And he sent me an acapella version of the song that he recorded one night at 11:30 after his kids went to sleep, and he blew me away. - Okay, here you have a very basic idea. We got my brother-in-law, Peter Habib, from the producing duo Mr. Fantastic. They put down some booming drums, and we kept passing the song on to all these creators. - And then when it came time to do the vocals, we had a bunch of different passes and we were like, you know what? We really need the ladies on this. It would be amazing if Ashley and Laura sang on it. -Travis was the one who actually asked me if he could sing it and of course he was very, very nervous, but, you know, it was fun and I just got a little uncomfortable when he was in the booth, no. big deal, because Travis was sitting right there.

I may look like an idiot in front of Sam, but for some reason I feel very uncomfortable if Travis is there too. - We sent a probe to our fantastic friends at Outloud Audio. The amazing Mark Condrache was kind enough to give us some time in the studio to let us record that, one of the biggest spaces, and I think Ronin had just been born, so Laura was there holding a little baby Ronin while she put the baby to bed. those sick people voice (laughing) in the song. -I don't even remember how old he was, I think he was only like...

I want to say two months, maybe, when we were recording it, I think he was younger and he started crying while we were recording. he. -We were only in the studio for about an hour, and it turned out that Laura had to feed her baby while she sang the song. - What's weird is that I think those were the takes we ended up using for the song, because for some reason, focusing on that made it a lot more comfortable to sing. - I don't know if any sucking sounds reached the track. That will be cut. (laughing) Anyway. - When we were recording it, Sam kept saying, "More rock and roll, more rock and roll!
Go as far as you can sing!" Because I guess I'm used to singing with a nicer, sweeter sound and Sam did it. I wanted to be like, "Ugh," like, "I want value!" And whatever takes we did like that, those are the ones they used, it was fun. - And then when Ashley recorded, she came to my house actually, which is a very cabin smaller, and she left her voice late at night, after she'd been working on a video game all day, I think. She was, she must have been exhausted, but she didn't seem like it because she just killed her side of the voice too and I recorded it, and in an instant we broke up, we broke up. - Yeah, Sam, when we were talking about the shit and the criticism, he said, "Hey, man," I said.
I lowered my voice. "You have a deep voice, do you want to?" go in and do it?" And I was like, no, no, I love it the way it is. He said, "No, come on, come on. I really go in there." So my contribution to the piece was actually getting into the booth and bouncing around as I did it, saying "Roll, critical, critical, roll," and trying to sound as tough and determined as possible even though I could see all of their faces. You giggled while I jumped up and down like a baby. - I wanted to give a retro touch to the lyrics.
I knew that one of the reasons we were going to try to do it was kind of like the risk of everything, taking risks, putting destiny in your own hands, deciding your destiny. That's a great element of our game, and Critical Role, you don't know what's going to happen, you don't know where the story will take you, so you have to try. - I think what stands out the most is the part about rolling the dice. Because Vex was always a risk-taker, but I don't know. Daggers and cunning are cool, so we take it there. Just that little change made me very happy. - I think the lyrics to Your Turn To Roll really embody a kind of spirit of our first game at home, which was like a group of friends getting together, being nerdy as hell, rolling some dice, not really caring what they did. come on. what comes out of your mouth or who is watching or what other people think of you.
You'll go up against brave and brave characters, you'll try to right the wrongs or maybe cause them depending on what your character is, and you'll just go on that adventure and go with the flow and when the time comes, you'll roll the dice and see what happens.
