Tank sprayed with spray cans (full)

Jun 07, 2021
Before sanding, it is always a good idea to use a wax and grease remover. I initially prefer a solvent-based wax and grease remover or a prep saw and we'll use a lint-free cloth here to help apply it like that. I'm also wearing gloves, it's very important to use that safety here and we're cleaning the

tank

just to remove any oil residue, grease, especially like I said with the fuel

tank

, so much so that it just comes off here and that's basically what we want to do. to have a clean tank so we are not standing still when we start sending oils and grease to the surface, as you can see I have now removed the worst of the oil and grease.

I'm just going to do a quick review with the wax and grease remover. Do this again with a clean cloth in a generous amount. What you do is wipe it over the surface while it's still wet, take a clean cloth, and wipe it off. All that does is raise all the oils to the surface, then you can wipe with a new cloth and just continue around your neck, wipe everything generously with a clean, dry cloth, wipe away any excess residue now that it's all clean. We have two options to make: If we're going to ship this tank with wet and dry paper or with dry to dry paper, you're looking at 240 grit, everything wet and dry, we're looking at around 400 grit if using the wet I'm going to use wet and dry today, I get myself pond water with soap, which is basically water with a drop or two of liquid detergent, put it on your pad and sand it until it's completely flat without any shiny parts.

It's pretty hard to see in a picture, but I hope I can take a still photo in a second and show you that there is a difference between here and this. This is a very flat finish. This one here is like an up and down. you want to make sure your tank has all of this finish. There is a very flat and smooth finish here. None of these shiny and dull parts can almost be distinguished with this particular color because of the distinct difference where light reflects off a flat finish versus a glossy finish we're just going to stain with etching primer, a little light coat, a little coat just on the bare metal, wait about five minutes, come in, apply a second coat and then we're ready to go, so we've If it takes us 20 minutes to get a Qing primer, we're going to put the primer on the areas that show first .

You see the etching primer in darker gray and some of the existing primer putty underneath, which is in orange, so we're just going to put primer over the areas around the tank, okay, wait five minutes, wait five minutes and then We'll go back and put another layer on before continuing. One thing I didn't cover is safety where I didn't use a glove. the last illustration, but it's always a good idea to wear gloves, it's always a good idea to wear a half mask, but if I did you wouldn't be able to hear me talk so we're hoping to make sure you always wear that and hope

When you see me, I'll have one when I'm doing this. Okay, we finished that one. Now we're going to put an even layer over the entire tank like I demonstrated before with the front guard so they can come in and pick a spot. come and get a nice consistent shine in the can the primer will dry to a flat finish once it's dry you want to make sure it stays nice and shiny out of the can and don't

spray

back here where it gets very rough , when you're done, I'll continue on the other side, you wait your 5 minutes and you want to do it about 4 times.
Ok, we let this tank dry for a couple of hours, now it's time to prepare the sand. I would like to send the primer dry with about 400 grit dry 600 grit dry I don't like using wet and dry at 800 grit would be the equivalent because I find the primer is quite porous and can absorb water and I don't like that so sending it dry is good when you're sanding it, sometimes you can't see the ups and downs of the hardwood how good the surfaces are, so I like to use a flat black and I'll use that as a guide coat if you want.
I have dust like dry code dust that works very well and is quiet, almost to the point that you can't see it from a distance. Very light. I'm

spray

ing it from quite a distance, that's as much as you want to put it in it's a very light amount. I may have put on a little more than I normally would. No, it doesn't look that bad. Then I'll send it from there. Hope

y in the next video you'll be able to see me. working, so if we're here right now, this hasn't been any guide that you put in when you send it, it has a very smooth finish when you sand it, you might think, oh wow, it feels smooth, it looks good. and I'm ready to paint, but if you paint sometimes you can do it, you won't actually be able to see the imperfections until you put the paint on, that's why we use the guide coat like in the previous illustration, so when we finally sand it I found it slightly, you can feel it soft and even look soft because the black is still there.
I know it hasn't been sanded properly so I'm just going to keep sanding with my dry paper like I said, keep sanding one area and you can start to see. in this middle section here it's okay to go back to the gray primer, while on all these edges here there's a lot more sanding to do, so I want to keep sanding until the tank is like this and no orange peel or anything else. than that standard on most of the tank area here, but on Thursday I had a couple rocks down to bare metal, okay. I will have to detect every priming that is reprimed above that, they should not wait. that to dry do your four coats or whatever you think is necessary, send it back if you need to use your guide code again, that's good before you continue putting on the light color.
Okay, I'm adding an extra step here. I don't have to do this. I'm doing it just for coverage reasons for my color. I have a pretty dark color and I have quite a bit of foundation, so I'm going to apply what's called a valley tone which is like a darker color and I've mixed it before, so in this shoot, if you decide to skip this step, that's fine, but you can certainly use what's called a sticky cloth, so once you've cleaned it. with a lint-free cloth and no prep soil like I said, but if necessary, the water-based prep sole would be a better option instead of a solvent-based one, we apply it lightly over the entire surface just to remove any filament, any dust or anything that gets in the way, then we are ready to set our value tone.
It's very, you'll see it goes very smooth, make it nice and even very simple how you're going to spray. the color, hopefully you can see how I spray this, this is how I'm going to do the color that you normally apply with two less coats, so we'll use the color combination that we just want. to go with a darker corner of the base color and the stripe has a lighter champagne color in the blend against the tank like this, so let's do this, stick it on a spray can, we can go from there, okay? We are ready for the next step.
These lint-free cloths are very useful if you need to clean the surface. This is paint, of course, it's dry, so make sure it's dry before you try to do more using the tack cloth again just a little. whiteboard and wipe off, sorry, any expert filament we're spraying outside tonight, so hopefully we'll end up with some mess anyway in hopes of minimizing that little light cleaning on where you put our color to our color to choose where you are going to start and finish and often just doing a rehearsal and how you are going to work, is a good way to start, we will stop at the back and move forward trying the color always on a small separate piece, whether it be a piece of metal or something similar, so you can familiarize yourself with how paint is normally

sprayed

.
You have to wear gloves and here I have overalls, just minimal dust and all the other contaminants. that you should wear face masks too, but we are a bit limited on this. I can enter? I put in a lot and then we will reduce. We are dealing with a metallic color, another solvent color. It is very uniform to go over everything. just be aware that if you are using spray you can see on my fingers a little bit over the top, sometimes the paint builds up there and sprays a little spot so it's always worth checking that you are spraying and sometimes having a little bit of cloth just to wipe your finger if necessary so we apply the first layer wait about five minutes this kind of weather right now is very hot so it goes by very quickly and I think I'm actually ready to my second quote even though it's less than five minutes but I'll wait a little longer between my second and third code if I need to make sure they get all the edges.
I like to do the edges first before coming to get my color. Nice even coats, sometimes spraying at an angle like a 45 also helps avoid things like tram happy you move on to the next okay so we've let it all sort itself out giving it a try now if we're dealing with the system basic alert. here, in case you were interested, we let the card dry for about an hour or two and then we just put in our fine line. I didn't use anything, we'll use six thousand on this one, so a six thousand phone line. and now ready to mask, it often helps when you're doing masking, especially when you're doing stripes and things like this is getting a second set of coats and it's not always easy to be able to do fine lines because you don't really want to. to get too much masking table, do you want to listen?
If you do, we will use a water-based wax and grease remover, so we usually line it up a bit. So just use your masking paper, gradually work your way down making sure that when you finally have all the paper, it will be secured in place, make sure that the fine line and all the little corners, make sure you press down on the fine line to get all the corners, you don't want the paint to drag too much underneath. In fact, many people will apply a clear coat before doing the fine line and let it dry once it's cured, they can put the fine line on because that way you can always wipe off the excess spray paint with a little wax and grease remover. now it's all masked off, just a little bit of tape back over our surface, making sure all of the tape is securely pinned in the corners, especially if you know we're ready for a color, always test your color and make sure it be ready. the right color we're trying to spray is fake, little mole, we don't want to put too much gold in here, we want to make sure the color is right too, wait a couple of minutes, just watch how much paint you paint. above the edge because you don't want to create a big lie, it's okay to remove the tape now.
I like to remove the tape when it's a little damp rather than curing it if it has too much build up and to cure it you can sometimes peel it off. paint and then you have to sort out the retouching, so it's a very dangerous process to unmask, so you also have to know how you masked. It's always a good logical way, but now we can carefully unmask your tape by making sure that you're pulling it out at a 45 degree angle, whether it's this way, see how to pull it this way, not rip it up like this.
I'm moving it away from the surface area so it doesn't actually damage the paint, just do it very slowly, very carefully, some people like to run it over the paint, but there we have it, okay, so dry, that's it ready to use. You will use a water-based wax and grease remover. I don't want to use a solvent-based solvent, especially when I've already done it. lines because it can actually eat up the paint, so I'm going to wipe it lightly because we handle it when we get the fine lines, never let your cleaning cloth get rid of me.
Hi Philippe, boy, a little bit of eros when you're alone. about the Tec paint, what is that, I'm ready, we're using a special 2-pack of clear urethane. I'll wear a mask and anything else that's especially special. Your thing, first I'll put on a light coat from Little Miss and then. We come in what I like to do, sometimes I put equivalent, so for example, if I spray a wet coat like this, I would always spray something similar that I like near the area where the hope comment is and I can check that right now you sweat.
I won't be able to see this of course, maybe I can use some. You could use this plastic thing instead of a wet fire blanket. I just check to make sure until it's sticky like duct tape and it's still pretty wet at the moment, but you'll see maybe you can hear that now, that's the kind of thing you want to get tacky before you put on the next coat, put a little light coat first, I told you before, make sure you just run the nozzle every now and then check my pretty little products ready for my next coat with my glossy coat maybe avoid the pictures first, you should be able to see it.
Even you can't see it at an angle where it looks very soft and very bright. I want to make sure it's even different than the color you mix the color into. Make sure it isnice and even if you come behind me you might be able to see him because he is praying outside you get some annoying little bugs like the hat unfortunately I will select him on the second one you will be very careful unfortunately we didn't get the video applying the last two coats of transparent. What we did was apply four full coats of clear, allowing five to ten minutes to remove between each coat, so I got about five coats of clear, this is the final result, I hope you enjoyed the video, but if you want a process more detailed step by step, check out our blog link below and hopefully that will make a little more sense.
Otherwise, thanks for watching.
