The Key to Building & Keeping Muscle

Mar 26, 2024
A recent study published by James Bagley, Kevin Morash and Andy Galpin suggests that myonucleotides are retained for a short period of time. However, despite this,

muscle

s can still recover easily in the long term, and this is likely due to epigenetic factors. Epigenetics is one of the most interesting areas of research in biology and for good reason. You see, DNA doesn't change much and that's actually a very good thing. However, we do not actively use all the genes in our genome. Instead, there are protein tags on the outside of the genes that act like a switch, and the interesting thing is that they are strongly influenced by our environment.

When you do resistance training, you are telling your

muscle

s that there is a real environmental need for them to be stronger and bigger. This turns epigenetic switches on and off in your genome, making it easier for the nuclei to regulate protein synthesis, as well as many other factors that contribute to muscle hypertrophy. This is the muscle component of muscle memory. You see, your muscles have no consciousness but they are still capable of retaining information that can facilitate their recovery in case of loss of muscle mass. I want you to take a moment and think about what this means for musculoskeletal health as it relates to aging.

More Interesting Facts About,

Now, Jonathan just did a whole video on resistance training and how it relates to longevity, so be sure to check it out, but in short, resistance training is not about looking good and getting strong. I mean, those are great side effects that are obviously very stimulating for the most part for a lot of people in the world, but resistance training is really about stimulating the skeletal muscles so that they can adapt and improve your quality of life and then you want to keep it for as long as possible. The stronger you are, the less likely you are to get injured.

I mean, it's not that it's impossible to get infected, but you're less likely to get infected and that should be enough for people. It's not about looking good and getting stronger; again, that's great, but what you should really do when it comes to resistance training is focus on improving quality of life and what that will mean for you in the future.
