How I used MY DOLLAR TREE WOOD HOUSES | DIY DOLLAR TREE FARMHOUSE Home Decor | Krafts by Katelyn

Hello and welcome back to Kaitlyn Castle. I'm so excited you're here today. If in your new year, make sure you're subscribed and give this video a big thumbs up if you enjoy it, so I bought some of those log house shadow boxes. A while ago everyone went crazy and I hadn't done anything with them yet, but I wanted to hurry up and do something with these before it was too late. I really hope they restock them because this looks like something really fun that you can wear for fall or Christmas as I really hope I can get more.

I really thought I bought four of these. I even went back to my Dollar Tree haul and tried to see how many I found. I think there are only three in that video, but I think I mention that I thought I bought four, so I'm not sure if I really got four if I thought I bought four and ended up with three on my Dollar Tree haul. those

I got a lot of comments about how I should write the word

in those boxes and it was a really cute idea and I thought that's what I would do and I never came up with the fourth one so I just wanted to go ahead and see what I could do using all three of them and this is just a cute little idea that I wanted to bring to all of you and this is not a very long video.

I will be using three of these log

from Dollar Tree and they come in six different varieties but I want to look for a few more, like I said before my Dollar Tree had them for a short period of time and they disappeared very quickly so I hope they get more .

en signs from Dollar Tree and I honestly wish I had left this the same, so if you make this, know that you can leave it alone. as it is it would be a lot easier and a very quick DIY if I had left it as it was originally but anyway for the DIY I went ahead and changed it so I'm going to go ahead and show you how I fixed it and but I'm using some my chalk paint really white and for some reason it just popped up on this sign, it's super thin.

I think my brush was a little wet, so I had to apply several coats to cover this, so in between each coat. Instead of waiting for it to dry, I always like to share with you all that I love using my hair dryer, I just buy a super cheap little hair dryer that I can use in my craft pile and it makes things go a lot faster. especially when I'm filming these DIYs so after it was completely dry I wanted to put everything together and then I

used

a little bit of this, a boat flap or white barn

wood

paper from Hobby Lobby and this is only fifty nine cents a pop sheet. and I bought this on sale so it was even cheaper than that but I wanted to cover the very colorful background so this would fit into my

farmhouse

decor

.

The first thing I'm going to do is just trace these houses on the back of the paper and cut it out to fit these little houses. I had to keep cutting this out to make it fit snugly in the house, but after I liked it I

used

it as a little template to trace and cut. The other house I was in I didn't close that one and then of course I'm just repeating that for the small little bigger house I couldn't get the newspaper to cover one hundred percent of the background so I was nervous. about gluing this down and letting some of the bright colors shine through, so I ended up taking a little bit of my white chalk paint just to go around the edges and make sure it wasn't white and you couldn't tell the paper was too short in some areas .

I'm using Mod Podge to stick the paper inside these houses and I just made a nice thick layer inside the house and then laid out my paper and then added another layer on top of the paper after. dried, I went ahead and added a second coat just to make sure they were sealed well on the back and none of the corners were peeling off. I'm already seeing DIYs with these houses for Halloween, Fall, and Christmas, and they are beautiful. but I love them so much that I wanted to be able to incorporate them into a project that I could use all year round, so I love the

farmhouse

look they give, but I also thought it would be cool to make them personalized. so I needed a little wooden heart and this little sign with a heart from Dollar Tree worked perfect so it has a little stake that I was able to remove the heart and the glue came off and I wanted to put that in the center of the house and I thought It would be really nice to make them personal by adding our established status.

I wanted to write the word family on this sign so I thought it would be cool to add what year my family was established. I really like the natural wood color on the exterior of the houses, but I didn't like this orange wood tone in the heart, so I decided to take some of my mineral color chalk paint in Waverley Chalk Paint and I still get a lot of questions about this. I just bought mine at Walmart and I love using chalk paint alone because I feel like I get a lot more coverage and it takes a lot less coats to cover my projects, so to add the date set there I'm going to use one of my painter pins .

I love to mix in my Sharpie paint markers and these painter's paint markers that come from Walmart and are very good quality. I love them and they are perfect for writing. little details like this so I just write this and then my husband and I got married in 2010 we actually just celebrated nine years so it was very exciting and I love the little seam around everything so I thought I would give it a lot. extra detail just to put this little seam around this heart. I ended up gluing the heart to the centerpiece and thought it was so pretty there that I ended up using some of these eucalyptus leaves from Walmart.

These are only a couple of

s and this is a really good quality floral so I recommend buying it at Walmart instead of getting the greenery from Dollar Tree but I thought it's so pretty it adds some warmth and I definitely would. made it look more like a farm by adding some of that greenery to the sides. a Dollar Tree has some pretty little fall flowers, but I thought these little cream colored flowers would add a little different color tone and they definitely look like something that could be skipped all year and then the next. The sign at the bottom was just bright white and stood out because the white paper and the background of the houses actually have a great distressing effect so I just wanted this to blend in so I'm using some of my chalk elephant I paint and I just try to empty my brush as much as I can and go over that sign to give it a little bit of angst and then like I said before, I wanted to add the word family and I still really like it. what it is like, but you definitely could have left a sign as it was every time I bought it and Dollar Tree also has a couple different options if you wanted to use something else.

I really thought this would look really cute in black so I decided to use it. part of my Apple Barrel painting. I really like the Apple Barrel paint on small projects like this because it has a thinner consistency and covers these small pieces of wood really well, but I ended up painting them all black and then heat painting them. gluing them back onto the wood site I will say it was a little tricky to glue this greenery. I found it to be very cool, it's here to just apply the glue to one or two leaves instead of just trying to apply glue to the stem or center, it made it a lot easier to just rely on those pair of leaves touching instead of trying to hold down the entire stem to try to get it to fit and then putting little flowers attached to Mike.

I felt like that held it in place even more I just thought this was cool and I thought it looked really cool like it was going up the side of these little houses and then you could definitely add flowers of any color if you have pops of color in the decor of your

home

that I didn't want. These kept falling off so I ended up hot gluing the houses together so it was just one piece and since I'm always changing my decor this will make it much easier to move from place to place but this is what it looks like.

Like whatever, I completely finished it. I love the result. I think it's very cute. I accidentally moved my family's word a little bit, so it's not perfectly in the center, so I could go back and fix it, but this is it. A perfect gift that you can personalize for anyone or make for yourself or a family member. I loved how it turned out and there are so many ways to customize it. I ended up with three somehow, so I'll probably find them after I stop looking, but that would be exciting, but I hope Dollar Tree restocks them.
