The new MacBook is the result of a collective obsession with simplifying its essential components to create the most efficient

design

possible. It is a product that could not exist without invention in many disciplines. A full-size keyboard is the most familiar, comfortable, and accurate typing platform. Defined the width of the new MacBook. To make it slimmer and more precise, we created a strong butterfly mechanism from a single assembly. Combined with a new stainless steel dome switch, this reinforces the balance and stability of the keyboard. Each individual key is now illuminated by a single LED. This allows for better and more deliberate lighting. ♪ Music playback ♪ A Retina display offers the best viewing experience.

To

design

the thinnest Retina display for a Mac, we've refined every component, from the glass to the pixels. It delivers the vivid brightness and performance you'd expect, but in a design that's thinner, lighter, and 30% more energy efficient. We've designed a multi-touch, force-sensing touch panel. This adds a new dimension of interaction. Touch sensors activate the entire surface of the glass. Force sensors measure a wide range of pressures, from the lightest touch to the deepest pressure. The pressure you apply activates an electromagnet that responds with a tactile feedback. So now, instead of just seeing what's happening on the screen, you feel it too. ♪ In order for the battery to last all day, we have developed new battery technologies.

In fact, we changed the construction and internal chemistry of the cells, which are now manufactured in discrete sheets. These sheets are stacked in a terrace structure that develops together with the exterior enclosure. The design allows for 35% more battery capacity in this compact footprint. To maximize performance, we take an extreme approach to miniaturization. Components were optimized and designed to fit together to create the highest density Mac logic board ever. It's actually two-thirds smaller than anything we've designed before. A primary goal was to eliminate the need for vents, fans, or any moving parts, allowing it to operate silently.

By consolidating the antenna with the bottom case, we were able to design an integrated aluminum hinge. This innovation, along with its unibody casing, makes it the first all-metal MacBook. ♪ Not only is this product thin and light, its advanced wireless technologies make it truly portable. When you really need to connect, the new USB Type-C connector is a single port for charging, video output, and data transfer. The result of all this is a product that is only 13.1mm thick and weighs just two pounds. ♪ To create the new MacBook, we were uncompromising in its design and engineering. We set a new standard for portability, while improving its fundamental components.
