Jun 04, 2021
Well, last week was a little darker than we normally do this week. I wanted to have some fun and make something that's kind of a game about something we've done in the past and made a lot of videos about. different

fish

for different sizes of tanks, in fact we have a loop of them playing here on this TV in case you're wondering what that is, but we've done all the different ones, not all the different sizes, but some different size

aquarium

s Today I want to combine all that and I want to give our favorite

fish

for the eight most popular size

aquarium

s, are we ready for that?

It will be a lot of fun, we will start with the small tanks and then move on to the heavyweights, we will start with the 5

gallon

tank, what is your favorite fish for a five

gallon

aquarium? I mean, even one question, I know it's the dum

best

question ever asked. On this channel my favorite fish for a five gallon aquarium would be a betta and I have kept them in 10 gallons as well. I recommend five is the minimum, but I think yes, definitely a female betta, to be specific, and I just think anything else is probably stretching it, I don't know, I know there are other fish that can fit in a five aquarium. gallons, but it's almost like five gallons were made for him, it's like five gallons for a beta snail, there you go, good because I knew it.

More Interesting Facts About,

the best fish for every sized aquarium 5 gallon 150 gallon...

I mean we're in the beta business, but I knew you were going to take that for common sense. So it was pretty easy for me to pick another fish that I love in five gallon tanks and that is the heavenly pearl danio. These are absolutes. micro fish are tiny they are about the size of a grain of rice maybe a little bigger they are beautiful my vision is not the

best

anymore I am getting older and I have to look at things for a while A little sometimes to make them focus and cpds, that's what I call them cpds, you really have to focus on them because they are beautiful but they are very small so they are hard to see, but quite plentiful, easy to maintain.

Great for a 5 gallon aquarium, their leopard spots are absolutely beautiful. I love this fish, it's not my favorite danio. I have others, but I love the cpd. They are adorable and perfect if you are not having a beta, perfect for five. one gallon tank, yeah I can't disagree with you on that, okay now we move on to the 10 gallon tank, your favorite aquarium size should be easy for you, I decided I wanted to talk about endlers because I think endlers They are just the perfect beginner fish and perfect for a 10 gallon aquarium these fish are plentiful you can't you can't well I shouldn't say you can't kill them because I'm sure there are people who have but they are the perfect beginner fish because they are very hardy because their water parameters are so you don't have to focus on a specific temperature, you know, they are fine if your house is 71.72 naturally, then it may be fine without a heater, I would still buy a heater, still I would buy one just to be safe because you never know when the time comes and your heater goes out or well I guess your heater would go out too, but anyway, keeping 101 ladies and gentlemen and endless fish are the fish Perfect starters for a 10 gallon aquarium.

They are beautiful. Some of these fish we're going to have to go ahead and mention can also be crossed, which means you can put in endlers. a 5 gallon tank too, yes you can, but for 10 gallons your favorite is going to be that one and that's perfectly fine, but the reason is they are live carriers, I want to give them a few extra gallons in case you know, I have some babies and, on the topic of live bears, my fish for the 10 gallon tank will also be another live bearer, if you are new to this, just walking in the door, you don't really know what live bear is this means they give birth to live fish they are free swimming they don't lay eggs just a fish comes out and they start swimming it's the most adorable thing in the world there are a lot of live bears but my favorites are four to ten The one gallon tank will be another live bear but they won't be guppies are you thinking I'm going to say guppies love guppies, they love guppies, but I chose to stray a little bit from what you would automatically think I would say and I chose liar's tail mollies, okay I love them, there's one shot in particular that I'm going to put on me right now because it's something I bought at House of Tropicals a long time ago and it's the black and yellow liar's tales and they're absolutely beautiful.
I have used this footage in many videos in the past. I love this fish, just like you said with the antlers and it is quite common in many community type fish, very hardy, very easy to keep, they are live bears. they will always be producing unless you only put males or only females in there so you will feel like a pro because you have all these new babies these free fish that come out all the time you are going to feel like the best fish keeper in the world and have some really beautiful fish at the same time, easy on the water parameters, you just can't lose the liar tail mollies to gain ftw, as the kids would say, no kids, kids get off. my lawn yes, there are 15 gallon aquariums, in fact, I have one right there, but today we are not going to talk about 15 gallons, we are going to jump from 10 gallons directly to 20 gallons again, we are being nice. to cover the most common aquarium sizes you see in this hobby, so the next one is 20 gallons.
What you have. I have two different types of tank setups up to 20 gallons because I couldn't, I couldn't choose. I personally like a 20 gallon pencil fish with ember tetras, a pencil fish in schools where they are up or midway with some ember tetras, it's just one of my favorites and I think if you want a lot of activity, you want a lot of stuff. that happen in the tank, put some plants in there so

every

one can come up and let them go, I mean they are beautiful, they are different pencil fish, they are different ember tetras mixed with the pencil fish, there is just a lot of activity.
They are abundant and to me it is a win-win, you have a bonus because she gave you two fish that are beautiful. That's not what I meant by two different tank configurations as far as the 20 gallons are concerned. I have to address something that I get a lot of questions, I especially get this question all the time about what size tank and how many female bettas should go together and that's okay so I'm going to say it again. 20 gallon aquarium, five female bettas, a bunch of hesitant ones, you know? choose a hesitant of your choice that can go with bettas that get along well with betas, you know, cardinal tetras, something like that, but I would recommend at the very least a 20 gallon aquarium for a sorority and yet I don't recommend that you start This, if you are a beginner fish keeper, you don't need to have a little more experience and know what beta is like and you just need to have more experience.
Do your research if you ever want to do that, but I just thought. I would throw it out because I get that question a lot as to what is the minimum tank size for a beta guild and in my opinion it's 20 gallons, I got a bonus there, absolutely, when it comes to 20 gallons, for me, this was Another one that was the most obvious of all time because I absolutely adore these fish. We have a bunch of them right now, not in 20 gallons, but we have a bunch of them and that's the rummy nose tetra. I love them, I love this fish with the bright red head, that black and white striped tail, they are absolutely amazing.
One of my favorite fish in the entire hobby. I've said it many times on this channel and I'm not afraid to admit it. I love some rummy nose tetras, they are an amazing school of fish, they are just going to swarm

every

where, even in your discus tank, there are a ton of them in there with the discus, they don't even come anywhere close. the discus even at feeding time they just go off and do their thing and come and go and it's beautiful to watch and it's also a beautiful fish and beautiful to watch it do so I can't get enough rummy nose tetras if I could have a tank full of them, a big giant tank, maybe turn this one into one, oh wow, 350 rummy nose tetras in there, I'm not going to do that, but it sure would be cool, so the next one is a very, very different size common. and it's one that has always puzzled me.
I don't know why they didn't just use 30 gallons but it's a 29 gallon tank, very common in the hobby, many first time anglers start with a 29 gallon tank because it's big enough to make a statement but it doesn't. big enough to fill an entire room like some of the tanks we're going to talk about next. I just set up a 29 gallon tank, I think it's there. I know what fish I'm going to put on the list, but I'll let you go since we've been doing it in order. This way I'll let you go first and you'll say what your favorite fish is for a 29 I think a very beautiful tank as far as the 29 gallon is concerned, it's a very nice planted tank, 29 gallon planted with a couple of German blue rams , get a pair, you know, a male and a female, they balance there and then they move. 15 16 cardinal tetras.
I love it. I just can't imagine anything nicer for a 29 gallon tank. I like the way you think. I want to mention something real quick because this is not a video. German Blue Rams require a 29-gallon tank. tank no because they don't yes just like pencil fish and ember tetras you don't need to have them in a 10 gallon tank amber tetras could go in a 5 gallon tank and be completely fine I just want to leave it clear. that we're not giving them the fish that require that size, we're just saying what our favorite fish are for those times and what would work because hey, bigger is better, and I chose the German blue ramps to where just two and then be a couple because they can get a little aggressive when they want to start breeding so just to keep the aggression down that's why I suggested a pear and not as you know 10 of them yeah German blue sheep maybe not a fish for beginners , but uh, but it's still not that difficult to maintain and uh, and absolutely spectacular, they're wonderful.
Well, now let's move on to mine, it's one of my new secret obsessions. I love these fish, particularly for 29 gallons and yes, I'm totally biased because I just set up. This comes as a surprise to Congo tetras. My Congo tetras may not be that gorgeous right now, but I'm going to post some pictures of some Congo tetras that are spectacular. This is simply the most striking fish of all time. Transparent fins with white border around. It's just amazing, I absolutely love them, the body of the fish is nothing spectacular, it's all about the fins on this fish, I love them, love them, love them and I can't wait for mine to get some size, mature and get those special fins but yeah congo tetras easy to keep beautiful cheap not easy to find not the most popular fish out there eh but when you find them you will be glad you did because they are wonderful they are pretty .
Okay, so you would think that the natural progression would be for us to go from the 29 aquarium to the 40 gallon aquarium, the 40 gallon breeder, but we're not going to do that because we're going to jump right to the 55 gallon aquarium just because 40 breeders. , they are popular but they are not common, as if you don't see them everywhere. Usually hardcore fish keepers keep 40 gallon tanks, people who are setting up fish rooms and stuff like that, so we just go. skip that one and go up to 55 and I'm going to go out of order here and there's a very particular reason why we really took note and made the list and took note of what our favorite fish was going to be. each individual tank and we showed those lists to each other and you totally copied me I didn't copy you yeah I agree with you I'm going to go first because I said it first and they are angels this is another fish that I'm crazy about.
I love angelfish. I have always done it. I've done a seven-part video series on angelfish and how to raise them with my friend Dave Warren. It is simply a magnificent fish. An excellent fish for beginners because they are very, very resistant. There are people every time we say there are. people who argue with us because they say yes, but they are very bad, that can be true, but then again, almost all fish in this hobby can have some bad ones, but it is more common with angels, you can have them that can They get a little feisty but that's usually because they have mated and want to breed and that's true with a lot of fish in this hobby but when you're talking about an easy fish to keep it does very well in a 55 gallon aquarium. . of options for tank mates and they are just magnificent it's angelfish all day now go ahead and copy me now it's your turn okay but the thing is I said angelfish too but I added tank mates that they I really like the Dania Zebra one with Angels, I think it's fun to see them approach and the Angels just do their thing and they're fast enough that the Angels don't mess with them or bother them and I think it's a beautiful, beautiful tank . when you have angels, different angels, they don't even have to be the same, you could even use a 55 as a growth tank for the angels, sure, it's so nice to have a bunch of baby angels in there, there aren't many. of fish in this hobby that can stand on their own and what I mean by this is like these oscars behind me, magnificent, beautiful, big, bold fish, you can keep them in an undecorated aquarium and they look fantastic and you should probably with the Oscar because they are going to redecorate the tank themselves anyway, but angels can be the main focal point in an aquarium, you don't need anything else there because Are you so bold that that shape they have with those long fins and the flowing fins and all the dangling things hanging from them makes them the perfect fish for someone like me who is somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to aquarium decorating?
I like that it is a little sparse I don't like a lot of decoration I like to look at people's highly decorated aquariums but for my personal taste I like it to be something basic I like that the fish are the focal point and not The fish are better than the angels to be the main focal point, so yeah, no question, so now let's move on again to the 75 gallon aquarium, next on the list for the most common sizes. What's yours? We will return to the original order. your favorite fish for 75 gallons my favorite fish for 75 gallons they will be imbunas but they will be the smaller ones, not the bigger ones like the table one and me, the rusty ones and the yellow labs and have a nice little mix of them 10 to 12, You know, the ones that are no larger than three to four five inches.
I just think it's a beautiful tank. You don't need to have many, you can just have a few rocks that you know escaped here. and there they have their own little spaces and like I said imgood, but the smaller ones, not the ones that get really big, you can have 12 damasani there and that's just beautiful, I mean, I would suggest mixing them up to make them, you know, make. there's a variety of things a little bit different, but yeah, easy, you did a video a long time ago buying incarnations in our store, it was a lot of fun putting a bunch of mbunas in a 75 gallon tank, it was a lot of fun, it was a lot.
How funny, once again, you copied me, but yes and no, because I did. I mean, I'm extremely biased when it comes to this list because I have almost all of them except the lyretail mollies, but the 75 I chose. just yellow labs if you want to know what it looks like look behind this beautiful woman she's sitting in front of me it's not a 75 gallon aquarium but this is what an aquarium would look like if it was filled with nothing but yellow labs. They are one of the most striking fish in the hobby, they are as bright as you will ever see, they are easy to keep, they will breed for you, that is, unless you can get them from somewhere that can determine if they are males or females, which It can be difficult with these fish if you go for a single male like all males or all females you obviously aren't going to have reproduction there but to me that's part of the fun of putting a bunch of these in there they stay smaller so mbunas and the fact that they can breed there and give you a tank full of super bright yellow fish, how can you lose?
I mean, I just love these fish ever since I started keeping fish, they have been one of my favorites and you don't have to look at them for more than five seconds to understand why I agree that they are beautiful. We continue again, let's skip another size, um, and it's one. which we actually have, we have a 90 gallon tank in the basement with angels and danios in it, go figure, but we're going to go ahead and skip that one and go to the 125 because there are 90 gallons available, but they're not that common and we don't want to. let this video be three hours long, so 125 gallons I think I know what you're going to say, but go ahead, what can I say?
I'm a little biased because my 125 has a disc, so recommending disc, I mean that's my opinion, other people might think, oh 125, I can think of something better to put it on, but I like my disc there, I have this nose of school rummy and a bristly nose plate in there and the decoration is just a piece of driftwood a couple actually a couple of pieces of driftwood but I like that the discs are the main attraction in that tank and it gives them a lot more room to They can grow up and do their own thing and they go all over the place and they get along and sometimes they pair up and try to breed here and there, but I have a rummy nose there, so we've never had success with that, but I can always take them out. and raise them. but I went against that I decided not to do that but yeah 125 I think is perfect for disco so for me with the 125 uh it was a no brainer just like everyone else here this to me is the perfect tank for Peacocks. and maybe african cichlids is something like we cut our teeth on youtube, that's why we became known, we were breeding peacocks and haps and also at that time no tank screams, it has to be an african cichlid tank more than a 125 and there are no peacocks or haps they can't grow on a 125 six feet long so yeah perfect for them some of these fish some of the haps get pretty big but that's okay because they can grow as much as they need to get to a six foot long 125. gallon tank, so it's perfect for that, but that's one of the beautiful things about the 125 is that there are so many fish that are perfect for a 125 or many fish, so yeah, it's a no-brainer for me, I don't.
I did. You even have to think about it, peacocks and get a bunch of venustus or a living stone eye or just a bunch of peacocks or something, all different colors, you'll have an absolutely gorgeous tank, so oh yeah. I definitely agree with that 100, I mean, there's nothing better than a tank that has all kinds of different colors and the fish are bigger, they're not like little community fish, so a lot of people will describe a peacock and happy. The tank is the closest thing to a saltwater tank in terms of colors that you'll ever find in the freshwater hobby, so yeah, again, since we're talking about the obvious, let's move on to the last size on our list. and again this one for me, I'm going to go ahead and go first, okay on this one because it's the biggest no-brainer of all time, everyone knows exactly what I'm going to say when we jump into the 150 gallon tank, you know?
I'm going to say oscars I mean that's just what else I'm going to say here's where the oscar is really going to shine they're going to be able to grow to their full potential they're going to grow to their full potential in a smaller tank than a 150, but a 150 will really be the place where they will just love their life, they will be so happy that they will grow up very, very fast, look at that guy, come on. I mean, how can you not love that fish? I'm on a mission to make it the most popular fish in the world and, uh, they already are, but it'll still be good, I can take credit for it even in a couple of years. although they are already as popular as they are, but I love the Oscars, I love their puppy nature.
I love everything about them. I have made videos about them. I could talk all day about the Oscars, but I'm going to stop because of this video. Enough is enough and you already knew you were watching this video and you're thinking when we get to the big tank, John is going to say 150 or yeah, John is going to say Oscar anyway, I'm rambling on about what your fish is for 150, okay? so I feel like I'm repeating myself here but my recommendation what I like for a 150 is all sizes of bunas, not just the smaller ibunos but any ibunos you want because then you don't worry as much oh should I hit a bumblebee there or should I put a cicolify there you can put them all there but you still want to make sure you have plenty of places for them to hide or whatever you know their caves and you want to have the right setup because there are some that get bigger than others, but if you balance it the right way, you can have a successful imbuna tank and it can be even prettier than a peacock tank.
Wow, so there are fighting words, but the good thing about a 125 and a 150 is, let's face it, we are confining fish that if they were born in the wild, we are both sitting here like this, but if they were in the wild, neither of these fish have Most of them have been in the hobby that we don't have. anyone who's ever been in the wild, but if you were in the wild you would have huge rivers and lakes to swim in and we're confining them to these little boxes, so a 125 to 150 that's where you are, it's like I don't know, it's almost like you're doing what's best for these fish.
That's why I tell myself that all the tanks would be six feet long. I know that's unrealistic, but this is where all hobby fish except those that get too big for 125 and 150 really get a chance to shine. I'm glad you used bunas again because it's really spectacular to see a full bonus 150 or maybe a 240 like the one you see behind lisa here, huh? Let's say 250, I meant 240, full 240. Okay, full of bonus, it's beautiful to see that you can have them in large quantities and it's just spectacular, but I would love to see all the fish. A 150 gallon tank full of cardinal tetras would be simply magnificent.
Bottom line, I'm not going to try to go on a crusade for everyone to get these big giant tanks, but I think it's best for any fish in this hobby, except for the likes of arapaima and things like that. They would get too old for that, but it was still a lot of fun. These again are our favorite fish for these large tanks. There are rules that you must have a tank this size for these. It's just what we would love. to look at in these tanks, I hope that has given you some ideas of what you can put in whatever size aquarium you have and if you have something that falls between one of the tanks we talked about, just choose the one that is smaller and you will be okay, so yeah, it was a lot of fun to do.
Thank you very much for watching and we'll see you next time.
