I'm Alexandra's editor and today is a really exciting video because we're renovating my room, so I just moved in with my best friend, her sister, and my new room. Let's just say it looks a little more than slightly used. I'm clearly still unpacking things, but I immediately covered my walls with as much art and decorations as I could because, wow, they're not even renter beige anymore, this is like rented candy. that has been paling for a decade as charlotte perkins gilman wrote the yellow wallpaper in my room 150 years ago the other main problem is storage i have a lot of stuff i have a lot of books and there is no closet in this room to put them in so i need some aesthetic solutions with hashtag.

I describe my style as somewhere between your grandmother's crush on rugs and a mom from Florida selling you a timeshare in a cabin in the woods, if that makes sense, I don't know what I'm doing, that's where you come in, please help. This room is great, it has very, very good structure. I love how there is a brick wall and how there is a door that goes out to a small terrace. It's quite spacious, but there are some things that don't work. the room needs a paint job, as a statistic the walls are a little yellowed, it just needs a renovation, it also has this open closet situation, there is actually no place to store clothes here, i think it works very well, but there are two hooks and they are made of wood that stand out. the white color of the walls and I think it sticks out like a sore thumb like it doesn't look its best as a girl really like I mentioned James is an avid reader he has tons of books and I really want to turn this wall into a feature wall and just fill it from floor to ceiling with book storage right now all your books are on this white shelf there are books everywhere so i want to create a wall that not only looks really beautiful but is also functional this way when he's doing his virtual book club, it has a beautiful backdrop, also, as you can see, James' mattress is on the floor, he doesn't have a bed frame, so I'm going to bring him a new bed frame.

. and start with a blank slate, okay guys, everything is in your roommate's room next door, this is what it looks like, today we have a painter who helps us just because it's a lot, so she's going to start with the wall decorative and I think Atlanta and I are going to take a trip to the thrift store, not for James with makeover but for the studio, yeah, love, okay, so we get our frame, a couple of glasses, a basket for James' wall and now we'll go back to see where the painters are with the room. and yes, I hope it looks, I hope it looks good, we are back from the thrift store, the room has been painted, it looks much brighter, I love it, I loved it so much and this green accent wall is just perfect, I love it , we remove one.

Of the hooks that were here, so there are two hooks and they were both wooden, but we're bringing in another storage solution. The painter painted the wood all white and it matches very well. Now very perfect. Now Elena and I are going to move the furniture. back and we're going to make room to build a new bed that the article sent us, it's a beautiful dark wood, it's really going to add to this kind of rustic, chic, vintage granny vibe that we're going for and it's going to look so good. in front of this green wall, so let's move the furniture and then start building the bed.

I feel like there's so much stuff stuffed under there, now it feels open and looks more like a clothing display rack than just an open closet with no real organization, so the first thing we're going to do today is start hanging that shelf off the floor to the ceiling along this wall. I have planned these shelves so that there is room for the door to open and that when the door is open the shelves frame the door, let's get it right, so we came in a while ago to measure the shelves and we cut them all to size, so We know that all these shelves will fit, but only to make our lives easier.

I'm going to trace it again with painter's tape before hanging them just to make sure the shelves are the same distance apart, so I'm going to cut the pieces of painter's tape along each shelf. The first step in tracing this wall with painter's tape we want to make sure that we have a straight line against this light switch because this is where all the brackets will need to line up so to make sure that they are all in line we will take a level and then Alana will come in with the painter's tape and basically make a straight line.

I'm going to start with the top shelf, so I cut a piece of painter's tape along the shelf and I'll just place it on top. I realize that this painter's tape is not going to be level, but that's okay because we will level the shelves when we hang them. This is just a guide and now for the rest of the shelves we will measure 14 inches between them. On our way to the back we came across painter's tape, oh I think this is a long shelf, yeah, yeah, we're in the perfect business, so now that we have the distance between the shelves mapped out, we know where we're going. to place each bracket, now I'm going to measure about two inches from the right side because I don't want my bracket to be right on the edge of the shelf, I want them a little nice, they look so good, it took forever, but they look amazing, so now it's time to paint them all the same color as the wall.

It will look so good once we paint them green because everything will blend into the wall and look like some kind of built-in. shelf so now that the shelves are done and painted they look so good I wanted to say a big thank you to audible for sponsoring today's video as James. So to add a rustic, rustic feel, we just have a branch, a literal branch and some twine, and I'm going to create a plant hanger. I feel like this space is definitely missing plants and because James has this beautiful window with so much light. This is the perfect area here to have some young plants, so what I'm doing is wrapping a piece of twine around each end of this branch. I've put some mug hooks up on the ceiling and I'm going to tie the twine to the mug hooks and there you have it, an easy plant hanger to make, so I'm hanging macrame from this branch.

It will look great, but the problem is that we couldn't find any hooks like these that were big enough to fit. over the branch without them looking really industrial and clunky, so one solution is we just ordered a long strip of leather from Amazon, we cut a strip off and you want to fold it like this to make a kind of handle. I'm going to punch a hole through the leather for the S hook to go through, hook the leather onto the branch and then slide my S hook in so it's nice and secure and then hang my macrame planter.

We could have used thread, but we just thought leather would be decorative and add to this rustic, vintage vibe we were going for in this room. Now it's time to move on to this wall right next to James' bed. James has so many fun trinkets and art prints that were everywhere. room before, so I'm hanging this picture rack now just plugging up some holes. Got it, no stress. I have it above James' bed because he doesn't have a level surface for a table lamp. I'm using one. Of my favorite lighting solutions, I have a brilliant idea, so basically you get a pendant like this.

These are under 20. I'll link below the one we have and a light bulb. This bulb I think was ten dollars and then you just build your own little DIY pendant lights, you don't need a surface to put them on if you live in a small apartment and need beautiful lighting options. I recommend that you hang it over his bed and make the perfect reading light at night. I'm framing some of James' artwork in those antique frames we bought at the thrift store. James has great art and he will look great on display. Hey guys, next up is James.

I'm hanging these secondhand baskets on the wall, they add texture. and also the decoration is nice now I'm just making the bed supporting it with some beautiful cushions. I'm getting rid of James' floral quilt, even though it's very granny chic. I wanted to add something dark and moody to make this whole room feel much warmer. and cozier, I definitely knew this room was missing a rug and I knew I had to get a round one because there is this kind of spaceempty here and there are many rectangular shapes, you have the bed, you have the dresser.

I have these shelves so I thought I would bring in a rug that is round, it will add a bit, it will add a bit of variation to this space and it will really make this open area much more welcoming, this is not the rug, it is actually the pad that goes under the rug because it is a durable rug. I've talked about them before on my channel. I love them. They are machine washable so James can remove the top layer of the actual rug part, throw it in the washing machine and then place it back on top of the rug pad, great, if you have pets and want to be able to wash your rugs, this rug we're in an upward dog or what's cobra guys this rug looks so good so good.

Because we got rid of the bottom shelf in this open closet I have to bring in more storage and thought a bench at the end of the bed would look great, this one is vintage, we bought it on Facebook Marketplace. I knew I wanted something quicker with storage because in James' inspirational shots he had a lot of wicker furniture, it's like something your grandmother would have had. in the cabin and it will be a place for James' bedding, some pants, like anything that was stuffed under here will go here, so it's cute but also functional, my favorite combination for all the extra things James had , I'm just placing it. in these under bed storage bins, they are a great solution for organizing small spaces, now it's time to fill these shelves with books and my favorite part, the finishing touches, okay, stay there, okay, don't open your eyes, oh my god, oh my god, okay, before we open. oh my gosh, first of all, we love you so much and I'm so glad we can do this for you.

Okay, before you open your eyes, I want you to imagine what your space was like, what your room was like before I've been waiting so long to hear that, oh man, I mean, it started out as a foam mattress in the floor. um, yeah, there were good little pieces, but I needed someone with a vision to put it all together, you know, I love it. three, I'm literally shaking right now like I don't have, I'm so good, good, one two three, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, literally, I like to travel so much, oh, my God, so I I made a floor to ceiling bookshelf. for all your books, oh my gosh, so you can see them, they're color coded.
