Two nights, not a bed in sight. I really like the Northlink ferry, but was this a bad idea?

Mar 30, 2024
Hello friends, I'm doing

this

little introduction today hidden from the fierce Aberdeen wind, welcome to Commercial Key and welcome to the northern link. Now I'm going on a

ferry

trip tonight, a little bit different. I usually love a hidden night

ferry

. in your cabin, but what does it feel like when, like me, you can't afford a cabin or certainly can't justify it when traveling alone? To give you an example

this

ferry is costing me £36 each way so adding a cabin would be over £120 each way so I can't justify it tonight so welcome to a stingy review we'll see what this trip is like back on board for approximately 26 hours without a bed. let's go, I ran into a small problem right away, something I'm encountering more and more these days, since they challenged me to film despite always being very discreet, I don't

really

understand the problem since all I do is advertise their products free, although I guess it's proof that this isn't a sponsored video for tonight's ride.

I booked one of the onboard capsules, which is technically like a business class seat, but it's a product that has been criticized in online reviews, so be careful.

really

interesting to see what the return trip is like. I don't even have to be in a standard reclining seat and I don't sleep very well when I travel, so this could be a bit of a brutal trip, there are only two decks for public access. Deck five is where all the cabins are and everything else is on deck six, that's where I will be in the pod lounge, you have the restaurant, the magnus lounge, the shop and there is a There is also a small cinema somewhere when You get on board, you get a card for your capsule lounge and there are also some bathrooms with showers.

More Interesting Facts About,

two nights not a bed in sight i really like the northlink ferry but was this a bad idea...

Not sure if these are just for capsule customers, but we'll find out at first glance. The capsules seem to be pretty good value for money, to be fair, a bit like an old airline business class seat, with good storage space , the usual pillow and blanket and one of those footrests that I never use anywhere. Oh, and you won't miss it, it's the biggest table there is. offshore it's fine, on the armrest and on the right side you have USB charging and light controls and on the left is the recline button which leaves you far enough back to have decent privacy, but I was still worried about the leg room.

For comparison, here's a look at the regular recliners in the main cabin, a much cheaper option at £350 vs £18 for the pods, even if you don't have a pod there are plenty of benches where you can stretch out and at least rest. a nap and I've seen people before just lying on the mat and also during the night with sleeping bags so that's another

as I decided to have some dinner before setting sail so I could film as we left the port and this is pretty cool, I bought a dog beer and beef olives. It was 12 pounds.

The beef olives are pretty good to be fair. I'll go back to the fish and chips for the return trip. Greetings guys. I hope that's not an omen. It's covered in marijuana. at the stern of the boat it is mainly for smoking but if you are traveling in winter this is probably the only outside area that will be open but today we also have the upstairs so now without the North Sea it is starting to get cold, So I'm heading back inside, as you would expect, the bar is the real heart of the ship and is well priced for drinks, around £4 a pint, and there is a large TV to help you pass the time.
The store is small but well equipped. all the usual suspects you'd find on any boat this size, including some products made in Orkney and Shetland. Bathroom check time. I know we just set sail, but it's spotlessly clean here and there's a shower too. I'm really tempted to try it. That was it, but I don't have a tool, okay, you need a small token to use the shower and you can rent a tool for two quid. Meanwhile, back in the capsule, I spent some time recharging my batteries and charged them well until it was time. for a little something to help me sleep, we are going through some pretty rough seas now, but nothing this boat can't handle, believe it or not, it's almost 10pm. and it's still broad daylight out here.
I went up to the top deck for a little bit, but it was too windy, so I came back down here. I'll be back in a week as I'm fascinated to see how dark it will get. It's a heavy door. You can see here that all the seats are tied down. below these boats are built for big seas the bar has gone from full to practically empty that probably has something to do with the tennis match that is ending now that Nadal has just won we are sailing most of our sailing in cromerty and the wind blowing gusts from six sea states slater moderate mild to moderate I have no legs for the sea I tell you I can barely walk it's approaching midnight so just a little final look around the boat and a stretch of the legs before trying Get some sleep The pod seats are really good for sitting, but it's different for sleeping.
I don't think I can fully stretch my legs and I think that's going to be a problem tonight. I took a towel and a shower token so I could freshen up. I get up in the morning, even if I don't sleep much, I will be fine. I think it's very quiet here on the aft deck. Darkness has finally fallen and it has also started to rain a little. All I can see is a couple of boat lights in the distance and the swell is still pretty bad so I'm struggling to walk straight, that's not because I spent some time in the bar and now they've closed access to the decks superiors.
I'm not sure if it's because it's night or because the weather is closing in a bit. Let's go back inside. It's a little wild out there. It's lovely to be able to walk through the ship at this hour, even though it's so quiet. This is like. the restaurant type of area so there's no comfortable seating there's actually no one sleeping here they're further towards the bow to my left that's where I'll be back in about four hours for breakfast oh what would I do for a cabin at this time I was tempted to use my sugar token tonight, but I think it will be better to cool down a little in the morning, okay, let's get back to the capsules, it's time to be as calm as possible.
Good morning friends, well that was one. What a good night, I think I've slept for an hour, so it's time to take a shower. You see the Shetland rollercoaster. Wherever I travel, if I can take an unexpected shower, it is a pleasure that the restaurant should be open for breakfast. about 10 minutes, I think it opens at 6:30 and you should really eat all the food you can at this time. I'm not sure the next time I'll be able to eat today, it's time to get some fresh air, how? it was the sleeping pod up north, seriously, pretty bad, it was fine as a daisy but as soon as you came back and tried to sleep there it was a different story, maybe I'm too big but I couldn't stretch my legs and that is.
It's a real problem for me when I'm trying to sleep, especially because my knees are quite weak, so sometimes they were quite sore as well and there was just no room to move. I think in theory it's a really cool concept, but in Practice it doesn't really work, look at my breakfast, fantastic, cheers guys, that's cool, we're arriving at the port now, but we had a different approach this morning. We went around the back of Brescia so it was so good to see the high cliffs. The other side has never gone that way before, it usually comes straight to Lerwick, but the main thing is that we get there on time.
Welcome to Shetland. Friends, I'm going to set off now and film another video here in Shetland. See you back on board for the return in about 36 hours folks, let's get back on board for the ferry back to Aberdeen and this time I won't be paying the £18 supplement for a capsule. Oh no, I'll go with the cheapest one. ticket possible and that means an extra charge of three pounds 50 for a reclining seat. Also, this ferry is going to take an hour and a half longer because we are stopping in Kirkwall and Orkney on the way home, although the weather is changing.
We're still getting close and it'll be dark, so I don't think we'll see much now. We're still about an hour and a half away from setting sail, but I'll get on board early so I can find a nice quiet corner. from the ship to base myself for the next 14 hours. I haven't found my favorite seat, but I found a really quiet corner and it's long enough to stretch out, so I think it should be more comfortable than the pods I have. The early boarding plan has been thwarted. There's been a safety announcement that says you can't just leave your stuff on a seat, so if I go out for a walk or grab a bite to eat, I'll lose my seat instantly.
I haven't worked at all. I still don't know what to do, but I don't want to just sit there for 13 hours, that would be the most boring video ever, right? I think my channel needs an assistant who can just sit with the bags being put on. To get there at that time, we should arrive a little earlier and be together tonight, it should be around 10:30 and they don't have a pin for tomorrow morning at seven. I literally just realized we're in a different boat tonight. The reason I noticed it is because the winch text is printed differently on the cover.
These are sister ships, but they are virtually identical siblings. Our next door neighbor, the Heliar, which is also marked Northlink. I guess I didn't do anything about it. So she must be like an exclusive cargo ship. You see, I traded my comfortable seat for views like that and food like that. I got so excited because I came back to the bow of the boat and my seat was still there and then I realized why. It was still there five minutes after I sat down. I was feeling so bad that tonight there is a very big swell and the bow is not the place to be, so I went back to after the boat.
I went out to look for something. The fresh air really feels a little better here, but I think Midships is the place to be tonight. One of the best things about coming back through Kirkwall is that you make a very close pass to Fair Isle. This is very exciting for me. Fair Isle is a dream destination I haven't been lucky enough to go there yet but I hope one day here we will be tied up in kirkwall although it is more like what maybe ryanair would call kirkwall we are miles from the city but anyway that indicates that It's time for me to go downstairs and find a place to sleep.
The boat is a little crazy tonight. It's like a mix of drunk people and excited teenagers running everywhere. Maybe some of these are getting used to it. Anyway, the bar is. almost closed it's almost midnight, I hope that's the case It calms down a little. I'd rather be here than caged in one of the pods, but we'd like to get some rest and it might be here. This is already much better than spending almost £20 on a capsule and my secret. weapon smelly feet no one will come near me good morning friends, it's us just arriving in Aberdeen harbor now, so how was last night?
It was okay, I'm not going to say it was easy, but it was still much better than in the capsules I was More comfortable, able to stretch. I probably only got about the same amount of sleep as I did in the capsule, but it was much nicer to be in the main cabin and have free control of the whole place. Find a comfortable place to sit and rest. sleep and you could also go for a walk, you weren't restricted to that space so I would always choose the reclining seat option instead of the pod because you don't have to sit in one of the reclining seats, you can just lie down anywhere, probably I'll go and brush my teeth.
Now I'm going to Aberdeen. I return to Stonehaven and sleep the rest of the morning. There we have it folks, welcome back to the granite city after a total of 26 hours on board without a. bed I hope you enjoyed the video and found it interesting and I would also love to know your opinion. Do you consider a cabin a luxury or a necessity? Let me know in the comments below and I'll see you somewhere soon. Bye bye. you too
