Basically, anything weighing

. ship to buyer so many of you know I do free

shipping

on most of my items which raises a lot of questions about how exactly I can ship these really heavy items to buyers and still

make

a

profit

so today I'm going to share With you all my

tips

for

shipping

heavy items as

cheap

ly as possible, but I also want to include some

tips

for shipping first class items, because first class is the cheapest shipping. method you can accomplish so I wanted to give just a couple of very quick tips on that first and then we'll move on to the heavier items so now

when

you ship first class there are four different levels. of weight

when

it comes to shipping your item and the reason knowing these four levels is important is because if you are new to shipping on eBay, it can be a little stressful trying to

make

sure you know the exact weight in ounces to avoid be overcharged or undercharged, whether it's paid by your buyer or you as the seller, because if you know what these levels are, you can go ahead and round up to the next level instead of having to worry about anything else your item may or not. be in the package so that the four levels for first class are four ounces, which is all up to four ounces in weight and then all up to eight and wait then all up to 12 ounces in weight and then all up to 15 point 9 or 16 ounces, which is 1 pound 4 8 12 16 so for example if your item weighs 10.2 ounces you can also round it up to 12 ounces to be safe because 12 is the next level up for first class and the reason this is also important is because sometimes If you want to put your very small first class item in a box, a box can take it to the next level and end up paying a little more for the shipping label when you could have saved something by not using a box.

Here is a shipping roll with Scotch Flexin seal. In fact, I made a whole video on the benefits of using Scotch Flex and Steel shipping roll. I'll go ahead and link that video here if you missed it, but Scotch has been a sponsor. on my YouTube channel for a while now and this is by far the best product I think they could have come up with. Let me tell you why I mention it now because I have been able to save a lot of

money

. on shipping labels, shipping items on the Scotch Flex and Steel shipping roll instead of placing items and boxes that would have thrown me to the next level, for example, if I have a small item like this playdough that was here because Benjamin plays with play dough while I ship sometimes, if you sell this play dough and let's say it weighs six ounces, you can ship it at the 8 ounce rate, but the best way to ship this play dough is probably in a small box to make sure the plastic doesn't get crushed ;

However, if you are going to ship this in a box suddenly it now weighs 9 ounces which means it will take it to the next level of first class and cost you more money, but if you ship it in something like The Scotch Flex Shipping Roll and Seal that has multiple layers of protection keeps it safe like a box. You can still ship it for the 8 ounce rate because the roll doesn't weigh as much as the box, so you save a little. of money on shipping there and if you've never heard of Scotch flex and seal roll, it's awesome.

I always promote it, which is why Scotch is a sponsor of my YouTube channel. The Amazon link to the Scotch flex and sale shipping feature is always in the description of my video because I use it so regularly. This is probably the 12th run I've gone through in the last few months because I love using the product because it really saves me from having to get kicked into the highest first class shipping levels many times with the exact same example because I ship a lot items in our first class and if I can avoid putting them in a box using this if it keeps me on the lower tier I definitely do well so that was my first tip for saving money when shipping.
Now let's move on to the heavy stuff because I know that's what you all came here to learn how to ship all the heavy stuff as cheaply as possible. The first thing I'm going to talk about is by far the easiest way to keep shipping heavy items cheap and that is to use priority flat rate envelopes, so there are actually three different types and they all vary in price depending on which one you choose the cheapest. it's the normal flat rate envelope it's just a paper and cardboard envelope this is the minimum this is six dollars and ninety four cents currently the day I'm filming this the prices always go up so if you watch this video at some point It's Prices may have gone up in the future, but right now, as a top-rated eBay seller, you get a slightly bigger discount, so this envelope is currently six dollars and ninety-four cents if you print it from the eBay site. eBay next.
It's the exact same type of envelope except it's legal size, so let me see, you can see this is the regular one, which is six ninety-four, this is the legal one which is seven dollars and four cents, so It costs about ten cents more to get it. It's a little bigger than the third flat envelope, it's a padded envelope and it has some sort of bubble wrap embedded in it. This one costs. Oh, I don't use this one very often. I think it costs seven dollars and 33 cents. shipping in the flat rate padded envelope could cost like 750 something, not sure.
Honestly, I don't use this one much, which is why I end up saving so much money on shipping because the cheapest one is the one I choose to use because As I said, this is how to ship heavy items as cheaply as possible, therefore, I use the envelope of Cheapest flat rate envelope, which is the normal cardboard flat rate envelope. I know you're thinking about two things, you're thinking about two things right now and I know you. I'm thinking of two things because it's a question I get all the time, everyone always wants clarification on this, so this is an envelope, it seems like you're only allowed to send documents here, like it has to be flat, hence the flat name. envelope rate, no, no, that's not how it works, so you can put anything that fits in this envelope; will ship for the price of the flat rate envelope if it fits it ships what used to be the commercial you would be United States Postal Service uses it if it fits it ships they use it with the flat rate boxes and everything flat on the flat rate envelope represents the rate not the actual product which is flat so if you can put it here and close it you can send it but now it's my little trick it's my little trick if you've been watching my channel for a time you've probably heard me share this tip before and it's this little baby here's the 1096 priority box ell so this little beauty fits perfectly in one of these flat rate envelopes and now I know what you're going to say now it's allowed, that is a question I get very, very frequently, can you use this box inside this envelope?
Yes, you are what you are not allowed. However, what you do is use priority labeled merchandise, cover it and ship it using another service, like if you take this box and put it inside a poly bag and ship this first class and inside is a priority box and it's just covering up the fact that it is priority to pay for it for a cheaper shipping rate or if you are covering it up and using it to ship UPS or FedEx, that is not allowed at all, that is a violation of using free priority shipping products However, I have had it confirmed on numerous occasions by numerous employees as well as the postmaster, I regularly see that it is perfectly acceptable to use priority shipping supplies in any way as long as you pay for priority shipping, so that if I pay for priority shipping, I will.
I am allowed to use priority shipping supplies to package and secure the product, so now let me show you exactly how this works. Oh, and I forgot to mention that all priority supplies are free. That's right, they are all free. All of these priority shipping supplies I use. For my business, they are all 100% free. You can get many of them at your local post office or you can order them in bulk

online

at usps.com/smallbiz. Always attach the shipping label first. Sometimes boxes can get a little lumpy, so attaching the shipping label after all the merchandise is on the envelope can be difficult, so put your labor first and then the next thing you always do.
I do is secure the seams, this is not because it is guaranteed. burst but I'd rather be safe than sorry so I just put some tape on the seams to make sure and the reason for this is because this is going to stretch a little bit and I don't want the adhesive to tear. It changes with the weather, like if it's hot or cold the glue might give and you don't want it to break so I like to secure all the edges with tape just in case and now I won't because I don't actually ship these items, but I have these bread bags that I always use.
I always talk about them. In fact, you can buy them at Walmart. They are great value twist lock bags. You can buy them for about $3 a box. hundred, so what I'll do is anything that might leak. I always put a clear bag in just to make sure there are no leaks during transportation, so let's pretend I did that, but I'm not actually shipping these items and then the next thing I do is grab some packing paper because you want to fill the entire there will be dead space in the box so the items don't move, then I will wrap them in packing paper.
I like to tape the box so it doesn't open like that just to preserve it because when you get them they're all flat so you have to fold them to put them together so I just tape them together. that doesn't come unfolded and then I'm just going to take the bottles that I recently wrapped in the packing paper and I'm going to slide them right into this 1096 ell box. You can see there's enough room in there, you could even fit a third bottle if you wanted to close it and they're there like this, now I'm going to go over the boundaries of the boxes sometimes, so sometimes the boxes might get a little distended because I might put something a little bit wider in there, so I'll definitely use the tape to keep it sealed because the box is a little bit my bubble if I don't put something that's that narrow in there, but then you just take the box, take your envelope, look and slide it in. right in the box it's there, everyone sees, then you just take this off, try to do this so you can see it, just fold it like this, like this, like this, and then of course I would tape it across this just to make sure That stays, but look, that box fits nicely right there in a flat rate envelope and ships for six dollars and ninety-four cents if I ever ship things like lotions, shampoos, conditioners, anything that's heavy, whatever. one or more of them.
Always always always. I send them this way. I almost never use a padded flat rate envelope and then of course if something is too big or lumpy and doesn't fit well inside a regular flat rate envelope, in those cases I will do it. use the flat rate padded envelope, however the 96l box still fits here but is a little more snug due to the bubbles. I tried putting the 1096L box in these and the bubbles keep getting stuck, it gets annoying so anyway generally If I ever use this I would use pieces of cardboard to form a box around it so for example this It's a really big bottle of clarifying swim shampoo, so it's too long to fit in the 1096L box, so I would.
I wouldn't feel comfortable sending it in a regular flat envelope, but it's still good for padding, so what I would do in this case is wrap it again in a clear bag to prevent it from leaking. I would tape it down. A little bit of tape keeps the spout from standing up and dripping, and then I would take cardboard and literally wrap cardboard around it and tape it down so the bottle wouldn't get squashed that way, so the cardboard keeps it from getting squashed. too much. and then I would wrap it in paper or more bubble wrap and enclose it in a flat, padded envelope.
Now let's say it doesn't fit, let's say it's too big or you have someone combining orders and it doesn't fit anymore. A flat rate padded envelope is the next option. From there, you have two more options if you want to stick with the United States Postal Service now, if something weighs more than fourpounds, in my experience it is much cheaper to use FedEx, however, I personally. I don't like to use FedEx very often because it is much more inconvenient for me to have to go to the FedEx drop-off point. I have my packages picked up by the mailman on my porch, it's the most convenient way to run the business out of my home. he just picks everything up however if I send FedEx I have to end up physically going somewhere to drop it off and that takes time out of my day so I don't have much time to work so I have to take a 30 one way trip a minute trip just to drop off a package is really inconvenient and takes time out of my day, so I don't use FedEx much, but if you have a package that weighs more than four pounds, then FedEx will probably be your best option and I've never seen that UPS rates actually beat FedEx, so FedEx for that, but we're only talking about the United States Postal Service right now, so if it doesn't fit in a regular straight flat envelope or flat rate padded envelope, You have two more options to keep shipping as cheap as possible.
The first one, the one I use most often, is regional a boxes, so regional a boxes come in two different sizes, they come in a long narrow side loading version and then they also come in a short top loading version, so they are both shipped by the same, so it doesn't matter if you choose the side or the top loader they will both be shipped as regional. Now I don't want to go into too much detail about how regional funds work. I have a video that explains everything from start to finish and I will link to that video.
Up here, if you want to learn more about how regional A boxes work, there are also regional B boxes. However, I don't even sort them because I've never used them personally. If you enter regional B territory, you could also Well, use FedEx, regional B boxes are so expensive, you could also use a flat rate box, a medium flat rate box, a large flat rate box, you could also send FedEx, It just doesn't make any sense to use a regional box. In my opinion, the regional B box, so I only use the regional a, that's why I talk about it so much, so the video of the regional boxes and how to use them is here, but the next step will be the regional a boxes, which are a little In addition, they have a little more capacity than the hat, they have a little more capacity than the normal flat envelope and the padded flat envelope and they have the sturdiness of a box.
I shouldn't say they only hold a little more. I actually have a lot of things that I can mainly for buyers that I have that buy multiple things. I almost always end up using a regional box if they are combining orders because everything fits much better in these and then the second option that what you have is to use pirate ship communication, so pirate ship communication is completely free and you can link your eBay store through the system so you can easily export all your souls to shipping labels, so now what the pirate ship does is instead of shipping.
They grade by weight, they grade by cubic space, which means you can have a very heavy item, but if it's small, it will actually cost you less even if it weighs more, so pirate ship is perfect if you're shipping something that's really super heavy but it's smaller than 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches if it's bigger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches it's probably best to use FedEx but if it's smaller than that and still weighs a lot, our pirate ship can probably save you a lot of money, so I have a real-life example for you. I ended up selling something and I know I'll be able to save money by using a pirate ship to ship it instead of paying a shipping label. through eBay, so I'm going to take you to my computer and show you exactly what it looks like and how much money I can save by using a pirate ship to ship that heavy item.
Let's move on to my computer so I can show you. Okay, here's an example of how a pirate ship will end up saving you money in certain cases, so this particular item weighs four pounds and is a giant pool float that I sold, so let's take a look at how much it costs. ship this item using the eBay discount versus how much cheaper we can make it if you take into consideration Kubik pirate ship shipping so this item is a four pound package so you can already see with FedEx it will cost twenty two dollars and Five cents to FedEx. and if we go to the United States Postal Service it's a little bit cheaper but it's still seventeen dollars and sixty cents for a four pound package let's go ahead and put the dimensions here, it's 14 by 14 by three, let's update it to see if the changes they're okay, so with the package size of this pool float it's $17.60 if we're going to print the shipping label through eBay, which I will say is even cheaper than if you go to the office and this also has to do with how far the buyer is from me, if the buyer was closer to me this would probably be cheaper, but we are only looking at this moment so we can show you how the pirate ship can save with the cubic priority. shipping versus the normal priority shipping that you would get on eBay so this four pound package would ship for $17.60 now let's take a look at the pirate ship okay so here we are now on the pirate ship.
I've skipped, you know, a couple of the steps because I'm importing information through eBay and I don't want it to see all of the buyers' information and all of my information, but this is where we would go in and start the process of selecting the information. shipping for this same individual. Order again up here, it's the same pool float, so if we say it's a box, I put the same dimensions, the same weight here and then we'll scroll down and see what our cubic shipping rate is going to calculate is okay , so the cubic priority is $16 and two cents, so you can see it's not a huge savings, but it's cheaper.
The regular priority at $17.60, the pirate ship is actually 16 dollars and two cents, so it saves us a dollar fifty-eight and shipping, but let me show you what will actually make it even cheaper than this, so yeah we go back and click on this little dropdown instead of selecting a box, we're going to select an envelope which is a box in a bag. It's actually a little trick you can use to save even more money on the pirate ship platform. If you can put the item inside the box in a poly bag, it can save you even more, so I can put this group. float that is already in its own box.
I can put it in a poly bag and let me show you how that will save even more, so when I put it in a bag it actually measures 15 inches by 15 inches and it still weighs four pounds. So now let's see what rate we get. Now you can see just by putting it in a 15 inch by 15 inch poly bag, my rate drops to twelve dollars and twenty nine cents and now I know what you're going to ask me. You're going to ask how to find a 15 x 15 inch poly bag, while I actually have a 15 x 19 inch poly bag that I'm going to cut to 15 x 15 inches and when you do that when you cut the ball, the bag of polyethylene is smaller, you actually get a cheaper rate because the packages are smaller, that's how cubic priority works, the smaller the packages, it doesn't necessarily matter how much it weighs, it all depends on the size of the package and, Suddenly, by putting that pool float in a smaller poly bag, the rate is cheaper, so before my rate for a four pound package on eBay was $17.60, but how can I put that little box of pool float in a large polyethylene bag just by putting it. in one bag it was twelve dollars and twenty-nine cents, which is a savings of over five dollars by shipping the same four pound pool float and then the last little tip that I can't give you is to buy your shipping labels

online

, I have the strong feeling that many of the people who ask how can I ship so cheaply, I think many of those people actually go to the post office and pay shipping labels and of course you don't know unless someone tells you say it, but if you go to the post office and pay for shipping labels, you are paying 100% more because when you walk into the post office you are paying the retail price.
ZERO discount, one of the advantages of purchasing your shipping label through the eBay site is getting a slightly bigger discount, so when you use flat rate envelopes or regional boxes or use a site like pirate ship in combination with the other. small discounts that you can get by simply printing your shipping labels online and using the free priority shipping supplies provided to us by the United States Postal Service, which is what allows you to ship these items at a price cheap enough for you to I can still make a

profit

on heavy items, okay guys, that's all I have for you today.
