Continental Mark III Sitting For Years Will It Run? + El Camino Last Leg - NNKH

eccentric here, we'll call it whatever, but it's supposed to. to lift and open these points and they weren't opening at all, so I'm going to make a quick adjustment, the whole engine almost jumped out of the car, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was looking back at the rear wheels because this is where it came from. I lifted this high holy smoke to break the engine mounts, yeah I think those rear wheels are probably locked, I also leaned my head back to see if something was going on in the rear, well here's the deal guys, It's getting late and I wanted to take Jen out for a few beers and dinner later, so Ghana gave up on this for now, obviously,

have to hit the brakes to loosen them, the engine mount, clean the carburetor, They take off the cover, they get a gasket. kit whatever the case, a lot of little things, but I think we're going to move forward with this and here's the good news: it's for sale here in Texarkana, Texas, not in Arkansas, because you know that's too much the state line, I think that's where we are.

I'll leave it, I guess I'll just lean the tire back against here to close the door and keep it sealed, but yeah, she's definitely a good girl and I could see this thing sailing towards Las Vegas, certainly worthy of being fully restored, uh could. you find a cleaner, better one you know for 10 grand eight grand Seven Grand idle I don't know what they sell these things for you know better than me so I want to thank you again for watching this video and joining me. with me in the Mark III Adventure Lincoln Continental check out the well pump with adjustable counterweights pumping somewhere yeah I saw some tanks cross the road down the street so that's what's flowing from here oh wow it's really hot in the outlet and you see that our pressure gauge fluctuates between 50 and 80 psi.

I don't want that to blow up in your face, yeah, we're leaving Texas Arcana now. I gave the Lincoln a hard go, it was just hard, but with the brakes, tires and everything else locked up, it just didn't work. It doesn't seem like a good idea to trade in the trusty Old Hope, uh, so yeah, the rest of this video

be driving home, it'll be Arkansas all day Arkadelphia, it's a great place to call home, oh, today we drove 275 miles and we We checked into the Memphis KOA. Gus likes the grass running, but we're right next to the highway so Jen likes the background noise.

I'm biased, there are also freight trains that pass right by there, but yes, we came here. We could upload the video tomorrow, however the Wi-Fi is absolutely garbage, so we'll probably go to Memphis tonight to see what's going on there and maybe get better Wi-Fi service. Look at Kermit, what kind of frog he is. I'm not going to lie, the Knight hasn't gone well, it's 2:30 a.m. m., we're in Memphis, we spent a lot of tonight running around trying to find Wi-Fi to upload tomorrow's video, uh, Wi-Fi has been horrible, but I found decent Wi-Fi here, so we parked out front, there's El Camino, we're doing 25 megabits per second, but then we ran into some guys standing out here and now we're hanging out, we go down for a walk by Gus. man so he could poop in the street and, yes, a bad night turned into a decent night.

I think everything happens for a reason: we met some of the best people I've ever had to run into with the kind of security he kicked me out of before. and now when I saw it, I thought, man, now I have a car, man, that was fun. Good morning from Memphis KOA next to the highway. I stayed here

night. He has a way of going to bed until 5am. m., but yeah, go pack. I hit the road and hopefully at least six hours today, maybe I'll get to Knoxville or somewhere. I must say it was a little comforting to sleep

night with the trucks running.
It was a nice, quiet sale. A pleasant experience. I had the BK lounge today. She gave us hats and she also gave Gus a little hat. Wasn't she the nicest lady in the world? She said we're all royalty here. China, you can't even have the option of crossing the Loosahatchee River foliage here to get better. Go further east, check this out, we've got some traffic here in Nashville, it's the only way we can trim this little guy's nails. I have you, otherwise I will never leave us. I hate you guys, when is this road trip going to end?
We just posted that part 3 video this morning and thank you all so much for all the positive comments with Jen singing and it's the full video and yes, thank you so much to all of you who left donations. They know their money usually goes to the pumps here or to get a decent meal. hotel room, but then there were a lot of comments saying this is E85 mixed with gasoline and I thought that at first, but then I thought, well, they say E85 can be mixed with gasoline, no problem, but then there was one or two. comments saying that with gasoline, when moisture gets into the tanks in the ground, that will cause the ethanol to separate and anyway, what we're going to do now is fill up some of this Flex Fuel, the hair will put there. carrying a case of beer uh so this has a minimum of 51 ethanol up to 83 and we're going to mix half and half and see if they separate now while we were driving this actually leaked so there really isn't that much I left it here, but I'm going to drain what's at the bottom and save the rest to start fires later and just for Giggles I moved away from the bombs, uh, I do one more burn test on this sample of ethanol and and we'll see that it doesn't rise like the gasoline oh oh yeah no, I didn't see water burning in that, so again gasoline is a lot more volatile than this and the way it burns is so clean, yeah, I'll just go, uh, not a lot of corn fuel, look how clear it is.
I don't have experience with 85, but yeah, it smells, it has a very big alcohol smell and then we'll put a little bit of 87 in there and see if they separate and yeah, those two mixed really well, they didn't even mix, let's see what happens if we shake it, how it looks, it's not all cloudy like before, so that verifies that there was moisture in the bad feeling that we had and that caused the ethanol to separate and the case that we had, so things at the bottom are still They were flammable, it was just pure ethanol and it didn't work for the carburetor, if that's all it's mixed with gasoline, you know it's still going to burn and you probably won't.
I even noted that it might cause poor running, but I'll check again later. I should probably put it in a better one. I guess the double tank would be a safer BET reaching the Appalachian Mountains from Texarkana, about 400 miles later we ended the night in Farragut Tennessee I'm probably going out Saturday night, but I wanted to show you that this hasn't been separated into absolute, so it definitely confirms that I will go ahead and pour this before we leave tomorrow. I'm sure it'll work fine, uh, going down the road mixed with the gasoline, you know, as long as it's mixed, it's fine if it separates the problem you had.
I turned on a timing light let's go ahead and check the timing on this real quick uh just cleaned up the timing

mark

s hopefully you can see the Deep V is at top dead center and then two degree increments before that the top dead center drops. I was reading the base timing online with the vacuum advance disconnected at the distributor I'm going to go ahead and plug it in, this should be four degrees before top dead center at idle, so we have our Island vacuum hose disconnected, the check light timing connected to the battery, the inductive pickup on the number one spark plug wire and then We'll see what that is, you guys probably can't see it, but it's dead four degrees short of top dead center and with that verified I can reengage the advance , bring the mechanical advantage of RPM is working correctly, it should be moving up. at 32 degrees before top dead center, probably around 3000 RPM or so, normally I would have done full timing if you have an adjustable timing light, but you know this is the basic Bare Bones, I give you a list there, but like I said I pulled out the fuel bolts a lot more than I think they should so the next thing I wanted to check is later when I get home I take the carburetor out and check the vacuum leaks under it and that's how I sprayed carburetor. sprayed, it doesn't change anything, but it has an EGR block off plate that I showed you before and I'll take it off and make sure, like you didn't know, it's almost like the EGR is left open, this is what it looks like. for me it says EGR blocking plate here, what is popper, see how it looks.
I don't see how anything could be wrong or there's just a flat plate covering a couple of holes, but let's look anyway, yeah, so it's in pretty bad shape. I don't know which side is the exhaust side. I guess I would assume that one since it's all full of carbon, but yeah, I guess I could see that it doesn't seal perfectly. Try covering the holes with the glove and we'll see which one gets absorbed. this is the escape side we heard right, so the escape side is this side, the sharks actually seem to be running almost more, yeah it's one of the same ones, but I guess we'll reseal that plate and see you tomorrow, maybe i can make some air and fuel screws. get all my bitch out now I'll probably stop right away oh okay actually we're going to get sucked into the engine oh yeah that was pretty reckless not that it's going to be I mean it would have burned in there and out Of that, how well You can see here, but yes, someone had a meeting and definitely some EGR was being passed.
See the square and it was going through the round hole there, so I'm going to get rid of that joint completely and there we go, this big. scraped grease gasket uh of course if I put this on with nothing it will definitely have a vacuum leak it's like maybe a squeal. I'll use Right Stuff silicone for now until I can get something else to replace it, but you saw that. another gasket was falling apart and in case you weren't clear on how it worked, normally you would screw an EGR valve in here and that would measure the connection between this exhaust port and the intake port, so obviously if that thing went It would be open, I mean.
You would have a massive intake leak that would go unnoticed, but I don't think we would have a huge one, but you know, I'll seal it back up for now using the right thing. We'll see, we'll let it set up. I'm using the e-bike for transportation tonight, but the other thing I adjusted was actually a suggestion from a viewer who left a comment about checking the choke vacuum actuator. I don't know what it's called, but the way this choke works. It's when the engine cools down there's a thermal spring here that closes the choke completely so when you start cold it could stay closed or once this little port gets sucked in you pull this out and depending on how it's adjusted , it will open.
I was actually opening the choke about too much so I adjusted the screw that way when the flap is closed and cold in the morning and when this comes out of vacuum it can't change that flap, we'll see if that helps. cold start tomorrow, magic cycle coming up, stop at Smoky Mountain Brewery here we had a free dinner at General Mom and Dad thanks to mom and dad's parents using their points next afternoon, let's see if this starts better I'm going to stomp three times the pedal and just turn it, we'll close the choke all the way now yeah, look at that, no, oh, everything's fine there, pedal again and then I'll go up the RPM, yeah, so now I just probably need to do an idle adjustment high there, but that problem is fixed, so many thanks to the guy who commented on checking that on the Philly choke mechanism solves the problems before I just hit the pedal a few times. get the accelerator pump but yeah the choke chuck was opening too early before and one dimension redoing the EGR kit didn't change anything with the idle.
I still have those air and fuel screws out, it's about seven turns on each to be able to idle it, something is definitely going on with that carburetor, but we're going to use a can of Berryman's B12 per your recommendation, so It's an ounce for every gallon we have, I don't know the half. tank right now we'll just enrich it a little bit and then we'll use two cans for this today. I don't think that's going to fix anything, but certainly with the bad gas we had there before, that will help get rid of it. any moisture left in the tank or anything, this is advertised as a fuel injector cleaner, but they know this is what they want you to try.
I normally use meerschaum, it's a cleanser so we'll use that, yeah we were originally going to go to Asheville today, but I think we decided to tag 81 and start climbing. I mean, the foliage down here is so incredible that we headed off 81 onto The Lonesome Pine Trail, we'll take it to Greenville and then to Johnson. In the Tennessee town of Greenville, we ended up going a little further south, uh, toward Hot Springs. I imagine we crossed into North Carolina and these mountains before us are quiteThey also like to listen to her sing and, with luck, maybe one day the right person will hear her. that and uh, I don't know what anything could result in her career because she deserves it, that's no nonsense, knowledge here, thanks for taking care of our crying girl, thanks waitress too, yeah.
