USING TRASH TO CREATE TREASURE | CRAFT ROOM ORGANIZATION IDEAS | DIY | COCONUT | PEGBOARD

Feb 27, 2020
Hey guys and welcome back to have coffee with me sunshine and if you're new here welcome so I'm really glad you decided to come today because today is the day of my challenge and that is the challenge of

using

garbage to

create

treasure

s. every month I have a different co-host and this October it's April of the channel April Adair shares and she does some fabulous DIYs. If you like my channel you'll love hers, she does a lot of Dollar Tree DIYs. she does anything from

trash

to

treasure

, thrift to treasure, she also has a beautiful garden that she tends to in the summer and I absolutely love her, she is so lovely and is a huge inspiration to me and many others as I said. head over to their channel when you're done with mine and also when you're done with our channels click on the playlist so you can get tons more crap to treasure inspiration so for this challenge all you have to What to do basically is that it's very simple, you have to take something that you would normally throw away or recycle or something that someone else would have thrown away or recycled and turn it into something functional, a piece of home decor, anything you can think of that is recycling an item. , reuse or recycle it. and keep it out of landfills, so I'm really excited to see what everyone has

create

d and if you would like to see how I used these items that we were going to throw away to create a super functional and organized

craft

room

. please keep looking so to start I'm

using

this container that we got our deli meat from Costco and some pool noodles.

You can get these pool noodles usually at Dollar Tree or Michaels or something I don't know in the winter but I can find them there in the summer but all I'm going to do is cut a slit in the pool noodles, just one small indentation the size of the container and then I'm going to cut that piece and slide it to the side of the Tupperware Container and I make cuts in it and here I'm just cutting them deeper into the container because this is where I'm going to put my brushes and you would fill it with water to know when you are doing different

craft

More Interesting Facts About,

using trash to create treasure craft room organization ideas diy coconut pegboard...

You can soak it in water, rinse it, and then let it dry. Then for my next project, I'm going to use this

coconut

and quickly show you how we open this up. We had never done it before, but it turned out nice. Simple, you just poke holes in those eyes of the

coconut

with a screwdriver and then, like I don't know, you dig the little holes in there with the screwdriver and then you pour in the coconut water and then here my husband is taking a hammer and he smashes it around the line the coconut just to cut it in half and then take out the coconut meat and then I'm going to take the empty shell and with just some regular sandpaper I'm going to give it a good sanding on the inside which was super simple just to give it the rough edges, sand it because I'm going to paint them, so for the first one I'm just going to paint white and this is just regular acrylic paint.

Now I usually use the artistic ease of paints and for mine I only needed one coat, it covered very, very well and I think it's super pretty. I'm going to use them on my desk in my craft

room

and I'm painting the other one. This really pretty blue or teal color will also go on my desk in my craft room and I'll show you what I did with everything at the end and then for my next piece of junk, we had this giant board in our basement and my husband I cut it out because I only needed a small piece and I went ahead and just covered the back with sealer paint just because that's what I had blank in a lot of but you can use anything and then I because this side was so dirty I kept I went ahead and cleaned it up and now I'm just giving it a new coat of white paint and we were going to throw out the rest of the board because it's very warped and it's been in our basement forever.

I'm going to take this plastic container that usually has mixed nuts in it and I'm going to cover it with this burlap and I want it to be a little messy so I left the piece of burlap pretty big, it was just a scrap piece. that we had and I'm just hot gluing it around the entire jar and not gluing it on the top and I'm leaving a little bit of excess on the top because I think it looks really nice and rustic like I said it's a little sloppy but that's the look I'm going for and then I take some black thread or rope and I just tie it around the top and then I cut a little bit of the excess off the top because it was a little excessive and then I go to add some greenery, like I said, I'll show you everything I do at the end and how it turned out.
Next, I'm going to use these plastic containers, these spices that are obsolete, and I'm just going to give them away. a good clean and remove the labels which I use this, if I can't remove the labels by soaking them in hot soapy water I will take this sticky gun it works very very well to remove any residue left from the stickers and then Since I don't I really liked the look of that green lid for what I'm making, I grabbed this black lid from a similar jar and just swapped the lids because I wasn't sure if painting the lid would hold up at the time.
I'm going to paint this can with chalkboard paint and it's getting a little thin because I had to thin it with water because it's actually been in my garage and it was a little frozen because it's been very, very cold here, so this I'm telling you showing how I hung the board and I didn't realize that my husband and I were thinking we could just hang the board and we weren't really thinking about using the hooks to hold things on the board so anyway I'm showing you how not doing it at first and then I'll show you shortly what we did to correct my mistake on the

pegboard

, so we take the little cubby that I showed you at the beginning and we're actually hanging. sideways and as you can see on the

pegboard

below we added the spacer between the pegboard and the wall so that when we use the hooks they actually work and then to hide the spaces of the spacers we simply put a frame around the peg board and all we did was use some scrap wood under the peg, so this is the burlap container that I covered with greenery.
I think it's very pretty and these are the spice containers that I repurposed for my beads and then I'm using this blessed sign that I made last year. I can link the video if you are interested. I thought it looked really pretty and then for this copy I'm using it to organize and store all of my paintings so they're super easy to find. I can take a quick look to see what colors I need, you know if I'm at the craft store or whatever, but I think it looks really cool and it's super functional and organized.
This little cubby-type shelf was one that was in my daughter's. her room when she was very, very young and she was getting rid of it, so I thought we could reuse it. I didn't do much to change it because there's actually something written on the back that she and her friend did and I thought it was so cute I didn't show it but I didn't want to cover that kind of thing up and here are those coconut shells. I'm just using one to store my pins in my safety pins. I think it's functional and super cute at the same time.
At the same time and for the other one for now I'm just using this fake succulent and I'm going to put it in there just to add a little bit of color and I think it's really cute and this box was actually my grandmother's. so I thought it would look really cute on this shelf I bought. I bought it from Goodwill, it was 99 cents and I'm going to hang it on the board with some of the hooks that come with the board and that's it. I covered it with chalkboard paint and then I took a chalk pen and just wrote pens and pencils and then I'm using this galvanized bucket that I bought at Walmart not long ago.
I used it in a DIY for fall. I can list it. which if you're interested too and I'm just going to use it to hold my paintbrushes and I really like how everything turned out, it's going to keep me a lot more organized and I think it's pretty cool, these are those pegboard hooks. What I was talking about, it actually needs room to go into the holes in the board and clip onto the back, that's why we needed those spacers between the board and the wall and for the board, I just hung some of my paintbrushes for now. and some of my tools, I'm sure this will fill up quickly and then I used one of my glass jars that I tried to sell at the garage sale that no one bought and I'm just reusing it for my ropes and thread and things and here's a look closely at one of those jars and then this old paint bucket that I'm using for some of my fabric scraps and I have another desk in my craft room that I'm going to put this on.
So here is the final look. I love it. I love that everything I used was from

trash

or recycled items, it makes it that much more special. Like I said, when you're done watching my video, go to April's channel and watch. Tell him I sent you and show him some love. Also in the description box the playlist will appear so you can click on it and just watch a bunch of junk to treasure inspiration. I think this is cute. I left this little one. sticker that my daughter had put there when she was little. She just couldn't take it off me so let me know in the comments below if you still like this challenge because I love doing it.
I really think it's important that we get the word out and let people know how simple it is to recreate things or reuse them, recycle them into really amazing treasures and I think it's really important that, if possible, we keep more things out of the landfill. . I also wanted to let you know that I really appreciate all your love and support and all the sweet comments I get in the comments section and please if you don't get a response from me I read all the comments but sometimes I just don't have the time to follow. I'm willing to respond but I try and sometimes they get really late and I apologize for that but know that I love you and I really appreciate you all so I hope to see you next time bye.
