Tip On Saving Money When Buying Electronic Drums

May 31, 2021
Hey, what's up, Justin? Getting back to the channel,

electronic

drum sets are incredibly expensive, which is why I decided to make this really comprehensive guide on how to save

money

on a drum kit, whether it's new gear or not, or you use gear now, of course, if you're willing to. Buying used

electronic

batteries will save you the most

money

of anything on this list, but I also want to cover how to save money on new equipment. I realize there are people who refuse to buy anything used and I totally agree. get it, so I'm going to show you how to get a free gift card worth hundreds of dollars, free kick pedals and hi-hat stands and such, or just save a couple hundred dollars on your drum purchase now to set the stage. for the rest of the video.
tip on saving money when buying electronic drums
I need to mention three things. The first is that there are scammers out there. I keep thinking they're gone and then all of a sudden I see a new scam pop up. an ad for an electronic battery, the last one I saw was nitro mesh analysis, that battery cost $350, they were trying to sell it for $89, it turned out the website only had two pages, a home page and a page trying to sell this battery. If you had given your money to that website, it would have disappeared. There is an active group of people trying to scam people and this has been going on for a few years.

More Interesting Facts About,

tip on saving money when buying electronic drums...

The second thing I want to mention is that MSRP is not a good way. To judge if you are getting a deal on this battery, the MSRP is the manufacturer's suggested retail price, which is a fake, really high price that makes the real price look good. You see the MSRP for this battery is $6,500 and now I have a 23%

saving

s and the battery is now $5000, what a deal, the problem is every website in the world is selling the TD 50k for $5000, on It's actually not for sale now. The third thing I want to mention very quickly is something called map pricing if you worked in retail you may know what this is it's called the minimum advertised price so every time a music store hits a agreement to become a distributor or dealer for a battery company, they end up having to sign an agreement or have some type. of unspoken agreements where they are not allowed to advertise a battery for a certain price agreed upon by that battery company, so unfortunately due to map prices no website can prove that they are selling a TD 50k, for For example, for less than $5,000.

You could sell it for less than that, but they can't show the price on the website. They will force you to call. We'll talk about this later in a different section of the video. Well, now that we've laid the foundation. For the rest of the video, let's talk about the number one strategy for

saving

money on new electronic batteries. Strategy number one is to buy a package. This is a very popular way to get free stuff with your battery for the same price as a new battery. kit so sticking with the same website let's take a look at a really simple package right now it's $5,000 if we press new with drum throne free now it's four thousand eight hundred dollars and you get a free item along with it but I also think this is a promotion rule is running if we go here it sounds sick, they have the same type of promotion if we go with the free drum throne now the price is reduced by two hundred dollars and you have the drum throne the funny thing is that not all the websites is selling it for a lower price if we go here to Sweetwater com.
tip on saving money when buying electronic drums
Now you have the drum throne and it still costs five thousand dollars, so this is the kind of package you would buy if you are trying to save 200 dollars, but what if you just want to get free stuff with the normal price of the drum set, let's take a look. look at the full campus comms here it's $5,000 with just the

drums

here it's $5,000 but now you have a second floor tom and a B T 1 compass. trigger let's take a look at Kraft Music's comms Kraft Music is really famous for their packages, it is where they built their reputation.
I guess they are giving you a lot for this price. Kraft Music is really good at that, now it's the second type of package that What you can get is you know basically the full price of the item, but with a free gift card, so this is a TD 50 drum module and They're giving you a two-hundred-dollar gift card to Kraft Music Comm. Many of these websites also allow you to contact them by phone and work over the phone to make your own package and they will give you a discount on everything. Here's the problem a lot of people run into, if they're new to electronic

drums

, they don't necessarily think that.
They have to separately buy a drum, a kick pedal, a hi-hat stand, a snare stand, they have to buy drumsticks, they have to buy some nice headphones, they don't see that there are four hundred extra dollars worth of things they can buy. I have to buy it, so a bundle will take care of that and really give you everything you need to start playing drums right out of the box. We have a package that is designed from the ground up to save you some money. We have packages that give you free stuff, we have packages that give you a gift card so you can buy your own things and finally we have the last one, which is what I call a premium package, so this one costs five thousand three hundred and seventy dollars and you're Paying a little more than the price of the drums, but in addition to all the other things, you also get the double kick pedal and a speaker.
I would be careful with the premium packages because what if you didn't actually have the exact kick pedal, but you know the price looked good so it convinced you to buy it. I would work with them to make your own premium package and wouldn't necessarily buy one of the pre-made ones once unless you really like everything you see there. Move on to strategy number two and that is to buy from a website that has unlisted prices for their instruments. Now this is a way around the fact that they can't advertise the price that appears next on the map instead of the price they will have. a little text that says Add to Cart to reveal the price or they will tell you to call 1-800 whatever their phone number is and then tell you the price over the phone.
I actually called one of these websites before back in 2013

when

I was originally shopping for a Roland TD 30 K or a rolling T 15 K V and I actually called them and asked them about different prices and stuff, and they offer really very good prices. bass, so that all sounds beautiful and it does. It works

when

it works, but there is a big problem with this, not all websites that use the strategy will continue to use it for years in a row. I think sometimes websites do this when they are small and want to build their reputation for you.
Meet really low prices and they will work with you individually. What great customer service and then eventually sometimes they will leave the practice so you will have to find a website that continues to do this and in the research to write. Reading the script for this video, I couldn't find any websites that currently do this, but I think it's one of those things that come in and out of style, it might be something that works for you and depending on when you're watching the video. . video okay, moving on to strategy number three for saving money, did you know that you can actually negotiate lower prices with individual online music stores and I think it's one of those things where we have to spend a certain amount of money, sometimes I don't do it?
I really think they can work with you and shave a hundred dollars off a $300 battery. There's no wiggle room for them to really make a profit that way, but if you're willing to spend $3000 on a kit, they might be able to go. Spending a couple hundred dollars, you never know, that's okay, so skip to money-saving strategy number four, you can build your own electronic drum set and spend next to no money or go completely broke. To be honest, this is a bit of a complicated topic, now the curious thing is the curious thing. The thing about conversion batteries is that they usually start out really cheap and innocent.
Oh look, I only spent $100 on this acoustic drum kit from a garage sale. Oh look, I just spent another hundred dollars on some mesh patches. The thing is that they are like black holes. that eats up money over time, eventually you'll upgrade to a three ply snare mesh head and then start

buying

better drum sugars from Germany and before you know it you spent thousands of dollars on these, they're cheap for start, but you will eventually spend a lot of money on them over time, so I just wanted to warn you that there are different ways to convert an acoustic drum set to electronic.
Here are some general tips, number one: buy a really good acoustic drum set. Really affordable, don't spend more than $200 on cheap acoustic drum shells. Next is to buy some drum heads on eBay, try to use at least two plies, possibly three plies if you can, now when it comes to the sensors inside your drums which are called triggers, you have two basic options, you can buy them or You can build them yourself, let's talk about

buying

them first, the easiest way is to buy the ones that mount on the edge of your drum, you can buy a complete set of rolling art tens for about a hundred dollars used on eBay right now or you can buy a set of similar ddrums.
Many different companies make these things. The best option is to buy the ones that go inside your drums. UFO drums. make some good ones, our drums are probably the best I know, you also have Joe Becky, you have diamond drums, you have stealth drums, make some great drum triggers and there are also many options available, people who have already done the work. You and I really recommend this route. The second way you can follow is to simply build them yourself; However, it takes a really special kind of person to do this, because you have to be willing to spend a lot of time on this.
There's a lot of process elimination a lot of experimentation seeing what works seeing what doesn't reading forms trying to figure out how to work it all out for myself I would get frustrated too quickly I've only tried making a trigger once or twice and it's just not my thing. I'm not a DIY type of person. This guy here is an example of someone making their own drum trigger for not a lot of money and something you'll get very useful results from, so a subscriber's name is Andrew. he did this for me very nice of him and he actually sent me this recently.
Everything is basically this long stand. You have two piezoelectrics, one for the rim and one for the drum head. Here's a piece of foam that makes contact. I can send the mesh head up or down through this post that rotates up and down. You can also move this post to side or center mount right here and it's made for a 12 inch tall Tom and this is a dual zone trigger. you have the input on the bottom and really this is just a really decent basic drum trigger that will do the job. You can make one of these if you want and if you spend the time figuring out how to do this kind of thing now while we're talking about batteries.
If you want to have a rubber rim for this set, you can purchase one that is pre-made, like our UFO drums from Drum Tech. There are many companies that make them or you can get your own. A really cheap one made from rubber fuel line hose from Lowe's, Home Depot, or Menards. You can buy them by the yard. It's a little more expensive than you think, so you might want to buy them online, but it's a cheaper alternative. to rubber tires that you buy online, although I recommend purchasing them because it is less complicated and a black rubber tire looks better than a semi-transparent one that you would buy at a home improvement store now when it comes to the battery module if you want To save money, you'll probably buy something that's a generation or two old.
You can buy an older drum module with $200 drum software and you'll instantly have something that sounds as good as a Pearl Mimic Pro and better than a Roland TD. 50 now as far as triggering interfaces go there are a couple online like the D drum DD TI or the alesis version, those two are actually clones of each other, I'm not a big fan of that because it's really very limited, it has an input jack for the ride cymbal that means you will only get two zones of a roll and ride cymbal if you want to have a two zone crash it can't be choked or you can have a one zone crash that is chocobo like there is a lot of stupid limitations with that thing now let's move on to the next money saving strategy which is buying used let's look at the different types the first is the refurbished electronic drum set maybe someone hits the screen with a drumstick or Maybe one of the cymbals came out defective, so the battery was sent back to the factory, they fixed the problem and will resell it for less than the cost of a new battery.
The next typeof electronic drums used is the open box unit, this one is a little difficult to nail down. Different people seem to have different definitions of what an open box is, but basically this thing has barely been touched, maybe they already know that they unpacked it to show it to the customer and see if they like the shape. the shells were visible, maybe they put them in the windows so that people could look at them outside and enter the music store. There are different reasons why they have to open a box, but they sort of pack it up and then resell it.
This can be a good deal sometimes, but I've seen some stores try to sell something like an open box unit for just under the new price. This one will be up to you to decide if it's a good deal or not next time. type of used electronic battery is 30 days return. I actually bought one of these before I bought a roll in 30k, it was used less than 30 days, the customer who bought it decided he didn't really want the 2d 30k paper and sent it back to the store. I bought it for, you know, $700 off the new price because it was a 30-day return.
The guy bought it and barely played it and then decided he didn't want it anymore. The next type of electronic device used. the battery is the store showroom floor model, stay away from these like the plague, there are just a few rare cases where this could be a good deal, but most of the time they have been overused if a drum set were a car this would be I have 300k miles on it because in the space of a couple of years we will have thousands of drummers playing this drum set day in and day out, they are battered and broken they are just not worth buying so I actually bought them. one of these, once I bought a KT plugging cushion for the store, I said we think it works, but we're not exactly sure, so they sold it as is on eBay.
I think I bought the full battery for $500 because I wanted the battery. battery module, the battery module alone was $500, so I figured that even if everything except the battery module was broken, I would still be getting my money's worth. It turned out that a couple of the crash cymbals were broken and yes, they weren't. It really was a great purchase but I still got my money's worth so I was quite happy with the purchase now of course there will always be exceptions to every rule so there may be a rare case where this is actually a good deal for you, but most of the time you should probably stay away from these.
The next type of used electronic drums is private sale. This is where you'll save the most money on this entire list, literally, if there was a way to save the most money. on an e-drum, it would be go to Craigslist, go to eBay, go to Facebook marketplace and buy a used e-drum from someone in person, go to their house and ask them for it, this is the cheapest way to do it because they have already spent their money on it, its value is already depreciated, they can already negotiate to get an even lower price, maybe they'll get a free drunk's throne in the deal, there's no other way to save more money than buying a used battery from a person.
Now, if you are looking for a list of different websites where you can find used electronic drums for sale, here are some of them that I would consider. The first is reverb comm. This website was just created to sell used musical equipment, so you can always find a good selection of used electronic drums here, the only thing is that although they have a great selection, they are usually slightly higher priced than some of the others websites I've seen online but check them out because I always have a good selection of electronic drums, next is the Facebook marketplace, this one doesn't always have the biggest selection, sometimes you may even have to drive two hours to buy from them a battery to someone, but this will have very low prices.
I bought TD 17 kbx for a thousand dollars and when I went to the house I asked if it would include the hi-hat stand and it did. You can buy really cheap batteries on the Facebook marketplace if you're willing to wait and watch. Now, here's the problem with buying used electronic batteries online. Shipping prices are actually very expensive. Shipping a large electronic drum set can cost like $200 sometimes, so they will make you pay for shipping or they have already raised the price. of shipping in the price of the battery and they offer you so-called free shipping, nothing is really free, so sometimes you can save a little money by shopping on sites like Craigslist or Facebook where you can meet the person in person.
Here are a couple of tips I've learned over the years. The first is that many times you must ask for real photos of the battery. These people just paste a photo as the stock image, you don't know how worn it is. mesh patches, you don't know if there are dead pixel lines on the battery module, you just have to trust them and that's not something I want to do when I'm spending thousands of dollars on something, so ask them to send you some. Actual photos of the battery before making the decision to purchase or even testing the battery in person.
It's not worth driving if you can see the battery in very bad condition. The second piece of advice I have is that when purchasing used electronic drums you should stick with the well-known premium brands. These are some of the premium brands I would stick with: Roland ATV Yamaha battery technology companies like that, which are well known for their build quality and durability because if you are buying something that is a little less durable, it already has a hundred thousand miles, which means it doesn't have much more life when you have it in your hands, but if you buy a battery that is known for its very high quality and for being rock solid, you know if you can still use it a lot and save money by same time and of course the third thing is a given but don't rush when you are To buy a used electronic drum kit, you need to do a lot of research and I would give myself at least a month or two a way to see if something is a good business: write the name of the battery and then order it. through comprehensive listings that will show you how many batteries were sold at what actual prices you can see a battery sold for nine hundred 1201 1100 you can take the average and now you know if a battery like that sells for 800 dollars that's actually a very good deal If someone is trying to get $1,300 for it, it's actually a bad deal.
I would spend a lot of time thinking about what you need this battery to do before purchasing anything. You know, everyone has a different need for their electronic drums. They have different goals, some people want something really compact that sounds good, so you need to buy batteries that fit that description. Some people don't care about sound quality because they are just going to plug the battery into their laptop and run it. ezdrummer, this is why you have to know what you want before you start spending money, some people rush into a purchasing decision and then end up having to modify their battery a lot because they literally bought the wrong battery for what they really needed.
There are different batteries for different people, spend time thinking about what you really need the battery to do before you run out of money and spend money everywhere. Hey, if you enjoyed this video, consider giving it a like. Thank you very much for watching. See you all in a few
