At what age you can become an artist / Eye Painting

Apr 07, 2024
Hi guys! Today we will be

painting

an eye and talking about art and age. Since I already talked about the way I paint eyes in my previous videos, I decided to take a topic that is not related to

what

I show. There are many beliefs about art. At

what

age should an

artist

start, who can be called a real

artist

and, of course, the myth of talent. Honestly, I hate that these things stop people from creating art. I think all this doesn't matter as much as the passion and love you put into what you do. I chose the topic of age for this video because I recently received a lot of messages asking if it is possible to

become

an artist at a certain age.

Here's my answer: you can

become

an artist at any age. This could probably be the end of this video but since the

painting

is not ready we can discuss the topic in detail. I can name a group of artists who began their artistic careers quite late, from Paul Gauguin, who began at the age of 35, to Anna Mary Moses. He began his successful artistic career at the age of 78. Your story is unique. At first he sold paintings for 3 or 5 dollars and over time the prices rose to 10,000 dollars per painting. She appeared on the cover of Time magazine, she received an award from the president and the documentary about her life was nominated. for an Academy Award.

More Interesting Facts About,

at what age you can become an artist eye painting...

She made it into art history. And all this started happening when she was almost 80 years old. So yes, you can become an artist at any age. The only thing you need is the ability to accept failures. Generally, the older we get, the less we do things we are not familiar with. Failures therefore become less common and are more likely to be perceived as serious. It affects both what we think about ourselves and how we look at others. The assumption is that at a certain age, if you do something, at least you shouldn't do it wrong. Most people who want to create art give up because of the pressure.

The pressure they put on themselves and the feedback from other people. So if you want to become an artist at any age, don't expect too much from yourself. Be patient and don't think that what others say about your abilities and outlook means anything. It's not. Nobody knows what will happen or how good you will become. You must remember that failure tells you nothing. For example, you did not create the painting you had imagined. It doesn't mean anything except that right now you don't have enough experience to paint what you wanted. You need more practice and that's it.

I was horrible at riding a bike. I couldn't drive even one meter without falling and I had bruises on my knees and elbows. My father even stopped trying to teach me. And for some reason, the idea that I'm not talented enough to ride a bike never appeared in my head. I kept trying and finally understood how to balance and ride. Patience and practice are everything in art. The skills that will give you the ability to create beautiful portraits or landscapes accumulate over the years. Your first portrait will be a disaster. Your 100th will definitely be better.
In art we are talking about years of work instead of weeks or months. So don't rush and don't expect a masterpiece right away. I started creating art when I was 19 and even then I was already wondering if I was too old to become an artist. Now I understand how ridiculous it was. But at the time I wasn't sure if it was possible. Because everyone around me had the belief that if you can be an artist your predisposition will come from an early age. In Russia, where I live, children start going to art school around the age of 10 and spend 5 to 8 years there.
They prepare for the drawing and painting exams to apply to university. That was the usual scheme. And there I was, 19 years old and with no experience in art. I was describing my story in the video above and I briefly said it was long. But I was too stubborn to give up. And I'm very grateful to myself for that. Years have passed but I still fail a lot. And I look at other artists and feel like I don't have enough talent. My ideas and techniques are weak and will never be as good as someone else's. But I got used to it.
I tell myself that if you want to feel sorry for yourself, do it. But then pull yourself together and keep working. I know people who stopped creating art or never started because they are too old for it. And they feel sad about it. I don't think you should limit yourself by the number of days that have passed since your birth. I think the older you are the more you can say with your art. You have more experience, you have seen more and you have something to discuss. I can't say that becoming an artist isn't difficult. And it doesn't matter at what age you start.
As I said in the previous video, it takes time, it requires effort and dedication. Especially for those starting from nothing like I did. You can say that Grandma Moses was lucky because an art collector saw her painting in a pharmacy window and did everything he could to include her artwork in the exhibition. Yes, the chances of this kind of happy coincidence happening to you are pretty low. However, if she didn't create art or if she was too shy to show it. All of that wouldn't have happened to her. You can do something and fail. Then repeat that and fail again.
And one day you will succeed. The word success means different things to each artist. It can be a painting you will be proud of, your first sale or exhibition. The life of an artist is full of big failures and small successes. But it is like this. Or you have a different option. You can say I'm too old to be an artist and fail without even trying. Also, with all this talk about success, achievements, money and time, we must not forget that art improves lives. And we all know that life can be hard. And creating your own images is therapy.
I believe art is a safe place where people can find friends, inspiration and recharge. I don't want to see art as a place for the elites, the chosen ones. It's my opinion and I know not everyone will agree. And that's fine. I hope to make this channel a place of education, inspiration and support. And I'll be happy if you help me with that.
