More Interesting Facts About,

the 2022 hyundai ioniq 5 is a quirky futuristic electric suv...

First a little overview of the ionic 5. Now this is not a production car yet so I can't drive it yet but I can take you on a full tour and show you all the details and I'll start with a little overview. Specifically, they will offer it in two versions with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Rear wheel drive is the base model with 225 horsepower, you can upgrade to all wheel drive and get 320 horsepower and 0 60 like 5.2 seconds range wise, Hyundai says they are aiming for around 300M range with rear wheel drive or around 270. My with all wheel drive and also there is a fast charging system that can add about 70M of range in about 5 minutes if you can find a charger that is powerful enough in terms of size, the ionic 5 It has five seats and, although it looks like a hatchback, it is a crossover about the same size as a Honda CRV or a Toyota Rav 4, a little shorter in length than a Mustang Mach e or a Tesla Model and the ionic 5 as well.
the 2022 hyundai ioniq 5 is a quirky futuristic electric suv
It has a somewhat strange name. Hyundai currently sells a car called the ionic, which is an electric or hybrid hatchback, so you would think that maybe this would be the ionic 2, but it's not, it's the ionic 5. The old ionic model is disappearing and Hyundai is launching a whole new range of ionic models, starting with this one, so today I'm going to take you on a full tour of the ionic 5 and show you its quirks and features before it goes on sale this fall. Well, I'm going to start with the quirks and features of the ionic 5 with the quirkiest features there are a lot of them, but I'm going to start with the quirkiest and that means starting with the pixels, kind of a theme with the ionic 5 and in no way part that's more obvious than the brake lights that you can see all over the On the back of the car you have these little squares that look like pixels when the brake lights are off.
the 2022 hyundai ioniq 5 is a quirky futuristic electric suv
Now look, when they are on, you can see the taillights on and they look like little illuminated pixels on the back of the car. car and check it with the turn signals on, you can see the pixels inside the taillight again, the pixels on the back have a very Pixy look here on the Onic 5, definitely a distinctive look compared to basically the design of the back of all the others and the unusual. The pixel situation continues on the front. You thought the taillights were strange. Look at the headlights here again. You can see this square shape that resembles pixels.
Very distinctive look on the front again and with the turn signal on, you can see it also lights up like a. square again meant to mean some sort of pixel shape, you have the same thing on the mirrors, the little turn signal on the mirrors on most cars, well this is a row of squares again designed to look like pixels, it's supposed which all gives this car a sort of distinctive remember-it-on-the-road feel that you're sure to feel when you see those lights, nothing else just looks like that and speaking of lighting, as if the pixels and squares weren't weird enough, what such the top of the bumper at the moment there is no The light is on, it looks like a pretty normal bumper, but you turn on the headlights and you can see that these small vertical strips of light have appeared almost out of nowhere at the top of the bumper again to give this car a kind of unusual signature.
At the front, these vertical lights run across the entire front end. You've seen some kind of taillight bars. Well, here's a headlight bar with these little vertical light strips. Again, a very distinctive lighting element on this car, especially when combined with the strange pixel headlights. very strange, but the pixels and lighting are not the most peculiar quirk of this car, in fact I think they probably come in third place, second place goes to the magnetic dash, okay, take a look at this interior, you can see that there's a little pad on the To the left of the board and right here I have a trusty magnet from Kramer's, a bookstore in Washington DC.
I take my magnet and I put it on this pad and it stays up because this part of the board is magnetized, so you can stick a magnet on it. there just like you would put it on your refrigerator and if you have a little reminder that you want to stick there with a magnet, you can put it there or maybe a parking ticket, something that you want to keep in place, it's right there on the magnetized part of your dash which is a cool little Quirk, but probably the quirkiest Quirk on this car is back here with the charging port, you press and hold a little button on the key fob to open the charging port door, you press it and you can see.
It opens electronically and the first thing you notice when it opens is more pixels in there and of course this is the place where you charge the car and plug it in and charge it, but I have an adapter here that you can get as an accessory with the ionic 5, if you plug this adapter in you can use it to charge things so it charges from the car battery and use the car to basically charge things for example right now i am using this adapter to power an air compressor that is blowing up my little watermelon beach ball and you can see it's actually popping the beach ball the Hyundai ionic 5 is popping my beach ball which is something I never thought I'd say but that's what's happening and Hyundai considers This is a real world application, for example, you go to the beach and you bring all your inflatable beach toys.
Well, you don't have to inflate them beforehand, you can inflate them with your car's charging port in the parking lot if you have one. Of these, of course, there are all sorts of other things that you might want to power with your giant car battery and so you can do that, a pretty cool feature on the ionic 5 and next we go back to the ionic 5 to go over the rest. of the interesting quirks and features starting with the fact that the steering wheel does not have a logo in the center, no Hyundai emblem here does not say ionic, it does not say anything, which is wildly unusual and in fact everywhere you look In This interior you won't see Hyundai or ionic written practically anywhere, neither on the door panels nor on the dashboard, it doesn't say anything.
Hyundai says they're trying to keep it really minimalist here, so they got rid of all the logos and that includes the one in the center of the steering wheel where basically everyone puts their logo, not on this car. That said, one thing you do notice when you walk in here, more pixels on the door panel, you can see this little line of pixels meant to join the outside pixels with the inside, you also have on the door sill that is written ionic , which is pretty much the only place that appears in this interior that is covered as you drive, but next to ionic you can see that five is written in pixels, this is the ionic 5 and they are celebrating that on the doorstep with the pixels aside, another interesting quirk of this vehicle is the center console, you can see it's right here between the seats, it doesn't actually look that unusual. you have an armrest, you have some storage underneath and some cup holders, the unusual part is that it can be moved, you put your hand in here, there's a little latch, you pull it and then you can push it back so the rear passengers have more access easy to this center forward. center console and then it is set back a little bit in the front, now there are a few reasons why you may want to move the center console forward or back depending on where you are sitting, it may offer more comfort or just give you more space if you want to remove it off the road, but there's another benefit to the Ionic that you can see mounted under the rear seats.
There is a household style outlet here and you can plug a laptop into this outlet and then move the center console. back and use it as a table that you can work at if you want from the back seat which is a pretty cool feature because the plug is right there and then a table can slide right into place and that's a nice little idea in the ionic 5 next, another interesting quirk of the ionic 5 is the gear selector which is a large silver piece that sticks out from the steering column on most cars with a column shifter, you move it into place , but not here, but you just move the end. a little bit down if you want to go into reverse or you move the end up if you want to go into neutral it's obviously in the middle and if you want to put it in park you press the big p button at the end and then you're in park and that's the selector Quite strange gearing on the ionic 5 and speaking of controls worth noting, the ionic 5 has a start and stop button, you get in the car and to start it you press this big button here and then it says Started.
I mentioned that because some EVS don't have a start/stop button, you just get in, put your foot on the brake and then they sense that you're in and then they're ready to go, but the ionic 5 does have that button. you use it to start it and of course to turn it off and stop when you're done driving. Now, next to the start/stop button, you can see that the climate controls are mounted here, they are not physical buttons for the climate controls, but they are on. this type of capacitive touch screen situation and that's how you adjust all the climate controls, fan speed, automatic fan location temperature, everything is there in the center of that screen instead of traditional buttons, now talking about screens on this car, you probably saw before.
There are two large displays mounted on the dash, one in the center and one for the gauge cluster. Both are 10-inch screens, they are the same size and the center one is quite similar to the one found in other newer Hyundai models. intuitive version of their infotainment screen, although I will say that one thing I like is this EV section that you press and you can see the range of the car on this big green carpet, as if it tells you exactly how much more range you have to drive on the green carpet. I think it's a great thing.
One disappointment about this center screen is that that is where the controls for the heated and cooled seats are, so although you have the climate controls on the center screen here, it is not where the controls for the heated and cooled seats are for turn them on. you have to go on screen to a menu and only then can you activate them in something that so many automakers make complicated when really it should be just pressing a button. It's a little disappointing to see that hidden in a menu here, but otherwise it's pretty standard just right for a Hyundai infotainment system that's quite responsive, very intuitive and even has nature sounds, meaning you can hear sounds of nature. nature while driving instead of music or the radio, just these preloaded nature sounds like this.
Now, next, we move on to another part. to the other screen here, the gauge cluster screen, which is quite unusual. You can see on this screen that you have like the car in the middle and it's flanked by two things like Runway that look very strange, the left thing that looks like Runway which is your speedometer and it will increase as your speed continues to increase and you can see that there a digital readout of your speed just above, on the right, which looks like a track showing your power or charge usage, depending on exactly how you're driving the car, whether you're accelerating hard or regenerating using braking. will show that there, in that little hint on the g gauge cluster display, both of those things are quite unusual and a bit of a strange way to display them, but that's what you get in this car and by the way, Speaking of that gauge cluster screen, you can change the way it looks by changing the driving mode, you press this little button on the steering wheel, you press it and you can cycle through different driving modes and you can see that the changes in the gauge cluster display correspond to what driving mode you're in, whether it's sport, eco or normal, whatever it changes for each driving mode and by the way, speaking of the mode controller driving on the steering wheel, another interesting control on the steering wheel is the paddle shifters, you have paddle shifters here. which seems a bit strange in an electric car where there aren't really any gears, the paddle shifters aren't meant to change gears, they change the amount of regen you're doing with the brake system, so you pull the negative paddle back and I'll be doing more regen, it'll kind of slow the car down, whereas if you use the positive paddle, it'll dial it back and do less regen and that's how the paddle shifters work on this car.
I see it more and more. In electric vehicles, the paddle shifters control regeneration, by the way, there is another item worth mentioning on the steering wheel that you can see on the right. This little touch panel has a lot of different controls for a lot of different driver assistance systems, like steering, automatic braking, a bunch of different things. Unfortunately, since I can't drive this car, I can't demonstrate or verify it. Find out how that technology works, but I will be able to very soon and I will provide an update of sorts to this video to let you know how all the driver assistance systems work in the ionic 5.
Next, another interesting element in This is how it feels in this interior, very airy, very light and open, and that's because you have a huge sunroof that goes across basically the entire roof without a cross bar in the middle. Many vehicles with a large panoramic roof have a cross bar, but this one doesn't, now the downside is that you can't actually open the sunroof, it's just this fixed piece of glass, but it lets in a lot of light and provides an open cockpit feel and Airy when you're sitting on it. car and by the way, speaking of the feel of this car, another interesting element: the driver's seat, you can adjust it so that it is reclined, not completely flat, but very far back so that you can sleep in it.
This is a benefit that Hyundai came up with. you're on a road trip you're getting tired you want to take a nap you don't have to like it try to sleep uncomfortably in an upright seat you can lay the seat back and sleep quite comfortably and you can see that there's even a footrest down here that will extend to give you your legs a little more support. If you stretch out while you sleep, you don't see many automatic footrests or driver's seats or seats that recline, but this car has them. which is a nice touch and next I'll move on to the back seat of the ionic 5, but before I do that I want to talk about getting into the car and specifically the door handles, now that when you get in you can see the door.
The handles are nice and flat with the body looking great, there are no ugly protruding door handles, but you're probably wondering how exactly you get in. You walk up to the car with the remote, press the unlock button, and then the door handles open. as you can see and you just grab the door handle and open the door, look again, press the button, they come out and then you can open them now, when you're done, you park somewhere where you want to lock the car and just press the button lock on the remote and then you can see that the door handles are flat against the body once again now that the car is closed, look again, press the button and the door handles are flat now it's worth the worth noting that there is Another way to open the door handles also is if you have the key in your pocket, you walk towards the car, you can touch this little square on the driver's door handle and then the door handles will open .
Actually, you don't. You have to take out the key and press the unlock button and it is the same when you want to lock the car. If you have the key in your pocket, you don't have to take it out just to lock the doors. you just touch the door handle and you can see they close and then you can walk away and you don't have to take out the key fob, great, but anyway, next I'm going to go up to the ionic 5, so I open the doors, the handle out the door comes out and then I get in and the first thing you notice when you get in the back of this car is that it's tremendously spacious back here, exceptionally spacious for a compact crossover the size of a Rav 4, you get a There's a lot more room for Sitting in the back of the iIC 5, especially leg and knee room, than in any other compact SUV of this size.
The packaging in the back seat of this vehicle is quite impressive. It's surprisingly huge and the main reason it's so big. Back here is the wheelbase on the ionic 5, it's tremendously long, which is basically the distance between the two wheels, much longer, in fact, than the Hyundai Palisade, which is like a medium to large size SUV, this is a compact crossover and it has a longer wheelbase and that means more room for passengers and that's a pretty cool trick, but when you think about it, it makes sense for an electric car to have a longer wheelbase, you can move the wheels fronts pretty far forward because you don't have an engine there that you can We're competing for space, so this car has a very short front overhang, as you can see, because the front wheels have been moved up a lot and that gives it more room for passengers.
Now the drawback of having such a long wheelbase in such a relatively short vehicle. Does it look like a hatchback when you first approach it? It really looks like a hatchback, not an SUV or a crossover, and it doesn't have much ground clearance either, which improves the look of the hatchback, but from a size and offering perspective nonetheless. -All-wheel drive pricing will be similar to other crossovers. This is intended to be a crossover, although it certainly has a hatchback look. When I first saw a photo, I thought it was a Hatchback, but no, it's a crossover with a long wheelbase. of misleading and since I'm talking about design, let's go over some of the interesting quirks and features on the exterior of this car.
For me, the most notable thing is the overall shape it can be seen, unlike many other electric vehicles on the market. It's not really teardrop shaped from your perspective, you can see it's much more boxy and boxy like a traditional crossover, but that's actually a trick, you see, there's a spoiler back here mounted on the top of the hatchback and it passes the air through. . under the spoiler at the rear, so from a profile it has a squarer, longer roofline appearance thanks to this spoiler, but it actually has a relatively similar teardrop shape to other EVs, it's just that the air passes under this spoiler at the rear and so on.
It doesn't look like it's teardrop shaped, which is an interesting design element, and in fact this car has several interesting design elements integrated throughout, for example, this character line running down the side is not something that is seen very often. It's very distinctive to the look of this car, this kind of diagonal line that runs down both doors, it's certainly an unusual line and it gives this car a distinctive look. Also unusual is the hood situation on this car, you can see the wrapped front hood. all the way to the wheel arches in the front and that's why there aren't any visible hood-like lines like a lot of other cars do, instead you have this kind of wraparound hood that, frankly, looks pretty cool, pretty attractive and with a

futuristic

touch and talking about unusual lines.
On the outside of this car, how about they surround the wheel arch? These types of unusual lines I suppose are intended to convey the movement of the wheels and tires. It's a little weird looking, but it also looks a little

futuristic

and kind of cool and talks. of strange lines here, how about the wheels themselves? A very unusual design. You don't see a snowflake star species very often. Very complicated wheel design but again quite distinctive for this car. Next I mentioned the unusual appearance of the hood. A minute ago, but what about what's under here? Obviously there's no gasoline engine, so what do you have?
Well, it would be a small compartment. Here you can see this plastic compartment that says EV. You lift the lid and you can see the charging storage, not much, but. There's some storage up here and of course you've also got some mechanical components down here, like some fluid reservoirs, that kind of thing, so now there's a little bit of storage in the front, unfortunately you can't open this front compartment from the keychain you really have. go to the driver's footwell and pull this latch and then you can open it, so it's not the most convenient storage area, but there is a little bit of storage in the front in addition to what's in the back, so Let's talk about what's in the back next.
The cargo area back here has a power tailgate, of course, and when you open it you can see that there's a pretty large cargo area here again. This car makes pretty impressive use of space, although I will say that the sloping roof design can be a lot more when you're inside facing rear here and that steals some of the cargo space on top. If you're loading like a big, square item, it may not fit, but you've got a good cargo storage space, a nice big floor. floor back here you have a good space where you can store cargo and other items behind and to the side, since I'm out of the ionic 5, another interesting quirk that this car has is the ability to move it while you're outside, take a look at the keychain here, you can see these two buttons, one says p with an arrow pointing up and the other says pee with an arrow pointing down.
If you're outside the car and you press and hold those buttons, you can see the car. will start to move, the theory here is that if you're parked in a very tight parking space, like in your building's parking lot, and you can't really get in because it's too tight, you can just pull the car out and then get in it. Now, the car won't like to come close to you and spin across a long parking lot like Tesla's call, but this is still a pretty cool feature. You may like to drive your Hyundai ionic 5 with remote control, that's pretty cool and finally two other important elements.
With the ionic 5 that I want to cover now, we don't really know the price, but it can be assumed that it will be competitive with other electric crossovers like the Volkswagen id4, the Ford Mustang Mach e, that sort of thing, so I would expect it to be priced. Similar to those vehicles in terms of launch, it will go on sale this fall, but not in all states only in California and the other states that use California emissions, as well as larger states like Texas and Florida , they will be in the car this fall after that. Sometime in

2022

, Hyundai will expand availability of the ionic 5 to other states.
As for the name I mentioned above, it was a bit confusing ionic 5, why is it called that? Not like ionic 2, what do the five mean? Well, it turns out that that means. its positioning in the ionic line Hyundai says there will be more ionic cars to come, including the ionic 6, which will be a slightly larger sedan than this one, and the ionic 7, which will be like a stockade-sized V SUV, sort of BMW has 3. 5 Series 7 Series indicating position in the lineup, that's the case here too and this is the ionic 5. I guess it's in the middle position of the five in the lineup, that's the story of the name and that's the Hyundai ionic 5, it's got some cool futuristic styling and some interesting futuristic touches, and it's perfectly timed to arrive just as the electric crossover segment is heating up.
This one looks promising with some cool quirks and I'll be looking forward to driving it later this year, but for now. These are the peculiarities and characteristics of the Hyundai ionic 5
