Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra & Galaxy Buds+ UNBOXING

Feb 27, 2020
- What's up guys, Saf here at SuperSaf TV. And finally, finally we have the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G at home. Yes, I know it's late, sorry. I did my best to fix this as soon as possible. But sometimes things are late in the UK, what can we do? Now, to make things a little different, I'll also be opening up the Samsung Galaxy Buds+ and some Samsung cases. Here we have the Smart LED cover and some others. Hopefully that will make it a little different. Let's go ahead and get started right away with the S20 Ultra. So on the box itself we have the shape of the S20 Ultra, and the S20 logo escapes from the shape, and that is to emphasize the almost bezel-less screen we have.

The S20 Ultra 5G logo here. Let's open this. Here it is. Now you can see I have the Cosmic Gray version and there is also a Cosmic Black. But those are the only two color options available. Let's put this aside for a second so we can see what else is inside the box. Now, first things first, there is actually a smaller box that is hidden in this top half. It's something that many people have missed on other devices, and this involves some paperwork, in addition to the SIM card tool. And then in the main box, we have a power brick.

More Interesting Facts About,

Now this will vary depending on your region. Here I have the two-pin European version. This is a 25 watt fast charger. But the S20 Ultra supports 45W charging. But you would have to buy that charger separately. We have a USB type C to USB type C cable. And finally we have braided AKG USB type C headphones. Okay, now let's get to the device and the first thing we need to look at is this absolutely beautiful 6.9-inch dynamic OLED display. This thing is absolutely beautiful. It has great viewing angles, incredible colors, it's a Quad HD+ screen, so it's also very, very sharp.

And what's interesting this year, because it's not as curved as Samsung screens in the past, so Samsung is moving away from that curved trend, which I'm definitely in favor of. And instead, the back is a little more curved, which makes it more comfortable to hold, despite its large size. In addition to its weight of 220 grams. Now by far the most important thing for me about this display is the fact that it can support up to 120Hz. It has a high refresh rate display. Now there's a little disclaimer that as soon as you switch to 120Hz, you'll switch to 1080p, so you won't get that Quad HD+ resolution.

However, things are going to go very well. And generally speaking, at 1080p, things still look pretty good. Now this is not enabled by default, you need to go to settings and turn on high refresh rate. But once you've done that, everything goes very well. I love it. Now the bezels are also smaller compared to last year. So here we get pretty much the entire screen. And there is only one blow. This is for the front camera. The punch-hole is actually smaller compared to what we had on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and of course on the S10+ we had two cameras.
The front camera is 40MP with an aperture of f2.2 and can record 4K up to 60 frames per second. But let's go ahead, turn this around and take a look at these bad boys. So we have a quad camera setup here on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. I must say that there are quite a few camera bumps. This will be solved if you use a case or something. And it is a rectangular camera module. One of the largest camera modules I have seen on any smartphone and it is towards the left side. Now, the reason why this camera module is so great is because we have big improvements for cameras.
First, let's talk about the main camera. The main camera is a 108MP camera with an aperture of f1.8. Now, the important thing about this camera is not just the megapixels, it is the fact that the sensor size is much larger compared to what we have had in previous years. It can capture three times more light compared to the S10. Now although we have 108 MP, by default you will shoot at 12 MP, but what that will allow you to have is 9 pixels combined into one. And that will give you much better sensitivity in low light. And then we have the

ultra

wide angle camera.
It is 12MP, with f2.2 aperture. It will allow you to achieve much more in your shots. And for me personally, last year's Note 10+ was my favorite

ultra

wide camera. So it would be interesting to see how this one performs. There is a time of flight camera, which will help with depth information, so it should be really useful for your portraits. And finally we have the telephoto zoom camera. Now this uses parascope technology, similar to what we saw on some devices last year. But this takes things a bit to the extreme. So it's a 48MP camera, with an aperture of f3.5.
It will give you about five times optical zoom, 10 times hybrid zoom, and up to 100 times digital zoom. Samsung calls this space zoom, as you can see from this logo. Now, obviously I'm going to try this, put it to the test. From what I've seen so far, 100 times is good to get really close to the topics, but it doesn't really give you too many usable results. However, around 30x you'll still get really good results. Now, of course guys, of course I know you've all been waiting for this. And my tweet box, my Instagram, they all just got spammed with: "Saf, when will we see the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's SuperSaf-style camera compare to the iPhone 11 Pro Max?" And now that I have it at home, it will arrive very, very soon.
So be sure to subscribe if you haven't already and remove the bell icon. (bell sounds) You will then receive a notification as soon as it is available. I'll be out with this in a minute, it's almost midnight, but I'll be out with this camera and doing a lot of low light testing. There will be a lot of tests in this next video, make sure you don't miss it. In addition to the read image we also have video improvements. We have 8K at 24 frames per second. Once again, I'm looking forward to putting it to the test. But the fact that you can record 8K on a smartphone is crazy.
As for the construction and design, we have a metal frame with glass on the back, the glass is curved as mentioned and it is IP68 water and dust resistant. Now there is a pre-applied screen protector on the screen, this is a plastic screen protector. And there's the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which is similar to the one we had last year. It works very well, very, very fast. Now taking a look at the device, at the bottom is the USB C input, there is a button for a speaker. We also have the secondary stereo speaker in the headset.
On the right side, we have a power button and a volume rocker. Now this on the Note 10+, for example, was on the left side, so Samsung has now moved it to the right side. There is nothing on the left side. Then at the top we have the SIM card tray. Now the interesting thing is that Samsung still offers a micro SD card slot, so you can expand the storage on the S20 Ultra, which is definitely a nice touch. It comes with a base 128GB, so if you already have more than 3.0 storage, you can also get a version with up to 512GB.
There is a base 12GB of RAM, but you can get up to 16GB of RAM, that's crazy in a smartphone. And this is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Exodus 990 chipset, depending on your region. I'm here in the UK so this is the Exodus version. That's something else I also want to try, I've also been trying to get the Qualcomm Snapdragon version. Using them both, day to day, I will cover my experience in the full review. For the battery, you have a huge 5,000 milliamp battery. So this should help you get through the day pretty easily. It's something I'll definitely be trying.
We have 25W fast charging out of the box, up to 45W fast charging purchased separately. But we do have support for wireless charging and this is quite fast wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging. This is wireless power sharing, where you'll be able to charge other devices on the S20 Ultra, like these. These Samsung Galaxy Buds+. Let's now move on to the Samsung Galaxy Buds+ and take a look. In terms of pricing and availability, I'll leave some links in the description below. So if you want to go ahead and pick it up. But it costs around £1200 in the UK or $1400 in the US.
The good news though is that if you pre-order the S20 Ultra before a certain date, I can't remember exactly what date it is. You will get these Samsung Galaxy Buds+ for free. It's definitely something to consider. Let's take a quick look at some of the key features here at the back. 11 hours of playback, so it's actually almost double what we had on the previous generation of Galaxy Buds. Two-way speakers for rich sound. Triple microphones for clear voice calls. This is something that could definitely have been improved on the Galaxy Buds, so I can't wait to try it out.
Sound by AKG, wireless charging compatible. Let's open this. So here I have the black version, there is also a white version and a kind of blue version. In addition to the Galaxy Buds+, you get the USB Type A to USB Type C cable. You'll get some replacement inner ear tips in different sizes, as well as a few different outer ear tips, which you know will help keep them in your ears. And these for me, like last year's Galaxy Buds, were really good when it came to staying in my ears, compared to many other ear

buds

. That's something I really want to do.
Glassy finish, that's interesting. This time we have a glossy finish, compared to the more matte finish we had last time. And we have a USB Type C input, let's go ahead and pair them directly with the S20 Ultra and see how easy this whole process is. And there we go, right away, we have Galaxy Buds+. A new device has been detected. Forward. They now look a lot like the Galaxy Buds from previous years. And they also fit very similarly, and they fit me very, very well. Honestly, I can put them on for a run, if I'm at the gym, if I'm on the plane, they just don't fall out, and that's because we have these hooks, which really help keep them in your ears.
Let's listen and see what they are like. We have the configuration of the application, it is very, very easy. And with the app, you can review the different ambient sound settings, which is interesting. Okay, we're down now, now I can definitely hear myself, now I can definitely hear myself even more. We have the equalizer and we also have to find my headphones in case I lose them. Definitely quite interesting. We don't have noise cancellation, but relatively speaking, because they have a fairly comfortable fit, they block out a lot of outside noise. Especially considering the price they come at, they are much cheaper than many other headphones that have active noise cancellation.
Considering the price, I think they are really good. I'm going to listen a little. I can definitely hear more bass compared to last year's model, and it sounds like it. I wonder if they are a little sturdier in terms of casing and if they will open as quickly. The case seems to be a little more complicated compared to recent years. So I'll use them as my main headphones for the next few weeks and see how they go with them. Now let's go ahead and take a look at some of those cases. First, we have the standard silicone cover which looks pretty simple.
This is the blue color, I'm sure there will be many other colors available as well. It is quite standard, it has a yellow color on the inside and blue on the outside. A pretty good fit and that way the camera bump won't be as pronounced. Nice soft touch, pretty standard case, now let's look at the little LED display cover. Well, this comes with a little quick start guide. And we can place this here, and it immediately detected that we have the LED display cover. It asks us if we want to download some additional features. And when we close the case there, you'll be able to see that it's now illuminating time.
It will also light up things like your notifications. It has a nice material finish, so it feels really good and premium. I'm usually not a fan of folding cases, but the fact that it has LEDs might make it a little more attractive. And the last case we have is the Smart Clear View cover. So let's open this one. Once again a case with a lid. And it continues very easily. Immediately, we received a “Congratulations on your new case” message. So it is detected that we have this new case and it also has some different themes that we can use.
And when we close this, we see that always on screen comes into effect. So we have the time, we have the date, the battery percentage and things like your notifications will also appear here, which is pretty cool. I definitely like the feel of this. In my opinion, this looks much moreelegant, it just looks very, very clean. And that is the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. What do you guys think about this? What coverage would you like to see done with the SuperSaf style? Definitely leave me a comment below, let me know your thoughts. And as mentioned, there will be a lot of coverage here.
