Rep. Ted Lieu: President Trump Tweets After Mueller Indictment Show "Consciousness Of Guilt" |

May 08, 2020
What is your conclusion from page 37 and the diamond by Robert Muller? Well, my conclusion is that the Kremlin interfered in our elections. This is serious, and the best way to respond is to first impose the bipartisan Congressional sanctions that Congress passed last year. Trump has yet to do that. Instead, he launched a series of deranged and desperate Saudi

tweets

this morning and to me that was not only wildly inappropriate, but it

s

guilt

consciousness

, which is what a

y person would do and that is exactly what a person would do to cheat. lying and not taking action against the Kremlin, what do you think is the probability that these sanctions will be imposed now that there is so much publicity about it?

We're all talking about it, I mean, in terms of the timeliness, whether it should happen now, whether it will happen now. For a long time, Republicans in Congress have allowed Donald Trump to get away with not imposing these sanctions. Now we are starting to see some courage. We heard Trey Gowdy come forward and say, "Look, America was the victim, not the Democrats or the Republicans, and we have more Republicans." step forward that yes, we can force Donald Trump to do the right thing, which is to impose these sanctions to hold Russia accountable, so this accusation says that the Russian operation began in 2014, whether it was active or they were starting their investigation at Regarding this, the

president

tweeted about the course noting that he announced his candidacy until 2015, but in one case he said that Adam Schiff is now starting to blame President Obama for Russian meddling in the election, given the time frame, do Democrats have any responsibility for not limiting this? certainly in hindsight I'm sure the Obama administration would try to do this differently, but keep in mind that Hillary Clinton is not the

president

Obama is not president, the president right now is Donald Trump and he refuses to impose bipartisan sanctions of Congress to hold Russia accountable, in fact he has refused to say anything negative about Vladimir Putin or the Kremlin, they are the ones who attacked the United States in 2016 and we must make sure we have a president who not only recognizes that but takes action. measures to prevent it from happening again.

You know, the president keeps tweeting that the Russian operation had no impact on the results of the 2016 election, but I want us all to listen to a narrative expert about all the messages the Russians were spreading and hear that they did have an impact. and that was really it. resulting in a change in behavior in the United States, which I think indicates that there was a much deeper penetration of this narrative throughout the election cycle into the holistic information environment in ways that Facebook, Twitter and the White House are going to continue to deny, but I think it is impossible to deny that these narratives impacted yes, how people made decisions during the elections, congressman, is it clear to you if these active Russian measures affected the outcome of the elections?

It is an unknowable question, but we do know that it was a very close situation. election Hillary Clinton won the popular vote Donald Trump in only one in three swing states and if those votes had been altered or changed due to Russian influence that could have swayed the election, we will never really know the answer to that, but what We know What I do know is that Russia did this massive interference in our democracy and we need to make sure that doesn't happen again. What's up with the president's tweet this morning, as you read that he's taking aim at the committee that hears all the investigations that the party also hates? that the Russians are in Moscow laughing at their bad words there, what do you think of that?
rep ted lieu president trump tweets after mueller indictment show consciousness of guilt
I think it's a wildly inappropriate tweet from the President of the United States, but the best way to respond again is not only to hold Russia accountable by imposing bipartisan Congressional sanctions, but also to make sure that the rule of law is respected, that means that we should let mold research continue. We already have 13 Russians who have been charged. We need to ensure that the investigation continues to detect other criminal offenses and see if there are others. accusations that could have Americans who also conspired, did you think he's trying to divert attention from the election and trying to say that all these ongoing investigations are the most damaging part to American democracy?
Donald Trump is trying to blame everyone but himself, he's blamed the FBI, he's blamed Jono McMaster, his own national security advisor this morning, he's blaming Obama, Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee, and I think he needs to look at himself. and being a leader and being a president and again you need to impose bipartisan congressional sanctions, you know, the former Watergate prosecutor told me a little bit earlier that this might just be the tip of the iceberg, let's listen to Jill Wine Banks, obviously there is someone deeply involved in the Russian operation he is cooperating with, so I don't know. if they only know about this aspect of social media or if they also know about the Democratic National Committee hack if they know about the John Podesta hack if they know about the work with WikiLeaks to get the information out and if they know what Russia has that keep Donald Trump silently if you've ever seen the TV

show

The Americans, they could be Russians who appear to be Americans and clearly the people who were involved here adopted American characters.
Does this seem plausible to you and I will add that I asked him? specifically, are you talking about Americans or Russians or both? And she said it could be both, but do you see this developing and the rest of the investigation, their ideology here, is that you know someone deeply entrenched in the Russian operation? certainly a possible accusation that Molly just made deals on the social media aspect of the Russian operation now Papadopoulos and General Flynn are cooperating rock'n'roller that is not related to the social media aspect there is something else there which caused Robert Moeller to beg each other and get them to cooperate, so this would be more shoes falling in this Russian investigation and if the Russians did this on social media, you can bet they did a lot of other things, including stealing information from the Committee DNC, weaponizing it and many other actions they have taken, so I expect to see many more accusations.
