It does. I am the first and the last, the beginning and the end. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was empty and without form, and full of darkness. And the Spirit of God moved over its waters. And God commanded: "Let there be light." And the light emerged. God saw that the light was good and he separated the light from the darkness. He called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and morning on the first day. Then God said, "Let there be a division in the waters." And the waters parted.

God called the area where he appeared Heaven. And there was evening and morning the second day. Then God said, "Let the waters below be gathered together, and let the dry land appear." And so it happened, just as God commanded. God called the waters that were gathered together Seas. And he called the dry land Earth. Then God said, "Let the earth produce grass, plants and trees that bear fruit and seed to reproduce." And it happened again. Grass, plants, and trees grew from the earth, and God was glad. And there was evening and morning the third day. Then God spoke again. "Let there be light in the expanse of the heavens to illuminate the earth and separate the day from the night." Thus God created the sun, the moon and the stars, and with them established the days, the

And God saw that this was also good. And there was evening and morning on the fourth day. God spoke again and said, "May the seas be filled with living creatures, and the sky filled with birds." Then, by his word, God created all living things, great and small, that live in the sea. And God created every kind of winged bird, and it pleased him. Then God blessed them, saying: Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters, the earth, and the heavens. And there was evening and morning the fifth day. Then God gave another order. "Let the earth produce cattle, creeping animals, every beast and every wild animal according to its kind." And so it was, just as God ordered.

And God saw that his

was good. After this, God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. And the man became a living soul. God called man Adam and gave him dominion over all creatures on earth, sky and sea. Now the Lord God had planted a garden in Eden in the east. There he placed Adam to tend the garden and cultivate it. In the garden, God caused beautiful trees to grow that bore fruit good for eating. God also tended to the garden by causing a mist to rise from the earth to water the soil and a river to flow through the garden to the surrounding land.
There were also two very different trees in the garden. One was the tree of life and the other the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then God spoke to Adam and said, "From every tree in the garden you may freely eat, but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you may not eat. For if you do, you will certainly die." Then the Lord brought to Adam all the animals that he had created, and Adam named each of the animals according to its species. All the creatures that God had created had his partner, except Adam.
And the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone." Then God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept, God removed one of Adam's ribs. From the rib, God created a suitable companion and helper for Adam. When Adam woke up and saw God's new

, he exclaimed: "You are bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. And because you were formed from man, you will be called Woman." And the woman was called Eve, because she is the mother of all living things. And so it was that God created man and woman in his own image.
And the man and the woman were naked, and yet they were not ashamed. God blessed Adam and Eve and told them, "Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and have dominion over it. I give you dominion over every living thing that I have created." And so God provided man with a partner and established that when a man and his wife joined together, the two would become one. And there was evening and morning the sixth day. On the seventh day, the Lord God rested from all that he created: the heavens and the earth, and all the wonders of him.
So he blessed the seventh day and sanctified it. And the serpent, which was more crafty than any of the creatures that the Lord God had made, was in the garden. And he came to Eve and said to her, "Did God really say that we should not eat from any tree in the garden?" Oh. No. We can eat the fruit of any tree, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We should never eat from that tree, because if we do, God said we will surely die. Come now. You surely won't die. God knows that if you eat from that tree your eyes will truly open and you will become as wise as God Himself.
Is God denying you good? Don't you want to be wise, wise like God? Tempted by the serpent's words, Eve turned her gaze toward the forbidden tree. The more she looked at him, the more attractive she seemed to him, until she wanted nothing more than to taste the fruit of her. What harm could she suffer if I eat this fruit? And indeed, I will gain wisdom. How can that be wrong? So Eve went against God's command and she ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and shared it with her husband. After eating the forbidden fruit, the two realized that they were naked.
And for the first time they felt shame. They got scared. Adam and Eve realized that they had disobeyed their creator. What have we done? They quickly gathered fig leaves and intertwined them to cover their naked bodies. Soon after, they heard the sound of God as he walked through the garden in the cool of the day. Adam. Adam. Where are you? Eva, come quickly. We must hide. Adam, why are you hiding from me? I—I heard your voice in the garden, and I was ashamed and afraid, because we are naked. Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the only tree from which I commanded you not to eat? The... the woman you created, she gave me the fruit, and... and yes, I ate it. Eva, what have you done? The snake. She cheated on me. She told me she wouldn't die. She told me that I would gain wisdom and that I would be like you. And then I ate the fruit. Addressing the serpent, God said: Because you have done this, you are cursed. Cursed upon all living beings. You will crawl on your belly and eat the dust of the earth all the days of your life.
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between her offspring and yours. He will crush your head and you will bruise his heel. Then the Lord God turned to Eve. I will multiply your pains by having children. With great pain you will give birth. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you. And then God said to Adam, "Cursed is the ground because of you, because you have listened to your wife and have eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat. All the days of your life you will have to work the ground." .
With pain and sweat you will work the land for your food until you return to the land from which you were taken, for dust you are, and to dust you will return. In his mercy, the Lord God made tunics of animal skins to clothe Adam and Eve. Then he spoke and said: Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He should not be allowed to eat from the tree of life and live forever in such a state. Then the Lord God expelled the man from the Garden of Eden along with his wife to work the land from which he had been formed.
And he placed the cherubim and a sword of fire that turned in all directions to guard the tree of life.
