Now that the move to Dallas is complete, I have to go back to New York for a while because I haven't seen my parents in about three months, so I have to go check on them and I also have a lot of stuff. I realized I needed to bring them back to New York and they're pretty fragile so I thought I'd drive, plus it's crab season so on the way I'll stop by New Orleans, pick up some Cajun Creole

food

and then maybe stop by A couple of days in Atlanta, place I've never really explored before, but yeah, along the way again it almost seems like peaks and valleys, I see almost hills in the distance.

my order. I am very excited to return to Louisiana. People always say if I want really good Cajun food, I have to come to Lafayette, and if you don't know, there's a difference between Cajun food and Creole food. and the most basic difference is that Creole food is more elegant it is more urban in Cajun food there is more

country

side it has home cooking there is no tomato base to accompany it I have a crab itofe this is one of the most popular dishes in Cajun and

creole

cooking and they gave me some jalapeno grits on the side and then I got some garlic bread which is always good and when you're in Louisiana you have to eat some alligator so fried alligator and some ice cream to go with it my bread pudding.

I tried this last time I was in New Orleans, this dish is basically crab tails, it's cooked in sauce with rice on top, that's so good, tender little pieces of crab, I missed all that great Cajun seasoning and I think this really it would go very well. well with the fried alligator it tastes a lot like chicken, if you didn't tell me it was alligator I would tell you it was chicken nuggets, oh yeah jalapeño grits is a must get if you are around here. I love how the flavor intensifies as you make it. chew, I'm trying to speed up these dishes because I have this ice cream that's going to melt soon and I need to put it on top of my bread pudding, otherwise I'll never forgive myself.
I love how tender the crab is and I also highly recommend the fried one. crocodile than in the crab I don't know which one is more tender, I mean, crocodiles give a pretty tough image but in reality at least in this soft and tender case I have to get to my bread pudding before this ice cream melts first of all This is a giant hunk of bread pudding they definitely don't skimp on portions in the south. Hello, look at that scoop of ice cream. This is definitely the biggest piece of bread pudding I have ever had and it is one of the best bread puddings.
It's not something I eat all the time, but lord this is good, you taste the sweet cinnamon dancing in perfect harmony with that vanilla ice cream and for me, bread pudding is all about the texture, it can't be too much soft for me, I wanted to chew a little something else 100 delivers the crush is nice because the texture is a little different and when I open this, you know, I saw how big it was, I think, this doesn't taste good, it's going to be very hard to go down, but just the most perfect texture with squish on top and bottom giving off a little bit of a slightly different texture and that vanilla ice cream just elevates something that is already incredibly delicious so even new levels of yum I can't believe it.
I'm almost done with this, I've been sitting here enjoying every bite of this and you look down, it's almost gone, time flies when you're having fun, the seat belt already feels a little tight, which may not be a big deal. thing because, uh, down. The street here I don't know if it still exists, but the last Popeyes buffet, Popeye's all-you-can-eat buffet, used to be there before you know it, the whole Cove situation forced it to close, so I tried calling them. I can't talk to anyone on the phone, so I'm going to drive down the street.
I can watch it right now with Popeyes and see if Popeye's last buffet is still alive and well, there it is, it's Mike Chen reporting live from Lafayette, Louisiana, the last one. The Popeyes buffet is not open yet, they said it's not completely finished, it's not completely closed, so I hope one day this will open again, thank you, so this is the chicken. There's too much I want right now. Okay, so this is the place. I heard you have to stop when you're in Lafayette, so right behind me is Billy's bar. If you don't know what a Buddhism is basically, a stuffed sausage, so I have Billy's building.
I don't know what's here. something green maybe it's the holy trinity, I hope, and then I got the crab building, let me, uh, yeah, I just want to be hygienic with this look at this beautifully filled sauce, you can see the little bits of crab in here, it's so incredibly good . It tastes like stuffed jambalaya instead of pork belly, it tastes like all those great Cajun spices in here and this stuff is burning my tongue right now inside delicious rice covered in sauce and again you can see the crab chunks all wrapped up. in such a spicy flavor. on your list of things to try wow my mouth is on fire I love it it's not just like burning it's so happy because there are so many seasonings and spices in there and this is the billy building I don't know what's in here seriously , you passed by. lafayette you don't get one of these it's like you've never been here I love you so much I think it has some liver in here strands of meat I definitely try some celery so maybe the holy trinity is here one of the best things I've ever had in Louisiana.
Oh, so this is the crack coin. You can see how red it is on the outside. They don't mess around when it comes to spices here in Louisiana. Sorry, I wasn't going to get this. The lady behind the. counter she was basically like just try one try one try one try one I have to order a bag right away but look at this this is a construction ball I think this is chicken but it's a baseball sized piece of what It looks crunchy but I'm sure there's stuff inside, oh my goodness, inside there's rice, there's celery, it's chunks of ground beef, all stuffed inside this crispy, delicious, fried outer layer, how could I not have known it existed something like this?
You can see its nice mix of fat and lean. with the holy trinity makes all of this angelic the last thing i bought is an egg roll with pepper jack cheese beyond its ultra crispy outer layer stuffed with cheese and meat like crunchy fatty cheese and every bite i'm taking of any of these food The items make me want to kick myself for not eating them the last time I was here. This is a food that you cannot miss. If you're in this part of the

country

, if you go to New Orleans, it's a two and a half hour drive.
It's worth it here, I had to go get two more bags of chicharrones and what's different from chicharrones to fried chicharrones or something like that is that chicharrones also have a little bit of fat from the meat, which means a lot more flavor, oh my goodness. I have to cover the chicken with chiles and I also have a lot of fat in here. I have a half pound bag. I don't think it's enough. Good morning. Oh, this is the only place open right now. I thought there would be a lot more food places. In fact, it will be open that early.
Ah, this city is definitely a nicer city. I always look forward to starting my day with some of these interesting things. Yes, for some reason you are an interesting person. Much doughier than I remembered. I swallow a little harder still. Not bad, today is my main food day in New Orleans and I leave early tomorrow morning. I have my day planned. You know, as soon as the restaurants open, we'll start with some crabs because it's crab season. I'm really excited about that, that's in about four. hours and then definitely some grilled oysters. I'm going to a po boy place.
I heard it's amazing and I'll 100 go back for the butter shrimp which is one of my favorite things to eat here but I'm thinking now about eating this and maybe going back and sleeping a little longer because nothing was really open until around 11. I was expecting a big plate of crawfish as soon as I bought it, there are several people in New Orleans who treated me to an authentic backyard crawfish boil and I really really want to go, but given the current situation I probably haven't yet. It's nice to be around a group of people, so here I am, that's cider, seafood, I haven't been here before, but I heard good things, this is my appetizer, it's called a volcano, this thing is pretty crazy, it's a taco upside down topped here with crab meat, cheese, sesame seeds, some kind of dressing and then on the bottom you have these beautiful slices of seared tuna.
I'm thinking about splitting this up and making a little combo plate with this wow, my goodness, this crab meat here too inside the volcano must have been a sacrifice, you know, before it erupted. Oh, there's shrimp too. This is like the most elaborate seafood salad. It's pretty good. Charlotte. I mean, it's mostly just crab. tuna and shrimp, so there's a big emphasis on the seafood part of the seafood shallot, which I had no problems with the tuna good shrimp, they're nice and plump. You will definitely get a lot of seafood with a salad. My crab is ready, of course you get your crab. boiled per pound so now it's 4.99 a pound and to eat this pretty simple twist, the tail comes off immediately, suck on the head, oh that's delicious, twist the tail, something nasty comes out, they can practically just suck the meat out, That's so good anytime.
I'm here, I never have a bad crabbing session. I was actually going to have crabs in Lafayette, I just didn't have enough time, but these, oh my gosh, oh this is good. Look at it. I am always happy in terms of taste. The head is the best part is really where all the flavors reside. You see that right there, that yellow thing that is miso. Oh yeah, that's good. This place right here, the crab is spicy after about 10 of them, I'm starting to feel my tongue burning and coming with. a big burst of citrus flavor because they added all these orange peels when they were boiling the crabs and I really didn't like eating crabs.
I think the first time I really enjoyed it was my last time here in New Orleans because friends. They take spice seriously here and they take spiciness seriously. I don't even think you can choose a non-spicy version of this, it will always be spicy. The other thing I love about this is that I'm eating like a five pound plate right now, don't be intimidated by this because these crabs you know don't have that much meat, but after eating a big plate like this you feel a of achievement, a great aroma of garlic, look at this aspect.
In this, it's basically chili oil, like natural chili oil formed from crayfish, and you also get the feeling that this is not really a

tour

ist place. Everyone sitting right now looks like they're just going to lunch. I said it last time. I was listening to the double whammy of Louisiana Cajun country, the best, most unique, most flavorful local native food you'll find in the country. This is the kind of thing you won't find anywhere else. I mean, you can go to a crawfish boil inNew York and Whatever your frozen crawfish is, it's like $12 a pound. This thing goes from a fishing container to the restaurant every day and then it's on your table. 4.99 oh this is so cool they just sent me.
This is the totem. Look at this. soft shell crab between a couple of pieces of fried eggplant, I'm not exactly sure how to start eating this brilliant crab cake sitting on top of a soft shell crab and take a little break from my crabs and eat a totem 100, come and Get this, this is a bomb, as the kids will say nowadays, mmm, super crunchy soft shell crab, this is your first crunch, the second subtle crunch is from the eggplant and just put this all together, this is ridiculously well I'm so glad they brought it to us because this is not something I ordered and I would miss telling you how good it is so you may have missed it but none of us will miss it.
Oh, this is so good, there's also a layer of creamy cheesy sauce on the bottom. Oh my god, I'm in complete denial. my crawfish right now, all a hulking shit of its own shell, look at all that big tamale, so this is all my crawfish dish, as it looks now and I see, I feel a sense of accomplishment, good, thank you , thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, I'm sorry. like I've done something useful today my hands are a little raw and my tongue burns but it's a good feeling yeah I feel good so it's important it's just surreal to eat so many crabs and get your check which only costs 20 and so many dollars.
Oh, by the way, if I'm going to do this next time, I'll get something like a hot dog. I have crab guts on me, although it smells pretty good, but after a big seafood breakfast and five pounds of crab, I know what everyone is thinking. There's really only one thing to do after all that. go find a pool boy, okay can I get a six inch shrimp or a six inch roast beef? This way I get the best of both worlds. I've been hearing good things about this place for a long time. or this place is amazing, where the subway has been lying to me my whole life, it's two six inch subs, they are extremely big, heavy and burly, and it makes me very happy right now, so I have the two guys po most popular the first one is the fried shrimp i feel like i'm rolling out like a red carpet right now la da da there it's fully loaded fried shrimp po boy it's definitely not six inches it's way bigger than that oh my god look at this loaded with tomatoes and fried shrimp lettuce mayonnaise pickles too oh my gosh oh my gosh please do yourself a favor when you're in New Orleans come and try these words won't do it justice I'll try it first of all this thing is loaded with fried shrimp I'm not alone testing a dough, see how big, plump and juicy the shrimp are.
The shrimp themselves are so juicy, they are seasoned perfectly and the crispy outer layer is accentuated by the sweet tomato, the crunchy sour pickles and this bread, oh my goodness there is bread, please come and try this one. I bite, I can feel my heart start to race and that's not just because I'm eating fried food, there are really emotions here. I have eaten many roast beef sandwiches in my life. I'm sure you've eaten a lot of roast beef. sandwiches in your life, have you seen roast beef this juicy before? Okay, so the bread is freshly loaded.
I mean, they needed a forklift to lift all this meat onto this bread. This is going to be a disaster. Wait a second. Sorry, I need some. Inside I chewed it, I took several bites I still can't believe how tender the fish with meat is, this is the one that falls apart the most, it melts in the mouth, tender cuts of meat, maybe it will someday appear inside a sandwich Roast beef, it's a mouthful that I never want to finish the sauce drenched in this delicious chewy loaf of bread. I had a piece in my mouth and just because of gravity the rest just fell into the wrapper, but this is one of my favorite cities to visit, not just for the food because of the haunted houses too, you know, everywhere have a little break with some avogadro, it's great, it's a little place where they have six different flavors of avocado, one of the most popular desserts in New Orleans or nola, every time I say nola to someone, people always ask.
Yo, what is Nola ah? Banana Foster is one of the most popular desserts in New Orleans and this is an Avogadro, so I started loving Avogadro when I was hosting this ice cream show for Complex and I did this episode with um jada which was like a dream come true. and she told me that Italians would eat this every day in the afternoon to cheer me up, so I started making it. I'm not a big coffee person, but I like iced coffee, so I'm hoping these are the mayonnaise I have. I've been looking, I just want to say, first of all, these are flaky pastries and the middle is empty and they put chocolates with powdered sugar of course on top, I predict, be prepared for a little crunch.
Wow, incredibly good, it's so flaky on the outside. It tastes like a little crispy croissant on the outside the inside it's warm, flaky and sweet with this deliciously buttery like praline cream do yourself a favor come here and get this stuff it tastes like a warm loving hug so incredibly light and again that cello crunch listen listen listen just know like a soft lullaby hmm three easily and I wish I had one more I can't leave New Orleans without some grilled oysters and grilled shrimp this is the most outrageous grilled oyster dish ever I've ever seen something just a fundamentally unholy, extremely heavenly war about this garlic parsley cheese bubbling in these fresh oysters and look at this crazy looking garlic bread and this is my barbecue shrimp, you guys make this different way than most people usually eat barbecue shrimp.
Do you have a cider baguette? The thing is they dug a hole in the baguette and put the shrimp in OMG OMG it's like kissing with flames when you take a bite. I can't believe I've never been to this place before. A little lemon juice. plus plump juicy oysters grilled to absolute perfection, as cheesy as they are with garlic, I found a pearl there it is, can I pay for this meal with this is 100, oh yeah, at least a hundred thousand dollars, I'm done with this little one YouTube thing? this of this dip the baguette in that grape butter yeah wow these are delicious grilled oysters just be careful when you bite into them because you get a pearl yourself they can be removed like me grill shrimp again I never had them like this before, sauce, everything that's inside this bun, oh man, I don't even know what I'd like more than shrimp with sauce, this is so rich and buttery, but at the same time it's not too much, so you keep wanting more, it's amazing, it's great.
Place I feel like this time in New Orleans I've been to a lot of new places that I've never been to before, at least one of them just shines so much, exceptional places I went to on this occasion, great food and a pearl of A million dollars, not bad. day in new

orleans

i'm going to pass this on to my son okay get ready for mike chang's ghost

tour

of new

orleans

abridged edition because i'm not going to walk much so the first place i'm going to is called the andrew jackson hotel which is next door end of the street there.
In fact, I've been thinking if I should have taken this ghost tour because my check for the oyster place turned out to be exactly 48 dollars and 48 cents now, if you're Chinese, do you know why? that's bad in Chinese it's subbasaba or sebasta it's about war, die, die, so yeah, that was my check and now I'm going on a ghost tour. I don't make the best decisions in life, that's the infamous Andrew Jackson hotel, you know what? like there are a ton of hotels on this road, one that seems more haunted than the other, I'm sure all these ghosts love each of these places, seriously, look at this real 905 hotel, even the sign looks haunted, but this is the andrew jackson hotel.
It was originally built in the 18th century and that was when yellow fever was ravaging New Orleans, a lot of people were dying so they needed a boarding school for all the children who were left without parents, of course yellow fever means something completely different. Nowadays anyway, this place was originally a boarding school and apparently a fire devastated New Orleans in the 1890s and this place burned down and some of the children died in the fire and the ghosts of those children are said to haunt the hotel to this day. especially in room 208 like some guy woke up his tv was on he swore he turned it off before he went to bed and when he got up and looked at the tv some kid was sitting there watching tv idk what boy from as you know, from the 19th century he knows how to operate a remote control I don't know, I don't know, but that's what happened when he screamed, of course, the boy disappeared, there are also giggling sounds, um, I think someone was pushed out of his bed and In addition to the ghost of the boys, there is also the ghost of an innkeeper, apparently there is also the ghost of Andrew Jackson, but just by looking at this you know something is going on there, so I have been standing here for about 10 minutes or so.
I've been waiting for maybe someone to come out of the hotel so I can have a personal interview and see if they had any chills or experiences there, but no one has come out, at least no one I can see, so I'm heading to the next place, the next place which one we're going to, oh, right here, I was walking underneath without even realizing it, this is the infamous Laurie Mansion, this is not only one of the most haunted buildings in New Orleans, it's one of the most haunted buildings in the country, like this that the story goes that there was a woman named Delphine Lalorie and she was basically tormenting and killing her servants in the house, torturing them to death until finally people found out because one of the people she was torturing escaped and jumped.
The balcony attracted attention and the police came in, but she somehow escaped and was never seen again and to this day the people who lived there hear footsteps, hear screams, moans, Nicolas Cage, so that added to the Damn, but yeah. There's this kind of spooky ooze, anyway, which concludes Mike Chen's ghost tour of New Orleans. The only addition I see in this video. I was able to put food and a scary story at the same time. Anyway, the wind is blowing up the clouds. It should rain soon, so I'll head back to my hotel, hit the gym, and head to Atlanta tomorrow morning.
I hope you all enjoyed this food tour of Cajun country as much as I loved eating it, as always. I will place a winter. Listen below for yourselves. Thank you all so much for watching until we eat again. See you later.
