Apr 04, 2024

thrift

store

challenge, a highly sought after

store

that you guys asked for was anthropology, so basically we're going to go to anthropology, look for a lot of inspiration and then head to the

thrift

store to see what we can. get a lot less, that being said, let's go ahead and get started. The first thing I noticed when I got into anthropology was the amount of luxurious blankets and pillows and then I came across this new one at the thrift store. with tags it reminded me a lot of this anthropology blanket that cost 148 dollars and this second hand blanket was only five dollars you guys are new with tags originally labeled for 99, there was a little problem, although one of these fuzzy little balls was missing, So rather than trying to match it or put it back in, I just removed the string, which was kind of a clue that something was missing.

This blanket fits very well with my current color scheme in my living room and is very cozy and perfect for the upcoming season. Anthropology does very well, it is making really interesting and unique home

decor

pieces. I loved this speckled foundation, but it was $78 and then it was at the thrift store. I came across this speckled vase for only 1.99 and the way they had designed one on display was. They put these really beautiful wispy flowers inside and I thought they looked really nice so I went to Walmart. I bought this bouquet of flowers for less than five dollars and there you have it, looking very similar but definitely affordable.

More Interesting Facts About,

anthropologie vs thrift store diy anthropologie inspired decor...

We cannot speak of the home of anthropology.

decor

ation without addressing the amount of tinted glassware available, they do a fantastic job of taking these types of everyday items but making them feel much more special, so I found this handkerchief style bowl at the thrift store for only a dollar and it reminded me a lot of these planters that are sold at anthropology, but for a fraction of the cost, oh when it comes to different metals that you can buy through anthropology, they definitely love the bronze moments and that works really well because I have a lot of luck in my stores second hand finding brass or brass

inspired

items.

I found this chandelier for only 75 cents. I also found these beautiful creamy white taper candles for only two dollars. I'm going to place one of these taper candles in this candle holder and there. You got it. I feel like this whole vignette looks very well done and very anthropology-

inspired

and it looks great, but I think if you're inviting people over because it's hosting season, as I like to call it, investing in a bell is always a good idea. idea and I actually found this one at the thrift store that had never been used for only a dollar so I'm just taking all the packaging off.

I'm going to put some delicious treats in here and I think it looks very elegant. together but also functional and foreign is really known for having a slightly more feminine style I would say, but then they incorporate these more masculine pieces into their collections, so I came across this leather magazine rack that was only five dollars, a key difference . The price is that theirs is genuine leather and mine is vinyl, but I still think if you're on a budget you can get this style for a lot less. I'd say anthropology makes wall baskets better than anyone, so if you ever do it.
You're in a thrift store and you come across a large-scale shallow basket. Think about how you could place it on your wall to add some texture instead of just making a more traditional piece of art. I ended up finding this beautiful large scale basket. for only three dollars at my local Goodwill and I think it looks wonderful in my office, as I mentioned before, anthropology uses a lot of brass in their home decor and I found this footed planter for 48 dollars and interestingly enough, this is something that I come I would say that very often in thrift stores there is this style of planter and a brass finish.
Now the brass can be painted or it can be genuine brass, but once I found this one, it fits so well with that candle holder I showed you before, so I decided to buy this for only 3.99 and filled it with fall flowers from Hobby Lobby from last year and again I think it goes really well with my outdoor office wall basket for that really anthropology inspired look you have. mix it with your materials so that we have the summer tan, we have our brass and now I think it's a good time to incorporate some marble and anthropology makes marble in a really beautiful and feminine way again, it's really interesting, they will have a nice finished in gold leaf or a scalloped edge, it's always really beautiful and interesting and I found this bathroom set for only four dollars at my Goodwill and I really liked the pattern of this specific black marble, there was a little bit of olive green in there and it just felt a little more interesting, but I probably wouldn't use this in the traditional sense, so instead I'll just take some super glue gel and make this some sort of raised tray that's definitely known for carrying a lot of of animal-inspired designs so you can see this large-scale bird print as well as this Sleeping Fox credenza, and while these designs may not be for everyone, I think you can find a way to incorporate the idea into your space to follow doing it.
I feel like you, so I came across this bird and at first I thought it was just a bird, sort of a display item, but then I realized it was a container on top of my used linen books. This entire vignette cost me less than 17 years, which I think is a much more affordable price. One idea I want to encourage you to use is to make a dream shopping cart, so go to anthropology or go to their website and just add things to the cart that you would love. have in your house and then go to the thrift store and then see if you can find things that look a little similar, you may have to do a little DIY but for example I found this beautiful jug face for just a few Dollars. some flowers from outside and I think I have a very similar look but much cheaper.
One thing that distinguishes anthropology wood decor from, say, Pottery Barn Crate and Barrel West Elm is that it is very intricate, for example, it will have a weave. It manages a honeycomb exterior, a scalloped edge on top, there's always something extra, it's not just a wooden bowl, so for anthropology it really is in those little details that make a big impact, so this wooden bowl was beautiful but a little plain. Then I came across this wooden footed bowl, very interesting, but it had some damage so I left it, but then I came across this one, a large scale tray with a scalloped edge, very appropriate for anthropology, but a bit Too orange for my taste, but this. one I had to take home had beautiful engraving, the handles were interesting, it just felt a little more interesting than your average wooden bowl, and it only cost two dollars overseas.
It has many very interesting wall sconces and I came across this one. wall sconce at a thrift store for 1.99, but then I saw this pot and thought, what if instead of using it in the traditional sense for lighting? What if we turned it into a wall planter? Let me know what you think. We love? We hate that this gives you the idea and option to maybe repurpose something and use it in a totally different way? So I want to talk about cases for a second. I think in a traditional interior design sense they think of it as Being Coastal, but anthropology does it in a way that makes it feel almost quirky and feminine.
I ended up finding this footed shell bowl at the thrift store for only three dollars and it reminded me a lot of this set of three shells they use as wall hangings and while I won't be hanging this on a wall, I think placed on a stack of books gives me that look in a different way. I also came across this type of shell-shaped lamp. I have seen this lamp several times at the thrift store but it is almost always green or pink and then I saw it in white and it was also a green label day which made this lamp only three dollars.
I bought the screen separately at another thrift store for only two dollars, so for less than five dollars I think it's an affordable way to try out this kind of quirky shell-shaped inspiration, but on a limited budget we can't talk about anthropology without addressing the use of the floral print they use on their dishes. in their pottery, they use it in their textiles and I think if you have a great millennial style, you'll really appreciate this aspect of anthropological home decor, but my favorite way they use it is in their dinnerware and I think it's just taking something that You could use every day but make it feel that much more special, which I think is the anthem of anthropology, so I found these wine glasses for only 30 cents a piece compared to these mugs that were 12 each. buy a set of eight of these and they would still be much cheaper than one of the anthropology mugs.
Ok, now let's talk about some cushions. While I was in anthropology, I want you to keep in mind a couple of things if you have anthropology. inspired style you want to get that look Less while you're shopping for secondhand clothes, you'll want to look for a pattern, especially like a floral pattern, an animal pattern, and while anthropology definitely has some neutrals, I would say their style is much more tonal gem, so While you're looking for second-hand things, I was looking for that same type of thing. I found these two pillows that gave me a similar effect and then I found this one that I really loved for my daughter's room, it had a zipper so I was able to wash it and it was only three dollars and it actually originates from World Market so I was very happy with this find.
Now let's talk a little about works of art. Anthropology has a wide range of art available on its website in the store. Some of the items they had displayed, as I mentioned earlier, are very influenced with animals and portraits, some abstract prints, but finding these large scale art pieces in thrift stores is definitely a challenge, so I came up with a couple of ways I've shown you in the past to achieve that look on a smaller scale. The first thing you need to do is find some frames, so I like to find mine at the thrift store, no matter the art. it's inside because I'm going to take it out anyway and then I'll look on the anthropology website for pictures that I like that they're using, so like I mentioned before, I found this ballet book at the thrift store that I ended up picking up.
I pulled up one of the pages that I really liked and I think I can get a very similar look but definitely a lot cheaper and you could make a downloadable print from Etsy of a bird image that you think definitely looks like the one from anthropology, but I ended up finding this one at the Dollar Tree so I thought it would fit well and decided to put it inside too, greeting cards, wrapping paper, books, magazines, there are so many different ways you can find artwork that looks alike. some anthropology on a smaller scale and definitely on a budget and that about sums up today's video.
I have made some anthropology videos in the past which I will link in the description box below to help you further with some projects if you like this video, don't forget to give it a big thumbs up and tell me in the comments any other stores you would be interested in see in this series and I will see you next Sunday, goodbye, foreigner.
