This I Believe: The Little Things

Mar 19, 2024
I

believe

in the

little

things

because it is so easy to get caught up in our busy everyday lives. Get away from the rush to get to work and the stress of the time that passes between now and 5 minutes ago or 1 month ago. Take a moment to pause for no one but yourself and see what makes you happy. We often don't realize how much of a difference the

little

things

make. I

believe

in chocolate chip pancakes when my mom puts extra chocolate chips in them because she knows that's how I like them, even if she accidentally burns the side.

I know she's trying and that's what really counts. I believe in the ability of a single phrase to alter someone's entire day, like when Frankie walks in and says hello beautiful in a voice that effortlessly resonates through the door and down the hallway. I'll tell you he never fails to put a smile on my face. I believe in the ever-faithful wag of my dog's tail as he waits for me to come home after a long day of being happy for no other reason than that I'm walking through the front door and the way winter sunsets envelop the sky in an explosion of flames and a color palette that I can't even begin to describe with these blacks. and white words colors that make me think of a purpose greater than all of us and how microscopic we are compared to the size of the universe but how massive we are compared to the tiny grains of sand that slip between my fingers.

I believe in sitting around for hours, talking endlessly about nothing and everything. Conversations about college and tortilla chips that then lead to spontaneous adventures. The car is full and the music is loud and we are loud and we just don't care we are free of responsibilities and limits and we are oblivious to the limits set by adults with fixed salaries and wrinkled pants these last months before college these car trips Adventures Sandy feet these hot summers Pies
