Rubber Band Technique | 10 Ways to Use it!

Feb 28, 2020
Hello friends, I am very excited about today's video because I am going to demonstrate a

technique

that I first showed on my YouTube channel five years ago and to this day it is one of my most popular videos and yes, you see elastic

band

s, This

technique

is the

rubber

band

technique, so when I filmed this video five years ago I had no idea how popular it would be. I had almost no supplies with me. I was actually in the process of moving to British Columbia, which I ultimately didn't do. I ended up staying. in Nova Scotia, but at the time I was staying with my aunt I didn't have much supplies and I was making changes for a trip I had won with Stampin Up, so I was trying to be creative and the

rubber

technique was what I came up with .

So I'm using a similar block to the one I used in my original video. Now I'll post the link below so I'm just taking a block and just wrapping it with rubber bands and having different band whips. There are also my rubber bands now also in my original video. I used markers to cover these bands because I didn't have ink pads with me today. I'm going to stamp with ink pads. My card bases are white and I have some sticky notes. Also in my original video I was using note paper because I didn't have sticky notes with me, so I'm lining up the fold of my card with the graph paper, this ensures it's straight and covers about half of it. an inch, maybe 3/4 of an inch of that whisper white, now I'm going to put the second piece on, okay, I think I want it to be a little bit wider, so this is pretty much the shell of my own card that original video, but I'm also going to demonstrate in this video a couple of fun variations, okay, here we go, it's all masked out, so I'm going to grab my old olive green ink pad, this is my favorite green of all time.

I love it so I use an ink pad instead of markers. like I did in that rigid video and now I'm just stamping, so I'm creating a really fun background using these rubber bands. Now I'm taking my marine spray. I love this color and instead of a sponge in the original video. I'm using my Brayer sponge, okay, and I'm going to go right to the center with a really clean background. I don't know why I can make another video about this before because even in my original video I am sharing the highlighted possibilities. and different things and when I was watching that video today I thought: Oh my gosh, I really want to try that, that's why I'm making another video because it's a cool technique and there are so many

ways

you can improve it and I'm using a new set of stamps for this card .

It's called positive thoughts because this stamp is very similar to the fern image I used in the original video and it will look lovely on this card, so let's take it out and bring it in. on my paratus stamp and look, I'm actually copying this from that original card that I made my black keepsake in my original video because I was using a photopolymer stamp but since this is red rubber, I'm going to go ahead and use my stays. Now you could use either one, or when you're using photopolymer stamps, you want to use your souvenir ink instead of the permanent ink.

I really love my permanent black ink and have you ever smelled it? It smells like almond extract, it really smells delicious, so it's a The advantage of using leftovers is nice and of course with the aratus stamp I can stamp this image again if I want to darken it. I think it looks pretty cool, but you know, let's go ahead and reset this to make it even darker, oh my gosh. yes, very nice, now I'm going to move this, I'm not going to clean it because I'll probably use it later and I'm going to take the hugs, prayers and love, now I'm taking the image of the butterfly from the same stamp. set and I'm going to put it right there.
I'm going to ink this as well with my black, okay, so I'm going to use my aratus stamp again and I have a piece of white whisper scrap and I'm going to put the butterfly in place. here now we have dyes that just came out that coordinate with this stamp set and I have ordered them. I don't have them yet, but I'm really excited to get them and there's a dye that will cut this butterfly, but I'm. I'm going to cut it out by hand, but before I do I want to color my butterflies. I'm going to take this out and you can see that because I had so much ink on my block when I was rolling my blue, it actually rolled a little bit of that green into that, so I have a really nice teal background, but I'm going to take my spray seaside and apply a little bit of that to the block, pick it up with my aqua painter and just add a little bit of color the same way. thing with this butterfly and just see, I'm not going to worry about cutting off the antennae, that's why I stamped the first butterfly there first, you know, I'm not going to worry about cutting off its little body either, so I'm going to cut around that, put it with the blue dot, I'm going to take my fine tip glue and add some dazzling diamond sparkle to the butterfly, whoops, and I just dropped a big blob, try to pick up some of that glue. above I really didn't want that much glue there okay there's my finished card and in the original video I put a butterfly on the fern that I use so I made it a little different super super pretty so now I'm going to have to do another card using the same technique, so I'm going to smear this block with water and clean it.
I keep this rag in my stamp room. I use it all the time, so this time before stamping with my rubber bands. I'm going to apply the color with a sponge. I'm going to use Rococo pink and just apply it with a sponge. I love a couple rows taking my embossing friend because I'm going to use it first to mark those rubber bands, so I'm just touching them all up. over this open area ink this and stamp exactly the same way I did on the first card and I know it's hard to see where I'm stamping because of course it's clear ink but that's just going to add to the wow when I add my powder embossing, okay, let's see what this will look like if you remove them, okay, I'm using my gold embossing powder because I didn't use my embossing partner on the white.
I have a little dust where I don't. I don't want it, so I'm just taking a brush and cleaning it up. Well, I'm going to set this free this is my heat tool. Oh my goodness, what a beautiful background. I'm just thinking that in our celebration booklet we have this stamp set. It's actually part of the package, the power of the whole package and comes with the embossing folder. Now I don't have this yet, but when it becomes available, this stamp set will be beautiful with this particular background, very nice, but let's see what I'm going to do with this.
Instead I have decided to use the beautiful water lily and matching dies for this card that I am stamping with this flower and I am again rubbing my paper with the stamping. Friend, I leave my stamp and I'm inking it with my first mark passing this with my gold dust again tell him this I'm using my ramble melon as well as the rococo rose. I'm going to start with the actual cocoa rose first and some ink on my block and again I'll do that with the new style of ink pads because the old style ones are easier to squeeze and leave ink on top while these I find them a little more complicated, so I used this technique and I use my aquamarine painter's flower, so pretty I'm going to execute this. through my Big Shot using the coordinating die, so there's my Lily die cut and I want to add one of the little green water lilies that goes underneath, so I'm going to go ahead and stamp and then cut it like this because these stamps are reversible.
I'm going to stamp the solid side first and I'm stamping this with my old olive and I'm cleaning this up. When using reversible stamps on your blocks, you want to make sure your stamps are really clean or I'm not going to go overboard with my stamping partner and my first and weed mark. I'll be cutting this with my coordinator, so these are the dyes that match the lovely water lily stamp set. A great variety that I can't wait to use. I haven't used this one yet, but they are beautiful guides and of course you can win this whole set for free during the celebration so that's great so now I have my lily pad and the flower that I'm going to use.
Set them aside because I want to stamp my sentiment first, so I'm going to rub the entire piece with the stamping friend. Okay, I've chosen my Peaceful Moments stamp set. This is a new stamp set from one I recently got. I'm going to do it. to use this here these are the moments that we will remember with joy normally I put all my stamps together at once. I just haven't done that with this one yet, so take off the label that I have to put my stamp on. inking it with my first smart because I'm going to engrave this in gold Oh, fancy, okay, let's put this on.
I'm going to add some beads or a little bit of dimension. There's the finished card, so that's the rubber band technique with some embossing. You can imagine if you used white embossing powder instead of gold or silver. I mean, imagine if you made this at Christmas with blues and whites or silvers and put a snowflake here, oh my gosh, don't you realize that once you start stamping I just come up with a thousand ideas, I know and It is fun. Well, here is the first card I made again, very similar to the original video card I made five years ago.
Here's the card I just finished. that's with the gold embossing and the same card design and now I'm going to show you eight more cards, yes, eight more cards using the rubber band technique, so this is a really simple card, this card just uses the technique of the elastic band in white whisper. cardstock and an ink pad, this one is granny apple green, the stamp set is hoot-hoot hooray, this is a great card for beginning stampers, stampers who don't have a lot of supplies, and even for those of us who have been stamping for a lot of time. a while and I need to make a quick card, these were the types of cards I used to make a lot when I first started, just a simple card with a little bit of matte and the flower color is for Coco pink with a little bit of crushed curry and thousand diamonds in the center, so here's another nice card.
This uses a new stamp set from my mini catalog. It's called Someone Special and Stampin Up just released matching dies, so the rubber band technique on this one is exactly the same. like this one, but the differences are additional colors, so in this one I used crumb cake, early espresso, and mossy meadow. Now I'll show you the next card that uses the piece I cut in the center of this one and here. Now here is what I did with this: I took the leaf punch out from the center of the circle and put it here and I also covered both pieces with the first mark after doing the rubber band technique and etched them with clear so that I got a shiny appearance and I also stamped the coordinating stamp in the center and embossed it and clear as well, so it has a resist embossing technique in the center.
The first layer of espresso was passed through the big shot. I used the Leafs 3d layered print. folder and I also lightly sprayed the first layer of espresso using the champagne shimmer mist pink and the feeling of just breathing is from the colorful seasons stamp set. Now here's another one I made and this time I used a circle instead of the original where I made the masking to be a rectangular shape so in the center I used a sponge over Highland Heather and then stamped with my elastic band using Highland Heather as well and the flowers and sentiment are from the Forever Blossoms stamp set and then I just added rich.
Razzleberry and a little more Highland Heather on the flowers, some sequins and some pearls in the center and then to finish the card I used a Stella wink. A clear nod to Stella only in the flowers and leaves. Now on this card I use the embossed embossing technique. I first stamped my rubber bands and then embossed them with white powder and then sponged them with the background color to make the bottom pool party, then a mint macaroon as well as saffron and Calypso coral. I added a sentiment, put on some ribbon and a few rhinestones to finish this card off which was fun for this card.
I used our pigment sprinkles so I sprinkled a couple of powders on my whisper white cardstock, lightly sprayed it with water and then used my water painter to mix them together and then I stamped the elastic bands and embossed them in white and then used the dyes from stitch tags on another piece of whisper white and glued it on top and then used my sailing home packet for the sailboat and the sentiment on this card is actually one of my favorites so I did it the same way as this one background, but I made a larger piece.
I used more colors as you could see, I taped the rubber bands in white and then cut them into three quarter inch strips and then glued them on in basic black. and then my sentiment of the everlasting flowers that I embossed in black with white and cut out and then the matching dies, the cherry blossom dyes are what I used. I used petal pink cardstock and some vellum and then silver paper for the centers and it turned out really really pretty here is the last card and I used theelastic bands directly onto gold foil cardstock and I embossed it in gold and then cut out the gold foil with my stitch to be my heart, just open this up and this is what it looks like. the inside and then I used our new Parisian dice for this black swirl and added some gold sequins and the sentiment that says "all of me loves all of you" is from our everlasting flower stamp set.
Now let's look at the front. See, I have the rubber band texture here, so I just stamped the rubber bands all over the front with the first mark and embossed them and wiped them off, so there you have it my friends, 10 cards using the rubber band technique . I'm very glad I redid this. video after doing it so long ago. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video as al

ways
