now, before we get into that, let's get the obvious out of the way, but I don't have to answer a ton of things in the comments. I don't mind answering things in the comments, but I think I can delete a bit right now. I've made the switch to Vic Firth, so it's been a long time for this to be something that isn't about a club specifically. I wasn't saying that I wanted to leave one company and go to another to have better clubs.

In fact, I think everyone who is making clubs right now is making fantastic clubs. This is something I wanted to work on with Vic Firth in education. grow education and I wanted to partner with someone who has been doing it for a long time and is doing it at an extremely high level and I think in our industry there is no one better than Vic Fur now in terms of the model that I will play. It's called aj1 despite what my wife wants to think it doesn't mean amber johnston, one means american jazz and has a 5b grip, but then it has a very long taper and actually gets very thin towards the top, which which causes me to stick with just flying off the

three

-in-one cut

builder

is because it's about developing three skill sets at the same time, all within one exercise, that's a good thing, so first of all, It involves rudiments.
three in one chop builder drum lesson
We will use two different rudiments, the paradiddle diddle, which is a grouping of six notes of two singles and two doubles right left right right left left and it will involve the single paradiddle, which consists of two singles and a double right left right right, like this that that is the first thing that involves rudiments and multiple rudiments. The second cool thing about this is that it involves multiple subdivisions, so we're not stuck in one subdivision if that were a big exercise, but instead we're always in the same subdivision. This is going to cause we have to predetermine and subdivide and think, okay, I'm going to go from a subdivision which will be sixteenth note triplets one and one and two and two and three and three and four and four and straight to thirty second notes one e and one one e and two e and two and three e and three e and a fourier and a fourier then obviously when the exercise is over, we'll have to go back to those sixteenth note triplets, so let's start from a specific subdivision or velocity index in relation to the pulse and then we're going to jump up to 30 second notes and then when that part of the exercise is done, we have to go back down, so the second part is The really cool thing about this is that we're working on multiple subdivisions and the third part and This is my favorite thing.
three in one chop builder drum lesson
I try to make sure that every exercise that I personally use has this, it goes from the right hand and does everything and then there's a solo version for the left hand right after that, so we're getting the same amount of work on both hands and that's always it's great so here's the exercise two paradiddle diddles like sixteenth note triplets one and one and two and two and uh followed by two more paradiddle diddles exactly the same movement but a little faster like 30 second notes three e and three and four rein then we do a single paradiddle right left right right which will give us fourienda and we finish, so everything follows one and a one and two and two and three e and three e and four b and four e and poop and just as we promised, now we can do everything again starting with our left hand, see if you just trick yourself into getting excited about starting with your left hand, then it won't be a big deal, so just to recap, we have two paradiddle diddles like 16 without triplets followed by two paradiddle diddles like 32nd notes followed by a single paradiddle like 30 second notes and then we start everything with the left hand, let's take this very slow 50 beats per minute now let's subdivide first predetermine what it's going to sound like one and a one and a two and a two and a three and a three and and a four e and a four and a one and a one and a two and a two here we go ready, let's go to the left and yes, you have to do this with me three e and a three and a four e and a four e and a one finished one and a two and a two and a three and a three and a joined together now obviously I don't want you to think of paradiddle diddles as 16 non-triplets in 30 seconds of oatmeal and then a single paradiddle that is not What should be going through your head eventually at the beginning?
Yes, of course, I have to communicate this information to you and this is how I will do it, but eventually it's just a sound, da da, da, da, da, da, do this. slow over and over again and just wait until suddenly you know how people say I learn by ear, well wait until your ear grabs and says oh we know what this is, it's dang da dang dang da ding second kind second ticket took me a second, I know the golden tempo on this one is 100 bpm, twice as fast as what you learn now, that can take a while, okay, even if it takes a year, so keep this in mind.
To do it at 100 bpm, imagine how much better your hands will get if you just knock off one bpm at a time. I'm taking off my bracelets for this because I don't want anything to get in my way, Johnny Depp. go there, okay, it's a cookie, here we go one, two, three, four, hmm, okay, you guys don't understand, I'm doing my best to do this exercise, but Juno is down here and when I look up Downstairs, she's just licking it. kibble and bits and I can't, I say come on girl, trying to work here gah, no parent should see that, now on a serious note, he works on this and then thinks about how you're going to use it.
You are going to use it as a filling, are you going to put it on an ostinato with your feet? But you have to do something with it. Also in the comments below let me know what the hardest part of this was for you. I can tell you right now. The hardest part for me isn't the speed, I have decent hands, it's actually going from the 30 second notes and slowing down back to the 16th note triplets, that's what I always have to be thinking about, like hey Hey, put on the brakes. johnston now I also want to make something very clear: this is an advanced exercise, so if you're someone who's only been playing for a few years or you've never spent much time on the deck or your hands and you're thinking I can't do this, I can't even do this at 50 bpm, don't panic, check out mikeslessons.com and we have a ton of hand speed courses for you and each one graduates you from one exercise to the next. from one side to the next you're not just floating around youtube trying to find practice pad lessons.
