Using an Alaskan Mill to turn dead trees into wood you can use

May 10, 2020
Welcome to another episode of Burn Peak Express and today we're going to take a look at a new product that I've been wanting for a while before I show you the product. Many of you are not a light chainsaw. The guys wanted me to buy a big gas chainsaw, a real chainsaw, and I did. This is the old chainsaw I was

using

and it's electric and it burned out. Alright guys, I've been proven wrong, you can't do this all the time. with a $99 electric chainsaw it's probably not going to work so we got the 462 steel and today my Alaska saw

mill

arrived basically the same way the Alaska saw

mill

works - this metal frame surrounds the saw and sits on top of the trunk and allows you to use it to route boards.

I've never had one. I've never used one personally, so we'll take it out of the box, put it together, install it on the saw, and then. We're going to try to make some

wood

because the whole world is locked down and we're stuck here, so if we want to build things we're going to have to make the

wood

now. The reason I bought the Alaska Sawmill is a I know Eric has one and loves it, but it was also the most recommended by you in the comments. Get an Alaskan meal. Get an Alaskan meal. Get an Alaskan mill.

I've never actually been misdirected. I am very happy with the quality, how resistant everything is. It's how well thought out everything is, okay, this goes here, so it's actually something we have to adjust. We can change the depth of the cuts like this, but for now we're going to snap it into place, just a hole that's still I. I bet you I'm never going to take this off the chainsaw, okay, we'll go through there, we have to slide this one down, this will fit on this bar, no problem, I like how this thing is very secure, since this guard is going to prevent the end of the bar from touching anything.

The last thing you want to worry about is if you're about to cut someone's face off once they're in place. I can already tell it's going to be very sturdy, let's tighten this up real good, so the way this works is you hold on to the chainsaw and you hold on to this and you push it good, let's get this out here they are in try it this thing is sick maybe You should grab one end and I'll grab the other end the night is heavy but it's manageable it's really if a chainsaw is most of the weight this chainsaw weighs as much as my tiller okay let's go out and see what it's made of we're here I have my gear security post we have some wood from there that we are going to mill the first story time, literally story time, because all this happened on Instagram stories.

I went out with the electric saw and started milling that piece of wood which took a few minutes, but look, now they're square over here and I can keep making boards and I took out a board and smoke started coming out of the saw and I had a not good stop, That was the moment I decided I needed a grinder or a chainsaw and the reason I decided on the chainsaw is a grinder that weighs about eight nine hundred pounds. I can't move it, so I have to move all the wood with the chainsaw. I can go anywhere on the property.
It makes more sense. what we're doing even though it takes a little longer, so let's get this going and try to complain. Oh gosh, that's a really nice blank, actually, dude, this is so strong and so usable, and we're going to have so much. a lot of it you want to try it yeah I'll try it so to start you put it here and it will slide so you have to get close and try to make it as flat as possible like if you were

using

this thing. and push it down, one that's like slipped and all these things are on, so it's flat, this thing here is the chain break, if it's like this, you won't

turn

no matter how hard you hit the throttle when you hit it. so now the chainsaw is on so anytime you're not using it you're going to want to engage the chain brake this is pushed down so your hand goes over it and then you can hit the throttle and you're going to want to put these on. the chainsaw works to hit the cut, it would actually get caught in the blade and tangle it and prevent the chainsaw from spinning before it gets to your leg or that's the theory, your legs are kind of important so for the sky it's kind of as a training man, yes, it is not easy at all, let's see the docked planks.
Oh, your first board is pretty epic, we should do something with that. I'm really excited about this, it's a lot wetter here, yeah, it's for some reason that part isn't. It didn't really dry, there is such a serious piece of wood, so Alex has never seen this before, what do you think about it? It's great to know that these logs are relaxing here on your property, just lying here taking naps in the dirt and us. We're going to put them to work building amazing things right now, buy something like that, it's cool, it all happens here on Burpee, you know, Ezra had this whole record, we have two million, I think then you see that one over there and then there's another one.
Back there, yes, we will have a lot of building materials and then we can start going to other people's property if we run out. This is the real test because this is how we are going to find a tree in the forest. I have to grind it like this, so this is how we're going to do this. I'm going to take this table and place it on top of here. Now, although the trunk is not flat, you know that it has all the

dead

bark. and stuff everywhere we're going to run the mill over the top of this to get a flat board, once we have that flat board, then we can just run the mill over the wood that worked, so I originally set this up to take into account It counts for the board that we put on top, so now that the boards are not on top and I haven't reset the depth, it's a super thick board, it's like three and a half inches thick, but I'm going to stick with it because I think I can use this board for something so the saw just

turn

ed this thing off baby gasps I don't know what's in this tank but it's not much not for milling but this board looks really thick as soon as we stop cutting the chainsaw he runs back up here he's Being supervises mom is right behind him look how happy he is, let's see what he does when he starts the chainsaw, we did more work in less time than I used with that last grinder, I think we'll have to sharpen the chain after this, but that It is not like this.
Look at that slab, it's indestructible. You could drive a car over this. It would have been nice to get an extra board out of it, but hey, maybe we'll take this back to the shop. and clean it up and show you what it's going to look like we can make a bench or something with this we're going to have to take this to the Gator oh yeah we want to try to cut most of the crap out of this looks like it should do it so just cut the chalk line Now I'm going to use the circular saw to cut that chalk line you're going to have to turn it deaf I mean, shit, that's her DP, she says, I need a reference floor to put it on the table saw, so let me see where it falls and then I think I can cut the other side so we can just clean up the other side.
I would say that we have it very close. Did someone help you this last time, we can make a bench out of this, a proper peanut gallery where people can sit and look at things, yeah, so first I have to get the end flat. Right now, nothing is square so I have to make the N square, so I can cut a piece here and a piece there, put the big piece on top and use some wood locks to screw it together and now I have to wait for my miter saw to be able to go through it all the way, it's a good It may not be right, we did it, so what do you think is a good height for a bench?
Probably the same height as a chair. 19 inches tall. It's pretty good. This board is three and a half, so 15 and a half. Because? we're doing this, I can't tell you, we could have taken one of the thinner boards and broken it and everything would have been fine, but now we're on a tangent, check that puppy is okay once we cut it. We're already 90% done, oh she won't be the prettiest thing in the world because she didn't have the tools to pull it off, but that's pretty much the gist of it, I just put a couple of wooden locks towards each other side. and we have a cool bench that's pretty much what we put together for the mill in Alaska, we learned how to use it, made a plank too thick and started building some wood to use while we're stuck here.
On Burn Peak you guys posted the reviews a million times and got a great recommendation for an Alaskan mill, that thing is amazing, it's so well built they've obviously been around a long time so they worked out all the bugs but it's a really great product. I hope you enjoyed the video if you haven't subscribed to Burn Peak Express yet, there's a different channel than the other and thanks for joining me today. I'll see you next time. Look who decided to join us. We will have to do it. get him out of here with the chainsaw but he's taking himself for a puppy Oscar you gotta get out of here we gotta get you back to the house buddy this is no place for I think he's growling this is no place for a French baby
