Simple but Important: How to Draw Your Bow

May 30, 2021
Oh yeah, what's up guys, count them accurately from the inside out? Today we are going to make a video, a fairly

simple

but

important

video, anyway, on the correct way to

draw

the bow. I see a lot of people go in and out of this. I shop every day and I see a lot of really original ways that they

draw

their bow, whether it's for a hunt or a tournament, you know, believe it or not, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it, I think. A lot of people are leaning too much, they're lifting too much weight, it's kind of easier, they just know that they think they should be able to lift 70 pounds even though they've only been filming for three weeks and So today I'm going to really go over the best way to tighten the arc.

I'm not going to say it's the right way. I think this is the one that will prevent injury number one and use the least amount of movement in

your

entire body. body so for a hunting scenario you know you can't have much movement yeah but it's a very exaggerated draw and for a target scenario you know the faster I get my pin on the target the more time I'll have to aim If it takes a long time. It's time to put my pin on target, you know, I'm just wasting the best seconds of my career, so to start, I'm going to show you the ways that I see that are wrong, so the most common way that I see the people drawing is incorrect is the low elbow, so they come in and it's that move, so the problem with that is two big things, the main one is that a lot of times when I get the pot back, my pin is actually below what what I'm pointing to.

So if you've already started fighting against gravity, it's going to be very, very difficult to get that pin in the middle. I'm sure many of you have been shooting and

your

pin drops below that point and it feels like someone just holding a lead weight in your arm, imagine having to start two feet below the target and then reach up to it, so that's the first thing, the second thing is you saw how much movement there was, so if I have an animal coming in and I have to go draw my bow, there's no way they're going to let you get away with it unless you're in a place blind or up in a tree or something like that, if I'm just on the ground like when I'm elk hunting and I'm trying to get away with it, but it's not going to work, so that's the low elbow.

The second thing I see is the very high elbow, which looks more like this. People come in and do both now. I would prefer that if you are not going to do it correctly I would recommend you with the high elbow than the low one. The problem with the high elbow is that it really promotes injuries basically because when I come in like that and extend that shoulder up and forward when I shoot, you know these muscles are fully expanded and when I have to contract them like that, you know, if I'm not really warmed up, I will most likely pull a muscle doing that, so what I do I want you to practice and you may need to take some weight off your bow.

Well, let's try to break it. Everything appears approximately. I turn it up, maybe a little bit higher and then when you pull it's just a lever down. that when I go back to the full drawing, hey, it's minimal movement and then ideally my pin will be pretty close to what I'm aiming for, so you know, I like to try to get it to where my pin is, about 10 inches for a foot by above what I'm aiming at, as the target, and then when I come back, I can get a little closer to the point while settling into my anchor.
I bring that pin to the point and then I'm Ready to enter my heart, so I won't waste time aiming my bow. I see this a lot when guys come up and draw and go and anchor and then it's this: it goes down and down and back. down and down they finally hit the target now they're starting to aim well I just wasted the best three or four seconds of my draw just putting the bow on the target, so here's how much your practice connects your shot, everything is ready, raises everything to about eye level and then back, so now my pen is right above my target, all I have to do is settle in a little and execute the shot, if you can imagine something like a push and pull , like a lever down, like that boom, you know. of turning my torso towards the target and as I shoot, you know I'm using my shoulder and my torso there, so it's not all over my shoulder and if I try to stand perfectly square and just shoot here with my shoulder, it's going to put a lot of stress on the shoulder joint.
I've seen guys get hurt, especially hunting, where it's early in the morning, you get up, you crawl into a tree or a blind on the ground, or even if you're not on the ground, you're blind. You're just walking around, you know you haven't warmed up, you may not have drawn your bow or shot your bow ten or twelve times before you and you know that if you try and just exercise that with your whole shoulder, it's actually very easy. to hurt you, whereas if I come in here, you know my torso is slightly turned towards the target, you know, when it comes time to draw, it's not all my shoulder, I'm helping to help my shoulder by turning my torso and then when it comes .
Again, my pin is pretty close to what I'm aiming at, so I won't waste time requiring my aim so you know if you're hunting or shooting at the target, lowering your release is pretty

important

, in fact, in a lot of these ones. tournaments, if you make it, they will take you off the field. I was in a group with a guy in Redding two years ago and he actually got kicked off the field. It was a somewhat controversial agreement. I don't think it was. actually, Sky Drawing, which was just an uphill target and its release was broken in its time, went over the target, but anyway, you know, if you start up here, draw your bow and then come down, if you have a mechanical release, here they are.
You're going to be shooting at the ceiling at an indoor range or launching it high above the target and into the range somewhere else, so it's also a safety issue, like I said, if you need to pull some weight off your bow. To work on this, if you've been drawn in like this or you're coming out on top for a long time, take some weight off your bow, develop those muscles, not only do you know, go straight for it, but I think we'll have a much better alignment, a much better hold and we'll improve shooting overall, so I hope that helps you a little.
I know it's pretty in-depth coverage of something pretty

simple
