Now, the first item on the list of my favorite features of iOS 13 slash hello Pat OS is the improved Files app and one of the key ones. The new features are the ability to save files directly to your local storage on your iOS device, so you saw it on my iPad and now I can create a new folder and take advantage of all the local storage space you have available on your device, another thing that What I really like about the Files app is the new column view that lets you see folders nested deep in the directory structure, so all you have to do is tap the little column's View button and then You can tap on a folder and drill down into the file structure. and if possible, you'll also get a really nice high resolution preview of the file that you're looking at and another really nice benefit of the column view is that it gives you all the metadata, all that rich metadata, right below the file preview so you can see here that this image was taken from an iPhone se, while with the other image you can see that it comes from an iPod touch easily discernible from the column view.

More Interesting Facts About,

the best ios 13 and ipados 13 features...

Now one of the most useful new features in the iOS 13 period is the ability to connect to an SMB server wirelessly directly from the Files app now in beta 1, this feature was not fully enabled and you could see the message error here but the good news is that in beta 2 the SMB server functionality has been enabled so connect a server I already have a recent server saved with my credentials and as you can see now under shared I am connected to my SMB server, which is important knowledge and you can see that I use it to store archived copies of my videos before uploading them to YouTube. so I'm going to grab this file here, this video is a pretty small video.

I'll drag it to the things folder on my iPad's local storage. Please note that it is still in beta, so it may not be final. representation of what things or what they will look like when doing these file transfers, but it's very promising in what we've seen so far, of course, you can also save files to these servers, so that's what we'll do now. we're going to browse our local storage, we're going to look for a file, we're just going to drag this one here, we're going to tap on our shared storage, we're going to go back to one of the folders there, we're going to go to 2019 and we're going to leave it here now.

I think I already stored that same file here, we'll go see what happens. Yes, it's still there, so you can basically replace or keep both, but you see, it's very easy to transfer files to and from Synology Nast thanks to the new SMB server connectivity found in the Files app for iOS 13 and, Of course, you can also play media directly from the server, although many factors influence the performance of how that media plays, it will depend a lot on your server, a lot on your wireless connection, the type of video, the quality of the video, etc., you will notice. some instability here when trying to play this 4k video in the final all important feature for the files app in iOS 13 Of course there is support for external media so here you can see I'm plugging this USB Type C stick directly into my iPad Pro.
Look what happens, you'll notice it here in just a second. There we go, not so. A subtle little nod to the fact that you should subscribe to this channel if you enjoy these videos, but I'm going to go ahead and tap subscribe here and then you can easily view everything on the thumb drive. I can tap on that image there, see its metadata, open it directly, and start marking it. Whatever I need to do, I can drag it to local storage or to one of the cloud providers I've set up within the Files app. It just offers you a lot. of flexibility, so here's a movie that I can open and play directly from that USB drive, so without a doubt the new Files app is one of the

best

new features in iOS 13, the iPad operating system feature Next up is desktop-class browsing in Safari, which is a very welcome new feature.
Here you can see Squarespace, you can log in, set up and edit your Squarespace website similarly to how you do on a desktop and if you've ever tried to use Squarespace on iOS 12 or below, you already know how. could be completely frustrating and the same goes for Google Docs now the iPad will present the desktop version of the website in Safari, your touch inputs will be mapped correctly and the website will be scaled to take advantage of all that extra from the iPad's big screens . The real estate won't be wasted here on the iPad with this new desktop version of Safari and things like YouTube.
You will be able to see the real desktop version of YouTube every time you load youtube.com and you don't have to do anything, the user agent is automatically presented as a Mac version of the browser, so YouTube will be formatted correctly, friends, finally is here. Yes, we finally have the ability to download files. It only took 13 versions of iOS before we could get them. But now the ability to download files is finally here and you can even go to Safari settings and configure where your downloads will be stored, whether on a cloud provider directly on your device to iCloud Drive.
You can even know what you can. let me, let me grab my USB stick here, you can even save your downloads to an external drive, which is crazy, it's almost too unwieldy to handle, if you're an iOS user, you've been using iOS all this time with these limitations. instead and with iOS 13 those limitations are simply thrown out, so now, like I said, you can set downloads to be stored not only on your internal storage but also on an external drive, which is crazy to think about, so let me show you. you're an example of how this works you just tap download like this and you tap download that's it it's not going to say Safari can't open the file or whatever as long as you have enough storage space you can download it so just tap on the download button on the toolbar to see the status of your download, you can see it by going there and if I want to see the location where that file is being downloaded, just tap on the magnifying glass and there it takes me to my external volume where it was done the download. is in progress now, one of the most frustrating things about larger iPads is using the software keyboard to type while holding the device in your hand, but iOS 13 brings a very welcome addition that will make typing with the portable keyboard much easier. easier and that is the floating keyboard. so you tap and hold here, select floating and then you'll see the keyboard basically turns into an iPhone keyboard that you can move anywhere on the screen, so I move it here if I want to type with my left hand, move it here if I want to type with my right hand and this new floating keyboard also allows for quick typing on the keyboard, allowing you to slide the keys to spell words easily, so let me show you right here, so we just slide like this to type.
It's a very nice feature to have on the iPad and when you're ready to reconnect it to a regular keyboard, just drag to the bottom just like now, another important feature of iOS 13 on the operating system is multitasking here on the La iPad multitasking has gotten a big upgrade, now you can have multiple slide apps like this, so I'm adding more and more apps to that slide stack and the really cool thing about having this is that you can just swipe through them all. those apps that swipe over apps like this just swipe so you can have tons of apps at your fingertips at any time and it works just as you would expect so when you interact with the apps it will switch between those two apps with the that interacts. like this and then you can keep swiping to see the rest of the apps like this, then when you want to navigate directly to a specific app you can open the slide picker by simply swiping up from the bottom of the slide stack which allows you view multiple apps at once and then you can tap and switch to them or swipe up to close an app slide and of course you can flick the stack to move it to the side or just swipe again to move it off the screen, Slide it back to move it back on the screen, and then slide it again to move it to the left side.
You can now also grab the handle at the top to move the top app to split view or full screen. app by moving it to the top here I will do a split view and that brings the first app in the stack, the files app in this case to a split view app and then all the remaining slides or apps are still there so you can still interact with them as you wish now, another awesome multitasking feature in iPad OS 13 is the ability to have multiple windows from the same app and a split view like this and of course you can do this with Safari in older versions of iOS, but now in I.
If you've had OS 13, you can do this with more standard apps, like the Notes app, for example, so you can simply drag a note to the side to open a split view with two different notes, but it doesn't stop. There you can also open multiple windows in multiple spaces from the same application. Let me show you what I mean here, so I have this note that I'm going to drag down here and create a split view with the reminders app. just open reminders move it to the side and there we go reminders in notes right there you have your own custom space but I still have the other space with the two notes so this means you can have multiple spaces with multiple windows from the same application and the new multitasking allows you to see all the open windows from that particular application, like here with the Safari application which is also super powerful, so here I have Safari in notes, I have reminders and notes, independent notes and a standalone Safari and there is one more important multitasking feature and that is, the application is exposed to show all the windows of a particular application, all you need to do is long press on that application, in this case Safari to see all the windows from Safari.
You can see I have three Safari windows here, a couple with the Notes app in this case. now if I hold down notes and select show all windows I will be able to see all the notes in the windows including spaces shared with other apps like here with reminders and with Safari and I can also use app exposure to start a new one standalone application. window of that app now, if you've seen any of our other videos, you probably already know how crazy I am about the new Photos app, particularly the new editing functionality within the Photos app and it's definitely one of the major hypes of iOS 13 @OS certainly in previous versions of iOS the most you could edit a video was to crop it, but on iPad OS and iOS 13 you can go in and edit videos just like you would edit photos, meaning you can apply all of these effects directly to your videos , you can adjust their intensity, you can turn them on or off to see how they look before and after.
It's a very deep editing experience for photos let alone videos, but yes, you can do all of this in videos, so here you saw a I'll turn up the saturation to the maximum and then I'll go ahead and drag it down and you can see it right there in time real and we'll just reset it to default and there are all these other different effects that you can apply like vignettes, warm tint, etc. so now we can look at our edits and see the before and after and of course alsoyou can change the filters and filter intensity.
Now here's what's really awesome about the photo editing interface. You can change the horizon. tilt you can also flip an image you can rotate it like this and you can change the aspect ratio and what's crazy is all of these edits are done non-destructively so check this out. I'm going to save, it's saving the video, but unlike iOS 12. when you make a trim, it doesn't create a new video, it actually saves all those changes to the original video through the database and then you can go in and withdraw those changes if you wish to do so at any time.
It is something really very powerful. I could see that I am altering those changes when saving the video and once I finish saving it, you can play it like this. This is definitely one of the

best

new features in iOS 13. It was a bit of fun because dark mode was kind of the headliner. feature of iOS 13 and while I think it's still a very important feature because it's on this list, it's obviously not as important a feature as some of the other things we've talked about, but it's still really cool, you can enable it at via Display and brightness settings darken the interface, making it more comfortable to use in dark or low-light environments, and the good thing is that all your apps, at least all standard apps, are affected by this change and saw that you can enable or disable them.
Dark mode also from the control center, but also third-party applications will be able in the future to take advantage of dark mode, but now let me show you some of the standard applications that you saw, the App Store application, here is the home application. Look at the new darker tile there, what else can we look at? How about the photos you see? The dark chrome at the bottom of the Photos app, what else do we have here? How about we look at the reminders app? You see the new dark interface alongside the Notes app in that shared space, so also the dark Notes app and of course the Mail app. you get a dark mode, you see that new mail interface there and let's see we also have the Files app, so you have a dark files app and here's Safari with another shared space of the Notes app.
Now it may seem strange to have a new volume indicator on this list. with so many other important features, but this is a big deal considering how annoying the old volume HUD used to be, but in iOS 13 you could see that the volume HUD had been relocated to the left side of the screen next to the buttons volume control, what it does makes sense and the cool thing is that the volume indicator will automatically collapse to make it even smaller and you can control it with your finger like this, watch it collapse to be even smaller, but it's not just the volume controls which have been relocated whenever you enable the mute switch, you can see the silent mode indicator now appearing at the top of the screen instead of in the middle as it used to be.
The new look around feature in the redesigned Maps app for iOS 13 is a big deal because it's Apple's answer to Google Street View, let me show you what I mean here, so if you tap that little magnifying glass when you zoom in close enough wide in an eligible city, you'll find yourself looking around and, like Google Street View, looking around gives you a 3D perspective. of your environment so you can move your little cursor like this and you will see the viewport update accordingly now in the top left corner you will see a full screen button if you tap that you can take a look at the full screen view and, Of course, you can move around with your finger, you can touch points of interest like this and zoom in on those areas and have additional information at your fingertips.
Now, what makes looking around particularly interesting is how smooth and fluid the transitions are. They're as you move through 3D space so certainly more fluid than what you'll find in Google Street View, that's for sure, before iOS 13, it always seemed like Apple Maps was missing that key Google Street View feature And, while it's only available in a handful of cities and will be rolling out slowly throughout 2019, you can't help but think that this is definitely one of iOS 13's biggest new features. In iOS 13, you get a whole new set of gestures for a cut copy. paste undo and redo so let me show you how to use it right now so to copy all you need to do is three finger pinch like this to copy.
See the little copy indicator at the top now to cut everything you need. What you need to do is pinch twice like this to paste, all you need to do is pinch like this, super useful and to undo, all you need to do is swipe three fingers left like this and redo swipe three fingers back the right as To complement these new gestures, direct cursor control has been improved. You can touch and drag the cursor and place it precisely where you want within a text entry field. It provides much more precise control than the old magnifying glass method, plus there's built-in mouse and controller support.
So you can use an Xbox controller or a PlayStation controller, you can use a Bluetooth wireless mouse. I already have my MX master 2 paired and now I'm pairing my Xbox controller. You can see both devices paired here so you can use the Xbox controller. to play any MFI and capable title, like Riptide renegade, which I'm playing right here and as I said before, the Xbox controller is a much better controller than any of the other MFI enabled controllers in the past, this change alone makes make iOS much better. more capable gaming platform now, as mentioned mouse support is also available;
However, this is more of an accessibility feature than anything else, as said mouse control is surprisingly good in iOS 13 and not only can you customize the mouse buttons to a very high level. To a high degree, you can even make those buttons execute shortcuts using the shortcuts app, and although you have to go into accessibility and enable assistive touch to use this feature, I'm still very surprised at how well it works and how well it works. is implemented. accessibility feature or not it is very evident that Apple spent a lot of time trying to make mouse control compatible with iOS 13 and then the final major feature of iOS 13 is the new redesign Reminders app, it has a smart list on the top that will automatically filter and track your reminders, you have your list and then you have individual reminders, now you can create a new list with a variety of different features, obviously you can give it a name, you can also give it a color and then you can give it a special glyph below so you can choose any of these glyphs, how about the starting glyph that uses that well and then just tap Done, that's how you create a new list.
You can now also group a multiple list so you can simply drag. and place one list on top of the other and that will create a new group and then you can go in and rename that group and then you can choose to include additional lists in that group as well so you can see that Jeff's group has two lists. below to help you stay organized with your various lists so you see my smart list area, there's not much to do there right now, so let's change that. I'm going to touch an individual item on Mac's nine to five list.
I'm going to tap checked and check that item, I actually want to check multiple items and you can see the smart list flag go up. Now you have three items there and you can easily filter those items just by tapping on that smart list. Now let me show you something else. In fact, you can indent by simply swiping like this, which allows you to nest items within a list to stay better organized, so just tap the disclosure triangle to open like this and if you want to delete the nested items, you can simply delete the indentation with just a swipe of your finger.
Just like you did first to undo those changes, you can also quickly mark an item by swiping left and tapping the flat button, and Siri's intelligence will automatically suggest due dates based on the name of your items so you can see them one day, tap there for today. and now you'll find one today item and two scheduled items on your smart list, so ladies and gentlemen, this has been a look at what I consider to be the best features for iOS 13 and iPad OS.
