter and it's designed if a piece of debris gets in there, it grinds it up with pounds of high pressure fuel until it can pass through the injector.

It will pass through the injector fine. and we make a big wire scar out of it and if you run enough of it through there constantly it will wear out prematurely, that's how it works, that's what Russ does and the only way to get rid of the rust is one of two ways that we have. Here's a solution that we used, that we've mixed, that effectively removes it, removes it and there's also and it won't remove the pits, but it will remove the rust itself and, you know, it goes on. by spreading it kills the cancer, so to speak.

The other way is to replace the part with one that you know from Rusty for one that does not have rust and that is

your

second possibility, but if you can see the rust that is inside, a little small, under high pressure. line no, you can't, you don't know if there's rust there or not, you can. These rails are gun drilled, so you can take a fuel rail and pull out the end fittings and look in and look at the end fittings. you know normally on the back of that fitting rust will start to form so if there's rust there there's rust elsewhere so you know that's the problem there too thirdly like in the piezo failure with the CP4 piece of garbage. bomb you know Bosch has imposed on people what a piece of rubbish it is, it should be a shame you know they are above the road it has a um it has a small key a pin that guides the pusher on the dash I'm let me grab something quick, the cp4 should have it but it doesn't so this is the acp4 pump roller tappet, as you can see it is smooth all the way around, now the over the road counterparts have a groove cut into them. there is a pin that goes through the side of the pump to prevent this thing from rotating in the hole this was designed by morons you know this is a designed point of failure it is designed to fail there is no way around it there is nothing that can stop this thing of turning on the dash, let me take out the camshaft, so you have this little indentation here, this little depression and this little depression, its only purpose is to keep this thing aligned so it fits back into place. alignment once this thing spins in the hole and it will and comes back after about two hits you got a slot cut here this thing will never right itself that's the failure point of these pumps it's it's it's a joke, it's rubbish, it's rubbish and honestly, someone should take their pants off forever, you know, putting this off in front of the public, you know, it's a betrayal, you know what common sense should be, so stop talking about that piece of trash.
CP3 is the best. durable pump that in my opinion real common high pressure pumps have been made, but they also have their problems, we are going to discuss that here, a secondary concern, okay, we have coil electrical failures, we have possible cracks. uh you know something because you know the problem with the relief valve on the six seven LBC and lmm Duramax as a stupid design too, just like some of these other things, you know, if there's nothing wrong with it, don't try it. To fix it, Bosch did that with a two-stage relief valve and now what do people do with those wells?
They put a plug in the rail. Well, what happens when you do that? You can do one of two things: These high-pressure fuel spikes. an internal high pressure seal inside this pump let me get one to show you she has them here and it's a I'm not some kind of plastic I'm guessing it's a ring and it has a metal pressure plate so your high pressure can actually blow this put this seal here this seals the outside against the inside of the injector and the inside seals the control valve the valve head assembly or is it not an assembly you have a control valve and a valve head let me get you one of those, you can see it, so this is your control valve assembly, so you know that the rod, this is the actual valve, it has a little ball that goes in here and then you have a tiny passage.
I've put them in here before and they have a little bit, a piece of red rag, stuck in this hole and then this thing here, loose noodles, no control, the injector opens wide and that's it, the connecting rod comes out of the block from the engine oh look I'm using metal shims remove them so the rail plugs can blow this seal and when it does your system will lose pressure you will lose performance and fuel economy and you know your truck. it's going to be an anchor, so that's a bad look, the second bad look, the pressure increases so much that it actually causes the diameter of this nut to expand and loosen, you know, because it stretches, the threads will loosen. , you can leak fuel from here and There's an O-ring that goes here, so if you have a leak here on the you know, the valve cover covers the injectors and it's under that O-ring, it's going to return the fuel to the tank, you don't even know. but on Duramax applications that just go down to the cylinder head, there can actually be fuel leaks coming out of the cylinder head, you know, the outside of the valve cover, so that's a secondary concern, those Rail plugs are a worse solution to a serious problem, so there you have a problem, so what do we have next?
We have metal-to-metal wire as we were showing you with the CP4 generated by the CP3 bomb. Now, if you see these Flats, I'll show you what they drive here. in a second you see the little bright spot, the wire that has eroded the metal due to abrasion and that metal goes through your injectors and you can get this where the supply pump is which is on the back of the CP3 pump and There are essentially two. metal to metal gears come into contact this flat part of this shaft looks like a giant straight tip screwdriver that goes in here and turns this is a direct shot from your supply pump or do you know if it's a Duramax lb7 or whatever no lift pump it's sucking the fuel out of the tank pressurizing it to a higher level here to make the CP3 pump build pressure so what they did on the last ones this is a later style the old style like lb7 and 5.9 LLY these were two pieces of what appeared to be stamped sheet metal and in my opinion they would let you know that they generated more wear than this piece that appears to be powder metal and is a hardness more compatible with the shaft itself so they designed it so do you know that it potentially causes less wear and tear?
And what they've also done is they've reduced the pressure that these supply pumps have to generate, so they've gone from about 80 psi internal pressure to, you know, the '50s and the side loading of the gears or you know the fact that these are mass produced and not precision machined, they can cause metal to metal contact against this plate. Now, this is anodized aluminum, which is anodized anodizing tank. of aluminum that will be deposited on this and is called hard anodizing. If I took the blade of a knife and tried to scratch it, I would only scratch the blade of the knife.
You see, this is an Allen wrench and it's tough, it won't scratch it, I'm serious. I'll mark it but it won't scratch it because it's as hard as that Allen wrench on the surface, but then in an extreme case you end up looking like this, this is going to the injectors, all this metal is going to the injectors and I think. I was a little unprepared. I'm going to pull what's called the drv valve. No I can not. I already removed the filter, so if I put a drv valve like the one on your piezoelectric systems to control. the pressure at the end of the fuel rail is an actual valve that is designed to control the rail pressure, they have these little tiny filters that we actually use to test our CP3 pumps, you know, when we're actually testing, you know the pump without Using Improv, you know, to generate, maintain pressure, we use those things after just trying a couple of pumps, they get covered in metal, you take it out and it looks like a porcupine with metal all over it.
I'm talking again. Pumps generate metal, so here's the deal: your injectors are going to fail, one of two reasons: it will be a mechanical defect, which is quite rare, or it will be due to metal, water or dirt in the fuel, which is the only one. Which is going to cause them to fail or abuse too much pressure, so what I want to tell you is that you have to be careful with your fuel system and probably one of the worst things that actually happened is that this became affordable to the consumer. and some of it started to be counterfeited to the point that any Tom Dick or Harry is installing these things and even some of the dealerships are having problems.
There is no one who is incapable of making mistakes. We all experience failures at some point. and if you don't think you are, you haven't really looked at yourself very carefully, you know that we are all sinners, we have all missed the mark and we do even in the things that we sometimes do better, so it is possible that If you leave a little piece of dirt somewhere and it gets into one of these injectors, it's going to mess it up, there's no way around it, that's the point. I'm trying to let you know that you have the human factor involved here and then do you also know that we are dealing with a falling world where you know that things are just not going to last, there will be rust, there will be thorns and thistles in your life, that's the way it is. things, but there are things we can do to protect ourselves from this, you know if we have the wisdom, the knowledge and the understanding of what can happen here and we realize that if we simply replace a set of injectors expecting a different result and We have rust in our system, you know, we have water in our fuel, we have other contaminants, we have a CP3 pump, so you know, it really creates a ton of metal and sends it through the injectors if you don't.
I know you don't know this, but if you're armed with the understanding of what can happen with these bombs now, this was just an original high mileage bomb, so if we're armed with the possibility of what can happen, you know, then we will be I'm going to investigate further why mine went wrong, why mine failed and my main purpose is to educate people. I don't want to see people waste their money and their time and, you know, end up expecting a different result than what they expected. We're going to get Insanity to do the same thing twice expecting a different result, it's not going to happen folks, and you know these knockoff injectors that you can buy counterfeit in China that cost $100 each on Amazon.
Those things are nothing but garbage. It's not a real Bosch injector, it's a Chinese fake, they made it look the same. Here we have things that I would trust as an OEM and it is a counterfeit, they even fooled us on the packaging. and those things just won't last, believe me, I fell under the spell of that too and bought it knowing better, well here's a bad one for fifty bucks, well they got them for 19 bucks, now the fuel control actuator they got that stuff . Cheap now and you can't tell them apart. I mean, if you really bend down and start measuring, you have two or threeelements, yeah, you can tell them apart then, but I'm telling you they've counterfeited these things and you know the Cummins five nine that you can get for like $500 a set with the cross tubes, you can take those cross tubes and bang them on the table and chips of metal, it's garbage, you can't buy the parts to rebuild the injectors for the price they sell a complete injector for and you tell me it's quality and you know you're buying.
I've read those reviews, you know, and it's like you know three out of five, well, my truck runs fine. 10 minutes my truck wouldn't even start. I was driving mine and the next thing I knew it started knocking and I came out and I had a big hole in the side of the engine block, that's what a hundred dollars will get you. injector don't expect to get anything different. I mean, it's silly to think you know what $250 to $300 should cost. You can get it for a hundred dollars. It sounds too good to be true. It's not a myth, friends, it is too.
Good to be true If it sounds too good to be true it's because I'm a consumer and believe me, that happens to me. I buy things, well it seems like a really good deal, sometimes you get something at a really good price, but you have to be very careful about what you're getting and what I'm trying to tell you is disguised is like the word truth is disguised today They want to hide it you know and oh it looks just the way it looks it's in the blue bag and it says Bosch on the box and 100 a piece I wish it were like that, you know, I wish it were true and I was, you know, one of the few that knew it, that's not the case at all and it's really scary.
They know if they can do this and they hold it in their hand and they can hold two next to each other and they can't really tell them apart. What can you do with other things so that some of you understand the path I'm taking? The truth has become something dark and you know the truth is subjective, you know it's in the eyes of the beholder, that's not a subjective truth, that's not a real truth, so listen, be careful, I'm not trying to Don't let anyone send me anything. I'm just trying to educate the consumer. You know, if you're doing the same thing expecting a different result, isn't that crazy?
We don't do the same thing twice expecting a different result. You know, Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Pete kept trying. The same thing over and over again, I would never have made it and it's not about how many times you didn't make it, it's like you know you finally hit the right combination, you know the right material and the right type of gas, you know how to load. that light bulb to work, you know, so they're not failures, there's usually only one path to success, we have to really consider it, so if you have questions, if you have comments, you know, keep it clean. they are down there in the comments and you know we will do our best to answer them answer your questions and you know maybe there are other videos that you would like to see and you have questions but this is the reality I mean I have nothing hidden in What I've told you, it's all true and I hope there's something in there that's beneficial to you and well, thanks for watching, I hope you have a good day.
