credit card sir? - And I'll say oh yeah, this is my friend. I'm just putting down a, just a deposit... - That's not going to work, they're going to put handcuffs on you right away. Where did Ricky Goldsworth grow up? - Oh, I grew up on the road. - Where, no, what city? - Oh, New York City. - Did you grow up in New York City? - This is happening now in New York. -What's your mother's name, Ricky Goldsworth? -Lucy Goldsworth. -What is her maiden name? -Lucy Oro. (laughs) - Look, falling apart. - Well, I wouldn't trip like that.

I would have a response ready. - Would you fire them? - I would fire them and ask them what the damn robbery is? (laughs) I'm trying to check into a

and you're giving me a fucking inquisition? Is this how you treat all your clients? - Alright. - Who do you think you are? - That's fair, okay, that's fair! - And I would hit him in the chest like that. - At this point I'll give you a

, okay? You did it, you win. You win, Ricky. - After some time, it was revealed that Artemus Ogletree had also stayed at the St.

Regis in Kansas City with another man, possibly Don. In the early 2000s, Dr. John Horner, author of a comprehensive account of the

murder

case published by the Kansas City Public Library, received a call from out of state about Artemus Ogletree. The person he called claimed to have found a box containing newspaper articles about the Ogletree

murder

among the belongings of a deceased elderly person. According to the person he called, there was something else in the box. Something else that had apparently been referred to in the newspaper articles. Unfortunately, the person he called did not say what that item was.

After that, the case would have no further revelations and would disappear into obscurity. And with that, let's get into the theories. The first theory is pretty simple: the man referred to as Don beat Artemus Ogletree to death in room

1046

and acted alone. As mentioned above, it came to light that shortly before his death, Ogletree had been staying at another Kansas City hotel with another man, possibly Don. It's possible that Don was also the man with the deep voice the maid heard through the hotel door, but even if this theory is true, the police were never able to discover who Don really was.

The second theory is that the unknown Don did not act alone. This theory relates to an observation by Charles Blocher, the elevator operator on the night of the murder. His observation may also shed some light on who Don might be. On the night of the murder, Blocher saw a aforementioned "business woman" finishing the appointment, going up to the tenth floor. The elevator operator estimated the woman weighed 135 pounds and approximately 5 1/2 feet tall. She had dark hair and was wearing a tag that said "Black Hudson Seal Coat or Imitation Hudson Seal" end quote. - What is the commercial, what commercial woman? -She It seems that she was dressed in very nice clothes, that's why they called her a commercial woman. - That? -Anyway, I didn't invent her name, that's what they called her. - It looked like Mrs.
Pin-Sun. - Yes, of course, yes, she was dating the Brawny boy. She-she She was standing next to a tall, bald man in a white T-shirt. - Yes, it was her, Brawny and Mr. Clean. They all went and went on little adventures. Blocher claimed that this woman was searching for room 1026 to meet a man she could not find. It is possible that this woman was looking for Ogletree and had confused room

1046

with 1026. This business woman was also seen with a man on the ninth floor, a man who the elevator operator said was the same height and weight as the woman.
Some speculate that this man could have been Don. If you recall, potentially a woman's fingerprints were found on the phone stand, and a woman staying next to room 1048 reported hearing loud female and male voices cursing, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to suspect that this commercial woman and the man on the ninth floor could have been responsible for what happened to Artemus Ogletree. However, there was nothing official about the woman or the man beyond what little there was on the Internet and my own personal speculation. The third theory comes from many sensational articles published in the following years that suggested that Ogletree was murdered for being unfaithful to his fiancée.
I'd like to recall the announcement in the Journal-Post that Ogletree would be buried in a potter's field, the announcement that seemed to prompt an anonymous person to fund Ogletree's funeral. According to a tabloid article in the Newcastle Sun titled Mystery Murder in Room 1046, that sequence of events was a little different. The article states that a woman called the local newspaper to say, "you have a story in your paper that is incorrect." Roland Owen will not be buried in a poor man's grave. "Arrangements have been made for his funeral," end of quote. - I'm going to start using it. - A poor man's grave? - Well, it's just kind of a poor description.
As if they gave me a bad quality salad. - Oh, this is a poor man's salad. - I won't eat this poor man's salad. - Or if you like a hotel room that only has a view of the parking lot or the highway. I'm not going to sit in this poor guy's hotel room. - Counter? Yes, I will not accept this poor man's opinion. - This is Ricky Goldsworth, you know what the deal is. Do you want me to go down there again? I don't believe it. - Man, that guy is scary. -Yes, he is very scary.
When asked to identify herself and what really happened to the man still known as Owen at the time, she responded: "It doesn't matter, I know" what I'm talking about, "he got into trouble," end quote . Before hanging up the phone. At the same time, a man called the funeral home where Owen was and said, "Don't bury Owen in a beggar's grave." I want him buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. "Then he will be close to my sister. "I will send him funds to cover the funeral expenses", end of quote. - These people hate the poor! - I think maybe that was slang of the time. - Did he? was? - Me What it seems, unless these two people like to say "poor", anyway, the most important detail for me is the fact... - The sister's grave. - The sister's grave sister. - Did you look in the cemetery and see what...?
Let's get into that right now. - Great. - Well, sort of. The man apparently explained that Owen had left a girl he was engaged to, and that in room 1046, Owen, the man and the abandoned girl, had a "little meeting" date. "end of date. Before hanging up, he said, "Cheaters usually get what they deserve." The voice added the quote "I'm doing this" for my sister "end quote." - These poor people at this funeral home are just trying to provide a nice little occasion for this brutally murdered man, and they have a cast of cartoonish characters calling on them to deliver these gruesome, somber messages.
If I'm working in that house, I'm just getting fed up. - Do you want to come do the work? Do you want to do my job? What if I am you and you are me? - Show up, why don't you bury them, asshole? (Ryan laughs) Stop calling me, I'm busy! - It's fucking annoying. - Do you know how difficult it is to reconstruct this man's skull? - Other than that, the mysterious death of Artemus Ogletree has been left gathering dust on investigators' shelves, with no other leads or leads possible. To this day, it is unknown what really happened in room 1046 of the hotel.
Was Ogletree a prisoner? Was he really punished for cheating on his fiancee? Unfortunately, the case will remain unsolved. (

music) After reading about this case, I felt in a strange headspace, so I watched clips of people falling on YouTube to go to sleep. - You saw people fall... - Yes, like a compilation of people falling. That 's what I did. - That's a strange way to make you... - Well, you know what? It's better to think about that than to think about a man with his praying hands bloody on the ground. (laughter) On his hands and knees, bleeding to death.
Alright, well that's all. - Do you think they cleaned that hotel afterwards? - Sure, oh that maid probably had to clean it. - I don't even want to think about that. - Anyway, get out of my house. (
