says gallery furniture on the back and go rockets go after posting my last video I actually
found out that this car was owned by the owner of Gallery furniture which I kind of expected because it says guy furniture on the back but I didn't really know much about gallery furniture turns out it's a pretty big furniture store that is well-known for the owner who is dubbed mattress Mac making really goofy commercials in the Houston area for the last like couple decades and now with the gallery furniture players Gallery Furniture Galleries say to look ma no hands come on forget
furniture crowd our tremendous collection of power recline Gallery Furniture really well babe you money mattress Mac also is well regarded in the Houston area because he has been very generous with people in need he has like for instance during the last flooding he opened up his stores and said if anyone needs a place to stay you come sleep in my store he had people off the streets sleeping on his brand-new mattresses that he was trying to sell just to be a nice guy a local furniture store owner
who's known in Texas as mattress Mac decided he had to help not every store owner would be happy with evacuees sprawling out over millions of dollars of merchandise but then again not every store owner is a Texan known as mattress Mac we're joined now by a hometown hero I remember this guy from when I was a kid here in Houston he is a Houston legend this is mattress Mac owner of Gallery Furniture he did so much to help so many victims of hurricane Harvey opening his store doors for
exactly he had nowhere else to go and he hasn't stopped helping since the hurricane I am now the owner of mattress Mac of Gallery furnitures old 1990

Corvette

so the story I have so far is that he got this car new and then he kept it for a few years and then when the Rockets won back in 1994 he wrapped it with Houston Rockets logo gallery French on the back end back-to-back world champs on the back here and then he had it in some sort of sweepstakes or giveaway or something promoting his
business and he gave this car away and the guy I bought it from was the original guy who won this car back in the mid 90s as you can see the car has not been on the road in 17 years and apparently it was because it got some flood damage or something Houston is well known for flooding obviously but I got some flood damage back like 17 years ago that made the owner the winner of this car decide I'm not going to fix it and it has just kind of sat since then they've kind of tried to do some
things but you can see it never drove on the streets was never registered again and so this car which was a supercar back in 1990 has just sat in disrepair forever a really long time and it's still sitting in disrepair right now but I've been looking at some stuff and I found out some things check this out how did that even probably other owner not me this is the LT 5 engine this is what makes this zr1 special an all aluminum block four cam 32-valve v8 engine it's a crazy engine well
it was 30 years ago it's still really cool and very iconic the problem with mine is it was overheating in about seven minutes also blowing tons of black smoke so what we did pulled all the spark plugs out and then we put a little gauge on here and each one and we were testing compression basically I was worried that this thing might have a blown head gasket or crack or something like that where it was mixing water oil water you anything bad I figured this probably had since it you know what
would make someone put a supercar away and not have it fixed for 17 years so we checked everyone all the compression was good the other problem it also has is blowing tons of like black thick smoke which is not good either so what I realized this thing has electric fans they weren't coming on found some burn wires I was like oh there's a problem hook the burnt wires back together turn it on and you can hear the fan going so the fan motors just burned up and then that burned up the wire
rebuilding a destroyed zr1 corvette part 1
so I'm sure with the water they got in there screwed up that motor burned up the wire fan never came on again the exhaust blowing all that black smoke I'm hoping it's just from old gasoline I have no idea if anyone has tried to put any new gasoline in this thing in a while I think some guy tried to start it like a couple years ago I think and I'm hoping that he tried to put gasoline in it couple years ago so at the very least that gasoline is two years old it may be seventeen
years old or it might be two year old gasoline mixed with some 17 year old gas not sure but it did run tons of black smoke I'm hoping it's just bad guy but what we need to do to get this thing actually drivable is pull all this out get our fan motor out and see if we can fix that so I'm going to do that today we're gonna start taking some stuff a

part

you can see we've already kind of started which will help me get in there get all this these actually pretty interesting you
can see right here this is where the air comes in this is Radiator right here and you can't actually see the radio here it's cover to this big shroud so the air sucks up in there and go straight through our radiator I think there's an oil cooler in there and I think the a/c condenser is also that I think there's three basically radiators right there we're gonna find out oh look at that big old hole like that let me show you how this all shook out basically all I needed
to do was remove this electric fan and this electric fan the electric fan each one is only held in by four bolts and one plug seems easy right the problem was I actually could get to all those four bolts I'd like to get to three of these bolts but even when I got to all four of those bolts the fan was right up next to all of the front stuff on this engine that I couldn't pull it back to lift it up those no rune pull it out so to get it out I had to take off this whole thing to get off
this whole thing I had to take off everything and it took forever let me show you how this was kind of stacked up so right there the fans were in that little shroud which was right up next to our radiator this is a radiator water coolant passes from our engine block into this thing is cooled down by these fans and then is pumped back into our engine block it helps cool the engine right in front of that is our oil cooler so it pumps oil into this thing and back into the engine to help cool the
engine right in front of that is our AC condenser it pumps gas in there to cool it down to help cool me down seems easy enough right wrong especially because if you think about it this is a 30 year old car I broke two bolts this is the head of a bolt that I had to drill out here's the rest of the head of the bolts that took forever because it was a really weird angle this is also a nut that was totally stuck and when I turned it it free wheeled the stud it was on so I had to drill that out
and I couldn't get a grinder usually just get a grinder and like chop these things off couldn't get a grinder in there it's too tight so I had to just drill this one took forever this one bad just went straight down broke it off this one took forever I spent 45 minutes I bet just trying to get this one nut off so that I could pull that whole thing out but now the whole thing's out this is a one problem with c4

Corvette

s so that junk it collected they call these things vacuum
cleaners because they just kind of suck up all the debris off the road and store it right here it's like spider eggs gross even found a Welch's fruit snack bag from probably the 90s in there I actually was hoping when I first bought this car the reason it was overheating was because it sucked like a trash bag up there I was totally blocking on the radiator which happens a lot in these

Corvette

s wasn't the case for me found that later this thing was in a flood and that's why bunch
of the electronics were all screwed up so I placed an order for two new electric fans and actually see four

Corvette

s and I assumed zero ones are even more so they're prone to overheat and so I actually ordered an upgraded fan system and I figured while I was at it let's get an upgraded radiator this one's thirty years old it overheats already why not do it good I think next week we should have upgraded radiator and upgraded fans and we'll put this thing back in there and put
rebuilding a destroyed zr1 corvette part 1
some new gas in it look at that good QT and then I think this thing can go on the road I think I mean it's missing a bunch of things like speedometer turn signals brakes fracture that beer mom that's it for the engine bay for tonight it's just basically waiting on those

part

s to come in then we'll put it back in and see if we get this thing running I have also been tearing a

part

interior stuff kind of seeing what I want to fix what I have to fix what the car needs that kind of
stuff you can tell we've torn out the carpet in the back deck in here just try and figure out all the little electrical grim lens this thing has because it's seen some water the wiring for the most

part

is all good this car is unmolested what I mean by that is no one has come in here and modified it so I get to do all that which is good cuz I don't have like figure out stuff that's not you know factory so I'm just having to trace wires figure out you know where there are
fuses where those fuses might be bad you know any connectors that are bad but for the most

part

the wiring is all good our window motors don't do anything pretty much all the little motors on this car are totally seized up the headlight motors the window motors the power door lock none of that stuff works probably because it's sat in water so I think we're just gonna have to go to each one of those things replace the motor I'm hoping that's all it is probably some fuses some
things like that probably little modules and hopefully this thing will be back working but I mean even in the door in here there's rust on that spring there there's a lot of water everywhere the good thing about

Corvette

s though is their body is not made of metal it's all fiberglass fibreglass does not rust which is nice I mean even in here this is not metal this is all fiberglass which makes

Corvette

s very light which is good for what we want to do in this car which is go super fast
like probably 300 miles an hour or something so I passed the question to you in militia my love's what would you like to see us do with this car I'm all ears let me tell you what I think we should do with this car I want to keep the lt5 engine because for me it is an iconic engine of this era of cars it's a crazy engine I feel like it would be doing a disservice to the zr1 name to not have the zr1 lt5 engine in there but I am not opposed to doing some not stock stuff to this engine
to get a lot more horsepower I'm thinking a couple hundred more horsepower out of that engine should be pretty doable I also since this car is pretty messed up and not a beauty queen I'm also not opposed to doing some other modifications to the car I think new seats are in order I think I'd like some race seats for this thing something to give it a little more of a racecar track feel rather than like a comfy leathery seat feel I think these door panels they obviously are trash and
moldy so we're gonna do something with them we either can replace them with factory options or we could just get like a little piece of aluminum and just put over the inside of it to give it a clean look but more of a race car look is what I'm thinking gauges we could go with this like what we need to redo these because these gauges are screwed up probably because of water we can just replace the whole thing and put stock gauges back in or maybe we could build like a custom dash and put
like you know some like custom gauges in it could look cool that'd be a lot more work than just replacing it with the original stock stuff I'm kind of torn there because I think it would look better if it was all just like totally custom but I don't know how to do that and that would be a lot of work to learn and figure it out so not sure they're roll cage six point four point like a half cage in here maybe something add a little bit of safety because I'd like to do some
stuff in this car I'd like to take it to a quarter-mile play with a little bit maybe do some road courses and so it'd make me feel a little better and help stiffen up a little bit and then I'm kind of getting ahead of myself because I haven't you know tested this car but like I kind of want to do coilovers kind of want to do new brakes like upgraded brakes for this thing maybe different wheels although I really like the zero-one wheels so dim Alysha if you had a 1990 zr1

Corvette

way through without rockets logos what would you do to it comment below and now I don't have you heard that that was an axis deer out of the pasture going they make crazy dinosaur noises first time I heard it totally freaked out now I kind of would talk about something sort of correlated I used this truck to move that

Corvette

and I will use it to move all of our cars so I would talk about a little bit we had a video a couple videos ago where we put a tool box on the truck and I filled it up
with a bunch of stuff that I thought I needed and I asked you guys for help on what I'm missing you had some great ideas things that I had not thought of one was a breaker bar so got that I also may put a little cheater pipe in there to kind of get a little extra leverage good idea a good thing to have another was a little portable pump it's plugs into 12-volt power and it's made for pumping up tires so if you get a you know just a low tire or you've changed a flat and your
spares low and then also come-alongs a super smart idea and obviously these are all old I had all these things already in my barn just didn't think about them so I'm gonna put all these in my truck okay got my stuff in my little tool bag there imma come along in there for those who don't know to come along as it's just a way to move a ton of weight whether your truck gets stuck or you need to pull something over they're just super convenient and good to have I have two of
them because sometimes it's good to use one to pull pressure off so you get the other one up and rotate them out okay I'm actually gonna photos light in here as well and we're done thank you guys for your help with that thing two other really good suggestions that I just haven't got yet a fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit I think those are excellent and I think after that I've got it pretty dialed in on everything we need in there Coenen time next week start up first
Drive hopefully if everything goes according to plan thank you guys for watching we're gonna call this when we work on cars demos garage thanks for watching demos garage I love you and I'll see you next time oh shut up down there
