Hello

sewing

friends, welcome to my

sewing

room, my name is Beth and if you are new, welcome, it is always good to sew with friends and today I am sharing a

table

runner

inspired by these potholders that I recently made. The link below explains how to make them and today I'm making a

table

runner

using the same technique, just a little different. Let's start with my table runner. Today I am using a piece of batting that is 12 inches by 28 inches long. and I'm using a variety of one and a half inch wide strips, some are from a pre-cut honey bun and some I cut myself and then I need a four inch square for the center.

The first thing I did was find the center. of my batting and I gave myself a line that I just marked with a marker, kind of a dotted line down the center of my table runner. I took my four inch square and placed it in the center of my table runner using those lines. and fold it in half, this is where I will start putting my strips for my

chevron

table runner. Make this will be a

quilt

as you go so I got some backing, cut it a little bigger than my batting and pinned those two layers together and now I'm going to start by adding my

chevron

strips first.

I'm going to start here with the orange and I'm going to call this strip number one, so strip number two and this is the one that I'm going to want to line up with that line that I drew in the center, so after I sew strip number two and open it up, I hope that the corner of that strip lines up with my line and I think So it's going to be, that's where I use it as my guide, so I'll just have strips one and two all the way, strip one, you know, get on and then strip number two , that's the one I want to make sure of. aligned with my black dashed line drawn there through the center and here I'm adding a number one strip and a number two strip on this side it's like a log cabin and when I open up the number two strip I want it to line up with that dashed line yeah , now I'm going to add strips the same way I've been doing it and I'll be here.

I'm just focusing on that side and I'll fill this side and then I'll go. on the other side, do it here. I wanted to show you that you can stop adding strips when the last set of strips reaches the end and that you can cut the table runner and have a pointed end. I'm not going to do that, but that. It would be a great option. I'm going to fill in those triangular corner edges there and then when I'm done I'm going to trim using the batting as a guide so I'm going to use an inch and a half wide binding strip for my little table runner and I'm actually going to add that to the front and roll it back and hand sew it, you could add it to the back and then sew it up on the front, but right here I'm attaching the binding to have a piece of binding long enough to go around my entire table runner.

I'm going to add this binding the easiest way I know how and that is to simply fold the beginning of the binding at an angle and start sewing along it. The edge I got to the corner I stopped about a quarter inch away and I sewed from the corner sort of an angled stitch, then I put the binding on, I lifted it up and then I folded it down and that's what gives me a Nice finished edge on my binding, you can see the end of the binding is right above the fold I started with so when I turn the whole thing over all the raw edges will be inside so I'll roll up the binding For the back, pin all the way around and then hand sew on all sides.
Make this a beautiful table runner that I will enjoy using outside this summer. It looks very pretty in my patio. I enjoyed doing it and, as always, I enjoy sewing with you. Thank you. for joining me today and see you next time
