cappadociaconfession i called her
cappadociamost of my life you know how it is even though you rent a dress a car and a photographer for an hour you jump in a hot air balloon and call yourself a world traveler listen i suffer from a condition i've had it all my life if everyone does something i just have to do something else i travel to find authenticity in this world to find myself in a moment that is unique to me in the search for this i have never owned a house and since there are tens of thousands of houses Abandoned
cavehere, I thought the market might be cheap, but I needed to find the perfect one that wasn't part of a heritage site, one that hadn't been renovated into a luxury
cavehotel, and one where I wouldn't see another tourist. , one i could call my own for only 24 hours and then i found it let's pick up the story by leaving each other ok team let's go on an adventure stay wow this is a
castlei don't know.
I don't know why I'm silent. I don't think there's anyone inside. Don't think about it, you can see how it was carved like a pickaxe, every one of those scratches, the creaking of a pickaxe, these caves have a great history, as you saw, this is a dead end and they are full of secrets and all these that you see on the side shelves that people carved on and these especially these are really cool here what do you think this is? they are like little hollow tunnels look my hand goes through them they are everywhere all this in this area were the stables where the former residents kept their cattle all these holes were carved here so they could tie up their animals for the night this area of the The world was famous for its horses so much so that cappadocia literally translates to horse land it seems like there are three different floors let's continue the adventure up I don't know sometimes on these adventures I feel like a little kid and I definitely feel that way right now look at this giant stone arch cappado cia over there these hills are full of swiss cheese with these tunnels and i wish i knew more about what happened in some of these places this is like a mansion i don't think i'll ever have a mansion i like to travel too much this is probably the best i'm going to get but heck i'll take it look at all these carvings by a man or woman thousands of years ago years, living in a cave in the past would have really sucked and when i mean shit.
I mean shit because you're here with your wildlife. They are shitting everywhere. Your cattle. You're shitting in some hole in the corner. It's going to be dark. cave in here so we're looking at the valley and yeah holy look at this a crack fell right there boom oh no that's a bathroom right? What do you think? Let me know in the comments. My guess is that people have been living here and carving houses since the Bronze Age between 3000 and 1200 BC. C. in 400 a. c. xenophon of athens the greek military leader philosopher and historian said their houses were underground this is not a greek accent it just sounded funny when i said it in my normal voice it's a date bear with me houses with a mouth like a well but Underneath they spread out wide entrances were dug for the herd animals but people went down stairs in the houses there were goats sheep cattle birds and their kids or something so this place has been a wonder of the world since before cheese rice and exploring around here you will see much more than houses, there are underground cities that housed up to 20,000 people and many monasteries and Christian churches from a very distant era from the front or further it seems that there are three levels we saw the bottom is where I think they kept the cattle this is definitely where they live you can see these old fire pits actually its really am amazed you see this you still see the ash or soot from the fires of l past they'd have fires in these holes I think to keep the wind from blowing them away there's a super sketchy road over there look at that tread we'll just be careful, ah, it's a way back down.
The thing about these houses and fortresses is that they had their entrances hidden for the most part. I don't think this one specifically was used as a fortress, but some of them were and have hidden entrances, usually you don't want to leave your front door open, I mean if you live in a cave I guess you can't lock it with key but usually you want to hide the front door so maybe if we explore a bit we can find our way to the top maybe we'll keep looking for a not too bad climb compared to some of the others i found a good camp spot how is that for a view i have to show you something look at this right here this is called hard and it's anything but it's so brittle millions of years a few years ago volcanoes rained hell out of the sky and basically that compressed ash i don't know how many hundreds of meters of ash fell in this area but now it has been reduced to this stone and that is why it is so easy to carve you have to be careful when you explore these places because they are always falling off because what looks like literally just styrofoam people we're living in a styrofoam
castlebut damn it's cool geology in general is really cool up to a point when you know too much about geology and then quickly and exponentially it becomes less cool, but if you know a lot or a little, you just understand that this is ash, it's pretty amazing, isn't it cool? oh look at that that makes me happy it's going to be nice tonight especially after the sunsets ok night is falling time to eat we have a nice piece of steak cut into shish kebabs i got some sticks also some aluminum foil and inside that aluminum foil we have some potatoes, the potatoes may take a while, but we have time, right?
Looks good but it's also really dark let me grab the tent light and I'll give you a bit of a rundown not that big of a deal but I dropped a whole shish kebab on the ground and it's covered in rocks oh the dirt never hurt nobody, right? We're so scared of dirt we think it's like poison now the dirt is rock fine though you know it might get crunchy but that's ok it looks really good another cool thing is I could use the back of my knife and carve chops out of these stones so I can make little rotating groups of shish kebabs that I don't know what they're called we'll call them that so I can spin them right on the spot without fear of them spinning and falling into the fire.
Great ok dinner maybe about 20 minutes I think look look look look look they are ready I have the moon in the back fire in the front something delicious delicious shish kebabs right in the middle suit dessert this is rocky the turkish fire water the poison the local poison the extra people will be a lot like maybe i eat uzo from greece or like zambuca it has that anise flavor black licorice i pour some in my the flask it's done that's it but that's next , look at him, what do you think I have some arts and crafts, that you want to learn how to make a torch, it's easy, I'll show you this is what you need to make a number one torch. a wooden dowel or number two stick you need a piece of cloth usually cotton this is an old towel a bottle of bitter lemon it is actually kerosene and always mark your kerosene x x x everywhere because someone might have thirsty maybe you and your drunk or maybe one of your friends says oh i want some sour lemon they will be sour and might be dead some wires and also some tweezers ok so first thing you do is take your towel and just stab it like this take our broken end of the d owel like this just wrap it as tight as we can we're going to make a wad at the end so try to stretch and pull it tight tight tight , tight, we're going to take one end like this, wrap it up. around as tight as we can with our hands, but our hands aren't strong enough, so we're going to take the pliers, twist that over and over again good and squeeze and then wrap, go ahead and squeeze, just twist that thing and there come on let it be light it's ok kids don't play with fire unless you know what you're doing especially things like kerosene an expert taught me I know how to do it safely let's wander these old rock walls. it's humiliating thousands of years of humans were born here and died here 50 generations 50 lifetimes like mine so much has happened here it makes me feel like there must be something left behind in these walls is it all just empty stone now or is it there? some kind of presence still here some part of humanity that we can't put a finger on I'm never quite sure let me know what you think in the comments and right now is when you would expect this adventure to go sideways, based on previous experience, Everything was going well this time until I saw someone. oh my gosh guys I had the scare of my life.
I'm taking these really nice long exposure shots at the campground and I look down and there's a man standing right by the entrance. It's me, he's my uh, he's my shadow. gosh anyway back to being deep i come to these places to prove a point i guess you don't always have to follow what's in the brochure you really don't have to the world is open it's friendly and the people think they come here and they will be mugged or they won't understand the language or they won't be able to move, but I mean many of the same services like airbnb and all this work in countries like this you can also book flights and on expedia none of these companies pay me, I guess the point is just that you can come here and stay in a fancy cave hotel.
I don't know, I like it a lot more. You can create your own adventures. that makes me feel more alive and that's not the point of feeling alive thought i was cold alone all night this tripod spent five hours down here doing a star lapse i'm always happy to see it's still there in the morning no one will it took there are still trees down there let's see if we can get firewood ah balloons i didn't think we could see them from here okay vegas can't choose okay okay the balloon show is over and so is my coffee if you want to know exactly where this camp is, i have a map where i have pinned all the locations of the places.
