bestof the romantic candlelight dinner. From the popular caldera towns to the inland villages, there is fresh seafood and traditional Greek cuisine mixed with other Mediterranean flavours, excellent wines and innovative cocktails. Before we start showcasing our favourites, know that all of the

The Athenian House in Imerovigli is elegant and romantic, with some of the best caldera and sunset views of any restaurant in Santorini. Run by renowned Greek chefs, you can expect a fabulous dining experience and one of the largest collections of Santorini wines. The small indoor dining room is decorated in ancient Athenian style, while outdoors is a large multi-level terrace with sweeping views. Be sure to book months in advance. Metaxi Mas is another fabulous option, led by 2 brothers for more than 20 years.
Tucked away from the crowds and off the beaten track in the hilltop village of Exo Gonia, you will be amazed by the stunning views of the ocean and surrounding villages. For the excellent quality of food here, prices are very reasonable, with plenty of seafood, meat, and vegetarian options available. It is an excellent place for a romantic or informal dinner. Some guests choose to dress up, but it's not formal by any means. It is recommended to book in advance, as there is almost always a queue. Selene is an elegant fine dining restaurant inside a beautiful old monastery in Fira.
The building now houses the Katikies Garden Hotel, the only 5-star hotel in Fira. In her 35th year, Selene was previously based in the hilltop village of Pyrgos, and her new home is now run by a Michelin-starred chef. The main dining room is outdoors in the beautiful courtyard with a fountain in the center, and an iron pergola houses the elegant bar. The menu, cooking classes and wine tastings promote the cuisines of Santorini and the Cyclades. Cava Alta is a fabulous gem of a restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine in the hilltop village of Pyrgos. Tucked away in a maze of alleyways, it is housed within a centuries-old Santorini winery and is run by a lovely young couple.
There's an indoor dining area and a cafeteria-style patio with tables out front, but it's the shady rooftop patio with panoramic sea views that's perfect for lunch or dinner. Yalos is a trendy and unique beachfront restaurant, located on the beautifully secluded beach of Exo Gialos. It's an idyllic spot about a 10 minute drive directly east of Fira. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The owner's grandfather used to park his boat in the cave that now houses the kitchen. His mother still cooks inside, preparing delicious typical Santorini dishes. There's an active bar with live DJs late into the night, and the restaurant is spread out on the sand with loungers and a variety of shady spaces to relax and spend the day.
Yalos hosts a variety of special live performances and is a great venue for weddings and event rentals. Ammoudi Fish Tavern is our favorite choice among the handful of excellent restaurants serving fresh seafood along the iconic Ammoudi Bay waterfront below Oia. There is a large terraced patio that stretches out over the water, as well as rows of raised seating patios that look out over the bay, all with incredible views. It is a perfect place for a romantic meal at any time of day, or to sip a cocktail while watching the popular and frequent caldera boat tours that run to and from the port.
Candouni in Oia is a lovely family restaurant tucked away at the back of Oia. Just off a narrow alleyway lined with charming boutiques and shops, this candlelit courtyard garden under bougainvillea-filled pergolas is exceptionally romantic. There are two intimate indoor dining rooms, just off the kitchen, and a quaint bar that is perfect for cocktails before a night out on the town or after-dinner drinks elsewhere, with live traditional Greek music on most. of the nights Panigyri Festival Food is located on a busy street in the center of Fira, with a beautiful courtyard garden and theme inspired by Greek festivals, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Cooked in a wood-fired oven, they offer new twists on traditional Greek dishes, with an impressive collection of various olive oils, combined to accompany each dish. There is modern decor and a lively bar with live music in the evenings. Argo is a popular multi-level restaurant on a busy street in Fira. Expect romantic patios filled with candlelit tables under hanging bougainvillea, in a festive atmosphere. There are better views of the caldera nearby, but the food here is excellent, with modern twists on traditional Greek and Santorinian dishes. Naoussa, is another great option, very central near the Fira Orthodox Cathedral, in the heart of the main pedestrian square.
The menu is very traditionally Greek, with occasional live music and crashing dishes more than occasionally. The views of the caldera and the sunset here are also fabulous. At the other end of the same square, there is another informal tavern, Ouzeri, also in the heart of Fira. You'll find traditional Greek meze plates, small portions meant for sharing, with great views towards the island's non-caldera coast. It is large and airy, with very reasonable prices and good food. Cacio e Pepe serves authentic Italian cuisine, the best in Santorini, in the heart of busy Fira. You'll find fresh handmade pizzas and fresh handmade pastas are the signature, with a great selection of Italian wines.
It's ideal for families and large groups, as well as romantic patio dining, and is also popular with locals. Roka, at the back of Oia, is tucked away on a quiet pedestrian street away from the main hustle and bustle of the town. To the front is a comfortable garden patio and rear porch dining area with west facing sunset views over the water, and a small children's play area. Inside there are two brightly painted interior dining rooms, with a wood burning stove that is active on cool evenings. Elinikon is a traditional cafe with authentic Greek meze and affordable prices, near the Oia windmills.
The ground floor and rooftop terrace here have some of the best sunset views of any restaurant in Oia, with incredible unobstructed views out over the ocean. Karma is another hidden courtyard restaurant in Oia, with a cozy plant-filled garden around a central fountain. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with many vegan and vegetarian options based on modern, healthy takes on traditional Greek island cuisine. Ambrosia is one of the most romantic and well-known fine dining restaurants, located just off the main pedestrian street in Oia. Outside there are 2 very small outdoor patios with fabulous caldera views. Inside, the intimate cave dining room is furnished with Greek antiques.
You will want to linger forever at their candlelit tables overlooking the volcano. Lotza in Oia has been open since 1982. With beautiful views of the caldera, there is a casual, relaxed atmosphere throughout the day, followed by a romantic setting in the evening at sunset. Offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it's a great place for a meal or cold drinks and desserts anytime. The baklava here is legendary. In Imerovigli, we love the Avocado restaurant. They offer extremely warm and welcoming service, with views of the sunset from across the street, if not the caldera. It's a great choice for lunch or dinner, with traditional Greek standards including seafood and meat dishes with plenty of vegetarian options.
And they recently opened a second restaurant, Dear Ellie, just a few doors away, with great cocktails and a rooftop patio where you can watch the sunrise and sunset. Anogi in the main square of Imerovigli behind the caldera is relatively new and very reasonably priced. You'll find the owners warm and generous, the atmosphere casual and modern, and the food excellent. There are also many fabulous hotel restaurants with stunning caldera views. Virtually all of the best hotels from Fira to Oia also have excellent restaurants, which tend to be on the fancier end of the spectrum.
