Rubber Band Technique | 10 Ways to Use it!

Feb 28, 2020
Hi guys, I'm so excited about today's video because I'm going to demonstrate a

technique

that I first showed on my YouTube channel five years ago and to this day it's one of my most popular videos and you do see

rubber

band

s this

technique

is the

rubber

band

technique, so when I filmed this video five years ago, I had no idea how popular it would be. in nova scotia but at that time I was staying with my aunt I didn't have many supplies and I was exchanging for a trip that I had won with Stampin Up so I was trying to be creative and the rubber technique was what occurred to me with what i'm using a block similar to the one i used in my original video now i'll post the link below so i'm just taking one block and just wrapping it in rubber bands and i have different band whips there's also my rubber bands now also on my original video i used markers to cover these bands because i didn't have ink pads with me today i'm going to stamp with ink pads the bases of my cards are a whisper white and i have some sticky notes too in my original video i was using note paper because i didn't I had sticky notes with me so I'm lining up the fold of my card with my stamp to stamp the graph paper this makes sure it's straight and covers about half an inch maybe 3/4 inch of that white whisper now I'm going to put the second piece ok i think i want it to be a little bit wider so this is more or less my own card from that original video but i'm also going to demonstrate in this video a couple of fun variations ok , there we go everything is masked so im taking my old olive green ink pad this is my all time favorite green i love it so i use the ink pad instead of the markers. like i did in that stiff video and now i'm just stamping so i'm creating a really fun background using these rubber bands now i'm taking my beach spray i love this color and instead of a sponge in the original video i'm using my Brayer sponge, okay, and I'm just going to go straight to the center, really clean background.

I don't know why I can make another video about this sooner because even in my original video I'm sharing the stamping possibilities. and different things and when i was watching that video today i thought oh my gosh i really want to try that which is why i'm making another video because this is a great technique and there are so many

ways

you can step it up and i'm using a new set of stamps to this card, it's called positive thoughts because this stamp is very similar to the fern image that i used in the original video and it will look beautiful on this card so let's get that out and i'll bring in my paratus stamp and look i'm actually copying this from that original card i made my black memory in my original video because i was using a photopolymer stamp but since this is red rubber i'm going to go ahead and use my stays right now i could use either or when you use photopolymer stamps you want use your souvenir ink instead of staying lit.

I really love my black stays on and have you ever smelled it? the advantage of using perms is ok and of course with the aratus stamp i can stamp this image again if i want to make it darker. I think it looks pretty cool, but you know what, let's go ahead and reset this to make it even darker. yes good now I am going to move this I am not going to clean it because I will probably use it later and I am going to take the hugs prayers and love now I am taking the image of the butterfly from the same stamp ready and I am going to put it right there.

I'm going to ink this as well with my black ok so I'm using my aratus stamp again and I have a piece of scrap whisper white and I'm going to put the butterfly right here now we have dyes that just came out that coordinate with this stamp set and I have ordered them. I don't have them yet but I'm really excited to get them and there is a dye that will cut this butterfly but I'm going to cut it by hand but before I do I want to color my butterflies. I'm going to pull this out and you can see that because I had so much ink on my block when I was rolling my blue, it actually rolled a little bit of that green into it, so I have a really nice teal background, but I'm going to take my spray by the sea and apply a little bit of that on the block pick it up with my water painter and just add some color of the same thing with this butterfly and just come on I'm not going to worry about cutting the antennae that's why I stamped the first butterfly there first you know I'm not going to worry about cutting his little body either so I'm going to cut right around that place it with the blue dot.

I'm taking my fine point glue and I'm going to add some dazzling diamond sparkle to the butterfly screams and I just dropped a big blob. Try to lift a bit of that glue. i really didn't want that much glue there ok there's my finished card and in the original video i put a butterfly on the fern i use so i made it a little different super super pretty so now i'm going to make another card using Same technique, so I'm going to miss this block with water and clean it. I keep this rag in my stamp room.
I use it all the time, so this time before stamping with my erasers. I'm going to apply the color with a sponge. I am going to use Rococo rose and just apply it with a sponge. I love a couple rows with my stamping partner because I'm going to use them to score those rubber bands first, so I'm just tapping on all of them. over this open area i ink this and stamp it exactly the same way i did on the first card and i know it's hard to see where i'm stamping because of course it's clear ink but that will only add to the surprise when i add my powder embossing ok let's see what this will look like if you remove these ok i'm using my gold embossing powder because i didn't use my embossing partner on the white.
I have some dust where I don't. I don't want it so I'm just taking a brush and cleaning that up okay I'm going to release this is my heat tool oh my gosh what a beautiful background I'm just thinking about our celebration flyer we got this set of stamps it's actually part of the pack the power of the whole pack and it comes with the stamp binder now i don't have this yet but when this set of stamps will be beautiful with this particular background so nice but let's find out what i'm going to do with this instead, okay, I've decided to use the lovely water lily and coordinating dies for this card.
I'm going to stamp with this flower and I'm rubbing my paper again with the stamping partner put my stamp on and I'll ink it with my first mark pass this on with my gold dust again tell him this I'm using my melon ramble as well as the rococo rose I'm going to start with the real cocoa rose first and some ink on my block and again do it with the newer style of ink pads because the older style is easier to squeeze and get ink on top, while these look a little more complicated to me so I just used this technique and used my water painter flower so pretty I'm going to run this through my Big Shot using the coordinating die so there's my Lily die cut and I want add one of the little green lily pads that go underneath so I'm going to go ahead and stamp and then cut that out because these stamps are reversible I'm going to stamp the solid side first and I'm stamping this with my old olive and I'm cleaning this up, You want to make sure that when you use reversible stamps on your blocks and your stamps are really clean or not I'm not going to stick with my embossing partner and primer and mark grass.
I'll be cutting this out with my coordinating guy, so these are the dyes that go with the beautiful water lily stamp set. A great variety that I can't wait to use. this one i haven't used yet but these are beautiful beautiful guides and of course this whole set you can win for free during the celebration so that's great so now i have my water lily and the flower i'm going to set them aside because I want to stamp my sentiment first so I'm going to rub the whole piece down with the stamping partner ok I've picked out my peaceful moments stamp set this is a new stamp set I got recently I'm going to use this one here these are the moments we will look back on with joy normally i put all my stamps together in one go but i haven't done that with this one yet so remove the label i have to put my stamp on by inking it with my first smart because i'm going to engrave this in gold Oh fancy ok let's put them on I'm going to add some pearls or a bit of dimension there's the finished card so that's the rubber band technique with some embossing so you can imagine if you used powder white for embossing instead of gold or silver.
I mean imagine if you did this for Christmas with blues and whites or silver and put a snowflake here. i have a thousand ideas i know i do and it's so much fun ok so here's the first card i made again very similar to my card in the original video i made five years ago here's the card i just finished finishing and that's with the gold embossing and the same card design and now I'm going to show you eight more cards yeah eight more cards using the rubber band technique so this is a really simple card this card just uses the rubber band technique blank whisper cardstock and an ink pad this is granny apple green the stamp set is by hoot-hoot hooray this is a great card for beginning stampers who don't have a lot of supplies and even for those of us who have been stamping for quite a while and i need to make a quick card.
These were the types of cards I used to do a lot when I was starting out just a simple card with a little bit of matting and the flower color is for Coco pink with a little bit of a bit of curry ground and a thousand diamonds in the center so here's another cute card now this one is using a new set of stamps from my mini catalog it's called someone special and Stampin Up just released coordinating dies so the rubber band technique on this one is exactly the same as this one , but differences use additional colors, so in this one I used crumble cake, early espresso, and mossy meadow.
Now I'm going to show you the next card that uses the piece that I cut out in the center of this one and here. now it's here what i did with this was punch the leaf punch out of the center of the circle and put it here and also covered both pieces with the first mark after doing the rubber band technique and etched them with clear so i got a shiny look and i also stamped the coordinating stamp in the center and embossed it and also clear so it has a resist technique embossed in the center. binder and I also lightly sprayed the first coat of espresso using the bright champagne pink and the sentiment of just breathing is from the colorful seasons stamp set.
Now here's another one I made and this time I used a circle instead of the original where I did the masking to make it a rectangular shape so in the center I sponged Highland Heather and then stamped with my rubber band using Highland Heather as well and the flowers and sentiment are from the forever blossoms stamp set and then I added rich Razzleberry and a little more Highland Heather for the flowers, some sequins and some pearls in the center and then to finish off the card I used a wink from Stella, a clear nod from Stella only on the flowers and leaves, now on this card, use the embossed embossing technique.
I stamped my rubber bands first and then embossed them with white powder and then sponged the color for the background so the background is a pool party then a mint macaron so saffron and calypso coral . I added a feeling. some rhinestones to finish this card it was fun for this card I used our powdered pigments so I sprinkled a couple of powders on my whisper white cardstock, lightly misted it with water then used my water paint to blend them together and then I stamped the bands stretchy and embossed them in white and then used my stitch label dyes on another piece of whisper white and glued it on top and then used my sailing pack home for the sailboat and the sentiment that this card is actually one of my favourites, so i did it the same way as this background, but i made a bigger piece, used more colors as you could see, embossed the elastic bands in white and then cut them into three quarter strips inch and then I glued them in basic black. and then my forever flowers sentiment which i embossed in black with white and cut and then the coordinating dies cherry blossom tints are what i used.
I used petal pink cardstock and some vellum and then silver foil for the centers and it turned out. very very pretty here is the last card and i used the elastic bands directly onto gold cardstock and embossed it in gold and then cut out the gold foil with my stitch to be my heart die just open this up and this is what the inside looks like and then i used our new parisian dice for this black swirl and added some gold sequins and the sentiment that says everything about me loves you all is from our forever blossoms stamp set now let's takea peek at the front Look here I have the rubber band texture so I just stamped the rubber bands all over the front with the first mark and embossed and clear so there you go my friends 10 cards using the elastic band technique.
I'm very glad I redid this. video after making it so long ago I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video like I al

ways
