NASA Is Bringing Supersonic Planes BACK
Apr 30, 2024unique plane, is very dedicated just to this demonstration, to show that we can make a plane that is capable of low-boom
supersonic
flight." So NASA is building theirsupersonic
plane in the hopes that the advances they make one day they may translate into supersonic commercial passengerplanes
that can carry more people... but when? When will you and I be able to fly on one? When will supersonic passenger flights finally return? It's not soon enough! But first we will review the regulation process. "It will take several years to test this aircraft, then test it in communities, and then go through the regulatory process." So it looks like we are at least a decade away from seeing theseplanes
, and the companies' claims Like Boom, have set a goal ofbringing
their planes to market by the end of this decade, but the industry seems so confident that this is going to happen that three airlines have already placed orders for their supersonic planes.A while ago, we set out on a journey to go. faster than sound, because as humans we love to go fast, we work very hard for it! We build these beautiful machines that launch us through the air. But the promise of supersonic flight is much more than just being extremely. Great. Throughout history, being able to go further and faster has meant greater connection. When our world shrinks in size, it means that we, as humans, can go further. to explore more. And today we have the opportunity to take another step forward. It will be our second attempt, but the good thing about this is that we can fix what we know went wrong.
Allowing supersonic flight over land is only the first step. New supersonic aircraft must be more sustainable. They can no longer consume fuel like before. They will have to be cheaper. They must be able to accommodate more than a single passenger. But we can do this. "It's been 20 years since Concord last flew and I truly believe there will be another supersonic aircraft offering supersonic travel to the general public in the not-too-distant future." "The future is so bright and so attainable. I know it sounds like a cliché, but you can see it!" "That's really exciting." "Really is." "Huge if it's true!" "Huge AND true." Well, I want to show you one more thing.
My grandfather passed away a few years ago and I miss him very much. In fact, he worked for NASA in the 1960s and while we were going through his stuff we found this pin of his. I've been keeping him close while researching this episode. And at the end of our visit to see this plane, NASA gave me this! And now I have my own pin and it really means a lot to me. So thank you for watching this episode and thank you very much to NASA.
