WARNING: The MOST STRESSFUL LANDING of 2020
May 29, 2021Welcome back to the Vlog and welcome back to another great day here at pop and eight again. My name is Ryan. I have wanted to take you to this place for quite some time. Now it's called Compro, so let's go ahead and get it. We start and head there. I know there is a fuel pump on low start once our NG is running we will turn on the fuel and put in our fuel electric mile pressure we will just continue going up towards the green. My GN is Now I'm above 35 so I watch my ATT as it goes up and watch how fast that little white needle goes up to see if it looks like it's going to go into yellow or not but it didn't go well.
The generator is on The lambs go back to the alternator or V2, my flaps are set and our jump bus, yes I bought it, is only 13 minutes from the top of those mountains over there, so it's a very short flight, but It is a really great getaway, there are 11 slopes from the beginning. all the way and it probably also has a 60 foot drop at the end so it's intimidating that's for sure. Good morning November. Tango Echo request a taxi. I buy a pob. Sorry, I have the volume turned down. Please say it again for November. Tango Echo um 1019 click back and release a seven to the left November tenko Echo hey clear left and right we'll do a speeding governor check as we exit under the runway there should be 20 70 or so 50 release button make sure it rises above that and it did we're fine it's been cloudy all morning all the way to the ground along the mountains like I said it's only 13 miles or 13 minutes flight but usually They have tailwinds.
And they've had it good, as you can see in front of me, the clouds form in a disk all the way to the top of the mountain, so it actually cleared in the last 15 to 20 minutes. They say there is no wind. This morning there were tailwinds and I. I can only land with a five knot tailwind at this location, so it doesn't give me much room for March and that's for sure. There are fuel caps and selectors that are fine. Our towels will just go away. Actually, we'll just inhibit it right now. because we are going to manually fly there because it is very short.
I already have all my switches and instruments configured. I have my vref and it is 57 and 67 if I were to go back. for some reason our flaps are set at 20 indicated and verified at 20 in both trends are set if we do it every 950 knots according to our tax level report to hard brake in reverse, cut, lift and shut up to exit after takeoff, image of 85 knots considered EPL consider boom 80 full flaps cut raise and turn off emergencies Mass just opened my door and called Tower ready for departure right hand Clips take off November our checklist condition of full ignition flaps 20 Fuel and harnesses and 1390 for 1440 on the torque everything right there is Pete, he's alive, there's 40 and 50 going on and as I turn, all I do is just pull a specific hitch and then let the plane fly on its own.
I'm not trying to blow it up. just pull it and leave it there until it picks up enough speed and then it will take off on its own, so we're headed to 8,000 feet max. I have clouds along the ridge, so the ridge is right around it. 7,000 but I have a Gap right there on the Gap call, so my plan is to head for that and just go through there on 85, we'll go 10 degrees flaps and the ITT is 720. crypto November Tango Echo came out at hour zero six walking initially for the call call that two four zero I don't go above 8 000.
Estimating that I buy a copy of eight Alpha Tango Romeo four two zero one nine eight six five three one two three decimal one, okay. It gave me three frequencies and the first two are HF radio only. Normally they give us our VHF first, but they give me the six five nine or eight or six five three eight HF radio first, if they don't work then I can switch. to one two zero decimal one, so looking here I'm at 7,000 al
most
, it's pretty spread out across this gap and then it's kind of pushing along the range that we should have no problem getting through and I'm seeing okay and clear on the other side, so I choose to continue on this one and also bring our torque back to 1250 now that we're, oh, that's seven thousand, which is the highest I'll go here until we get there. pass well confirm our cause is off, we don't have our GPS yelling at us and quickly look at the winds where they're coming from, they're coming from one side just to see if I'm going to have downdrafts or updrafts when I cross this ridge, they're coming this way, like this which probably shouldn't have anything, it's because they potentially go along the ridge, I don't know, yeah, more or less, now it's three knots. so it's absolutely nothing oh there's still some puppies though that's okay so I only have 20 miles left to go and I could basically go around this mountain or I could go around that mountain going down 500.It seems like it's a lot clearer with this. So I don't have to go that far, so I plan to go this way. This is Mount Alabari right here on the other side. If it is like a pure cliff, it is absolutely beautiful, since we have six, five, nine or eight. November Tango Echo transfer what through the call call no more than 8 000 estimating that I gain time one six role of the system of zero one one six one zero zero nine or q h November Tango Echo okay, let's start our autopilot just for a brief second, so I can pull out the strip chart, so the length is 454 meters here.
I buy it has 11 slopes pretty much starting from the
landing
zone all the way up, it says nine percent slope but when you're walking it seems to look pretty much identical almost
all the way up and then at the end it has a big drop going down to a road below, so ourlanding
zone is 63.40. So what am I going to do? It just passes over a huge valley, so there's really nothing to let you know how high up you are. You seem to be much higher than you should be. I'm going to put my lows here at 68.40 and what that's going to do is say low lows since I'm at that altitude and I know that if that's 500 feet above my landing zone and I don't want to go any lower than that because I know to myself.I usually want to go low on approach and then when I'm turning last, now too low at 100 feet or 200 feet to be able to do five knots of tailwind coming in, I also buy, so my altitude of pattern is basically I'm just going to do 7,300 feet, it looks like I have four knots coming out of my nose, so there's a good chance I'll have some little downdrafts, but they'll probably just come out as some bumps as they cross this ridge right here. It looks like it's actually pretty clear and nice out there, so I'm glad to see our fuel cut out for a second.
There are some small bumps. Now we are between six and eight knots. This mountain right here Ilabari as we go. I'll show you how much a simple fall is, it's absolutely incredible. I don't think it's very good at climbing though because I think it's kind of like an eggshell, it just peels off and you can. Anyway I see all the lines and stuff, yeah it's really amazing, then it goes down there for another 10 miles or so, I almost got away, the direction is to land on runway two three, okay, OBS, runway two three zero , I'll put a Nice little magenta boxes, it gives me an idea because it's very difficult to see this one at 7,800 feet right now.
I have cloud cover right at 7800, so I'm not even seeing the runway right now. I just know it. It's there with those little white groups. I think it's okay, eight miles out, we have 11 knots of wind calling for a headwind. I've got rain in the valley just behind, not having much hope, although it looks clear so that's good in all seasons. buy one two zero decimal one November Tango eco seven miles east 7 300. will be the circuit at time one six, okay, our fuel selectors are fine, ours is off, our v-ref will be the same, but let's just check that re 6100 so yeah 67. turn on our lights at our entrance, we have to go around its power, 20 degrees of flat inclination for 73 knots left, turn right, there's the runway in that dark place, so that It's good, it's not raining around it.
The winds are calming down but now they are going in this direction instead of this and that's pretty typical in this area, it's always six five nine or eight November or Tango Echo and the circuit I bought reports after landing so in Actually I'm almost. at my 500 feet right now just because the clouds had to go under and they just came back up so I have a more standard approach keep things simple open a harness we'll do our propeller now so two minutes ago and one minute I had five knots this way now I have nine knots this way, that's what makes this difficult.
We have maybe two or three runways that we go to that are very difficult, not necessarily because of the hill or anything else, it's because of the winds that really make it difficult to get here safely when you have a tailwind. and you're landing on a hill, it just pushes you in even faster and you have to basically match the slope and right yourself even faster and just yeah, it just increases safety by a pretty big margin when you have tailwinds. that explode and the harness is made, I keep my flap degrees flying above so we can see how we are receiving splashes, that is not good, I will be able to land.
If I have rain even though it's raining, uh, on slow runways, you don't want rain on your windshield to ruin your depth perception, okay, I'm seven knots. Tailwind, windsock blowing at least five knots. Give it a try and get ready to go around and potentially go back to Groca unfortunately okay let's hold on to my altitude for a second uh it's amazing it shows eight knots not great okay 20 degrees flaps my altitude for a second , like me. I said we're going to make the final turn at 68:40 on that hill over there now we're parallel to the runway, my power is back up because I'm almost at my 500 feet look what I mean, it's easy to descend when you don't do it in the mountains and everything is much lower than you and the air tracks high up kind of interfere with your depth perception and how high up you need to be.
I want 67 177 at the bottom, there's the hill, turning, heads, lows, lows, look, that's why I have it set. Up, nine knots on the nose right now, not looking very useful, okay, flap checklist complete, we're right at 68.40, turning at 67 knots, winds are already bouncing, you're not a tailwind, look the sparks or not. Tailwind five knots six knots going around, okay, we'll try it one more time and then we'll come back. I'm back to 68.40, so guys, it's good to practice laps because you don't always know when you're going to have to do one even if you're going on these big paved tracks that are 5000 feet long.
Still, it is good to have at least one a month in practice. Okay, there's 68.40 for these are torque so we don't go flying. That's why there's too much flow down, I'm trying to get back to 77, so I'm not struggling to help. I'm struggling to get my speed, uh, three, way up and the harness is ready, we'll flap and we'll do it. in a minute, okay, that's the power speed for the altitude, which is 67 knots, not with a tailwind, let's be a little gentler, peanuts are tailwind, there's four, five, four, okay, we're committed to 500. Okay, and look at my slightly muddy windshield. here this morning, let me catch my breath now I'm having my adrenaline pumping and now I'm sliding to the side when I get to the parking lot.
They don't have to add much rain there last night or this morning, probably. this morning anyway this is what I buy, yes, very exciting even for me, oh geez, it's very soft here, okay, yes, so this is very exciting, my adrenaline is pumping now just because I was concentrating a lot anyway guys uh yeah thank you so much for joining along. about this, if you enjoyed it, give it a thumbs up, leave a comment below what you think if you would do this or not. I hope you think I'm stupid and crazy doing this anyway, thanks again and have a great day. okay, close everything oh Moresby six five nine or eight November tango echo on the ground buy the HRH Council November okay, thanks again have a great trip
