Ryan Newman Update

Lorain postponed yesterday's Daytona 500 to this afternoon. It was a bit of a slower start to the race in terms of crashes and excitement, but as usual several crashes happen late, including a very serious incident on the last lap. We have good news to report. on it at one point but the race was pretty clean as we mentioned so far 17 laps to go they always say it's not about if the big one will happen at Daytona that's when this crash involved almost half the field including Brad, Michigan native. Keselowski you saw there, who led 30 laps, would stay under a red flag for a while to clean up the race track and with two laps in he left another big wreck in turn four involving eight more cars after another red flag to clean up. he would eventually get back to the green flag but he crashes unfortunately we haven't made it past the homestretch it would be Denny Hamlin winning his 3rd Daytona 500 and a hard finish to watch Ryan Newman who you see right there ends up on his roof like a scary finish which has everyone so concerned tonight that Hamlin couldn't really celebrate his second straight 500 win yeah I mean I think sometimes we take for granted how safe cars are but you know number one we were praying for Ryan. so good with

Oh, in that interview, of course, it came moments after the race before many drivers knew the severity of Newman's crash, believe it or not, in fact Denny Hamlin's team owner Joe Gibbs issued an apology minutes later saying that they did not know the seriousness of the accident and are sending their prayers. All reports indicate that he was very somber in victory lane after that celebration and Newman was rushed to a local hospital arriving around 8:35 p.m. we just got word a couple of moments ago of a release from NASCAR saying he is being treated in Assyria in serious condition but the doctors have indicated that his injuries are not life threatening at this time the release also said they will provide more information as it becomes available, we'll be sure to keep you informed both on air and online
