Are you ready for this? Right now I'm in New Orleans Right now I'm in New Orleans. I've been here once before. I never went
foodscouting, I never went on a 'ghost run' I feel like I haven't even been here What's wrong with me? But today we are going to change all that,
foodadventure, New Orleans edition. Right now, a breakfast sandwich, but it's a big sandwich. Now a lot of people like me definitely know the difference between Creole and Cajun, and there actually is a big difference. I mean, if you're only talking about food, the simplest way to describe it is criollo, it's city food. and
cajunis more comfort food, country food.
In Creole, they use tomatoes and Cajun. Tomatoes were never used. Lots of similar ingredients, but really it's all about the people and their heritage. Anyway, we're at our first location, Crabby Jack's. Let's go for one of the must eat foods here in New Orleans, Po' Boys. If you don't know, Po' Boy is basically a sandwich and it's made with French bread and it's usually stuffed seafood in the middle. Today we are going to receive one with duck. Let me show you what I ordered Slow Cooker Pork Chops with Creole Seasoning Drenched in the Oyster Mushroom Sauce with the Trinidad Ingredients.

If you don't know that the Trinidad is celery, green peppers, and onions Sitting next to a bed of dirty rice, this is so dirty, if you're not over 18, you might have to turn around right now. . Homemade pork rinds and then of course the duck sandwich This is the main thing that brought me here Look how airy, first of all this bread. Lettuce and tomato on top and look at the duck meat dipped in sauce. I'm a little too excited right now. I almost love this bread as much as I love the melted, roasted duck meat inside.
This is amazing duck, tender and slow cooked to perfection. the bread because both are so tender and soft. Light crunch from the pickles and lettuce and then the creaminess of the mayonnaise. And when you want something completely different in texture, chicharrón de cerdo. It's so good. You will be addicted to this omg. The most crunchy, the lightest with a touch of Creole seasoning. I don't even know what's better at this point Grabbing my Po' boy Let's crack it open Some of these sizzle in here So you should definitely try that. Duck stuffing, duck stuffing, I mean, this is a mess.
The duck will fall all over the place, the tomato will slide, the pickle will stare you in the face from the table and you will love each, every bite of this That woke me up Hello New Orleans. And this is a special they have going. This is the pork chop stuffed with rice. I'm lovin 'it. It's great. It's the meatiest dirty rice I think I've ever had, but this sauce, seriously, is all there is good in this world on one plate. I'm beyond happy right now. That's why every time I go somewhere I always ask people if there's anything on the menu I should try.
And they recommended this today, it's the special. I'm so happy. This is a great place. You have to come here if you are ever in New Orleans. The nicest, nicest people. Alright, I have to wrap this up and move on to round two. I'm in the heart of a French Quarter chasing one of my all-time favorite dishes, the Jambalaya. And I hear this place right here, Gumbo Shop, makes one of the best. I'm trying the seafood one here for the first time. I love the pieces of seafood. There's a ton here, it's definitely loaded like the ocean.
Very thick, slightly viscous. It was a good gumbo like I said, not the best I've ever had. I'm mainly here for the Jambalaya The Jambalaya, I've heard this is one of the best places for it, but it's called the Gumbo House, right? I had to get a gumbo. The first time I ate jambalaya, I was at a restaurant in New York. I didn't even know what a jambalaya was and I bought it because it said rice and I love rice, but after my first bite, that was it. I started looking all over the city for the best Jambalaya, I could never find one.
It's a meaty, meaty Jambalaya. And that's the kind I like Chicken or seafood. You have your surf and turf covered. Santísima Trinidad here the rice is also tender. The sauce is slightly sweet, spicy and tomato-y, not overwhelming. I mean it definitely brings you here, you know? This is really satisfying my Creole craving right now So come here have jambalaya Maybe not the gumbo After a morning full of carbs let's do some seafood First on the agenda is BBQ Shrimp. Mr B's Bistro is supposed to have one of the best. Change of clothes because the jambalaya attacked me a bit, new shirt.

BBQ Shrimp Cooked in Creole Seasoning Monster, monster shrimp. The aroma of Creole spice. It seems that if you don't even get close to this shrimp, it just smacks you in the face. If you come to New Orleans and miss this dish, get yourself a return ticket. This is like one of the best best best dishes you can find here. Come here and get it omg this is so amazing.
The sauce, a little pepper? Perfect Smoky, smooth, buttery with the sauce just adding that perfect balance of flavor and creaminess to the sweetness of the shrimp Best thing about this little sauce Grab your bread Let's dip. This is one of the most submersible sauces/broths ever. I mean it's perfectly made for your bread Bread meets your soul mate Wow, I could eat a whole loaf of bread. Just this and the sauce, that's all I need. This wonderful lady just reminded me that I have this crusty baguette(?) and I didn't even notice. This is the perfect vehicle for the sauce Thank you food fairy Woman: You're welcome And I know that's mostly the butter, like I feel like my arteries are getting a little clogged, but I don't even care Those are so good.
So good. There's the traditional gumbo. Chicken, andouille sausage, rice. And this gumbo here, it's a little thinner than what I had at the gumbo store and it looks a lot less sticky. Which will make me very happy. Whole pieces of andouille sausage Good big pieces of chicken The meat is good, the sausage is great. It has a nice, nice warmth. Perfect amount of heat. I remember the last time I was in New Orleans, the only food item I remember the most was grilled oysters. This place is supposed to have one of the best. Acme Oyster House Here, I have to go for the charred grilled oysters.
A dozen no, it might not even be enough, but let's start with a dozen Hell yeah beautiful beautiful Still sizzling in its own shell Covered in cheese and herbs and seasoning this Too appealing. I'm kind of on edge seeing him in front of me right now. Man: Curtis I think Curtis Man: I promise, that's the one Alright, Smoked Tabasco, Grilled Oysters, a dash of Smoked Tabasco Curtis was right That's a game changer 'Cause you already have a ton of butter and cheese about the oysters. With a little Tabasco? It definitely adds more depth to the already simply delicious oysters, oh this is the best part. A little Tabasco and you have to dip your bread in the oyster juice and cheese and butter. Very good. Too good.
I missed this so much the last time I left New Orleans that I have to go back more often. You can't miss the food here. You can't miss it. I was eating all day. I think it's time for dessert. Uhm, Broussard's. Let's go buy bread pudding. Oh, here it is. Bread pudding topped with praline sauce Bursting, warm, love the crunch of the praline sauce. It seems that it may be too sweet. Not at all. Just a great aroma from the spices inside the pudding and the sweet walnut praline sauce on top. This is one off the charts bread pudding.
Oh my God. I'm so happy. Unbelievable, unbelievable. A slow ovation is needed for this bread pudding This is a Banana Foster, a New Orleans specialty dessert Butter, brown sugar, a little rum making fire. There it is, Banana Foster This is really cool, I mean, if you like your bananas licked on fire, drenched in rum and sugar, and let's be honest, who doesn't? You will like this. I mean it tastes exactly like all the ingredients you added in there. It's a little buttery. Obviously very, very sweet. Tons of rum flavor. I like bread pudding better, but this one is really good.

And just a reminder, it's cash only so I need to go find an ATM. I feel like I'm looking like a deliciously fried snow covered mountain. Oh man, they don't skimp on powdered sugar.
And these are two orders here. You could slide down this thing. Uhm this is, look at that, that's all powdered sugar. No way am I going to take a bite out of it with all that powdered sugar. So sugar avalanche here we come. Perfectly golden, fried, a little toasted on the outside. I wouldn't say it's the lightest thing in the world, I mean it will definitely settle in your stomach and fill you up, but it's incredibly chewy and flavorful. I feel like I need a little more powdered sugar with it. I really do. If you're eating that on a windy day, you're going to look like a snowman after this.
There really is no non-messy way to eat this. And I don't normally drink coffee, but I do drink a bitter liquid. Not the best start to my day, it's a hot, sweet, sugary, toasty, guilty treat. That will really coat you in sugar after you're done. One more thing to try before you leave town. I wish I was here another week to eat at all the restaurants, but thank you. Oh thanks, I guess that's just an excuse to come back. I will see you there. I'm here at Clesi and this is a recommendation from a local friend of mine.
He says this is a place to go for crabs here and they cook it all in the open air. When I order it, they are cooking it. Are you ready for this? Now I'm in New Orleans. East? This is the prawn
boil, and the end of the prawn season is near. So all the
crawfishare big and they are just cooking them right next to the dining room outside. You can see them
boiling everything They're boiling a decent crab and some lemons go in Secret Ingredients and they steam it and soak it and I'm told the longer they sit in the brew the better they taste These are huge crabs Look at the tongs on this honey .
And this is how you eat one of these things. Break the tail like this, right there. Look at all that meat in the tail and there's all that good stuff, right on the head. And make sure that when you are sucking on the head you are also squeezing it. So you're getting all that good stuff. Oh this is so good, this is so good, I'm a crayfish zombie. I'm proud of it. Give me the rings And a crab the size Don't forget the tongs. Just use your teeth like a shell cookie and just suck on that sweet meat.
And remember guys, if it's not messy, you're not doing it right. Dig in. This is the kind of fun food. You can taste New Orleans in each of these crabs. The Cajun spices, the chiles, the herbs, the local freshness of the ingredients. This is my favorite food in the Big Easy. Sure I promise this is so amazing even the corn so sweet and juicy and again drenched in this chili. All this great sauce Thank you so much Preston for giving me this recommendation. It's amazing.
