Tesla Model 3 vs Chevy Bolt - An opinion from someone who owns BOTH

Feb 27, 2020
you guys i have a video today answering some questions i get a lot. I've been on the forums for the Chevy Bolt and the Tesla Facebook and Twitter pages and whatnot and get asked a lot what the differences between the Chevy are.

bolt

and the Tesla Model 3 well I happen to have a Chevy

bolt

. I also have a Tesla Model 3 which you have probably already seen but in case you haven't, go ahead and its name is max Q. I am sitting in our 2017 Chevy bolt and I think I have a unique perspective on this car because I have had for over a year and i've also been driving a three hour red Model 3 we've had since january so i've driven these two cars for almost a year so i have a unique perspective i think about ownership of these cars here it is my

opinion

One of the biggest complaints I've seen on the forums and on Twitter is that the bolt seats are uncomfortable and I agree that they're not terribly uncomfortable just for traveling, you know around town or whatever, but on road trips or longer trips they aren't very comfortable for me that's a valid complaint and if you're smaller they might be more comfortable I'm five ten and around two hundred pounds and me. they are not very comfortable for longer trips when i just drive around town which is most probably ninety percent of what i did when i was driving the bolt all the time they were fun the seats were ok i didnt have a problem with just driving around the city you know twenty thirty miles even maybe an hour isn't a big deal but the longer rides will definitely get to you and there's not a lot of leeway on them to change because the seats are tight that's my take on the Bolts seats, one of the things I really like about the Bolt is the surround rear view camera or top camera view so when you go into reverse it gives you a top camera view where you can see and do is really easy like when you're backing into a spot or parking into a spot you can see the lines on the parking space so you can see if you're centered that's a real feature cool mind its one of probably my favorite thing about the deadbolt and i hope other car manufacturers implement this in the future here we are sitting in the

model

3 and i think the first thing you think of when you sit in the

model

3 is that you think of technology and I think when most people think of Tesla, they think of technology and I think that's a very accurate perception that they have because when my friends sit in this car, they look at the center screen and they're just amazed, they're just they are impressed and for good reason. a WOW factor when you see the screen and when I explain that you get wireless updates and how the car just keeps getting better and better over time and I explained in my red 89 pickup when I got it in 2017 it didn't have heated rear seats and then again all of a sudden a couple of Ns months later I did an upgrade and it has heated rear seats and then I explained to them how the braking has improved on these cars because they do an over the air upgrade and that's something that just connects people it knocks them off their feet complete and I think it's a huge advantage that Tesla has over GM and some of these other people is their technology and when I think about what I like best about the Tesla Model 3 compared to the bolt on, that's one of the first things I What I think is technology. and when you see the technology in the deadbolt and you see the technology in the model 3, it's clear that one time is much better than the other, but that's one of the things I like about the model 3.

I think the storage and the Chevy bolt are nice. Well you can fold the seats down basically like on the model three you can fold the seats forward and that gives you a bit of trunk space. so it's good that the opening is really big. it means for the size of the car it's really big whereas the model three has big trunk openings but it's not a hatchback so it's a little bit more limited in what you can fit in there what you can stack but there is definitely more cargo space if you fold the seats in the model three i think so it certainly looks that way but that is my

opinion

and you know in trunk space the model 3 also has a front trunk which the most people call it a front the bolt on

chevy

dont have it i have a front with the model three its not a huge front but its nice i can put my bag of racket balls in there you can put a tote bag in there and what i like the most like to use is when i go to pick up pizza i can put the pizza in the front so it doesn't smell like my car so that's a nice little feature i think the deadbolt gets lost.

More Interesting Facts About,

tesla model 3 vs chevy bolt an opinion from someone who owns both...

We have taken this bolt on a few different trips, we actually took the bolt for pickup. Upstairs when we picked up VIN 89 the model 3 that was 89 when we went to Morgan Hi To pick that up we drove the bolt up there and that was no fun. When we got up there, I took the whole family, basically it was two kids and two adults and when we got there, I had to carry. In fact, I got paid. for charging on the way which wasn't too bad I stopped and was able to find an Annie Vigo station in charge but when we got there I needed to charge to get back and everywhere I found the plug we shared two different stations I went to

both

of them I sent them a Nissan Leaf I had no idea how long they were going to be there they were

both

in strip malls and I had a bit of range anxiety for the first time in the bolt I couldn't figure out where I wanted to charge with the supercharger network that Tesla has that's not a problem and it's faster for me that's the biggest advantage right now that Tesla has over anyone is the supercharger network so let's talk mobile apps GM has their mobile app and then Tesla has their mobile app and you can look at both apps and you can tell which one is a tech company the Tesla app is much slicker it looks more polished the bolt app works the most Some of the time I had some errors where it didn't work I want to connect to the I didn't want to connect to the car but I'll put a couple screenshots of the Bolt app here and then I'll put a couple screenshots of the Tesla mobile app here and that way I'll be scrolling through the different screens of the app and not what you can see the difference between the two and you can tell just by the way it looks, one looks much more refined and you know it looks like a newer app. it just looks more looks outdated it works my 18 year old son used our bolt for quite some time and it was nice to be able to look and see in the bolt app that it has this section called hard accelerations and it was fun because I could monitor how fast he was driving or how far fast I was accelerating and I could ask in more hey it looks like you were like you had ten strong accelerations today what was that and I was just kidding about it?
tesla model 3 vs chevy bolt an opinion from someone who owns both
It's a good driver so I'm just kidding, but it's a cool little feature on top of that. app, but when you look at both apps together, Tesla is much nicer, much more refined. It never crashed. I've never had a problem connecting it, so if I had to choose between the mobile apps, I certainly would. Choose the Tesla mobile app instead of the Bolt app. One of the things I've always liked about the Bolt is how it feels compared to the model. You sit in and it's more of a sports sedan type of feel whereas the Bolt you sit in you can see very well even with the screen in front or behind the wheel you can still see very well in front of you the view is great in this car and you know not i have nothing bad to say about it the view has been great its one of the things i liked when we first got it another thing i would pick on the Tesla Model 3 over the deadbolt is the horn.
tesla model 3 vs chevy bolt an opinion from someone who owns both
Just kidding. I care less about the horn. One thing I liked about the model 3 over the Chevy bolt is the ability to have a wireless charging pad in the car, as far as I know there is no option for that for the bolt and while it doesn't come standard on the model 3 , what comes standard is a pad that you put your phone on and you can plug your phone in but as an aftermarket option you can buy what I use is a nomad wireless charging pad and it's very simple to plug in just put it on instead of the pad and you plug it into the usb ports that are in the center console and you just put your phone on the pad and it charges wirelessly now you must have a phone that can do qi wireless charging but its a great option and i love that ability to be able to charge my phone wirelessly they don't have to plug in and it's one of the things i like about the model 3 over the stud would it? and a Chevy bolt or would I buy a model three that's a tough question because it depends on what kind of deal you can get for a Chevy bolt when we got this Chevy bolt it was a steamy deal we paid $200 a little over $200 a month for this car and I don't think they're going for that now but I felt like it was a steal and we couldn't let it go so at the time we didn't have any Tesla's we just had a Fiat 500e and this was our second evie so it was a great deal from Lease When we got it, we didn't want to buy it because I knew there were other Vs coming out in the near future and I wanted to see what else would come out and I didn't want to have to commit to buying it.
I wasn't sure what kind of value they were going to be etc so that's why we rented it it was a great deal and now that the mid range model 3 is out of the standard range it will probably be out I would say Six months from now depending on Ilan's timing but with a Chevy Volt I've seen where they're not, it's not like that. it looks like they are offering them for the price i am buying them or have it so i think if i were right now i would probably buy one if my budget was in that range i would probably buy a model three midrange and with the tax credits And all of that, you're getting a more range car with more features with the glass roof, you're getting a network of superchargers, so there's a lot you're going to get. that you're misunderstanding with the screw and I think it's I think it's just a nicer car and cost wise I don't think you're much different but that's just my opinion this has been a fun video to do I thank you for watching.
