The spinal cord is located within the vertebral foramen, a space formed by the vertebral arch and the vertebral body. The C7 spinal nerve branches from the spinal cord and exits on each side through the intervertebral foramen. It usually receives sensory input from the skin on parts of the shoulders, the backs of the arms, and the middle finger. The C7 nerve also has a motor component that sends signals to various muscles, such as the triceps and wrist flexors.
