Tommy Elliott helped me build my law career, he helped me become governor, he gave me advice on how to be a good father, he is one of the people I talk to the most in the world and very rarely. what we're talking about my job he was an incredible friend we also lost Julianna farmer Jim Tutt Josh Barrett each incredible people whose families mourned them whose community will mourn and miss them these are irreplaceable incredible individuals suffered a terrible act of violence ripped away from us all We also pray for our lmpd officer and two others who at this time, although perhaps stable, are still fighting for their lives in need of our care and yes for our prayers because I believe, believe and believe that prayers lift us all up. and those families would appreciate them and while I heard today, while I will cry when I can, I'm also grateful, I'm grateful for an incredibly quick response from lmpd, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Louisville Fire and Rescue, Louisville Metro, EMS. to this scene in three minutes I am convinced to tell other people's lives and I know how to tell two other of my friends what I received incorrect information this morning I thought he was gone and I started to cry and now I know that he is fine and what I could seeing in the emergency room that while it will take a while for him to heal, it is very good to see my friend see him there with his wife and know that he is still with us.

I was in a room where one of those families who are legitimately concerned received an update and it was specific but also given with compassion. These doctors and nurses are fighting for the lives of our family friends and we are deeply grateful. For them, I think what we need most right now, in a word, is love. I mean, just love. Love for these families. They will need it. I can tell you that I have spoken with them. I am very close to one of them. We are going to need that love and we need love for each other.
We seem to argue a lot in this country. So much anger. I still believe that love, compassion and humanity can take us to a better place. Now this is difficult. The day is very difficult. after Easter Now Easter is about a rebirth, a better world, one where we are all supposed to work together to get there, one that is supposed to teach us the love of a savior who came. I will fall in love with them not for their power but for their compassion and I believe that what we can do, whether by faith or simply by their values, is ensure that today more than anything is about these families, those families who fear losing their loved ones, those who have gone through it. the worst and even if they have survived they will bear the scars inside and out today it has to be about them the heroic actions of all those who responded and yes, I know in the next few days we will talk about problems, but I think the thing that People make mistakes after the most difficult moments and days and as governor I have had to see many of them.
Today should we focus well, my friend, and on everyone else's friends and loved ones who are no longer with us? Faith teaches me that while the body is mortal, the soul is eternal, so I know I will see Tommy again and I know that all these families and friends in this community we will meet in a better place, without files, without the senselessness and the pain. that today we feel that we will get through this together, it is the only way we will march forward in My hope is that in honor of those who have fallen today or who may yet fall, we can be better and we can do better. worry about loving each other a little more today, to honor those who have fallen and ask so many families to grieve.

I have seen it first hand. What they are doing is incredible. Listen. I know they will do the best they can, and while we don't know what the outcome may be, we should be grateful. so for doing the best you could, thank you very much for that, as reported this morning, the University of Louisville Hospital received nine patients, three of whom are currently in critical condition, the three who are in critical condition required surgical care and from our trauma team and our emergency department services we were able to discharge three and three are still currently in our hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
I want to thank Louisville as a city. I want to thank our police officers and our emergency medical services. I have no doubt that they save lives today. I think they, like many in the healthcare industry, have been through a tough time recently, but they have stood up and stood up for Louisville and the people of Louisville. constantly and have our thanks from U of L Health. I also want to thank my nurses in the emergency department, my doctors in the emergency department, through all of this they remained the professionals that they are, they were able to care for a large number of people who came in seriously injured in a period of very short time we were able to get them to the services they need and so far no one has come to the hospital they have expired now I don't know what the next few days will be, I do know that they are still injured, but I also know that we are all those billions and it doesn't matter Where we come from, no matter who we come fromLet's see, we are all part of Louisville lmpd EMS uofl health, we are here for everyone and so I would like to thank everyone who helped us today I would like to thank all the well wishes I have received both personally and from our healthcare system from around the country, support for people who have been through this throughout the country and know the pain. that my team is currently facing, know the pain that Lmpd and EMS teams are currently facing and you will be with us because, once again, we are all billions.
I want to thank you all again for what you do for us every day, we are a wonderful and integral part of this city and I'm proud to be a part of uofl Health and I'm proud to be a part of uofl Hospital um so with that, thank you and I will hand it over for questions. Thank you very much Dr. Smith. Are you prepared to answer some questions from the media. I think everyone who had surgery today is still sedated. No one is currently awake, but it's still very early in this process for a lot of that information.
Really, the next 24 hours for everyone involved in this that required an operation. This will be the critical time period for us to really understand how well they are going to recover from this acute part of their overall care. They have a long road ahead of them, but if we can get through it in 24 hours, then we'll take it. another 24 hours and we will continue doing this until they leave the hospital. The average person means gunshot wounds can be considered non-life threatening. In this case, yes, they may have gunshot wounds that are not life-threatening. If we had treated a total of five gunshot wounds today at this scene, one officer was shot in the head and you finally hear that he is stable for now, but leave your thoughts there, that is one of the worst moments within the mandate of any police officer.
In this position, hearing that one of his officers has been injured in any way, but seriously injured, but it also bothers me and shakes my world that someone gets hurt and loses their life, so it's really me. I have a lot of respect for the families because they were still present and we are very grateful for what was done and how Lmpd responded today and they were actually hugging me while I was hugging them, but let me say this, the evil that took place today: I shouldn't listen the tears that came from these families and that remain right there because they are crying because someone decided that they wanted to take their life today and so on, but with that I am very grateful and hopeful and I am grateful. to the doctor for stabilizing so many people who could have possibly lost their lives that is a gun what exact type of gun was used and where the shooter died if you know that at this point I don't know if the shooter got the gun but I can only say it was a rifle used as I mentioned earlier about what happened inside the weapons

building

before the shooting this morning.
I repeat that again. Can you talk more about what happened inside the Bank building before the shooting again? This is an ongoing investigation and again, as the governor has said, we want to focus on the families that we want to focus on right now, what happened and as this investigation continues to develop, we will be able to reveal a little more if those things are going to be deleted and was communicating on Instagram before this incident. I will say this that the suspect was live streaming and unfortunately, it's tragic to know that that incident was there and he was captured, so we are hopeful that we can have that incident.
Has this shooter's home been searched in this case? Have you discovered something that manifests itself in things? It's still ongoing within this investigation that's still developing, so I don't want to go into any additional details at this time. meets with the Departments, a hidden tax, as I understand it at this time, on a preliminary basis, that may change, but as I understand it, we have not had any prior engagement with this individual, he worked at Old National Bank, so I assume at this time that he was a citizen of Louisville. and they want to go into detail about that part of the investigation, but again it's ongoing so I respect your questions bay turquoise yes yes thank you yes thank you yes boss my shopping list yes sir yes sir I'm not familiar with any other additional security with that within the location, but again let's focus on this initial incident right here, where we received a quick and timely response and stopped the threat so that no additional loss of life could occur.
