didn't have another one I can fix this one sec today I got you you need work down in the car I can do it for you so today old Burke and I are going to pull out the LT 5 engine because this thing from the factory had 375 horsepower I want way more to get way more we need that thing to come up to get that thing to come up we got to drop the exhaust and then transmission what else that's pretty much it easy so we're gonna start working on this zr1 for those who don't know this is a
1990 zr1

the zero one was the really really special model back in 1990 it was one of the fastest production cars that you could go out and buy and it like doubled the value or doubled the the MSRP over the stock

back in its day this one has been junked and hasn't been on the road in 17 years well besides when I took it on a little cruise the other day Emma listen ranch and we want this thing to be back on the road with a vengeance in here
yeah so it should be just these and these I think we need a lift ah hey guys this is where the spare tire goes right here it's not there what are these cables here is that just I have no idea what are these cables ground straps but they're so thick yeah and they're not tight yeah well I mean it's just for electricity oh yeah they're not I know this one's not probably it's not either probably supposed to be yeah all right we're just gotta take these hangers out and
then the exhaust will all fall onto us I tell you we need a lift all right engines up there there's the exhaust

of it we just took off there's transmission going down here there's a driveshaft as you can see back to the diff but there's this thing called a sea beam that goes around the drive shaft so we got to get the C beam out first and then the driveshaft out and then the transmission Oh C beam looks not fun these two 18 millimeter bolts go all the way if they're the
problem is I have to get a wrench on the nut which is shoved up in there this is something I gotta like fish it through there and hook it there so I can break these things loose oh okay we turn the cameras off for a while but we got all those crazy bolts out now I just gotta get this C beam out so it goes all the way around it hooks to the transmission and back there pick up fall out and get hit with it look at that thing hanging down now this pry bar right here I was just telling Brian I sort
of stole it I uh nineteen oh my gosh do your dog is at the end of the pasture just so you know yeah like way over there he can't hear you I had a 1972 Firebird and I took it to a place to get some exhaust work done and they fixed it hurry but they fixed it and I went and picked it up drove it all the way home and then I went up under the car to look at something and that pry bar was like jammed up they had like left it in there and it just stayed under my car the whole way home so I've
had it for 20 years some guy probably got chewed out because he lost the pry bar hey guys I'd forgot to film but we got the drive down there so we decided that's the only way we're gonna get this C beam out so I just took the drive shaft out now I want to see if I get this CD how stuck I think I might need to pull this parking brake cable out of here so that's the C beam the drive shaft goes right in here and this thing hooks to the differential and the transmission to keep

flexing so obviously when you floor it in a car with a lot of horsepower it can twist stuff and so this just helps prevent twisting it also helps preventing getting your engine and transmission out of the car because it's really stuck in there dropping transmission now well hopefully you have one bulb left in it it should be free a long shaft in there it seems very stuck there we go there we go rooks ad lower it a little bit yeah it's coming just slow love working on cars you know what I
mean we're gonna take a little break for lunch and then we'll come back and get that thing out just get this trainee out of here now you know that problem when you got stuck trainee and you're trying to get rid of it and transmission is what I'm talking about what do you like most kills you hit 109 though this is exhaust this is our catalytic converter it goes up to our exhaust manifold you got to get those out there mostly out gotta get that out and then this bell housing here
is super stuck even though I took bolts out still trying to figure out how to get that thing on - but I mean if these out the way hopefully get a little bit better view of that nice there it is oh it actually kind of like looks like a header already that is quad those can be cast iron or something yeah so this is our manifold which kind of looks like our headers goes into this big cat here has all this exhaust gas recirculation kind of stuff going on here we're gonna make it much simpler in
the rebuild so I've mentioned before that my other

that I used to have was 1995 and it was the base model

and I'm pretty sure it was like a decade ago and I did this but I put headers on that car so I took the stock exhaust manifolds off and I'm pretty sure they were not this I think they were cast iron which most exhaust manifolds are just a giant piece of cast iron they're super heavy and they don't flow as well and this is really really cool I've
never taken a

part

the car that had kind of like headers already built in which is probably why the zr1 models are you know way more expensive from the factory because they have a lot of upgrades like this they also had twice as many holes for air to go in so these over here are always open and these have these little valves in here but the valves are totally frozen shut so you can see that so when we were driving this thing we were only driving actually I thought these are the same size the ones
that are always open are smaller so we were driving on less than half of the amount of air that would normally be going into this engine which is probably why I wasn't running very good it's also like kind of rusty in there but this is uh this is getting there we are about ready as soon as we can get this bell housing unhooked down they're about ready to start pulling this block up bellhousing out we got the engine hoist hooked up to the engine now we just need to hoist it you need
to balance it a little bit looks like it's picking up the back I see it coming up alright there's always something you forget to unhook right like I never I pulled out like two engines in my life but there's always like you think everything's off and it's not also the engines I pulled out we're in like late 60s muscle cars so there's a lot less stuff up to it than a then this brand new 1990

block so these things have the dual overhead cams so their heads are just giant the blocks actually normal size but the head is just huge and sticks out so far as you can see also check out how rusty all this stuff is I actually liked when I did the donut the other day I totally like screwed up the clutch and I didn't do anything too crazy with it I was just trying to go as hard as I could because I knew we were replacing all this stuff anyway this is probably why it got screwed up so easily
this thing was flooded and is now just super super rusty and nasty yeah don't let your car sit underwater that's the moral story here and we actually got this thing out with only one wire that was not unhooked so we got that unhooked and then the engine came straight out with no issues which is amazing yeah so cool so now we just gotta fix it put it back in here taking it out was easy

putting it back in it's gonna be tricky but we didn't want this video to just be a
disassembly video this is a rebuild video so we're going to actually install our first new

today - if I could figure it out you know it's pretty complicated to get it all put together right new

s going in man this car is just shaping up we got a gas cap it actually did not come with the gas cap when we bought it and so we order one and now things can't fall in the gas tank really coming together I mean you can just see the value increasing right before I wash my hands as
good as I could they're still gross hey family hey link hey mommy hey girl Meredith would you say right now you could beat me in a three-mile run I'm pretty fast right ever yeah yeah so I've always been faster in like a hundred yard dash Mayer has always been able to run further and faster on longer runs but I have been going fast and training hard and trying to get really strong is this really prestigious event we have coming up in the next couple months but Meredith sets on the
other day that made me realize she's doubting me a little bit our friend Rob has also been running a lot and Meredith said he might be able to beat me its treadmill treadmills that could not be calibrated right he said he ran five miles in like thirty two minutes or something which is insane he did say he goes he goes back he said that's got to be some kind of record I was like what are you talking about like you think you're the fastest man in the world because you ran on a
treadmill it would be robbed it's a good thing he's handsome because he doesn't have much I'm just kidding but anyway Rob thinks he's coming for me Mayer is a little worried that Rob might be coming for me but the race we're doing is the beer mile and then there's a whole nother rin-chan Rob's plan are you just trying to make noise with that chair as I talk it just keep scooting further and further out and he reminds me of me anyway though Mayer is like are you
sure Rob lying to beat you I was like sure for sure he's not gonna be me and then I went ran really hard feels like well now I can't let Rob beat me so anyway just so you know Rob before watching this video you will not beat me in the beer mile absolutely no way no how I'm training twice as hard now to make sure that you my friend are not coming for me just so you know and also mayor I think might be rooting for you jerk the last thing I wanted today is open this package from the
vortex and I was just gonna open and I actually started opening it but then I saw it's in a wooden box they've never received a scope in a wooden box before so I felt like you guys probably should you know be here for this check this out I'm not usually one who does like you know epic unboxings but when I get a package in an epic box I feel like I have to do an epic unboxing and everyone has to come look yeah right I know you wanna see oh yeah G okay alright bye okay this is it
