The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is No Compromise Electrified Wrangler For On & Off The Road
Jan 12, 2022Now in the auto industry we're at the beginning of a tipping point between internal combustion and electrification and if you're really wondering if that's really going to happen in the next few years, well I'm in a Jeep Wrangler today and as you know what the

jeep
wrangler
is probably the vehicle that represents jeep
as a whole this is the most iconic vehicle you can buy that has the american brand and i'm here in austin texas because jeep is finally releasing the first plug-in hybrid andelectrified
version of thewrangler
, essentially we've got the same two-liter turbo engine up front, a 17 kilowatt hour lithium ion battery pack under the back seat and jeep says you could theoretically drive this thing a total of 21 miles in all electric range which means i could take it off road
like i just did in pure silence because this vehicle has the ability to drive on its own n electric power even in low range now of course because this is also a jeep that needs to be Trail rated and as you can see this particular one I'm showing you here is the Rubicon version it doesn't give up anything in terms of from off-road
capability to its gas-only version, right behind me is the high-altitude Sahara. version so its a more road ready version now obviously im not in my local area the jeep has taken me about two hours south of austin texas where we are going to take this rubicon version off road the sahara version i' In fact, I'm going to take it on the road because I want to see what the electric range is like.If they're in the market for a Wrangler, but they're also looking for an electric car. Does the new four by e represent the best of both? worlds stay tuned to find out so jeep has a great off road course for us at the lunch stop but obviously people who buy the 4 for e i think will mostly drive it around tommy most people who buy wranglers will drive. this vehicle on the road anyway so i'm on a high altitude model which is based on the sahara trim level this is the more street oriented version and there are three different drive modes here there is hybrid electric and e-save e-save basically allows you to conserve the battery or you can also recharge it if you want to charge the battery while you drive we have to get out of austin here so I'm going to start on electric mode here and also turn on regen max which basically enables the one pedal drive function which is really weird to see in a jeep but we're starting here the recalculation of the route on the plug-in hybrid wrangler and this is very weird this wrangler is driving right now without engine. no engine that the gas engine is completely off it's creating some kind of electric motor hum that sounds like a revving noise it's supposed to let pedestrians know who's distracted with their cell phones probably that's what you know kinda active the vehicle approaching this noise it creates does it at about 25 miles per hour or less you can hear it it's like electronic noise a little bit worse and I'm lifting my foot off the throttle here you can feel the regen braking is pretty strong In this car it's not exactly the full one pedal drive I experienced in something like the maki or many tesla products but you don't normally find this in an electric vehicle in a hybrid vehicle on a brush street which is pretty good now the electric motor only offers about 134 horsepower on its own and 181 pound-feet of torque, so you'll obviously get full throttle when you have it ga in its hybrid mode but this is pretty quick for city riding and the good thing about the sahara version is this is the more street oriented model so we have tires that are not that big we have suspension that is not it has as much ground clearance as the rubicon but still feels like a wrangler really like the way these 20 inch wheels look on this thing 35 north south south south south sorry rob but i can still hear that rev buzz up around 30 miles an hour in this thing and it gets louder when I step on my foot so it's a really cool experience it's a futuristic experience so the fact that you meet an
electrified
Wrangler like this in America's most iconic vehicle it's a really cool thing actually I mean it really shows the tipping point of electrification how they're starting to take the place of internal combustion vehicles we're going to continue to see more and more of these vehicles now the one I'm driving also has the one touch power soft top so it essentially has a hard top on the outside but the roof panel is a cloth material and it allows me to basically reattach the whole ceiling.
More Interesting Facts About,
the 2021 jeep wrangler 4xe is no compromise electrified wrangler for on off the road...
I was hoping this model would give me a little more soundproofing from the outside world, but as you can hear, as we get up to highway speeds, it's still pretty loud. Upstairs in the cab wranglers aren't known for hearing obviously quiet interior but I'm still in electric mode right now and you can see the gas engine hasn't started I only drive in pure electric mode when I started this trip down The way I want to mention the range was showing 26 miles 26 miles is pretty good that's about 5 more miles than what the EPA says this can work uh remember remember jeep originally said this would have 25 miles of range But the actual number is 21.
I would imagine the Rubicon model has less range due to its larger knobby or 33 inch tall tires. I don't do anything to make the 4x model a bit more aerodynamic, but it can be seen on the highway at highway speeds. It's still pretty loud here, but the Wrangler is a much more comfortable vehicle. In general, the seats are quite comfortable. ra trim or this high altitude version has a more luxurious leather material really nice feels good the regenerative brakes are also very nice I barely have to touch the brake when traffic stops and it brakes automatically for me and it's also putting back on power the battery pack which is a great thing that's the beauty of these one pedal drive features uh is you can save your brake pads you don't have to use the brake as much your friction brakes but this is essentially what a lot of wrangler 4x8 owners are going to experience driving it around town in downtown austin right here trying to get out of town um being in stop and go traffic it will be on the highway so yeah the wrangler is all about capability and being able to get off the beaten path but this is where most people are going to go now im going to switch the car to hybrid mode when i switch it to mo do of high bear this is where it is going to automatically adapt between the gasoline engine and the electric for the best possible efficiency now the interesting thing about this mode is that when I step on my foot, the gasoline engine turns on when I step on my foot and it also did the same thing in electric mode when you had it in full electric mode if you turned it all the way down the gas engine would kick in to help give you a little more power that's something that really surprised me and it's similar to the last addon of pacifica that I drove because it doesn't allow for a fully electric mode only when it demands full throttle so now that we're mostly on the highway here I'm going to put it in its e-save mode e-save mode I've got it tuned right now for save the battery because i want to be able to use it later down the road.
I can also go to the screen here and change the settings to charge the battery right now. Battery shows 86 charges 22 miles of range so no I don't need to charge it but want to mainly us. e the gas engine so we can save it for the trails later and on the highway the 4 by e essentially drives like any other wrangler although note the extra weight this version doesn't feel as heavy as you know only the versions normal with a gas engine because it carries an additional 800 pounds of weight and of course with the electric motor the battery pack is a little lower to the ground so you are supposed to know how to help with the center of gravity kinda I mean I wouldn't be cornering like a sports car in this thing but notice the extra weight on the Wrangler which will help with handling skills uh putting my foot all the way here for full throttle you can feel this actually it's pretty fast. it feels a lot quicker than the last pentastar and only the two liter turbo wrangler i drove is because the electric motor is adding its electronic assist here so i'm going to put it back in hybrid mode here put your foot down again and You can afford l The transmission takes a second to downshift, but you'll get up to highway speeds very quickly.
I mean what you do here, however, there is a lot of noise, even with the one-touch sky top, power heart with hard and soft top. roof panel for the sunroof feature it's still a pretty loud vehicle here and you'll notice that noise even when you're going over 55 miles an hour so again if you're thinking the Wrangler is a really quiet road car and comfortable still rides much better than the seats but still pretty loud on the highway at higher speeds now even though the 4 by e is about 800 lbs more it has about the same torque as the v8 wrangler so lets try some acceleration of stop and 0-60 in six seconds is what jeep tells us feels a little soft coming off the line now had it on two wheel drive huh jeep says for top throttle you really want to put it in Auto 4x4 whose autotune is sort of like the s plug it and forget settings so you don't necessarily have to worry about it when it's slippery outside so all you have to do is basically e stomp so let's try it again now in 4 per car because remember 0 to 60 in 6 seconds makes this pretty quick honestly and as you can see my cameraman is right next to me for the rubicon model why no?
We'll have a little impromptu drag race. Here I am in the sahara version or the sahara version. high altitude he is in the most off road version with the 33 inch tall bf grid-reach tires i will also turn off the traction control because i dont want anything to cut the power even though i am in auto 4x4 right now oh wow that is pretty awesome , you definitely notice it's a lot quicker when you have it in four auto and you turn the traction control off this thing jumps from 0-60 in six seconds it definitely feels that way that's pretty sweet and the gas engine It's got that typical 2 liter 4 cylinder drone the 8 speed automatic is interesting it's a bit slow however when you're trying to pass people when you put your foot down when you're just cruising at 40 it's a little slow to respond i imagine a cvt would be faster i would make it even faster but i applaud jeep for not going that route because they offer and you know an ecvt on the pacifica hybrid but i'm so happy they win c With the 8 speed automatic this is going to be better of course hi how do you do that? any sense did you have it I'm not I'm not that fat you're not fat it's um you had it in oh oh I'm going to stop here you can try again yeah I still got it recording right now so we'll try again you got it in four by car i'm in hybrid ok and then turn off traction control a bunch of buttons i found everything ok so now let's try again let's see if the rubicon is the same floyd come on sorry rob where's my shirt that says sorry rob ?, I know, so I think the reason is your model has those bigger tires, yeah those bigger tires are definitely cutting, I'm also higher off the ground, aren't you, you have about an extra inch of ground clearance yeah so air tires would you like to try again right now it seems about oh yo I'll tell you what going highway speeds in this thing is interesting it's loud in here it's very loud you think it's noisy there, I have the hood bland, honestly, I don't think this is anything. quieter it's very loud interesting is your retractable on a hard top or a soft top so the retractable part is a soft top the oh ok so yeah it's still nice yeah I got you it's still pretty loud so I was telling people if you're expecting this to be quieter you might want to go with the actual hardtop model and then add the hardtop liner which should make it a bit quieter but this soft top model It's definitely a bit louder, but as we saw, the Rubicon is a bit slower.
I guess it depends on who's reaction time is better, but the extra inch of agony currents, bigger tires slow it down a bit. I also think yours is heavier. yours is a little moreHeavy due to off-road driving other than the driver. out of a lot of setups here I feel like I could probably sit here for about 20 minutes setting up and calibrating everything just the way I wanted to as far as you don't even know regular driving stuff but hybrid system as well so I don't know they're There's a lot going on in this car, yeah, I mean, I like how they did it because, um, it makes you feel like you're driving a special Wrangler, I mean, once you set it up, you know? basically you're going to have it but i would just drive like we got 60 miles on this road here it's probably better in e-safe mode if you want to save it for the road but i find in hybrid mode that's where it gives you maximum throttle and e-safe slows it down a bit um okay great well uh I guess let's keep this up for a while um yeah we can go all the way I don't care unless you need to stop to be whatever I'm not okay I'm okay I'm going to finish the scene of highway driving here is fine sounds like oh look two karens going for a race so its always fun when i can have my cameraman basically next to me in a different trim level of the car we are driving but as we saw the four by e the sahara fit the sahara fit is the slightly faster option because it's a little lighter the tires are a little more road friendly so if you want the one that's faster go for this model this fit Now I want to briefly mention the fuel economy, the trip computer, right?
Now it says I'm averaging 20.6 mpg which is in line with the epa goal which is a bit after some enthusiastic driving before it was showing 23 mpg which is really good not that good though , like the diesel wrangler the diesel wrangler the eco diesel will actually get slightly better gas mileage but I'm going to go all out here and say the 4 by e is the better choice because this is the one that reminds you could potentially drive in full mode electric and you know you don't have to use gas if your commute is less than 10 miles one way to work you basically could plug this in every time you get home or if you could charge it at work you know if your commute is longer than 20 miles um I may never feel like I have to fill this thing up with gas though I wish that when I put my foot in all electric mode the gas engine wouldn't start but the jeep has it programmed that wave is my supos ition because they want you to give it full throttle, whereas toyota and my rav4 prime Don't you know it stalls the gas engine but then you have a slower 0-60 time?
I also think that the electric motor in this vehicle with 134 horsepower is quite powerful, but the main one, for example, has 180 horsepower. just not as powerful but other than that really great car on the road but we're going to hit the track we're going to switch to the rubicon model and see how it handles off road because the jeep tells us off road capability hasn't been has committed to this vehicle now, the jeep wrangler has quickly become the company's best-selling model with jeep selling just over 200,000 units last year making the car a better seller compared to something like a honda accord.
America last year a car that has always been one of the best selling vehicles so as you can see for the jeep model 4 by e there really wasn't too many changes made to the exterior so we'll mainly be talking about the style. changes you do see with the very subtle ones now first of all I'm showing you the one here is a Rubicon trim so this is the one that is essentially the more off road oriented model it has 10.8 inches of ground clearance so it's about an inch longer than standard and you can immediately see all the blue accents on this car you can see the tow recovery hooks are blue it has some blue accents along the hood graphic throughout From the Rubicon badge here, it generally has the same design elements here.
I love the steel bumper groups. The Jeep says you haven't lost any off-road capability just because you've gone with the electrified version. The only option I would probably add is painted fenders. -the painted ones this will probably be better if you plan on going off road but I like the overall look when you painted them now again here is the charging port for the vehicle um two hours basically to charge the jeep it says there will be chargers chargers powered by solar on all the great trails so if you go to mohawk utah you'll find a level two charger there those are being installed as we speak and again the ground clearance here 10.8 inches so the live battery is under the seat rear of the vehicle and they actually managed to lift it up quite a bit so it has skid plates underneath that protect all the hybrid components this again isn't going to give up anything in terms of capability I also like the unique wheels you get on the rubicon these they are a 17 inch wheel wrapped in 33 inch bf goodrich ko2 all terrain tires these wheels and tires again are not necessarily You good for aerodynamics Jeep actually could have made a few more aero changes if they wanted to give us more range but they wanted this to be a jeep too.
Now I want to accompany you to this unlimited version of uh sahara. This is actually how high altitude the sahara and high altitude models will get with these black painted 20in. Wheels I really like the way these wheels look. This wheel was actually first introduced on the high-altitude gas version. this vehicle even though jeep says it still has almost 10 inches of ground clearance on this model i also like the painted bumpers you get on the high altitude model this is the one that is more of the luxury oriented version and all the four by e models will basically come with the full four doors the unlimited version basically and you're probably wondering if the battery takes up the cargo area well the jeep says you get about 27 cubic feet with the back seat up if you fold the second row seat. you get about 67 cubic feet, which is about a five cubic foot reduction compared to the gas-only version, so there's really little to no
compromise
if you want the 4 model for e now the exterior styling changes on the 4 so they're pretty minimal and that same story is true when you walk inside when i go in and close the door the door has the same kind of solid sound remember these doors are removable so you're not going to have that quiet bank vault or solid I don't know if you get into other vehicles, uh, here's the key fob for the 4x8, it hasn't changed.I wish the jeep would have done this kind of blue and outline to show you had a special model but the real magic. it happens when you turn on the wrangler 4 by e up because as you can see it just says ready under the tach to let you know this model is on no traditional electric or engine cranking noise here because remember it has a 17 kilowatt hour battery package and really the interior of this model i'm on the high altitude version because i wanted to show you some of the differences now first of all this is the more luxury oriented model i really like the seats on this car it really has them beautiful quilted leather look for the seats where you have this contrasting stitching this is the black interior with the orange stitching jeep also offers a light gray option if you want the rubicon version also offers a black or a tan the leather is around 1700 optional or extra is standard of course in the high altitude version and you can see they come pretty well equipped it has the 8.4 inch uconnect screen and also knows the stitching along the dash which is nice the steering wheel looks pretty good too I like the contrasting orange stitching it's a manual tilt and telescoping to the wheel and then the horn has the traditional horn sounds pretty good on I'm actually glad jeep never put some kind of meaningless horn on a vehicle like this now let's talk about the differences in the 4 by e in terms of the features now i mentioned the screen um it's the standard 8.4 inch screen here's a nice little e-hybrid mode if you touch that little e-hybrid button there you can see it'll show you some kind of power flow it'll show you your driving history upload schedule and then e-save that's the mode which allows you to switch between a battery saving or battery charging function when you are cycling between t The riding modes, the riding mode selector, are our three buttons here on the Left side of the steering wheel, it has electric hybrid and e-save, the car will automatically go into hybrid hybrid mode, it is where it will combine the gasoline and electric motor. motor and battery packs to give you the best possible range, there is an electric mode which of course will favor all electric use, although you'll see on the test drive later that it doesn't allow for a fully electric mode if you put your foot down every once the computer determines it's demanding full throttle it will automatically turn on the internal combustion engine which makes me a little sad that it does I wish the jeep would allow full electric even when my pedal my foot is all the way to the floor and then e-save as I mentioned earlier preserves the battery so you can use it at a later date there's also another button here that shows sort of a blue battery this is for maximum regeneration on this allows f or essentially one pedal drive when you lift the foot off the accelerator and don't touch the brake this vehicle will actually slow down quite a bit it's not full one pedal drive it won't come to a complete stop p But it's a It's a nice feature because it will recapture that kind of kinetic energy and put it back into the battery.
Now another option that I want to show you that I've never shown you before. This particular one here has a single touch. sky panel roof so it has the power retractable soft top and it's basically like a piano sunroof on the outside it has a full hard top but when I push this button you can see the top panel slide all the way out back and I really like this because removing the roof panels even though Jeep has made it much easier on this generation of Wrangler is a bit of a pain but when you have it like that you can see it goes all the way behind the second row while my cameraman is sitting. back there and showing you and it allows for a real open air experience i mean this is probably the best part it's a four thousand dollar option and i would say it's probably worth every penny now it means you can't completely remove the roof panels on this vehicle , you can remove the side panels in the rear but for four grand this convenience where I can just close it with the touch of a button or open it with the touch of a button is definitely worth it to me now because the four by e just They come in the Unlimited four-door version, they'll have a pretty useful rear seat area. the stickers just remind you that this is a high voltage battery meaning the battery lives in the cabin which also helps allow the jeep to control the temperature surrounding the battery even though the battery itself is already cooled for fluid now when i close the door and it comes back here it's pretty good in terms of space jeep says you get about 38 inches of leg room the battery doesn't really take up anything in terms of leg room just a little bit in terms of area of charging you've got your two usb ports here a real outlet two map pockets too and the door panel materials are pretty good too so overall i like how the jeep only offers it as a four door so if they're looking for two doors, they have to step down from the four for e because you can only get it with full size four doors, which is probably the way most of the est Americans will want it anyway now before we dive into the powertrain specs this is a plug-in hybrid wrangler so that's probably you I wonder how long it will take to charge and where the charging port is.
Now the jeep provided this nice cutaway here so we can go into more detail with the powertrain. Here is the gate of the cargo port. It's on the driver's side, obviously. in front of the vehicle that has the standard j1772 plug which means if they have a level two charger the jeep is installing a bunch of those on the trails it will take about two to two and a half hours to fully charge the battery pack from 17 kilowatt hours if you use the included level one charger jeep says it will take about 12 hours, so roughly overnight, which is probably what most owners will be able to get away with.
Technically, you don't need alevel two if you're going to have a plug-in hybrid. vehicle now talking about the powertrain as you can see on the front end we have the standard 2 liter direct injection turbocharged 4 cylinder this is essentially a carry over engine you will find in the standard e-torque wrangler the numbers are the same jeep says they make 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque it even has the electric start motor generator here that gives about 44 horsepower this replaces the starter and alternator and is the same e-torque system now the difference of course with t The plug-in hybrid version if you follow me around still uses an eight speed automatic transmission however between the transmission and the powertrain here you will have to find an engine electric that delivers about 134 horsepower, this is what is unique, of course.
To the plug-in hybrid version, it essentially also replaces the torque converter that's in the standard eight-speed automatic, but for those who don't like cvts, you'll be very happy to see that there's a standard eight-speed automatic here. . combine the output when taking into account the electric motor and the gas engine makes 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque jeep says that the electric motor can deliver about 181 pound-feet of torque on its own and this vehicle has the ability to drive on electric power alone for around 21 miles jeep had originally claimed it would be around 25 but the final EPA figures were a little less now here is the electric cabin heater so for those of you who live in a cold area s and are wondering if you can heat this car without the gas engine here is what will actually provide heat inside the cabin without having to turn on the gas engine to provide the heat and then if you follow me to this area here the jeep calls it the super module this is where all the electronics are housed and they are actually encased in a casing and have a board Tough protective underlay so again off-road capability is preserved and you don't have to worry about those things getting damaged when you're on the trail and then here of course is the 17 kilowatt hour battery pack.
The jeep says it's lithium. The ion battery pack prefers temperatures that humans prefer, so around 60 to 80 to 90 degree temp, the battery is actually inside the cabin under the rear seat, it's liquid cooled, it has throttle control temperature so the battery pack is designed to run more in the ideal temperature range but jeep says this battery pack will provide up to 21 miles of range actual usable capacity usable capacity is actually quite a bit less to preserve battery longevity in terms of green gas fuel. nomy the 4 by e will get about 20 combined mpg if you combine the electric motor and the gas engine the EPA says it will do about 49 mpge now the beauty of the 4 by e is that you don't actually have to do no
compromise
because this car will still tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds and 0-60 times around the six second range the big difference of course with this model with all this added stuff weighs about 800 pounds more than a wrangler normal so this one as is is about 5200lbs so i thought it was in austin texas but from the scenery it looks like the jeep has transported us back to jurassic park because we are here in a wrangler convertible, we're on our way to this. -Loop and let's see what the e electrified can do in these conditions now there's a little puddle of water here the jeep says this car is capable of going through 30 inches of water obviously this is more like three inches but always fun to go through for a little bit of water every time you're out on the road, another thing I forgot to mention earlier is, um, when you're sitting inside the car, there's a little LED status bar that shows how much charge is left in the vehicle when you have it plugged in each of the LED lights light up in sequence and fill up a bit more each time the battery gets more charged. The system on this Wrangler is exactly the same as the gas-only version. You still have the dana 44 sway bar disconnect functions. I mean I'm on low four right now and it's in all electric mode. I have about 33 of the battery left and they can slide here in full ev mode on low four that's the first time they've ever experienced anything like this and if they've always wanted a convertible convertible that's electric there hasn't been anything on the market until now this is the first one really alright so Unlike the previous puddle we're now going through a little I guess a creek right now but this is where the jeep will allow us to test the 30 inches of water forwarding capacity and this is probably something I've never done.
I know this is something I've never done is drive all electric through this current and this is pretty deep water you can hear it from outside and the rubicon model is the one you're going to want because this is the one that gives you almost 11 inches of ground clearance wow this is pretty deep I'm pretty impressed and the fact that it's quiet in here I hear nothing but water splashing this is pretty deep so now I'm supposed to go up this is a Little scary ok wow and the instant torque from the electric motor I barely touch the throttle and this thing just rolls along but yeah just like the regular Wrangler the 4 BY E does any kind of shutdown. road trail feels and looks very easy but that is so something i would hesitate to take my own vehicle through that sure is scary but the all electric torque makes it so easy i barely have to touch the throttle this it's so weird there's no rudeness at all that's crazy yeah it's so quiet in here too i want to say this is the future of offroad right here and let jeep be the first to do it no it just scraped the wheel real bad it sounded like something yeah it scraped the wheel real bad on it you can see the rock where it scraped oh this will be a good shot for this upper chamber oh they said we'd listen to it god this will just look at all you can see you can see where, yeah, you can literally look where it's scraped, that was good, okay, that wasn't so bad, it looks like I could see his hands forward, turn the driver, oh my gosh, stack it up, turn it up, okay, stop there, press the locker button only once it will log out to. your forehead will blink at you but it will or will take care of itself If as you go it's alright you're going up oh let me go up alright thank god for the skid plates.
It's really what's really cool is that it's quiet. That's just the skid plates. That's what they're designed for. this is way steeper than it looks oh my gosh this is scary the camera is about to fall off my lap ok its like a roller coaster right now ok wow thats a 27 28 29 degree angle right there oh she's wow that was scary that was scary ok ok ok and we're still on all electric right now how much did you regenerate? No, probably nothing, but that was scary, like my foot wasn't. I don't know if I was confident that I would actually use the brake.
I thought, oh yeah yeah, look at Rex behind us. You have to flourish. That's great, okay. you knocked it down and then you did though it didn't kick the gas engine or act up Usually that was just like literally a little bit of acceleration which wasn't much if you go over 50. I figured it will start the engine but when we're Ready to go, I'll make you go go ahead and actually pull up the locker switch for me that will connect the front and back ok um just helps a little bit pulling this up this can get a little slippery a little slippery um there's nothing to what to worry about if we slide around a bit we'll fix it and help you up okay I'm going to run out in front of you we'll pick you up and then Kevin will take care of that sounds great thanks you should do a little intro quick what? what you're supposed to do right now is ok so right now jeep wants me to climb this mountain with lots of rocks or ridges i'm about to do that i'm a bit terrified but i have spotters to help me so let's see how 4 by e works I have both lockers on now.
The stabilizer bar is disconnected. We are at low four l. Literally like a rock wall, yeah I literally see a rock wall in front of me and they want me to climb it. Alright, here we go, alright. engine started fine personally I would be less aggressive with throttle inputs so I'm trying to be a little less aggressive but it's very delicate ok great that's where it gets really perfect now oh gosh ok oh gosh let's put your front locker on oh gosh a couple drops oh little drops oh gosh going down a waterfall here oh gosh just the way you go just the way you go this is pretty steep i feel so good scared you're control mommy oh good now it's about to drop oh god oh god oh oh god im leaving the dslr now 35 inches or 35 degree tilt right now oh god oh my god this is so scary i need some new underwear i feel like i should go kiss the ground after this which was a pretty pretty twisted 35 degrees yeah wow is the camera ok i'm holding on to it oh well no well ok i caught him while he was shooting sorry adam we need a new camera everything is part of the job so from the car it never looks that hard or scary but as you're going to look we've got another journalist coming down this twisty hill and you'll see how steep and scary it actually was perfect he made it a little too easy it was 2nd or 3rd time coming down so it's not fair now with over 200k sales here in America the new jl wrangler is definitely one of the best wranglers the company has ever produced in fact between the model 4 By E and all other powertrains, Jeep offers a total of six different powertrain configurations for you to choose from.
So how is it possible for you to choose between all those different engines? Well, essentially I've driven them all except the 392. I'll be driving it in a couple of months when Jeep sends it to my house, the V8-powered Wrangler. It's obviously the one as the e One enthusiast calls me, however after spending the day driving the 4 by e plug-in hybrid model I'm really impressed and think this is probably the Wrangler you're going to want to get for a number of reasons obviously y'all. saw with the 0-16 acceleration performance around 6 seconds the 21 miles of all-electric range is very achievable and you, like you, also saw that the off-road capability of these models is not compromised now of course could you jeep having made the range a little better by giving us a little more rolling resistant tires plus aero improvements yes but i think they went the right way by keeping the off road capability and also preserving the looks because no one is going to want to drive a wrangler with active grill shutters and these puny little wheels with low rolling resistance tires just to get a couple one or two mile range from electric range now of course the big question y'all looking at the wrangler 4 by e is what this model is going to cost because wranglers are pretty expensive they start at just under 30k for a basic version though if you want the 4 b and e, they will have to pay at least forty eight. thousand dollars plus destination for the sahara trim if you want to go up to the rubicon version this one here starts at about fifty two thousand dollars which is a nine thousand dollar increase of course over the standard version to point out of course While the 4 by e models come pretty well equipped, they come with most of the optional features you have to add extra on the gas-only version, so if you comparably equip a gas-powered 4 by e version of the Wrangler, the price difference is actually longer. lines between two and four grand this engine is actually the same price as the diesel version actually maybe a little less and at that price plus the 7,500 federal tax credit makes the 4 by e really attractive especially if you qualify for the tax credit most people make essentially this model right here you're looking at the rubicon is around 62 000 this one right here is around 58 000 remember wranglers can get over 60 grand if they specify all the options but it does qualify for that tax credit again so in theory you could pay less for something like this and enjoy that electric only range so my recommendation if you're looking at a Wrangler and never considered one electrified version, be sure to put the 4x8 in it at the top of your list because it's an interesting car for many of you who commute less than 20 miles to and from work andIt also makes it a bit cheaper when you factor in those federal tax credits, but all that being said, I hope you guys have enjoyed my full overview of the
