Tesla Model 3 vs Chevy Bolt - An opinion from someone who owns BOTH

Feb 27, 2020
What's up, guys? Today I received a video answering some questions I frequently receive. I've been on the forums on the Facebook and Twitter pages for Chevy Bolt and Tesla and all that, and I get a lot of questions about what the differences are between Chevy. Bolt and the Tesla Model 3. Well, I happen to have a Chevy Bolt. I also have a Tesla Model 3 that you've probably already seen, but in case you haven't, go and his name is Max Q. I'm sitting in our 2017 Chevy Bolt and I think I have a unique perspective on this car because I have it. for over a year now and I've also been driving a three-hour red Model 3 that we've had since January.

So I've driven

both

cars for almost a year, so I have a unique perspective. I think on the ownership of these cars, here is my

opinion

. One of the biggest complaints I've seen on the forums and on Twitter is that the

bolt

-on seats are uncomfortable and I agree that they're not terribly uncomfortable just for traveling, you know, around town or all that, but on trips Road or longer trips are not very comfortable for me, that is a valid complaint and if you are smaller. They could be more comfortable. I'm five foot seven and about two hundred pounds and for me they're not very comfortable for longer trips when I'm driving around town, which is probably ninety percent of what I did when I was driving the

bolt

all the time they were fun the seats were fine I didn't have any problems with just driving around town you know twenty thirty miles even maybe an hour isn't a big deal but on longer trips they'll definitely catch up with you and there's not a lot of wiggle room in them to move around because the seats are tight, That's my

opinion

on bolt-on seats.

One of the things that I really like about the Bolts is the surround rear view camera or the top view camera, so when you reverse, you get a camera view from above where you can see and it makes it really easy, like when you're backing up or parking in a spot you can see the lines in the parking space so you can see if we're focused on it's a really cool feature, it's probably my favorite thing about the bolt and I hope other car manufacturers implement this in the future. Here we are sitting in the Model 3 and I think the first thing you think of.

When you sit in the Model 3 you think about technology and I think when most people think about Tesla, they think about technology and I think that's a very accurate perception that they have because when my friends sit in this car they look at the center screen and they just say wow, they're just impressed and for good reason it's a wow factor when you see the screen and when I explain to them that you get over-the-air updates and how the car just keeps getting better and better over time and I explained to them in my car 89 red van when I bought it in 2017 it didn't have heated rear seats and all of a sudden a couple months later I did an upgrade and it has heated rear seats and then I explained how the braking has improved on these cars because they do an upgrade wireless and that's something that just connects people, it completely blows them away and I think that's a huge advantage that Tesla has over GM and some of these other people are their technology and when I think about what I like most about the Tesla Model 3 versus the bolt, that's one of the first things I think about is the technology and when you see the technology in the bolt and you see the technology in the

model

3, it's clear that one time it was much better than the other, but that's one of the things I like best about the

model

3.

I think the storage and the Chevy bolt are pretty good, you can fold the seats down basically just like the model three, you can fold the seats forward and that gives you plenty of room in the trunk, if you open it, you know, open the tailgate, put the seats in. I've installed stuff on this little car, so it's nice, the opening is really big. That means for the size of the car it's really big, whereas on model three the boot openings are big, but it's not a hatchback so you're a little more limited in terms of what fits in there and what It can be stacked, but there is definitely more transport space if you fold the seats in model three.
I think so, it certainly looks like that, but that's my opinion and I know that in the trunk space, the model three also has a front trunk that most people call the front, the Chevy bolt doesn't. It has a front with the model three, it is not a huge front, but it is nice. I can put my racquet bag in there, you can put a tote bag in there and my favorite thing to use it for is when I go out to buy pizza. I can put the pizza in the front so it doesn't smell my car, so that's a nice little feature that I think the bolt overlooks.
We have taken this bolt on a few different trips, in fact we took the bolt to pick it up. when we picked up the VIN 89, the model 3, which was 89, when we went to Morgan Hill to pick it up, we drove the bolt up there and that was not fun when we got there, I took the whole family, it was basically two kids. and two adults and when we got there I had to carry, in fact, I carried I had to carry on the way, which wasn't that bad. I stopped and was able to find an Annie Vigo station in charge, but when we got up there I needed to charge to get back and everywhere I found the outlet I shared two different charging stations.
I went to

both

and they sent them a Nissan Leaf. I had no idea how long they were going to be there, I was in both. They were in malls and I had a little range anxiety for the first time on the bolt. I couldn't figure out where I wanted to charge with the supercharger network that Tesla has, that's not a problem and it's faster. To me, that's the biggest advantage right now that Tesla has over anyone is the supercharger network, so let's talk mobile apps. GM has their mobile app and then Tesla has their mobile app and you can look at both apps and know which one is a technology. company, the Tesla app is much slicker, looks more refined, the Bolt app works most of the time.
I had a few errors where it didn't want to connect to the car, but it didn't want to connect. I'll put a couple screenshots of the Bolt app here and then I'll put a couple screenshots of the Tesla mobile app here and that way I'll just scroll through the different screens of the app and not what you can. look at the difference between the two and you'll know just by looking at it, one looks much more refined and you know it looks newer, the Bolt app just looks more, it looks outdated, it works, my 18 year old son used our Bolt to quite a while and it was nice to be able to look and see in the Bolt app that it has this section called hard accelerations and it was fun because you could monitor how fast you were driving or how fast you were accelerating and I could ask more, hey, what did you look like?
You had ten hard accelerations today, what was that about? And joke about it. It's a good driver, so I'm just kidding, but it's a nice little feature. about that app, but when you look at both apps as a whole, Tesla is much nicer and more refined. I have never had any failures. I've never had problems with the connection, so if I had to choose between mobile apps, I would definitely choose the Tesla mobile app over the Bolt app. One of the things I've always liked about the Bolt is how you sit compared to the model you sit through and it's more of a sports sedan type feel, whereas the If you sit down you can see very well even with the screen in front or behind the steering wheel.
You can still see very well in front of you. The view is great in this car and you know I have nothing bad to do. What I can say about the view is that it's been great, it's one of the things I liked when we first got it. Another thing I would choose on the Tesla Model 3 instead of the latch is the horn. I'm just kidding. I don't care at all. One thing I liked about the model 3 over the Chevy bolt is the ability to have a wireless charging pad in the car, as far as I know there is no option for that for the bolt and although it doesn't come standard on the model 3 What comes standard is a pad that you put your phone on and you can plug it in, but as an aftermarket option you can buy what I use is a nomadic wireless charging pad and it's very simple to plug in, just replace it. the pad and you plug it into the USB ports that are on the center console and you just place your phone on the pad and it charges wirelessly.
Now you have to have a phone that can do qi wireless charging, but it's a great option and I love that ability to be able to charge my phone wirelessly, they don't have to plug it in and it's one of the things I like about the model 3 over the bolt, would I buy a Chevy bolt or would I buy a model three? That's a tough question because it depends on what kind of deal you can get on a Chevy bolt. When we bought this Chevy bolt, it was an incredible deal, we paid $200, a little over $200 a month for this car and I don't think they'll do it.
We're going for it now but I felt like it was a bargain and we couldn't pass it up so at the time we didn't have any Teslas we just had a Fiat 500e and this was our second evie so it was a great lease when we got it no We wanted to buy it because I knew there were other Vs coming out in the near future and I wanted to see what else came out and I didn't want to have to commit to buying. I wasn't sure what kind of value they were going to be and so on, so that's why we rented it, it was a great deal, but now that the mid-range model 3 is out of the standard range it will probably be I would say six months from now, depending on Ilan's timing, but with a Chevy Volt I've seen where there aren't any, it doesn't look like they're offering them for the price I'm buying them for or that.
I bought it, so I think if it were now I would probably buy a mid-range model three and with the tax credits and everything you're getting. car with more range with more features with the glass roof you get a supercharger network so there's a lot of things you get that you don't get with the bolt on and I think it's just a nicer car and As for the cost I don't think They are going to be very different, but that's just my opinion, this was a fun video.
