Trash to Treasure Upcycle ⭐Thrift Store Makeover

Feb 27, 2020
Hey guys, welcome back to my DIY homeless list. I've been working all week on garbage to save videos for you. These projects have been taking me forever, but I have finished them. I'm very excited, I'm very proud of them and today I'm going to show you three of those projects, so I realized when I was at the garage sale the other week, shopping, that I hadn't made a regular chair in my video for you. and I was on the other side of the field and there was this. nice wooden chair and one lady had it priced at $6.

I asked her for four and she took them. It was a little late on Saturday, so he thinks she thought I was the only one coming to pick them up, so I spent. four dollars for this chair, which I thought was a great deal when I saw the chair. I knew it had to be a nice duck egg lung painting and you know a good loan is probably one of my favorite paints and I love the duck egg color. so i decided to paint in this color so with chalk paint there is really no need for preparation as long as the wood is in very good condition all you need to do is clean it and you can start paying right away so when I'm painting a chair.

More Interesting Facts About,

I like to start at the bottom first, so I'll turn it over so the chair is face down, then I'll start at the bottom and spindles I'll give it my first layer once I have the bottom. When I'm done, I'll turn it over and make the top. I like to do the bottom first because I always feel like if paint falls off, I want to make sure I get it on the front before it has a chance to dry. I'll do the front next, once it has a chance to dry I'll go in and apply a second coat of chalk paint next.

I wanted this piece to be nice and worn, so I decided I was going to get it wet. you want to take any old rag and just wet it and then wring it out then you're going to take it and act like it's sandpaper and just wipe where you want the paint to be removed now this piece I didn't wet this dress as easily as some of the others so I had to apply a little force to the elbow to get it to wear off, but I just went around the piece and removed the paint where I thought I would.

It looks good now to liven up this chair a little bit. I thought it would look cool if I made a really cool template for it. I found this little lace, laser stencil at Walmart, it was a Waverly stencil and I think it was in between. two dollars wasn't more than two dollars so what I decided to do was place it on the top of my chair where the seat is and I thought it would be cool if I did it a few times on the chair and took a few pieces hanging off, so the First thing I'm doing now I'm slightly hanging the template from the chair so it stays in place.
If you tape around the edges, it will stay in place while you paint with chalk. use Waverly white chalk paint and a sponge brush and what you want to do is just lightly dab the paint on there you don't want the brush to get saturated because then you're going to get really sticky looking underneath and the great thing about that. The template is - you can pick it up and see, as it is very intricate. I just kept picking it up and making sure I got all the areas once you finish the template, take it off and that's what you're left with.
I made a layer on each of my templates. I went ahead and made two more templates on the seat of the chair as well. Alright, you guys comment below and tell me what you think of this template. Do you think it gives the chair something extra? Isn't it your favorite? I'd like to hear your thoughts next, after the stencil has a chance to dry, you'll go in and seal it like I like to seal my chairs, with a nice long clear wax. What this product does is it goes on and has a wax like consistency and then hardens over time and gives your piece a really nice clear finish so the way I like to apply clear wax is with any rag that doesn't shed lint and you'll dab it on the clear wax, rub it on your piece and then you like to use the same cloth to remove the excess.
You don't want too much clear wax left because then it will be damaged. It doesn't harden so you just have to make sure you distribute it evenly over the entire piece and then this usually takes a couple of days until it's firm and just barely and here's the final product. Well, our next project is a coke. bag/key organizer, it really could be either one, it would be very functional if it came in through the front door and it looks amazing so I went to Habitat for Humanity and at my Habitat for Humanity they have a whole bin just of doors cabinets, these are probably some that have fallen off from other things, so I bought this cabinet door for a dollar, which I think is a great deal, so I needed to fill in where the handle was because I didn't want it to be seen now, normally I would probably use wood. filler for that but I didn't have it on hand so one trick is I like to use joint compound whenever I need it and for some reason we always have this in our house so I just filled the hole with some joint compound together and once that had a chance to dry, I just sanded it to remove the excess on top, then I'm going to use the Waverly moss color, guys, I've been using this color a lot lately, you'll see it and probably my next video.
Mind you, but I love this moss green color, it's great, so what I'm going to do is apply two coats to this piece of Waverly moss. Then I'll go in and dunk. distress this piece and this piece was great in the distressing I mean it came off and was super chipped. I had to be careful with it because it was removing a lot of paint, but you can distress as little or as much as you want. For the sticker here I wanted to use something that is easy to get and that you guys can get, so I grabbed this home sweet home sticker that they have at Dollar Tree and thought about how easy that would be.
I put it on there and it actually fits perfectly on this board so I'm just going to put that sticker on so I really wanted to put some pretty hooks in here to make it functional for me and I went to Home Depot and the cheapest one. The hooks I found were about three. I think there was one that was less than $3 each and I thought that wasn't going to work, so I went to Amazon and found this five-pack of hooks for $7, so that was the cheapest hook I found. I was able to find and will link below the hooks I bought so I bought them they arrived at my door in two days because I have a crime attaching these hooks to my board all we did was drill holes in the board attach the hooks and then We used the screws that were provided to hold the hooks in place.
Now I have an option for you if you don't want to spend the $7 on the hooks. When I was at Dollar Tree I found this long hook system that you can actually hang. right on the wall and I thought, hey, you could hang this on that board, you could just screw it to the actual board and you could always paint it black too with a little spray paint to make it look like the hook, so that's an option if You want something that's only $1 and then to hang it on the wall we just added a hanging system on the back where you can hang it directly on the wall and here's a look at the final project.

the videos, give me the go-ahead so I know what I should do more, let's see if we can get this video to reach 5,000 likes. The next project I'm going to do is really different. When I was saving, I found this and thought it was garbage. hoarding it was great but basically it was this metal candle holder that I thought would look great outside and you guys have been asking me for items to put outside on your patio, well this is one of them so this piece was six dollars. and that seemed a little steep to me and normally I would have said I don't know, but I really wanted to do it as a project for you guys, so I went ahead and bought it.
The first thing they want to do is spray paint. I decided to use some white spray paint, so I applied two coats of white spray paint over everything. I don't like things to look perfect. I wanted it to look a little worn, but since I use spray paint I needed to put paint on top of what I already did, so I just used some black and gray acrylic paints and I lightly apply those paints to the piece now, sometimes when you put paint on it It can look very hard and fake, so I don't like the look. of that, a trick to make it look more realistic is to take the same foam brush with some white paint and apply it over the areas that you just applied, that will really mute that. down so you can't see it as much, but at the same time you can still have that haunted look.
I just arrived with a Dollar Tree battery operated candle, it fits perfectly in the little candle holder and then I also decided I wanted to dress it up with some greenery. I got this sprig of greenery from Hobby Lobby. Guys, I took pieces of it off and used it all over my house, so it was definitely worth it. You'll probably need to get another one of these, but I'm going to tear off a small piece of this greenery and wrap it around the base of this candle. You can hot glue it to the back to give it a little something. color I decided to buy some lavender from Walmart and I'm just going to glue it around the greenery and hot glue it in place and then here is the final project, you can display it inside or outside if you love to see it.
