Also with us we will stay on the sidelines, guys, you know, we are used to seeing great performances on finals night. That's what happens every day. year, but when you add this element of such a close competitive finish, it just takes the anxiety level to a new place. My stomach has been in knots all night and it's going to get worse as we beat these scores and you get to see people. At The Stance we had a great turnout here tonight. I think Dennis' competitive environment really energized a lot of people. I talked to people who came and said they saw the movie show, went to the movies and were very engrossed. the excitement they had to be here tonight, well, this is one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic crowds I've ever been a part of.

I mean, just wonderful, they know what's going on, they understand the nuances and they go crazy with the awesomeness of it and us. I have had many surprises, the cores are now beginning to enter the field and will enter in the order of appearance first against the Wisconsin Lacrosse Blue Stars. They were our 12th place finisher in the semi-finals and on a show called Voodoo at Georgia 86.2. uh, last night they were 13th last year. Voodoo drumming paved the way for these guys and they finished 8th last night. A wonderful baritone solo, a very, very exciting show and a great colorful finale.

I love that scary witch, a voodoo priestess and here comes Spirit of Atlanta. Speak Easy, their show, took us back to the flapper era, some very fun open horns showing the spirit of Atlanta sitting at #11, coming in at #11 with an 86.4 Speak Easy, great piano samples throughout show, a gigantic sound that we always expect and love from the Spirit of Atlanta lots of show here on this show tonight, great dancing too, good to see these guys back in the finals, Steve, isn't it? Yes, in fact, Lucas Oil Stadium is the place. and the retirement

as we used to call it is called the Grand Finale, now all the cores come out in the order of appearance coming out of a tunnel at this point so it will take a while we will take them out of both tunnels at both ends and very soon we will have to the 12 present and accounted for as the night went on here, uh, it just increased core by core, the level of excitement continued to tighten around Dennis, it was great, uh, the whole night, uh, everything.

All week long, really Steve, here come the Blue Knights of Denver Colorado, their show uh No Beginning No End, although this finals week they surprised this Thursday night by putting an end to the show, yeah, we really set it up based on to what we saw last week, Allen. Town and then they fooled us, but for a positive ending, very, very exciting, yeah, it was a great ending for that show. Pat maeni's music appeared all over the nice little set of tambourines they had on the show and a wonderful Color Guard led the way for them to finish seventh last night great color combinations on those flags.
I think Will pointed out before that they hit almost all, uh, all the colors on the band wall theme, 135 colors, it's not a joke, it's real, another Corp that has had a significant improvement even. The last couple of weeks the theme was uh, life is a circular notion, basically everything goes round and round from B Massachusetts, the Boston Crusaders and they have the gray jackets back in the Boston Crusaders, that's how they start the show, His program is called rise. starts after a disaster, so they actually come out in a pretty effective monochromatic color scheme ninth last night, but they broke 90 90.0 exactly the gray jackets are replicas of the jackets that then-Senator John F.
Kennedy gave to the Corporation ago a long time. In 1959, they were taken off towards the end of the show and you saw the familiar Red Jackets come out, which certainly caught the crowd's attention. Now I guess we can expect a little trick here in the grand finale. Another great color guard added a lot to this program visually had a strange penalty Thursday night on Steve for using baby powder as an effect. It was a great effect, it created the dust after a mess, but uh, illegal substance, so they took a one point penalty from Madison and I didn't do it again after that, okay, listen to that, that's just can be a cheer for the Madison Scouts who once again lit up the place tonight tied the Cavaliers in the preliminaries Thursday night Cavy opened a gap in the semifinals last night came the Scouts. full board, you know guys, and that seems to surprise me with these cores in the lower steps tonight seemed like they opened the volume knob just one more notch and Let It Fly oh, it's the last show they were going for it, y'all and the Scouts of Of course, when they turn up the volume, Notch really catches your attention.
An incredible horn line. An incredible story. It's great to see this core with such a strong identity. Boy when they hit You'll never walk alone and every audience member of and every Alum. from the Madison Scouts stood up, oh man, getting chills just thinking about it again, it was incredible, it really was a moment. The Madison Scouts celebrated their 75th anniversary tonight. The entire Brotherhood with a quite proud history talking about the Brotherhood. It's ironic that the two all-male cores returning to Tonight, as they were last night, the Cavaliers probably get the award for biggest improvement in their show.
The secret society when we saw them in June had many rough edges, but we knew they would resolve them and they did so masterfully. my vote for biggest improvement since June, that's for sure, amazing percussion section, great contribution from the color guard, really, really Stu tonight, seven time champion of course, started the show with those black capes, giving them a sort of ethereal feeling, sixth percussion last night again, a Cavalier. Color Guard always physical, always Dynamic Bo, they use their musical book, as a vehicle for them, the visual program, right? Yeah, they give another big cheer now as two of our Midwest cores come out here, they're the Canton Ohio blue coats. were in search of America tonight I think they found it tied last night they did it tied with the regime coats Phantom and Phantom were tied even The brass and general effect percussion were every fifth last night in the semi-finals another strong contribution from a percussion section with Oh I love the beginning of this show, oh yeah this is one of my favorite openings of any show we have here and I also love the ending, the Old Glory line up and then say hello.
I have a feeling, Steve, that the kids are going. Be very happy to not have to put those bleachers together, no more bleachers, you won't want to see any more bleachers because I saw a bonfire outside. I'm not sure about the interesting Color Guard outfit, since you see, again, that theme. of diversity that comes from each member having a different uniform, a different outfit and then there is the rest of the core that serves as the traditional marching band, so we have gone blue and now the Rockford Illinois Phantom Regime with that style wonderfully elegant and elegant Color Guard telling the storybook fairy tale tonight and you can't have a fairy tale unless you open the book correctly to read it.
This is one of the great visuals in that Phantom show now, if you missed it, watch this as the book unfolds and the pages open with some masterful writing here Jamie Thompson always the master, he's brilliant and you're right about the guard Steve, I mean, they're so classy and such a wonderful performance uh Color Guard, so fun to see coming. text on page here their big guard was fourth last night General effect Fifth and from there they weave the tail with the beautiful music in a brass line that took Elgar's Enigma Variations and made beautiful music with it, here we go, let's listen to this.
Cheers to Santa Clara Vanguard, fans have been in love with this core all season, the simply brilliant way they put Miz on the field, you can't help but be captivated and drawn in, and you know it's elaborate, alright. coordinated but they say to hell with subtlety when they're ready to hit you with a punch, they line up, they put it in front of a company and you know what's coming and you just enjoy it. Your Ranger JD Shaw did a masterful job stringing. Together, all these wonderful tunes, let's listen to this beautiful Santa Clara Vanguard, what a show, that may be my favorite show of the year, but it just brought the house down and they've been closing ground on these guys, the cadets. but in the cabin we think this might be the night Santa Clara got them and then the cadets come out and they're on fire.
Which drum line was first last night in the semi-finals. I wouldn't be surprised in any way tonight. Steve, both cores were magnificent, just amazing. This was the first core I saw from field level tonight and the consistency from one individual to the next is simply overwhelming, of course the great props that characterize the cadet show all year round, the towers, oh this line of drums played. Oh my gosh, and I moved, yeah, that's a slow move in this, in the scheme of that show. Bravo, the impressive cadets came third in the semi-finals and fought for the medals or moved up in the medal division, now gold, silver and bronze are up for grabs in the top three.
I love the way they use the colors in their towers to constantly change the palette of the stage and the shape of the stage isn't it a beautiful picture oh my god yes what a crowd and it almost looks like that from the very moment they open the doors today. This crowd has been here all day, here come the defending champions, the Blue Devils, and I'll tell you what you know, on finals night you're going to give it your all. These guys are so finely honed, so skilled in their performance that they don't choke. No way, and they were on their game tonight, yes, they certainly were.
You want to talk about a six year run for a drum core, four Golds, two Silvers in the last 6 years, that's incredible, absolutely incredible, the spring right or the spring reite again, another chord that's just Fascinating to see from the sidelines how hard they are working all the time the ambitious work of the Color Guard here is the grand finale now of the spring, so many layers in the show just incredible and it ended with a sacrifice, a ghost. movement we had Bloodshed from the Blue Devils controversial when Stravinsky debuted 100 years ago has also been controversial this drum cor season is enough to win undeniable how good they are undeniable how well they perform in every area absolutely no weakness and the statistic of the that we've been talking about all week they've never been lower than fifth place since 1975 it's almost, I almost can't believe I'm saying those words, it's such an amazing statistic, well the other thing about them is that I've kept the staff together of instruction for decades, really yeah, pretty much unchanged, so the consistency is there from the beginning, yeah, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, you know, if it ain't broke, don't do it. break it down good, we only have one more left and that was the core that scored the victory in the semifinals last night and when it is announced that this place is going to erupt Carolina Crown and MC equal to the square there they come listening to this crowd in Carolina Carolina.
Raven, this has been 2008 all over again, this crowd has been trying to push this core forward trying to force them to win the crown, they came out and performed and gave everything they had tonight, this is the end of the show, that last little step into the Wormhole, went and came out the other side with eternal love and we were all level field for those guys and uh, I don't think my ears have receded yet, what a metal sound, it's just incredible again, the mind of the smallest details that can take advantage of the brass playing, the percussion, so many wonderful things tonight from the field level, brilliant arrangements on all levels, well, you said something to someone last night, Dennis, that uh, the mark of excellence is taking incredibly difficult things and making it look easy. making it look easy and they do it, oh yeah baby they do it, so the scene is set.
The Blue Devils repeat or we put aname for the first time on that

championship

trophy. This is a treat here that fans have been waiting for too. Mast Horn lines go to play America the Beautiful led by the Blue Devils drum majors. I'd say we'll get some decb out of this personal aggregation accompaniment, yes, yes, a great climax to a phenomenal week. here in Indianapolis we had a great series of events earlier today, the drum line battle was a huge success, people all over Georgia Street are packed and then the sound sporting event in front of the stadium, the group uh star United won with a wonderful aalach and spring performance, they will go to DCA in the small central

championship

s in Anapolis, yes, yes, so having those two new initiatives got us going today, the day of the Championship Finals, it was something special and that alone It's going to grow here we go. to my Goosebumps they have Goosebumps what a sound in this stadium it just resonates what a nice arrangement it's also beautiful.
I love it. At the beginning of that, the sheet music will appear next, we will also have the announcement of the Caption Awards, Dennis, we honor a lot of big names in these Caption Awards and people have had a big part in the musical development of this activity. Well, the percussion award is named after the late Fred Sanford, who from the mid-70s to the 80s was certainly the leading figure in terms of percussion arranging and education and, in my opinion, really was the man responsible for making that drum center percussion was acceptable uh in music education circles Youth's guide to the orchestra that was FR bellweather oh my gosh when I was older so we honor a lot of people here we go the call for the drum majors now front and center this is uh This is highly anticipated and I have to tell you I'm here on the edge of my seat with everyone else we're we're I'm just looking back at these stands and more people than usual I'm standing still for these , these scores in this final, the winning Corporation will take the field and do their performance once again in an encore that is always a pleasure to look forward to, we also did our age elimination

How did this core work this last week? They worked hard, you know, they started this journey together, we ended up here together until the end, you know, never go back, never stop fighting, incredible performance, congratulations Carolina Crown, thank you, tears of joy once again. Congratulations to everyone absolutely Brent, congratulations to the 12 cores here tonight 201, but there is something special about witnessing history and that handshake is something that these cores started face to face. Dennis Crown took the unusual step of going west and competing in California from the Vamos, so the Demons and Crown have been butting heads since June back and forth all season.
Crown took the lead early on, then the Devils came in and took over and then Crown fought their way back, we got here in the semis or the preliminaries, rather the Blue Devils won them. Carolina returned to take the semi-finals and tonight here you see it and let's study these numbers together for a moment as we analyze GE Visual and the music we thought of when Crown won the GE Award. It's generally an indicator, but percussion has been a challenge for them, it's no secret and that distribution had to be reasonable. The Cadets won the percussion, Dennis, but apparently Crown was close enough to Prevail, well, don't forget that the caption awards are averaged over three nights, so it's very hard to say exactly what happened tonight from the title alone: awards 251 hundredths of a point, the difference to win, look what happened with the cadets and Santa Clara, well we just lost that page, but it was nip and Tuck and only a tenth of it we knew.
We knew Santa Clara had been sneaking up on the Cadets, here we go and they almost had the Cadets win bronze by a tenth of a point tonight. The blue coats and the Phantom Regiment were also separated by a tenth of a point. There they tied for last place. so blue night Co that then fell to the next group, the Cavaliers in Boston, with only a tenth of a point difference and Madison just 3/10 behind them, there was disappointment here when they announced Madison in ninth place, but look how close that were those three nuclei. We have many stories within history, but the big story is the DCI trophies that date back to Carolina.
What about that? I'm very happy, happy for Kevin Smith, Doug killing Steve, those founding fathers of Carolina Crown who started this core in a dream. Many years ago, a lot of Atlanta veteran spirit said, "You know we need a drum corps here in the Carolinas, so you put this thing in motion and it's all coming together tonight in a world championship against a great competitor, the Blue Devils." ". with the silver, what a great night here, what a great week it's been in Indianapolis here and at Lucas Oil Stadium Dennis, you've been here a long time, take a bow to this one, you know, Steve, I've been to each and every one of the ICDs.
World Championship uh, I've never heard a crowd like this. I have never seen a children's group perform in all cores at this level and I must say that this Carolina Crowns Brass Ensemble is the best I have ever heard and that is coming from a drummer, yes, coming from a brass player, I am there with him, it's been a great night, friends, a great week, thank you for joining us for this first DCI final webcast. I hope I gave you the cores, we certainly did and I. I can't wait until next year we will be back here in India, you might want to start looking for those tickets now.
Thank you all. I'm Steve Rondano, delighted to be your host for 35 years and very proud of these drums. and international drumcore bugle cores good evening everyone
